At our most prestigious schools, the primary incentive is to function as finishing school for the national and global elite. Amidst the brick and ivy, these students entertain ever-more-inaccessible theories while often just blocks away their neighbors figure out how to scratch out a living. The priority at most other institutions is simply to avoid financial collapse. They are in a desperate contest to attract a dwindling number of students, who are less and less capable of paying skyrocketing tuition. Over the last three decades, the cost of a degree from a four-year private college has nearly doubled; the cost of a degree from a public university has nearly tripled. The nation’s students owe $1.7 trillion in loans. And to what end? Nearly 40% of those who pursue a college degree do not attain one. We should let that sink in. Higher education fails 4 in 10 of its students. A system that so brazenly extracts so much from so many without delivering on its basic promises is overdue for a reckoning.ON THE FUCKING DOT. This is the main problem, vastly larger and older than the Wokesters. Entirely aside from politics, tenure has steered academia into narrower and narrower bands of subspecialties, with less and less substantial learning and more bizarre delusional theories. Only a few professions actually benefit from the process, and even those professions would be better off with less orthodoxy. I see three inadequate points in their FAQ. 1. They're seeking accreditation, which is a powerful force toward orthodoxy. The accrediting agencies expect maximum Wokitude. 2. I don't see a commitment to avoid tenure. After tenure gets up and running, there's no escape from ever-narrowing orthodoxy. 3. I don't see a Trinity House motivation loop. If they simply invite the right kind of students, the wrong kind of students WILL get in and ruin the setup. Stings and APs have plenty of Deepstate money, and know how to manipulate the system. Maintaining an unorthodox purpose against the headwinds of Parkinson bureaucracy and accrediting agencies requires a more specific feedback loop of money for value. Trinity House, working for safe navigation, has been funded by ships safely reaching port, and it has maintained its purpose for 500 years. Funding for this university needs to depend on students safely reaching the port of independent thinking. How? I don't know, but I'm sure the TWO-WAY OBLIGATION is necessary. Later, after looking at more details... there are some pure Deepstaters in the founding crowd, like Peter Singer and Larry Summers and Strossen of ACLU. The whole thing could be just another fake front.

With Trinity funding, Marconi used South Foreland lighthouse on the White Cliffs for his experiments with radio.
Here's a look at Marconi's transmitter in one of the wings of Foreland, based loosely on a few pics and diagrams.
There are three pieces. Two are derived from telegraphs and clocks, one is new for wireless. I'm not showing the connecting wires here to avoid confusion.
On the left, batteries provide low voltage with high current to the primary of the Transformer.
A transformer works by expanding and contracting the magnetic field. As the primary builds up, its field pushes through the windings of the secondary, developing a current in each turn. If the secondary has more turns than the primary, the output will have higher voltage.
In order to keep the field rising and falling, the Hammerbreak (more familiarly buzzer) operates by negative feedback like a clock pendulum. It begins with a closed switch, causing the magnet to charge up. As the field strengthens, it pulls the Hammer in toward the magnet, opening the switch. As the field collapses, it allows the Hammer to fall back toward the contact, closing again. The inertia of the field and the inertia of the Hammer maintain a steady frequency.
The high voltage AC from the secondary terminals goes directly to the Leyden Jars (capacitors) which are connected by another inductor. The spark is maintained by the high voltage from the secondary. A spark generates a wide range of frequencies. The capacitors tend to shunt the higher frequencies toward ground, and the inductor shorts out the lower frequencies, leaving only the middle frequencies undamped. This form of resonator (a pi-section tank) is still used on transmitters in the tube and transistor eras.
Here I've added the wires in somewhat schematic form. The key breaks the circuit between the batteries and the primary, and the Hammerbreak also breaks the circuit much faster while the key is down. The high voltage secondary goes directly to the spark gap, where the capacitors and inductor narrow down the frequency; then the somewhat tuned output goes up to the antenna.
Finally, the whole thing in operation.
Inventions don't come from theories. Like all parts of life, inventions come from PURPOSES. Inherent dreams and wishes, or perceived needs. Wireless was a perpetual dream, first documented around 300 BC. It had to wait for a long series of materials and techniques, evolved through clocks and telegraphs. None of this development came from theories. Some useful theories came from the development.

