Grammar is another name for value creation

MindMatters tries to separate out human language from animal communication:
Believers in human non-exclusivity do not appear to be especially picky about what counts as evidence for their views. For example, here’s a research finding that is supposed to be evidence that birds use grammar:

For a long time, scientists were convinced that animal communication lacked any sentence structure. But in 2016, Japanese researchers published a study in Nature Communications on the vocalizations of great tits. In certain situations, the birds combine two different calls to warn each other when a predator approaches. They also reacted when the researchers played this sequence to them. However, when the call order was reversed, the birds reacted far less. “That’s grammar,” says Brensing.

No. That isn’t grammar. The birds just didn’t understand the wrong-sequence call. By the way, how did we get so fast in the same story from whales to birds? Is that for lack of evidence for grammar among whales and any related species?
Correct on the birdcalls. That's music, not grammar. You could call it vocabulary, but it's still not grammar. A different sequence of notes (pure sines) is a different word, just as a different sequence of phonemes (harmonies) is a different word. Exactly the same mechanism.

People who WORK with animals tend to have the best and most detailed communication with them. Before motorcars, most people knew how to talk with horses.

The trainers at Seaworld, before they were fired by Die-Versity and Animal "Rights", knew how to communicate with dolphins and orcas. Legends say that some sailors and fishermen also knew how to collaborate with dolphins.

The key point is WORK. Animals with a social sense of duty and morality, and a need to be useful, can collaborate with humans.

Grammar arises from work and duty. Without UTILITY there is no grammar.

= = = = = START REPRINT:

Languages vary hugely, but there are some fairly distinct asymptotes or pivot points. In syntax and noun forms, the asymptote is NGDA. Nominative, genitive, dative, accusative. Many languages have inflections to denote other relationships between an object and the world, but as a language develops it tends to simplify down to NGDA and stay there. Even after the case endings dissolve or merge, NGDA still remains firmly marked in word order.

Why is NGDA optimal? It describes the basic relationships in any social structure, whether we're talking about dogs or humans or bees. When you have NGDA you have a society and vice versa.

= = = = = END REPRINT.

Nominative is the worker. Genitive is the ownership of the material being worked on. Dative is the customer who receives the work. Accusative is the product being worked on. Instrumental is skills and tools.

Verb forms are equally obvious. Imperative is the command to start work. Present is a report on what I'm doing right now. Past is the finished timecard or worklog. Future is a promise to work on the next item, or seeds saved for next season. Reflexive is work done for myself, practicing skills toward the next exchange of value.

Without work and duty and usefulness, there's no REASON for any of these forms. Without two-way obligations there's no need for promises and commands and reports.

  I understand

Some people are taking the Medieval Mode seriously enough to build 'house churches', in the traditions of the Catacombs.

These beautiful secret chapels are miniature churches, in readiness to shelter a traditional priest when the Bergoglian management kicks him out.

I understand. I'm a long long way from Christian, but I've been equipping my unbeautiful little house with the 'externals' of my peculiar Islamicoid faith. Astrolabes, coherers, Morse transmitters. I pray twice a day in Morse, as a way of resonating with the universe's magnetic patterns. Not unlike the traditional Catholics praying in Latin. Fitting the request into an orderly structure, hoping to increase the store of order and counterbalance the demonic frenzy of chaos.

  Grandpa said it

Continuing from previous item.

1. The sequence of events is a good example of evolution by subtraction, which is the way Nature, language, and human inventions work. The first genome, or the first language, or the first version of an invention, has all the features it needs. As the genome spreads into different places and creatures, or the language spreads to different people with different tendencies, or the invention tries to seek a global audience, the product simplifies.

My 2004 loader had all the features needed. Some of them were later incorporated into Poser itself, and some of them were copied in the plagiarizer's loader.

2. Fast change destroys creativity. When rules and programs and browsers are constantly changing, you have to carve away pieces of your product or mind or soul on each side to remain alive. Adapting to all possible countries and all possible users forces rigid conformity.

3. Rentalism is an alternate form of globalism. When you don't have direct control of the product or house or life, you can't learn or create effectively. Learning and creativity require a STABLE SITUATION so you can distinguish between constants and variables. When the machine or culture is constantly stealing control from your own hands, you eventually give up and stop trying to create.

Reminds me of what my dying grandpa tried to tell me in 1962.

