A possible plant organ that could relay the airborne acoustic signal into a response is the flower itself, especially in flowers with “bowl” shape. If this is the case, we expect that part of the flower (or the entire flower) would vibrate physically in response to the airborne sound of a potential pollinator. We further predict that nectar sugar concentration would increase in response to the sound. The researchers used all sorts of tricks to isolate the sensor and check the frequency response. The hypothesis was verified. A sound similar to the wingbeats of a plant's preferred pollinator causes a temporary sweetening of the nectar. The sweetening takes a few minutes to develop, so the first bee might not receive the signal. But the first bee is often a scout, so the sugar trap is fresh just in time for the mass of bees who respond to the scout. The next step in research is to find the mechanism. If the petals are the tympanic membrane, where is the cochlea? More likely the petals ARE the cochlea, directly transducing pressure change. I discussed this parallel in my earlier piece on Chamovitz, but at that time the basic question about airborne sound hadn't been answered. I was thinking in terms of acoustic response by roots and stems. Now that the petals are known to be the sensors, the parallel is blatantly clear. The cochlea is a logarithmic spiral because frequencies are sensed logarithmically.
Many flowers are also log spirals.
How about the opposite parallel? Do animals sweeten their pheromones on hearing the voice of the preferred mating type? A preferred sound certainly creates a whole-body pleasure via the vagus nerve and parasympathetic system. The vagus controls many secretions in the skin and gut, and also picks up olfactory signals from incoming pheromones.
So this is highly likely but not yet determined.
= = = = =
Later astonished thought: The delayed sweetness is truly remarkable. It shows that the plant's intelligence is ANTICIPATING a future event and STRATEGIZING to match the beehive's strategy. Other plant responses are much faster and simpler. The snapdragon bops the bee on the head to knock it down into the pollen, and the clover ticks each floret out of the way after it's been consumed.Labels: bee, Carver, Grand Blueprint, Smarty-plants

"For me, there is no banned issue. We won't agree on everything, which is normal in a democracy. But at least we'll show we're a people which is not afraid of talking, exchanging, debating," Macron wrote in the letter published by his office. While Macron assured that there were "no forbidden questions", he did say that the right to seek asylum "could not be questioned". He also said the government would not revisit steps taken "to encourage investment and make work pay more". One of the frequent demands from the protesters, who are mostly from rural or small-town France, is a repeal of Macron's move last year to cut the ISF "fortune tax", which was previously levied on high-earners. "We will not pursue tax cuts without lowering the overall level of our public spending," Macron said in the letter. All questions are equal but only MY questions count. YOUR questions are impertinent and idiotic, so I will ignore them.
The first one is understated. "Social" "scientists" have advanced to Pol Pot genocide, declaring half of humanity to be permanently diseased. That's not "controversial", it's a pogrom.
Second one is a more specific pogrom. Watson has been Unpersoned for the "crime" of stating PRECISELY ACCURATE FACTS** about genes, which he understands better than anyone else. "Science" no longer wants facts, so "science" no longer honors factual scientists.
Third one deserves a bit more detail.