Footnote on Marconi, since I normally avoid the Great Names. In some ways he was similar to our tech IPO founders. Young, fairly wealthy, extroverted and charismatic. Other industry founders at the same time were older. The Great Names in the auto industry were around 40 when they founded their eponymous companies. They had already established a career in bicycles or carriages or locomotives. But Marconi was distinctly different from Zuck and Bezos and Elon. He was modest and cautious, always building on previous experience and crediting previous experience. In other words he was an engineer, not a stock scammer.

The other question is, in a universe governed by the same principles of logic, mathematics, physics, and chemistry throughout, it should be possible for intelligent entities to somehow find a way of making contact. The fact that those principles of math and physics can be described abstractly at all seems to show that we do not live in a meaningless universe. Thus, in principle, there is meaning that we — and ET — should be able to find. If extraterrestrial intelligences exist and want to communicate, it will be the same meaning. They won’t have a different “logic” or “mathematics” because they can’t.No, no, no. Logic and math are irrelevant and unnecessary. When we are communicating via radio waves, there is a guaranteed set of commonalities. We don't know anything about the aliens, but we know how their receiver works, and they know how our transmitter works. There are only two basic ways to create and receive electromagnetic waves. Nature does it one way, and human technology does it the other way. Nature alters the static field by moving ions in neurons or tissue. Human tech alters the magnetic field by moving electrons in wires. We know several of Nature's methods. Radio fish simply extend the axons of neurons out of the body in an antenna, with its length tuned to match the impedance of the mud they live in. Flowers transfer ions into petals to send a message to bees, then pull back the ions after the bees have grabbed the pollen. Nature did it WITHOUT USING MATH, and the first humans to send and receive radio were doing it with minimal math. Mostly by trial and error, expanding in directions that seem to work, steering away from directions that don't seem to work. FEEDBACK IS LIFE. So, as I've been saying repeatedly, the communication should be ABOUT the communication. Describe the circuits and antennas in a two-dimensional pattern that can be scanned after the receiving intelligence realizes the scanning freq.
This is how radio hams communicate across cultural barriers, especially when censors are listening. Humor and politics and religion aren't easily understood, and may be deadly. Antenna lengths and circuits can be understood by everyone in the circle.
HOWEVER! Considering that I've been repeating this message for years in the tiny single-culture circle of a few blogs, and nobody has heard it yet, I doubt that we have any chance of communicating to mysterious aliens.

From my study of and experience with establishments, I believe the following natural laws apply: • Because an establishment develops to perform a function, usually at the outset it performs the function very well, and so it derives a great deal of its strength from its belief in the "obvious" importance and worthwhileness of its function. • As an establishment ages over the years, it tends to become more and more blind and bureaucratic in its behavior. • An establishment develops fashions, fads, and mythology such as the "national security" blanket; the "peace with honor" hoax; etc. • An establishment will not willingly tolerate truth that puts it in an unfavorable light. • An establishment is a kind of system, and therefore should be made subject to all the laws for the proper functioning of systems, INCLUDING FEEDBACK CONTROL. In other words, for nearly all the years that an establishment is in existence, the correction and modification of that establishment by applying truth to it is vitally necessary. Here is another reason why those persons who are now ca!led "computer professionals" need to concern themselves with truth, in great variety and on many levels. Information processing is really important only if you are dealing with the truth.Unfortunately it didn't happen. The total transition from analog to digital removed feedback from the technical understanding of the profession. Share Value removed feedback from the economic side of the business. Epstein removed facts and truth. The economic end would probably be easiest to fix, by restoring profit to business and restoring the profit MOTIVE to establishments and governments. Ideally an establishment should gain money by SOLVING problems, not by UNSOLVING problems. I've been discussing this fix in the Trinity House theme.