= = = = = START REPRINT:

This line of thought originated from a specific conversation with Grandpa in 1962. Grandpa was dying early from alcohol and tobacco, and the family went to visit him one last time. As we hung around Grandpa's house, or visited nearby parks, Grandpa kept saying true things, and parents kept trying to Rectify him, nervously painting over the facts with conventional leftist crap. I wasn't sure what to think. Grandpa's observations matched what I saw with my own eyes, but didn't match what I'd always heard from parents and TV and books.

I think Grandpa got tired of being painted out. At one point he decided to go for beer and cigarettes (yeah, those were killing him, but it was too late to stop) and took me along. No parents, just me. I don't remember most of the conversation but I remember one emphasized item that seemed to summarize his intentions.

We were talking about his old '52 Ford Mainline. I must have been asking why anyone would want a plain car with no power steering, no radio, no automatic, none of the 'exciting' stuff that 'everyone wanted' in 1962.

Grandpa pointed to the manual choke. He told me that Ford was the only car that still offered a manual choke. He said it was important to have a simple car that you could understand and fix by yourself, and it was important to have direct control over the car.

Extend car to life, and there's the message.

Same as Carver's message.

Look about you. Take hold of the things that are here. Talk to them. Let them talk to you.

Dying old engineer trying to pass the key to young potential engineer. He succeeded. I've done a shitty job of following his advice, but I've always remembered and tried.

Picture found on Quora. I'm probably busting a copyright, but I no longer give a fuck. This is PERFECT.

I tried to make the same point here, but didn't get anywhere near the same perfection.

  Renewing the medieval mode AGAIN

Bad dreams reminded me of a vow I'd made a few weeks ago during a power outage.

Even attempting to think about the monsters in charge of this mess is UNHEALTHY. Stick to medieval mode. Know that the monsters are evil and stay COMPLETELY AWAY from their evil thought processes. Don't try to guess what they're doing or why. Maintain separate mental spaces.

Just do your duty, serve godliness, and pray HARD that fate will send somewhat less evil rulers.

There are no "correct" "sides", there are only toxic topics.

  Zuhlsdorf's mysterious mission

Zuhlsdorf is setting out on a new mission, which is somewhat mysterious.

There are only a few publicly visible writers who have an unyielding unflinching HARDASS understanding of HARDASS reality. Zuhlsdorf is one. McAfee, despite all his Bitcoin nonsense, is another. Edward Curtin and Joseph Pearce are in the same category, though more specialized.

I started reading Zuhlsdorf occasionally when he was discussing Latin vs English. He GETS language, and especially the role of grammar in building mental spaces.

Then he showed a total understanding of the "both sides" game, and gained the skills and technology for REAL alt media by acquiring a ham license.

I hadn't read him in a while. Now, unsurprisingly, he GETS the "virus" holocaust.

His new mission is inchoate and not fully established, but after three unique exhibitions of total understanding, I'm inclined to trust his intentions and help concretely.

Equipoise. Pay for value, pray for value.

  Bimetralism vs bilingualism vs bimetallism

Following from previous item on dual calendar systems.

People who know two or more languages have more flexible brains. This has been observed for a long time, and recent research with MRIs has shown that it's physical. Shifting between two languages gives you two mental spaces that operate separately.

We don't have a lot of dual calendars now. As mentioned, Thailand has the only active dual calendar. Muslims and Jews use traditional lunar calendars for religious purposes and the Gregorian for secular.

In other areas of measurement, most of the world is purely metric. Only USA is dual. We use metric for some types of work and English for most.

Broadly, everything related to buildings and land is purely English. Everything related to electronics is purely metric. Other types of work are mixed. (Countertrendly, computers REdeveloped a non-decimal NATURAL measurement system for memory bytes.)

Fashionable tyrants constantly mock USA for speaking only one language, AND constantly mock USA for speaking two measurement systems. Can't have it both ways.

Before the dominance of central banks, most of the world used multiple currency systems. Gresham's Law is unfamiliar now, but it was never correct anyway.

In many disorganized third-world countries dual or triple currencies are still common, and the people are adept in using them to advantage.

When your country uses semi-official dollars and official hyperinflated Zmakniks, people know the value of each common item AND THE VARIABILITY in both dollars and Zmakniks. Since the Zmakniks are low-value and fast-changing, most people will prefer to use the higher-value and more stable dollar. This is NOT what Gresham says.