At this year's annual meeting of the Indian Science Congress from Jan. 3 to 7, senior research scientist Kannan Jegathala Krishnan dismissed Albert Einstein's theory of relativity as "a big blunder" and said Isaac Newton didn't really understand how gravity works. Nageswara Rao, a vice chancellor at Andhra University in South India, said that Ravana, a demon god with 10 heads, had 24 kinds of aircraft of varying sizes and capacities — and that India was making test-tube babies thousands of years ago. Dinosaurs were created by the Hindu god Brahma, said Ashu Khosla, a scientist with expertise in paleontology at Panjab University in the North Indian city of Chandigarh. Not exactly the kind of remarks you would expect at an event whose mission is to advance and further the cause of science etc(1) Western "scientists" who ferociously defend (and get billions of dollars for defending) bizarre nonsense like multiverses and string theory and dark matter and variable gender are not qualified to criticize others for bizarre nonsense. (2) Many fashionable Western "scientists" have also criticized relativity from various angles, and Einstein himself said that Newton didn't really understand gravity. That was the whole point of General Relativity. (3) Ancient aircraft and test-tube babies haven't been discovered but they're not impossible. Advanced civilizations 3000 years ago had lots of technology that disappeared. Occasionally archeologists dig up a new example. So far no aircraft, but the Antikythera computer was more sophisticated than basic aircraft, and Heron's steam engine was equally sophisticated. (4) Dinosaurs created by Brahma? All life was created by some kind of intelligence. That's an inescapable conclusion from real science. If you want to call the intelligence Brahma, fine. = = = = = ** Relevant sidenote: Though Watson's specific statements about IQ and genes are precisely accurate, he misses the real problem. As I've argued repeatedly, Sorosian lands have turned the talents measured by IQ into a complete determiner of success. We reward immoral abstract computer-like theoreticians and kill moral live humans. Watson clearly agrees with the elite assumption but doesn't agree with the cruel hoax of "meritocracy" that allows the elite to justify their slaughter of moral live humans. The latter disagreement is his real crime.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron will sign the "Aachen treaty" later this month which will govern a coordinated diplomatic front as well as joint actions on peacekeeping missions. What's more - areas on both sides of the Franco-German border will be encouraged to establish "Eurodistricts" in which both countries would merge water, electricity and public transport networks. One more guaranteed step toward total revolution.... but it may be a smart strategy for Macron's personal survival. It's a little like Castling in chess, used only in emergencies to get the King out of the way. He's sacrificing the entire French government to save his toyboy banker ass. Now he's no longer the real target of the Yellowjackets. They're up against the Krauts, who have always enjoyed frog hunting.
Strikingly, the scientists found that arrow worms don't belong with spiralians, but instead with a new group of animals that form a sister group to the clade. The results, published January 10, 2019 in Current Biology, challenge the classical view that complex organisms evolved from simple ancestors by gaining new traits over time. "Arrow worms are predators, they have nervous systems, they have developed sensory organs. But the other organisms they're grouped with are much simpler," said Ferdinand Marlétaz, first author of the study and a postdoctoral scholar in the OIST Molecular Genetics Unit, led by Prof. Daniel Rokhsar. "If you place arrow worms here, it means there was probably a lot of independent simplification, rather than the independent emergence of complexity."Simplification rather than independent emergence of complexity. Only one conclusion is possible. All complexity was created all at once. In species as in individual talents, USE IT OR LOSE IT. You can't gain more talent by cultivating your talent, but you can gradually lose it by failing to practice and cultivate. The loss mechanism is obvious in neurons and muscles. Neurons that aren't active are ruthlessly swept out by the Glial Janitorial Service. Muscles that aren't used atrophy. The mechanism in species is still mysterious. Part of it is standard Darwin. Genes get lost through mutation. If the lost gene doesn't code for a useful structure or activity in the current situation, offspring without the gene will survive and reproduce. Part of it may be epigenetic, with an intentional switchoff more like neural atrophy. = = = = = ** Stupid footnote. I wrote: Standard Darwin theory says that life randomly developed from non-life and continues to randomly increase its potential and complexity without limit. What I meant by 'reality says the opposite' was specifically: Life did not develop from non-life, randomly or not. Life started with all of the available potentials in one Grand Blueprint, and each phylum or species or individual uses some of the available potentials, abandoning other structures or skills. This isn't consistently opposite. The second part is a vector in the opposite direction from the Darwinian view. From increasing complexity, turn 180 degrees to decreasing complexity. But the first part is a zeroing out of the Darwin vector. Life didn't develop from non-life, it simply developed. What happens if we reverse that vector? Non-life developed from life. Sounds weird, but as we understand more about the action of bacteria in rocks and clouds and every other previously inconceivable place, it's not so weird after all. Non-life could simply be the last stage in simplification and degeneration. In the beginning God created bacteria, and bacteria pooped out the universe.