Renowned psychologist Dan Ariely literally wrote the book on dishonesty. Now some are questioning whether the scientist himself is being dishonest. According to the 2012 paper, when people signed an honesty declaration at the beginning of a form, rather than the end, they were less likely to lie. A seemingly cheap and effective method to fight fraud, it was adopted by at least one insurance company, tested by government agencies around the world, and taught to corporate executives. It made a splash among academics, who cited it in their own research more than 400 times. That leaves Ariely, who confirmed that he alone was in touch with the insurance company that ran the test with its customers and provided him with the data. But he insisted that he was innocent, implying it was the company that was responsible. “I can see why it is tempting to think that I had something to do with creating the data in a fraudulent way,” he told BuzzFeed News. “I can see why it would be tempting to jump to that conclusion, but I didn’t.” According to correspondence reviewed by BuzzFeed News, Ariely has said that the company he partnered with was the Hartford...Sounds like Ariely is naive and unrealistic, not dishonest. The academic side of “social” “science” has been disconnected from reality since 1910 or so. Insurers and marketers have been running real experiments with a real profit motive, so their own findings about behavior and motivation are accurate. Insurers have learned how to judge honesty from BILLIONS of real experiments. Scenario: When Ariely asked Hartford to run this little study, Hartford ACCURATELY JUDGED that Ariely was both influential and naive. They figured that his “results” might lead competing companies to adopt a counterproductive way of judging honesty, thus giving Hartford a competitive advantage. And their little meta-experiment worked. "At least one other insurer" did adopt the dumb trick. This brings us back to the Trinity House theme. Trinity House WAS the insurer, so its own funding of science was motivated toward realism and honesty through a direct feedback loop. If better foghorns or better radio communication helped to keep a ship from crashing, the ship would reach harbor safely and Trinity House would receive a fee for keeping the ship safe. = = = = = Semi-relevant sidenote: Trinity House was developed to catch and eliminate Wreckers, criminals who built false beacons to lead ships onto the rocks so the criminals could loot the wreck. The interesting interactive radio show 'Calling All Detectives' had one episode about a modern Wrecker.

Do note that creating incentives to uncover fraudulent research will be incentives to falsely frame genuine research as being fraudulent (which I consider at least as bad, if not worse). There is really no escaping in the current system - you can try to address some of the symptoms, but you cannot change people's behavioural patterns. It's time to do for research what FDR did for banks. Shut down and sort out. We need a year-long LOCKDOWN of all research. Not just medical research, ALL ALL ALL ALL research. None of it is necessary. A very few projects are aimed at solving real problems. The vast vast vast majority is aimed at CREATING problems and killing people. During the year-long pause, sort out the good from the bad. Carefully resume the dozen or so useful projects, using a Trinity House approach, via a mutual insurance structure.
Each project must bring in a profit by saving lives. The funder charges a fee to the companies that benefit from increased and improved lives. Any project that doesn't actually save actual lives will be cancelled forever.

From the top:
In action:
A simple orrery, not intended to be accurate, using 'electrical spray'
to drive the earth and sun. Each pivot represented a center of gravity,
and a pointed pin on each concentrated the overcharge and let it spray, like a reaction rocket.
= = = = =
Now I'll use Ferguson's real orrery as a branching point to a larger topic. (In later parts I'll return and use the orrery for more specific
conjunctions and oppositions.)
This is a geocentric orrery unlike most modern types. The earth is the central pivot, and the sun and planets orbit around it. The mechanism is driven by a clockwork motor in the can under the sun.
Running through a year in fast motion:
And the same from above with other stuff cleared out, showing only the planets:

Detour into determinism vs freewill.
There's no way to figure out which is ultimately right. Most indications tend toward determinism in most things. We may have freedom of decision in small things, but negative feedback should pull us back toward natural law.
Islam says that since we can't know the real combination for sure, we have to assume determinism.
Christians were totally for freewill, and the Endarkenment of the 1700s got SERIOUS about freewill, (see "rights") in order to give full range to the Innovative Disruptive psychopaths of the French Terror.
Assuming determinism leads to a happier and healthier culture. If you know how things are supposed to run, you can detect departures from Natural Law and steer back into the lane. If you don't resonate with a natural pattern, you're vulnerable to every new monstrosity. As we see now.