Gresham only works in a peculiar situation where the high-value currency can become a PHYSICAL collectible, while the low-value currency has no intrinsic value AS COINS. In that case the gold coins will be saved up, and the non-collectible banknotes will circulate.

A process similar to Gresham-for-collectibles sometimes happens with other types of measurement. When two units are available and one is high-status, the high-status unit will be applied to high-status items like vintage wine and BMWs, while the low-status unit continues to measure ordinary items. The distinction shows up nicely in foodie circles, where high-fashion OCD diets measure food in precise metric terms, while ordinary people measure in English or plain natural systems. OCD rich fuckheads consume 0.187 kilograms of Drizzled Reduction Nanoprotein Medallions, while ordinary humans eat a handful of chips.

(There! I managed to use all four of my related hashtags meaningfully!)

  COBOL as icon

The Github/Room 101 mindset is the deep terminal disease of recent times. It's a major instance of the psychopathic need to obliterate the universe.

This part of the urge is always present in psychopaths, and it was accurately recognized in earlier times.

Quora's programming language section has some discussions about COBOL that illustrate the distinction beautifully. When I hit Quora just now to find examples, the very first item turned out to be a perfect Self-Explanatory Sentence.....

Question:

Are there any old programming languages that are still in use?

Answer:

FORTRAN (63 years), COBOL (60 years), BASIC (56 years), C (48 years), SQL (42 years), C++ (35 years), Objective-C (32 years), Python (29 years), and Java (25 years) are all fairly old and still used (though COBOL is pretty specialized legacy code today). The first three are older than I am.
COBOL is specialized legacy code / Older than I am.

Self-explanatory sentence.

This is the Github view. Old shit is specialized legacy shit and you shouldn't be using it, and we will PROHIBIT YOU FROM USING IT. Any attempt to use tools or thinking from the filthy Neanderthal knuckle-dragging previous femtosecond will halt your life and crash your computer.

In the Github world, the PURPOSE of programming is to spend 100% of your mental time relearning, and 100% of your computer's CPU time processing updates. Windows 10 implements this purpose perfectly.

What is the original intended purpose of a TOOL like computers? The real purpose of any TOOL is to help you GET WORK DONE.

Fortunately the GET WORK DONE side is also well represented in Quora, by older WORKERS and even some younger WORKERS in places like Brazil.

Reality: In the world of computers that DO WORK, most of the WORK is done by COBOL. The part of the computing world that is truly needed, the part that would completely collapse the whole economy if it failed, is COBOL.

To a first approximation, computing = COBOL.

And there's a simple reason, which I didn't understand until I started reading these discussions. I'm older than COBOL but I didn't start programming until 1983, and I didn't start in the world of commerce. I started in audio processing, first with 8086 and PDP-11 assembly, then Basic, then C.

Simple reason:

COBOL handles money naturally and intrinsically.

The newer languages, including FORTRAN, all start from a theoretical math view of numbers where floating-point arithmetic is the base.

Digital computers are counters and sorters, not slide rules or theoretical equations on blackboards. Our stupid official history starts with Babbage, who was actually a dead end. Nothing came from Ada except some modern rebuilt legends. The real history of computing starts with Hollerith's counter and sorter, and the real history of programming starts with IBM mainframes counting and sorting money, programmed first in machine codes then soon in COBOL. IBM is uncool, so we can't mention it in our official histories.

Money doesn't use floating point. Money is naturally columnar. I've discussed this in the context of ancient bookkeeping:

= = = = = START REPRINT:

A ledger from the store that was outfitting fur traders in the Louisiana Territory around 1812. It's in French, with some plain English. Deeply fascinating to an old bookkeeper. I'm sure real historians have answered all these questions, but I'm having fun trying to solve them.

Title on first page:

La Compagny des Fourures du Missoury dans son Avanture.

Here's the top few lines of an account for trader Brice Arnold, showing the ledger structure clearly.

The debit column (Doit) is equipment sold to the fur traders, the credit column (Avoir) is furs bought from the traders. Note the Avoir column is closed out with "Your bill given this day."