Instead of a fixed mindset which is based on the belief that intelligence and talent are fixed (positively or negatively), a growth mindset is built on the belief that through persistence, effort, overcoming failure, and embracing challenges, our intelligence and abilities grow. Those with this mindset believe that a person’s true potential is unknown; that it’s impossible to foresee what can be accomplished with commitment, passion, and continuous effort. The 'fixed mindset' is simply true. Intelligence and talent are fixed. You certainly accomplish more by working than by not working. Using and cultivating our talent is our GOD-ASSIGNED DUTY. But the expectation of unlimited potential is a recipe for sudden burnout and suicide. Starting with realistic expectations is a recipe for sustained survival. Despite the bad theory, the practice is unquestionably good.
Project-based learning (PBL) is at the heart of our instructional approach. With project-based learning, students aren’t just assessed on their understanding of academic content, but on their ability to successfully apply that content when solving authentic problems. Using New Tech Network’s five school-wide learning outcomes, project-based learning cultivates the skills and attributes required for college and career success in today’s world. Integrated projects combine core subjects through projects that connect to the community and the real world. During integrated blocks, students collaborate in teams on meaningful projects that require critical thinking, creativity, and communication in order for them to answer challenging questions or solve complex problems. By making learning relevant to them in this way, students see a purpose for mastering state-required skills and content concepts. Independent projects are designed around interest areas and are driven by each student’s personal passions, career options, and curiosity to learn deeply. As with integrated projects, independent projects are often connected beyond the walls of the school. Independent projects may involve interviews, job shadows, internships, college classes and other individual pursuits.Just right. On the dot. Perfect.

The thirty-first World Health Assembly, recalling resolutions concerning the health hazards of tobacco-smoking and ways towards its limitation; Recognizing the increasing and indisputable scientific evidence showing that tobacco-smoking is a major cause of chronic bronchitis, emphysema and lung cancer, as well as a major risk factor for myocardial infarction, certain pregnancy-related and neonatal disorders, and a number of other serious health problems; and that it also has harmful effects on those who are involuntarily exposed to tobacco smoke, urges member states: (1) To adopt comprehensive measures to control toabacco smoking by providing for increased taxation on the sale of cigarettes and disallowing publicity for promotion of smoking in the news media, including newspapers, radio and television; (2) To strengthen health education concerning smoking as part of general health education, through close collaboration among health and school authorities and other relevant agencies, taking into account the different needs of the various target groups; (3) To protect the health of non-smokers and their right to enjoy an atmosphere unpolluted by tobacco smoke...Note the implicit understanding that governments CAN control the media, which CIA of course knew better than anyone. Note also the strong emphasis on 2nd-hand smoke, which is NOT "indisputable evidence". The real purpose of the move was not about health. BRUTAL SYLLOGISM: If we were concerned with health, we'd have a functional medical system. We don't have a functional medical system. We have a medical system that KILLS MORE PEOPLE THAN CIGARETTES, through opioid prescriptions and botched surgeries and hospital-caused infections. Therefore we are NOT concerned with health. We are only concerned with obliterating all aspects of civilization. = = = = = Sidenote: Though the chaos generator started later than thought, the Saudi influence started earlier than thought. Should I sue for copyright infringement? More seriously, this fits the question that some of the skeptics have raised. Is Elon doing intentionally stupid things to mock the cultists and regulators, knowing that everything he does will raise share value?

A Wisconsin congressman proposed a dual-mode transit system for metro Milwaukee and enlisted AMC and Allis-Chalmers to help develop it. Travel via electrified guideways would have required a retractable contact arm; the gas engine would have been used elsewhere.