Back to astronomy:
Islam picked up astronomy from the Greeks around 800 AD, and refined it tremendously, always aiming to know the will of the universe by reading the patterns of planets and stars.
When Euros came back to astronomy in the 1500s, they picked up the Islamic work and resumed along the same lines. Early astronomers were purely astrologers in the modern sense.
Kepler was interested in the stars for useful purposes. He designed a system of weather prediction, and was also thinking about human influences.
He explained the motivation for his work:
A most unfailing experience of the excitement of sublunary natures by the conjunctions and aspects of the planets, has instructed and compelled my unwilling belief.
The excitement of sublunary natures includes everything that happens on earth.
At that point in history astrology WAS a science in the precise sense. Astrologers observed and measured star and planet positions in order to predict weather and cultural changes. Other scientists observed and measured the positions and shapes of electrostatic fields and magnetic fields. Others observed and measured the positions of small physical objects in order to predict and build engines and mousetraps. Same practices, same methods, same focus on USEFUL RESULTS.
Nature is lawful. Nature is determined. If we can figure out the laws, we can use them reliably.
At that point in history, astronomy on its own was ENTERTAINMENT. If you just wanted to see the stars and paint pictures of them, you were having fun, not trying to do useful work.
The two purposes FLIPPED, by a mysterious and accidental coincidence, at the same time as the French terror. Robespierre and Marat needed to abolish all beacons, all external influences and predictive laws, so they could be perfectly FREE to destroy minds and culture and people. So they declared purposeful science to be "unorthodox science" and banned it.
= = = = =
And back to Ferguson's geocentric orrery.
Holding the earth steady makes it easier to chart and visualize how planetary angles cause sublunary influences. In a heliocentric model everything is moving, so it's much harder to see.
The interplanetary magnetic field is shaped by the motions and magnetic pulls of all the planets. For the sake of modeling, I've drawn the magnetic field as a surface below the planets. Venus has a positive pull and Mars has a negative pull. This corresponds to one Kepler-derived scheme of planetary influence, attributing raininess to Venus and dryness to Mars.
When Venus and Mars are in opposition across Earth, a sharp gradient is formed:
When Venus and Mars are more distant and off-angle, there's no particular gradient around earth, so no particular influence:
This field does a good job of modeling the influences found by Kepler and his followers through experiment and observation.
What's the mechanism? The interplanetary field shapes long-term weather patterns in two ways, one definite and the other speculative.
1. Definite: The field directly moves and shapes our semi-liquid iron core, which moves heat into different areas of the globe. The icecaps are melting FROM BELOW, not from above. The Gulf Stream is being redirected FROM BELOW, not by the atmosphere.
2. Speculative: Bacteria and other plankton are magnet-driven. They navigate by the declination of the field, riding a declination line up or down. When the declination lines change, as they are doing now, bacteria move in different ways, redistributing shade and photosynthesis and nutrition in the ocean. Think Nino/Nina.
The magnetic field shapes human behavior in two ways, both speculative.
1. Our cerebellum has an antenna for electromagnetic fields. We don't do a lot of navigating, but we respond in unknown ways to changes in the planet-scale field. When it's stronger, we may be more synchronized and harmonious. When it's weaker, we have less guidance. As now.
2. Bacteria again. Our digestion is performed by bacteria, which are presumably responsive to magnetic fields like the ocean bacteria. When the field weakens or strengthens, they will behave accordingly. Right now the earth's field is weaker, which means the bacteria are confused and sluggish. See Obesity.
The next part will dig into the Islamic approach in more detail.