The money units are puzzling. The two columns are P and S. My first thought was Poids et Shillings, but it appears that Pesos were the dominant currency in the territory at that time. The S unit is 100ths of the P unit, not 8ths or 20ths. According to online sources, the peso would have been divided into 8 reales at this time, and centavos didn't start until 1863. No firm answer to this question. Was it just US dollars and cents, labeled P and S by tradition?

We have the $ sign on totals, which meant pesos before it meant dollars. One credible explanation of the symbol traces it to a habit of writing an abbreviation for Pesos as a big P with a little s as a diacritic on top. These clerks were precise with their pens, and their dollar sign always had a big belly and a little head. You can almost see a big P with a little s riding on it. They clearly weren't thinking of the whole symbol as an S with lines through it; their uppercase S is entirely different.

Note the marks after each number. Decimal points? Nope, ditto marks. The clerk meticulously repeated the ditto after each number in each column, indicating that all the left numbers were P and all the right numbers were S.

Columnar accounting belongs to the Roman era, not to the modern place-value era. Monetary units were mostly non-decimal, so the tradition of recording each unit in its own independent column made sense, and there was no reason for decimal points. Note that some of the S numbers are followed by fractions, which was still common in US pricing up till WW2 when inflation made fractional cents meaningless.

= = = = = END REPRINT.

Units are not floating point. Fractions are not floating point. Many fractions can't be represented uniquely and cleanly in floating point. A ledger with the proper set of columns corresponding to units can always represent the fractions that people actually use.

The human brain has separate processing systems for analog continua and countable units. We use both in business for different purposes.

The analog side judges the quality and status of different products with the help of senses and muscles. For products that are actually used, like the whiskey and gunpowder and furs in the example, we judge by using and working. We compare one whiskey with another in a totally analog way, leading to an analog decision. You prefer Jack Daniels, but you'll take Old Crow if Jack isn't around. There is no binary step anywhere.

The counting side works with units, which can be single coins or single banknotes or written columns in the ledger.

These units MUST BE DIGITAL. Paying or billing an analog amount is physically impossible and legally meaningless. Decimal currencies hide this fact by eliminating irrational fractions, but through history most currency systems included irrational fractions. In the LSD system, a bill for 5 pence would be 5/12 of 1/20 of a pound, expressed in floating as 0.02083333unending pounds. If we write the bill this way, there's no way to determine whether it was paid properly or not. But if we have a column for pence, we can bill or pay 5 pence and know precisely whether the debt is satisfied.

= = = = =

Later: I installed one of the COBOL compilers for Windows and started learning to use COBOL. This is fun! The more I see how COBOL works, the more I wish I'd tried it in college back in 1967. I'm a natural bookkeeper, not a natural theoretical mathematician. COBOL would have been instantly pleasing to my clerical genes. FORTRAN was always frustrating because I couldn't see the purpose of the examples.

  Got curious

Speaking of mental self-defense....

A couple weeks ago in an item about the Lucid Interval of the 1930s I was quoting a remarkably sane article by a certified expert, John Erskine.

At the end I sidenoted the education inherent in low-budget radio programs....
Sidenote from another angle: Erskine was undervaluing some of the education available in plain commercial programs, especially the low-budget syndicated serials. Ann of the Airlanes was packed with serious information about geography and technology, presented in digestible form. Dick Tracy organized the young listeners in Detective Clubs. For 5 boxtops of Quaker cereals you got a Secret Decoder Ring, and every episode gave you a "coded" message to solve, so you could stay ahead of the villain. Kids who spent time on that task were learning more about language than the idiotic fictional "grammar" they were hearing from Miss Marley.
Well, I got curious, so I found a Decoder Book (not Decoder Ring) on Ebay and bought it.

The book is pocket-size:

The book and other items like badges and rings were 'premiums' acquired by sending in boxtops from Quaker cereals.

Most of the book is organizational advice and OpSec training for the Secret Detective Clubs. The radio program had a virtual 'meeting' at the end of each episode, with a message to decode. Each message started with a keyword followed by a series of numbers. I wrote down one of the messages:

FOOTBALL
10 11 7 17 11 26
17 9 12 25
5 17 6 15
11 25 13 3 26

The keyword made me wonder if the cipher was a Vigenere style, but it's not that complicated.

There were three active keywords, each leading to a different 'static' transposition, not a 'mobile' transposition as in Vigenere or the Hagelin machines. The transpositions are nicely randomized, indicating that the program must have paid a real cryptographer for advice.