This system was less stupid than Elon's in two ways: the cars weren't running on their own fragile batteries, and they weren't trapped in a one-lane tunnel. But it was equally stupid in a more important way. How do you merge cars INTO the guideway?
AMC and Allis-Chalmers were both in Wisconsin, so this was an in-state deal.
You couldn't ask for a more perfect opposite to Elon in corporate terms. Nash/AMC had a long tradition of cautious and TRULY visionary management. Good ideas that people actually wanted, manufactured with high quality and low debt.
The Hornet was a good cautious car, well-built and genuinely boring. AMC always made good cautious cars, always suffered from the OPPOSITE of cult zealotry and coolness.

We have 1993 years of CHARTED TERRITORY, because we know that England somehow managed to grow and prosper and invent thousands of things and develop most of the industries that everyone else copied, during that part of the chart, even though it was mysteriously surviving without the INDISPENSABLE BLESSINGS OF JUNCKER AND SOROS.
And then we have 25 years of CHARTED TERRITORY during which England declined and lost its industries and became pretty much a third-world shithole with the INDISPENSABLE BLESSINGS OF JUNCKER AND SOROS.
There is no UNCHARTED TERRITORY. We have a whole fucking bunch of POSITIVE CHART and a short horrible period of NEGATIVE CHART. Which should you choose?
Alternately, uncharted territory is usually spelled unchartered territory nowadays. Using this form of the phrase, England invented the most important CHARTER in political history way back in 1215, and then specifically abandoned it when EU substituted its own Satanic charter in 1993. Again we have a whole fucking long period with a POSITIVE CHARTER, and then 25 years with a SATANIC CHARTER. Which should you choose?
This new initiative, dubbed Plan S, mandates that starting in 2020, academics receiving grants from participating agencies—which include funders in the UK, France, and the Netherlands—must make all scientific articles open access immediately upon publication. The coalition also outlines 10 key principles, such as commitments from funders to help cover publication fees, provide incentives to establish quality open-access journals and publishing platforms, and a promise to sanction those who do not comply with the new rules.Simple. Since publishing is the PURPOSE and ENDPOINT of research, grants must include enough money to cover all costs of publishing UP FRONT so the readers don't have to pay. Could be even simpler and cheaper if you factor out the journals and the publishers like Springer and Elsevier. Just slap the result onto the web, on a website maintained by the university or the company where the research was centered. Since every university big enough to run research already has a website for press releases about new research, this wouldn't require a new office. Just more servers and bandwidth. Without the journals, the entire counterproductive structure of peer-review disappears. Everyone can evaluate the results independently. Also, a conflict of real vs legal copyright disappears. Under the current setup, govt sponsored research is officially public domain; but the Springer paywall imposes a practical copyright on it. You have to pay $40 to see an article that your taxes already paid for. If the university publishes the output directly, paid by the granting agencies, the official and practical are identical. Corporate-sponsored research is not public domain, but corporate research rarely gets published anyway. It's for internal use, protected against competitors by NDAs or patents.
1.We hold this truth to be self-evident: that government in a modern civilization has certain inescapable obligations to its citizens, among which are: 2. Protection of the family and the home. 2. Establishment of a democracy of opportunity for all the people. 3. Aid to those overtaken by disaster. These obligations, neglected through 12 years of the old leadership, have once more been recognized by American government. Under the new leadership they will never be neglected.Note that family and home came first. Both words are alien CRIMETHINK to modern politicians of "both" "parties". = = = = = 2. The move has implications that extend far beyond the research community. Proponents of differential privacy say a fierce, ongoing legal battle over plans to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census has only underscored the need to assure people that the government will protect their privacy. The original obsolete constitution required a census every 10 years TO DETERMINE WHERE THE VOTERS ARE. Since voters have to be citizens, a question about citizenship is the ONLY question that is REQUIRED. If the original constitution still existed, this "fierce battle" would be unnecessary because citizenship would be the ONLY question asked by the census. We wouldn't have to decide whether it was "violating" "rights", because determining citizenship is the sole DUTY of the census. The specifics of the debate are technically valid and interesting.......
