Reading an old Collectible Auto article on the design of the Edsel, written by a detail man who was part of the process but didn't know anything about design.
He said that the "nostalgic front" clashed with the space-age rear.
NOSTALGIC? Just obscene. A cunt.
Worst of all, it was NOT nostalgic for Ford's own design history, and specifically blasphemous to the design achievement of the real Edsel Ford.
In terms of vertical and horizontal fronts, here's what Edsel did:
First he moved the headlights DOWN into the fenders and added a horizontal blending element between the fenders. Then he REMOVED the vertical grille entirely and made the front fully horizontal. Most other carmakers followed suit in the next two years.
The obscene Edsel car RETURNED to a grotesque parody of free-standing headlights and a vertical grille, thus explicitly insulting and reversing what Edsel himself had done for car design.