Similarly, don’t burden your lectures and presentations and published papers with unnecessary Darwin-speak. As Joe Friday would demand, “Just the facts ma’am.” You have great substance in the research you’re doing. Stick with that and focus on the actual observed evidence. In your next lecture, rather than saying, “We’re going to examine an amazing molecular machine that nature evolved,” just say, “We’re going to examine an amazing molecular machine found in nature.”The FCC fairness doctrine forced this type of factual objectivity on radio for 40 years. It worked. Was it possible to have political comedy without partisan teams? Certainly. The expert comedians of Ignorant did it all the time. "How did you get to be so stupid?" "Easy. First I went to Washington...." Insults aimed at politicians were aimed at ALL POLITICIANS, not Republicans. This is JUST THE FACTS, since there is precisely no difference between D and R. When the Fairness Doctrine was abolished, it opened the way for Deepstate to create Symmetrical Scapegoating. We insult the PEOPLE on the other team. We never insult ALL POLITICIANS. Therefore ALL POLITICIANS can now get away with mass murder. Therefore they do. Incidentally, the target of Anderson's advice could also take some advice from Simon Fraser. He explored the area now occupied by BC. He named a river after his logbook-keeper who found the river, but he refused to name a river after himself because he wasn't convinced it was truly a separate river. He refused a knighthood and died poor. JUST THE FACTS.

I hope I’m wrong, but I have this vision of the life cycle of corporations and nation states. I saw what IBM was going through and a lot of people are worried that China is becoming more capitalist than we are in a funny way. Here in South America I see US influence disappearing. China is now the leading trade partner for a lot of countries in South America rather than the United States.Same in Africa, the bright future of science and thinking. China's colonialism is purely commercial, not cultural. We always forced our colonies to adopt our insane anti-God culture. China skips all of that crap and just deals with local farmers and factories, helping them to improve their production to maximize profit for them AND for China. That's not "capitalism in a funny way", it's CAPITALISM. What we do is TYRANNY.
...From the point of view of creativity, I think that the best thing to do would be to split up the European community in separate countries and split up the US in separate States. Because that would give more freedom of action to creative people instead of having a central bureaucracy. The bad part: Splitting the political units won't help. It would have helped before the Web, but now the Web unites and synchronizes tyranny. Splitting political units ain't gonna happen anyway. Everything is absolutely frozen. Nothing can change or move. The good part: Dividing the web is INSTANTLY possible, and EVERYONE can do it for themselves. No influence or force or blackmail needed. Just disconnect as much as you can. A new learning center (as in Trinity House) could disconnect its campus entirely, and maintain a well-policed airgap to protect its thoughts and discussions and SKILLS and intellectual property from Amazon and Google. No wi-fi on campus. Only pure analog communication allowed, through carefully protected internal wires. Even better, replace electrical transfer of information with air modulated by sound waves in some way not yet invented. Replace HDD and RAM with some new type of memory storage that can't be hacked or modified or read remotely. Perhaps this new form of memory could use very thin sheets of flexible material, with characters formed on the surface of the sheets by some kind of pigmented gum or glue. The sheets would be compressed into rectangular data-packets, which could then be stacked or carried easily. A means of reading this memory device would also have to be invented, perhaps a rotatable video unit connected directly to the human brain and mounted inside the skull.