“Any time you release a statistic, you’re leaking something,” explains Jerry Reiter, a professor of statistics at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, who has worked on differential privacy as a consultant with the Census Bureau. “The only way to absolutely ensure confidentiality is to release no data. So the question is, how much risk is OK? Differential privacy allows you to put a boundary” on that risk. A database can be considered differentially protected if the information it yields about someone doesn’t depend on whether that person is part of the database. Differential privacy was originally designed to apply to situations in which outsiders make a series of queries to extract information from a database. In that scenario, each query consumes a little bit of what the experts call a “privacy budget.” After that budget is exhausted, queries are halted in order to prevent database reconstruction..... but irrelevant. In fact all of this information is already available to criminals and corporations and governments. (Sorry, redundant.) Everyone who has ever been online has been hacked. Intentional off-gridders may be exempt, but intentional off-gridders aren't going to answer census questionnaires anyway, so they're outside the terms of the debate.

In face-to-face conversation and debate we learn cues for assessing the reliability of someone's argument, though often this knowledge is acquired intuitively through life experience rather than through formal education. If we encounter someone shouting out bizarre accusations or disjointed phrases in our local market square we typically will ignore them and may well draw conclusions as to the mental health of the person in question. Online, however, we don't have the same context of non-verbal clues that are so crucial to the conclusions we draw about the reliability and authenticity of information. Increasingly we find that visual clues provided by photos as well as video footage are also subject to manipulation. Fake imagery, misleading headlines and captions, and distorted reporting can enable disinformation to take root and spread virally. We need a complementary set of tools to help cultivate visual discernment and provide the public with resources to verify stories (especially the most provocative and compelling) before they are shared.Excellent and insightful. Perfectly accurate. Now the second paragraph. I haven't clipped anything out between the two.
In the case of the attempted murder of Sergei and Julia Skripal by nerve-agent poisoning in Salisbury, there have already been a minimum of 32 different narratives suggested by the Russian state as possible “explanations”, most of which are absurd and indeed contradictory.WHIPLASH! Comrade O'Brien would be proud.
The flat background-like assertion of "attempted murder by nerve-agent poisoning" is the first thing that a discerning observer would want to check. What's the evidence of poisoning? What's the evidence that the poisoning was by Russian Novichok?
And the answer, after sorting out all available sources, is NO EVIDENCE AT ALL. The only OBSERVATION, outside of the official noise, is that the Skripals were seen on a parkbench looking unconscious. That's ALL.
There are many possible explanations for this. All of the official explanations have been thoroughly disproved and disassembled.
The simplest explanation, the ONLY explanation that fits the uncorrupted evidence with zero contradictions, is that the entire incident was stagecraft. There was no poison, no substance, no chemical, NOTHING. Just a puppet show.
[Incidentally, this Ockham explanation is not among the Russian explanations I've seen. All discussions in RT and Sputnik start with the unproved and highly dubious "fact" that a substance was used. They argue about the type of substance and other details, but they don't peel back the last layer of the false onion.]
= = = = =
Let's take a close look at the flat assertion. This sentence is a classic example, showing how the assertion uses our internal syntax templates to slide past our conscious filters.
In the case of the attempted murder of Sergei and Julia Skripal by nerve-agent poisoning in Salisbury, there have already been a minimum of 32 different narratives suggested by the Russian state as possible “explanations”, most of which are absurd and indeed contradictory.
The main clause of the sentence is the narratives suggested by Russia. In ordinary reading you focus on the main clause. This main clause is narrowly true because Russian media have suggested many explanations.
If you're not accustomed to Deepstate's tricks, you'll look at the main clause and say "Yup, that's true", and go on to the next sentence. You'll miss the ASSERTION which is also a sneaky INSERTION into your mind. In the case of the attempted murder is a background subordinate clause, positioned as an already known fact which doesn't need to be checked.