Unfortunately the episodes available online are from a different year with a different set of keywords, so I couldn't actually decipher the message. But I did satisfy my curiosity about the type of cipher. (The book cost $35, so I'm not going to buy a different edition to find the right keywords!)

The writers gave especially good advice about when and how to use ciphers without making the use obvious. They advised club members to send at least one message to each of the other local members every day, to stay in practice. Learning with a purpose!

Members were also supposed to learn Morse and use it in a variety of ways for private signaling. Club members were learning the essentials of communication and meaning, and developing their own private modes of communication.

Before WW1 the Army Signal Corps was training its members in a similar way, mastering creative communication so they could circumvent enemy interception without central guidance.

Needless to say, no school or media or corporation is going to sponsor this category of learning now. No codes, no private OpSec. Only NSA-created and NSA-backdoored digital encryption is allowed, and creative modes are never discussed.

  We won't allow

Still thinking about the hail cannons and cloud seeders and self-defense.

I made the weather connection in Polistra's 2008 time-travel story. After popping up in 1939 to escape the awfulness of 2008 (little did she know that things would continue getting unimaginably more awful!) she encounters Fran, her 1939 alter ego. Part of the discussion:

= = = = =

Fran: Well, what great advances has America made since '39? Cured cancer?

Pol: No. We have lots of fancy machines and drugs, but except for childhood leukemia, which we can definitely cure, we haven't improved the survival rate in general. You could even say that the fancy machines make things worse, because people know about the cancer earlier.

Fran: That's dismal. Well, cured infantile paralysis?

Pol: Yes, in 1954.

Fran: Cured the common cold?

Pol: No.

Fran: Have you controlled weather? Built domed cities?

Pol: No. In fact we have decided to make no progress in that area. We haven't gone beyond cloud-seeding, and even though we know it works, we won't allow ourselves to do it.

= = = = =

As mentioned before, the common cold question would have halted the story if I'd tried to write this piece now. Instead of curing the common cold, which didn't need curing anyway, we decided to imprison and gag and kill everyone to halt the spread of the common cold. We decided to treat ordinary people VASTLY WORSE than we treat prisoners convicted of crimes. I've been there and I know.

= = = = =

Focusing on the weather point:

We won't allow ourselves to do it is the key. At that time I didn't know about hail cannons, which would have strengthened the point, especially in hail-prone Oklahoma.** Both technologies WORK to prevent damage. They're not complete or always reliable, so you don't want to use them loosely. When properly targeted and considered, both techs can save billions of dollars.

The same applies to ALL forms of self-defense.

The 2nd amendment dudes are always chanting nonsense about an armed population preventing tyranny. This was always nonsense. There's no correlation. Many unarmed countries have decent rulers, and many well-armed countries have dictators. As of this year, the chant ought to be perfectly unchantable. Half of America is armed, but the demonic governors and mayors went right ahead and killed everyone. No deterrence. Only the BLM rioters have tried to attack mayors, and they were doing it because the mayors were INSUFFICIENTLY DEMONIC for their tastes, not because the mayors are TOO DEMONIC for the survival of civilization. Pluponents, not opponents.

In all areas from weather to computers to health to government, we HAVE the weapons but we refuse to use them. The most egregious part of this refusal applies to the INTRINSIC weapons in our own bodies and minds. TV and social media have neutralized our mental immunity with Room 101, and the Public Death Officers have neutralized our physical immunity with panic and lockdowns and murder masks. As I noted yesterday, the same Public Death Officers are using lockdowns against pollution, instead of allowing us to make our own judgments and adapt our own bodies.

= = = = =

** In fact the hail cannons, if I had known about them, would be the only valid argument in Okla. I wrote about cloud seeding because it was relevant to the Dust Bowl, but seeding requires clouds. A region is afflicted by drought because the clouds are simply going elsewhere, not because the clouds are reluctant to release rain. Hail cannons were known to work in 1902, before Okla was a state; and Okla always has more hail than the rest of the country.

  Reprinting the Self-Defense Charter

Convective and conjunctive thought based on the hail cannons and the cloud seeders.

Both of these technologies are forms of self-defense against weather. Both of them WORK. They don't work perfectly or constantly, but they work VASTLY better than doing nothing at all.