The introduction of Broadcasting seems to me to be comparable with the introduction of printing. Less than five hundred years ago the Classics, the Holy Scriptures, the legends and poetry of Europe existed only in manuscript and could be studied only by the tiny class of literate men. There were no novels and no newspapers. Ideas were preached from the pulpit, and news passed from mouth to mouth. Amongst the people at large there was a literary stagnation. Then came the invention of printing. A great extension of education naturally followed, and nowadays the whole of the world's literature is open to anyone who cares to read it. To some extent the gramophone has already done for music what printing did for literature. But Broadcasting will do far more, for it makes fine musical performance easier to come by, and dirt cheap.Scholes on music itself, showing a clear understanding of nature vs nurture:
Music has its times of exaltation as of depression. It passes, in imaginative interpretation, through all the phases and moods of running water. It is light and sparkling as a stream on a sunlit height. It flows placidly between grassy banks and under overhanging willows in happy pastureland. Sometimes we hear it thunder among the rocks; but it may please us best when it glances softly in the moonlight. The ability to hear the message is not possessed by all, and it is the privilege of those so equipped, whether by endowment or endeavour, to lead others to a higher appreciation. Effort is involved before the significance of music is revealed, but the study is not laborious and the reward is ample.Scholes lays down a principle that holds true for all sorts of combinations, whether music or text or work or food:
The principle of musical form is very easy to grasp. It rests on the psychological fact that fatigue comes from overmuch repetition of anything we do — whether it be chopping wood or listening to conversation. Change is a sort of repose, so that some people, exaggerating, of course, declare that "change of work is as good as a holiday." You cannot listen forever to music. You want conversation and reading and games and other occupations as your "change." And when listening to music you cannot listen all the time to the same pieces. You want a varied programme if you are to listen for so long as one whole evening. And in listening to each piece in that programme, you would soon get tired if it consisted of mere repetitions of the same Tune. So just as the programme is made up of a number of pieces, each piece is made of two or more Tunes, generally designed as foils to one another, and repeated at intervals with some sort of intervening matter.Scholes worked for BBC, assembling those programs with narration, so this was his specialty. = = = = = Copyrights and patents have always missed this middle territory of combiners and builders. Copyrights only applied to the text itself, or the music itself as registered on music paper. The way of printing a text, or the style used by a conductor or narrator or chef or researcher, is not copyrightable. Scholes's publisher nicely illustrated the importance of performance style in printing:
The choice of a typeface full of ligatures creates an artistic impression that can't be copyrighted.
With patents, the invention itself may be patented, but the tricks and tools and workflow of a craftsman or factory when building the invention are not patentable.
In a stable culture where human souls have value, the PROPERTY of performance has value. Unions and guilds and lodges formerly preserved and protected the PROPERTY of performance in a more rigorous way.
Now all culture is gone, all contact is forbidden, all communication must pass through the official Five Eyes channels, all guilds are gone, and all written laws are gone. The ever-changing sadistic cruelty of demons is all we have.
Even if this year's extreme and perfectly unprecedented cruelty gradually fades away in some places, culture and human souls have been permanently broken.
= = = = =
Footnote: Unsurprisingly, none of Scholes's broadcasts have been preserved. Even though Dictaphones were common in the '20s, radio was very rarely recorded until around '32. The definitive Goldindex of old radio has nothing by Scholes. There are a couple of snarky parody recordings on Youtube. The voice is clearly recorded live on modern equipment; I can't tell if he's reading from Scholes books or writing his own parody.

This address was originally planned as a resume of the progress during 1912, but one topic has become the main subject to the exclusion of the resume. However, I wish to mention before proceeding that Lee de Forest has given us an excellent account of some notable long distance work and observatrions with an interesting theory which may help to overcome radio absorption.Hmm. DeForest gave us a THEORY. What's missing? DeForest also gave us the AUDION, which wasn't interesting to this THEORETICIAN. DeForest didn't understand the Audion theoretically; he just showed that it could be used to send and receive audio.
We frequently hear that the United Fruit Company has practically the best radio service. If this is true, it may indicate that the steamship companies would obtain better radio service if they bought their apparatus outright and hired their own operators and engineers.United Fruit was one of the main foundations of the Sherburne Hopkins proto-Deepstate, just before Wilson brought it into government and formalized it. Deepstate always has the best radio, the best everything.
There are at least 18 members of this Institute who are capable of designing and constructing far better apparatus than is commonly found on steamships today, and there are at least four companies that sell such apparatus. In favor of the method of obtaining apparatus through competitive bids, the fact may be stated that the US Army and Navy get superior apparatus by specifying what is wanted and then calling for bids. Radio communication is valuable to the public in general. It is particularly valuable to the ocean-going public, steamship companies, marine underwriters, newspapers, shippers, armies, navies and weather bureaus. For all this service the public probably pays in the end, but the most apparent payment is made by the steamship companies. What's missing? Entertainment. Music. Speech. Beauty. LOCAL radio stations using and cultivating LOCAL talent. What's present? Military + Shipping + Newspapers + Weather Bureau = Globalism. GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS were already the pot of gold as seen by Big Electronics. The IRE was stuck in Marconi's mode of thinking, which simply turned the transatlantic telegraph cable into a transatlantic radio beam. In 1913 the UNOFFICIAL amateurs and tinkerers were already sending music and speech, using both Alexanderson alternators and DeForest audions.