The sentence follows an ordinary and expected pattern.
In the case of houses with shingled roofs, there are a minimum of 32 different techniques suggested by contractors as possible "fixes" for a lifted shingle, most of which are ineffective and costly.
You already know that some houses have shingled roofs and some have tile or metal. This is a background fact that doesn't require skeptical attention. You focus on the techniques so that you can question your contractor about the techniques before paying for roof repair.
A second trick: The sentence focuses on Russia's many explanations and DOESN'T MENTION the UK/US media's many contradictory and false explanations. Those explanations should be the sole target of your discernment.
When you use REAL discernment, you can discern the ASSERTION-INSERTION, and you can also discern that the false explanations suggested by UK/US media are NOT EVEN MENTIONED.
Coverage of Trump by RT and Sputnik is, in fact, uncharacteristically balanced. Some recent reports have presented the Republican candidate favorably, such as when he endorsed a number of critics for re-election 'in an attempt to ease party tensions', or accused Clinton of founding the Daesh terrorist group. Others, however, were unfavorable. One quoted a neo-Nazi leader as backing his candidacy; another accused him of hypocrisy. One report even asked, 'Is Trump an embarrassment to the GOP because he's an incompetent, uninformed, pathological menace, or because he's just saying out loud what most Republicans now believe?' No such balance is apparent in the two outlets' coverage of the other candidates. Clinton is the most obvious target. In August alone, RT reports covered accusations of corruption, lying and ill health against her; accused her of launching a McCarthystyle 'witch hunt' against Trump; and linked her to the use of nuclear weapons in 1945. Sputnik's reporting called her and her team 'war hawks', accused her of wanting to 'make more families suffer' the deaths of soldiers, and named her the 'Queen of War'. Earlier in the electoral cycle, Bernie Sanders enjoyed similar lavish coverage, with headlines such as 'Why only Sanders can prevent "President Trump"'. In March, RT even ran an interview claiming that Clinton and Google were collaborating to rig the results against Sanders, with the interviewer asking, 'Sanders scored a 35% swing, maybe, in Michigan, I mean, it hasn't worked so well for Clinton, has it?'Exactly right. A correct summary of the real data. So the intel agencies can't be forgiven on the basis of self-contained ignorance. They KNOW they're lying about Russia.

In the study, researchers explained how a Generative Adversarial Network - one of the two common varieties of machine learning agents - defied the intentions of its programmers and started spitting out synthetically engineered maps after being instructed to match aerial photographs with their corresponding street maps. The intention of the study was to create a tool that could more quickly adapt satellite images into Google's street maps. But instead of learning how to transform aerial images into maps, the machine-learning agent learned how to encode the features of the map onto the visual data of the street map.In the first place, this isn't cheating. The program was instructed to adaptively match the two maps as closely as possible, and it did as instructed. If the programmers had wanted to specify that only one map could be altered, they should have specified. In the second place, this isn't new, so it's not "frightening futurism". Devices that adaptively map one surface onto another have been around for a few years, and some of the devices cheat as defined above. The adaptive mapping devices are called "paint" and "clothing". Within the available range of "clothing" AI, some devices (eg "girdles" and "brassieres") are intended to cheat by mapping the inner surface to the outer surface. All three adaptive AI devices (paint, inward-mapping clothing, outward-mapping clothing) in one picture.