Both are remarkably efficient in terms of energy and material used. Grelifuges use small acetylene explosions to turn hail into rain. Seeding uses about 4 pounds of silver iodide powder to create a substantial rainstorm. (The Cold Rain seeding used aircraft, which are highly inefficient; but it could now be done with electric drones. 4 pounds is an easy load for a drone.)

Both have been disdained and deleted by official "science" for a long time.

We're seeing the same disdain and deletion now for ordinary immunity. Our immune systems are forms of self-defense. They don't work perfectly, but they take care of most viruses most of the time. Vaccines help them deal with a few especially deadly and contagious viruses like measles and smallpox. Immunity has no cost at all, except the discipline of living a relatively healthy life. Sunlight, exercise, proper food, confidence, work, sleep. Vaccines are a microscopic dose of weakened virus, applied once or twice in a lifetime.

I've been talking about the destruction of self-defense for a long time. Here's one compendium of the subject.

= = = = = START REPRINT:

Let's put together a broad set of equivalences, starting with the idea that Natural Law is meant to provide an INHIBITORY response or NEGATIVE FEEDBACK for Deplorables against Insatiables.

How do you get from order to chaos and death? Positive feedback. Exponential functions. Wanting everything.

How do you restore and maintain order? Negative feedback. Tanh functions. Wanting something.

Positive feedback people = Insatiables.

Negative feedback people = Deplorables.

In a HEALTHY organism or culture both forces are always present. The Sorosian side of the world is no longer healthy or survivable because the inhibitory side has been eliminated and outlawed.

Natural Law is explicitly about strengthening NF and suppressing PF. Sharia does it smartly by harnessing the PF people to serve the NF people and vice versa.

The Parkinsonian agency or NGO, the 'War On', is the classic excitatory input, self-generating positive feedback. Make a problem, justify more budget, use more budget to make more problems.

What's the opposite, the inhibitory side?

The opposite of WarOn is SELF-DEFENSE at all levels, physical and commercial and informational. SELF-DEFENSE is the organizational equivalent of inhibitory synapses and negative feedback.

A charter for self-defense would include these items:

1. You should be free to own and use physical weapons and walls to defend your PROPERTY and BODY against ordinary criminals.

2. You should be free to own and use cyberweapons and cyberwalls and pre-Disney copyrights to defend your INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY from thieves and monopolies and governments.

3. You should be able to defend your CAPITAL and BUSINESS against monopolies and hostile takeovers and aggressive lawsuits and arbitrary confiscation.

4. You should be able to defend your SKILL against skill-thieves like schools and universities and innovative disrupters like Uber.

5. Cities should be able to defend their SOVEREIGNTY against black-robed demons, and to defend their people against forcible invasions of migrants and criminals by higher levels of government.

6. Governments and common carriers should not be allowed to eliminate INFORMATION needed for self-defense.

= = = = =

Only (1) corresponds to a currently active law. The others would be new.

I've been discussing (2) through (5) for years. I haven't gotten to (6) until just now.

(6) is needed to protect leakers like Wikileaks and soros.dcleaks.com. The latter has already been silenced. (6) would also protect policemen or writers who attempt to WARN their local populations about migrant invasions and unsafe areas. This is a big problem in EU, and I'm sure it will be coming to USA STRONG in the next few milliseconds. Evil accelerates exponentially when Soros is in control.

= = = = =

**Semantic sidenote: It's revealing that Insatiables OFTEN use the word negative when describing Deplorables. Insatiables see Deps as antimatter, Negative Externalities, obstacles to the infinite infinite infinite power that is the natural possession of the Insatiable.

= = = = = END REPRINT.

Now I need to expand item 1:

1. You should be free to own and use physical weapons and walls, and use your own mental and physical immunity, to defend your PROPERTY and BODY and SOUL against criminals and governments.

Obviously the Public Death Agencies are Parkinsonian WarOns. Everything they do is designed to eliminate normal immunity and require MORE of the WarOn, MORE lockdowns and masks and Security Theater.

  Sidereal sharia

Since this holocaust started, my dream scripter has been trying to preserve a separate mental space, which is a proper mental immune response to epidemics of insanity and evil. Often the dreams are obvious attempts to maintain CONFIDENCE in the face of the CONFIDENCE-SMASHING psychopaths.