The new president got very specific: “The neoliberal model failed.” Characterized by dishonesty in government, and both public and private corruption, it is the source of gross economic and social inequality. Unlike any other time in modern Mexican history since the 1930s, the neoliberal period, beginning in 1983, has been the most inefficient, with concentration of wealth, an enormous wave of emigration and an explosion of anti-social behavior. In short, a “disaster and calamity” for the country, where four out of ten Mexicans live in poverty. Economically, the energy “reform” that Peña Nieto passed has resulted in less production of oil and the failure to build new refineries, importation of half the nation’s consumption of the staple corn, a minimum wage that is among the lowest on Earth, and 24 million Mexican citizens who have chosen, or been forced to emigrate. “Neoliberalism is corruption,” AMLO pronounced without evasion, a robbery and sell-off of the national treasure.Uniquely for a US leftist, this author APPRECIATES the need for more refineries and more farm production. All other US leftists want to see oil and agriculture eliminated. The only way to pacify Gaia is to return to the Stone Age. We must burn only coal and wood, but we can't mine the coal and we can't get the wood from trees. = = = = = Contrarily: Turley, the most consistent and insightful right-populist commentator, still doesn't include AMLO in the list of new nationalists. It's a peculiar way of drawing the line. Italy's populist government is somewhat more left than right in economic terms, and Putin is definitely more left than right. Why include them but not AMLO? If culture is an important determiner, AMLO is firmly on the traditional side. = = = = = Later thought: Maybe I should just be quietly glad that "our" media and commentators are ignoring AMLO. We are required to focus on movements and leaders who are puppets of Deepstate. CIA and MI6 always run "radicals" on both sides of an issue, to discredit real movements through crime and chaos. CIA also runs the media to tell us which movements are "good" and "bad". We are not forced to focus on AMLO, which at least indicates that he's not the main puppet at this moment.
Montmorin tells me, that he considers the Assembly as finished, and this gives me a poor opinion of his sagacity. A few days ago he was in trepidation, but now in a kind of security, both unfounded. He fears, however, yet for the person of the King. He says, that different people are urging him to do different things, but that he sees nothing to be done. I tell him to remain quiet, for the Assembly are now doing everything they can for the King, with the intention to do everything against him. I ask him whereabouts he is with the claims of the German Princes. He says, that he thinks the Emperor will become the intermediary; but that he fears the Count d’Artois and Prince of Condé. I treat this lightly, as supposing that they will only act in favor of the Royal authority; but he says that they will form a party for themselves; by which I understand only, that they will oblige the King to drive away all his former advisers. This is where we are now. Macron's advisers are doing everything they can foragainst him, England is helping to foment the riots, and Holy Roman Emperor Juncker is hoping to become the intermediary for the German princes. Morris wanted to preserve the monarchy in both US and France because he was a hardass realist. He knew that revolutions are always externally promoted for the benefit of external powers. A hereditary monarch wants to live long and stay rich, so he is motivated to give his people some degree of peace and prosperity. This is a large-scale parallel to a similar contemporary trend in business. A family-owned business treats its employees decently because the family wants to keep running the company comfortably and richly. An LBO is a revolution promoted by external powers to destroy the civilization of the company so the external powers can claim the real estate and other assets. We are living in the age of the LBO at all scales. Macron the banker knows LBOs.

Making speeches is at the edge of his tolerance.
His inauguration speech hits ALL the right points, but I'll wait for action. If he gets down to business, we could have the biggest counter-Soros force in the world. But that's still a big IF. His attempted alliance with Faker Trump makes me itchy.

AMLO is simply comfortable in his body and his place, as seen in this New Year's message. He draws graphs with his hands, teaching the message without a blackboard or a written speech. His mission and duty are intrinsic.
I'm more inclined to trust a plain man who is congruent with his mission.Labels: things worth doing
Since apartheid ended in 1994, South Africa’s universities have struggled to transform themselves, leading to escalating student protests over the last three years — including the toppling of a prominent statue of Cecil Rhodes, an infamous colonizer who donated the land on which the University of Cape Town now stands. And as students and academics accelerate the process of decolonization across South African universities, the spotlight has fallen onto mathematics. Exactly what decolonizing math would entail isn’t entirely clear: Curriculum revisions that promote non-Western contributions to the field, new teaching methods rooted in indigenous cultures, and greater openness to ideas outside the academic mainstream are all under discussion. Some want to go further, challenging the philosophical foundations** of mathematics itself.Sounds like the usual SJW crap. But the actual leader of the movement is onto something entirely different and hugely more important.
In his evening classes, meanwhile, Chinyoka hopes to broaden students’ understanding of what they can do with the mathematics they are presented with in lectures — from engineering to academia to law. He believes that South African mathematics should be reframed around the challenges faced by South Africa, as well as other developing countries. In fact Chinyoka is not going far enough in the correct direction. He's treating the real life problems as a supplement after the theory. This is somewhat better than the normal math class which PROHIBITS any mention of the real world. The CORRECT method is to train students in real job-related or household-related solving, and let math come in naturally as a supplement. You're starting to cook a meal for your family. You set out the pans and read the recipe. The recipe is for 4 people but your family is 6 people. Now we have a problem that needs to be solved, and math provides a way to solve it.
After you solve the problem, you can eat the solution.
Back to Chinyoka:
“We still have this more Westernized view: You sit in a mathematics class on topology or abstract algebra, with zero idea about which context it applies to,” he says. Pointing to the current water and energy crises in South Africa, he argues that math should be taught with concrete applications in mind, rather than purely theoretically, which is a luxury afforded only by the West. Not really a Westernized view, more precisely a Krautized view. Before we surrendered to the Krauts, US math and science teaching often had "concrete applications in mind". Around 1910 we went full Kraut. Theory in the morning, theory in the evening, theory at suppertime, concrete applications verboten all the time. Soviet math and science teaching recovered from Krautism, focusing PROPERLY on real-life problem solving. That's why they beat us with Sputnik. As always we learned backwards. Fucking idiots. Chinyoka is on the right track. His approach is better for ALL kids except autists and Krautists. Western math is SOLELY for autists and Krautists. The EXPLICITLY STATED PURPOSE of math class in elementary and secondary school is to FRUSTRATE AND REPEL non-autists, so only the most precise and bizarre and reality-free wackos will end up with PhDs. Unfortunately the movement toward USEFUL APPLICATIONS is confused and conflated with silly DieVersitarian nonsense. Many of the participants are more concerned with measuring Identity than measuring rice yield or baking temperatures or generator output. They are simply replacing one set of useless theories with another set of useless theories. = = = = = ** Footnote: there's no point in challenging the philosophical foundations of math because they don't exist. A real foundation goes in FIRST, and the rest of the building depends on the strength of the foundation. Math developed in all sorts of useful and interesting directions for 5000 years WITHOUT explicit foundations. Around 1880 the Kraut fetish for thoroughness demanded a "logical" foundation, and Krauts shoved in some logic stuff under the massive structure that obviously didn't need the logic stuff. Soon thereafter, a Kraut named Gödel detemined, using the rules of the Kraut logic stuff, that the logic stuff was internally contradictory and thus pointless. So: If you believe that math has philosophical foundations, you must also believe that math can't have philosophical foundations. If you find math to be a wonderfully useful tool for real life problems, you don't need to think about the foundation question. Just use math.

Pope Francis then stopped to reflect on the condition of homelessness faced by at least ten thousand people in Rome. He called their condition a form of slavery “unworthy of the human person”. Jesus too “was born in a similar condition, not by chance or by accident”, the Pope said, “but to demonstrate God’s love for the lowly and the poor”.The specific mention of homelessness in Rome reminded me that Bergoglio, while bashing EVERY OTHER sane and normal and GOOD leader in the world, has never bashed Salvini. Focusing on Rome is getting close to his usual slimy smarmy prurient insinuations, but still not quite there. Perhaps Bergoglio understands that the Italian government surrounds his hypersatanic palaces and controls the electricity and water supplies for his beloved harem of eunuchs. Perhaps he understands that Vatican tax exemptions and judicial immunity depend on the continued sufferance of the Italian government.