Tonight's dream had the same confident tone, but the subject matter was unusual. It linked the 'Be Your Own Beacon' theme (stick with observed Nature no matter which team agrees with it) to Sharia Law.

Neither of those topics had ever appeared in a dream before.

The historical linkage of beacons and Islam is easy, and I've been thinking about it and writing about it already. Every advanced culture has used astronomy for religious purposes. Early Islam made a special point of this linkage, as seen in the Ridhwan clock.

The dream made the connection on a more personal level, avoiding a fake 'team' that was supposedly on the same side as Sharia. This temptation hasn't actually come up in real life, so I doubt that it's a literal warning; it's just a personal-level metaphor.

  Mental immunity complete.

Encouraging signs of MENTAL immunity. Spokane News features the almost-daily Holocaust Meter issued by the Public Death Department. Before suicide ballgags were REQUIRED, there were still a few Karens wishing for even more holocaust. After the ballgags were required, exactly ZERO Karens. All comments show a fully developed MENTAL immune response to the grotesque holocausters in charge of the state and city.

Everyone knows now that the whole mess has NOTHING to do with microscopic pathogens, and EVERYTHING to do with the perverted pleasures of violent toxic giant psychopathogens.

Of course sanity has zero effect, because normal sane humans don't have unions or Mutual Benefit Associations or gangs to provide massive counterforce and counterblackmail. Still, it's good to know that everyone who reads the Holocaust Meter is fully and powerfully sane now.

  Reprint about humiliation

Trying to parse out why Euro countries are returning to sanity while US/UK are stuck in maximum holocaust mode.

This item from 2017 is vaguely parallel and may lead to better parallels. Grammar is a tool of humiliation and subjugation, and a countertool for sane people.

= = = = = START REPRINT:

Yesterday I was thinking about language as a genome, and I was thinking about early cyberwar.

Those two questions modulated in my raggedy non-linear mind, emitting a new question as one sideband.

Question: Has anyone ever modified a genome as a form of war?

Again the biological side is easy. That's exactly what viruses do.

Again the linguistic side is hard, but history offers some possible examples. As abovementioned, when simple-noun people mix with complex-noun people, simple nouns win. When article-at-end people mix with separate-article people, article-at-end wins. Verbs seem to be immune to this type of horizontal gene transfer.

We know this type of modification occurs. Was it intentional? Did the Latin people mock and punish the native noun cases, essentially forcing the Teutons and Slavs to adopt Latin ways? An underclass that imitates the masters badly is even weaker and more Deplorable than an underclass confidently and comfortably using its own language and culture. Humiliation is a primary** goal for masters.

Modern invaders are trying to alter the grammar of their victims. Sorosians are using social force and legal force to remove the gender division of pronouns in English, and simultaneously trying to implant temporarily created and individually chosen pronouns for gender categories that don't exist. The latter effort fits the 'imitate badly' goal. There's no way a normal person can keep up with the daily changes of 'my pronouns', so the imitation will always be unsure and humiliating.

So far the latter effort is canceling out the former. There's no way to adapt the deep categories of language to the momentary whims of delusional people. If the Sorosians would give up the Trans nonsense, they'd have a better chance of wiping out the gender distinction.

This change won't work in any language except English, because all other Euro languages have grammatical gender that affects all nouns and doesn't correlate with actual human gender. Only English has purely semantic gender that correlates exactly with biological gender.

Again it's fortunate that the Sorosians don't understand this basic point.

** Exception to this rule: Stalin, a master of subjugation, didn't use this form of humiliation. He took pains to preserve and strengthen the languages and cultures of various indigenous groups within the Empire. Orwell, echoing Stalin, also skipped this form. The proles were not expected to imitate the clothing and manners of the Inner Party; they were left free to maintain their own Cockney ways. Maybe Stalin wasn't a champion subjugator after all. Maybe he understood that strong government is more energy-efficient when the people feel respected.

  How fast does thought travel?

While looking for more ancient stuff to animate, found an interesting 1915 book of questions and factoids. The Book of Wonders is something like Ripley or Hix, but more oriented toward serious descriptions of how things work and how people do their jobs.

Some of the questions are predictable, but some are astonishingly original.

At What Rate Does Thought Travel?
Thought travels 111 feet per second, or about a mile and a quarter per minute. Elaborate experiments have been made by Professors Helmholtz, Hersch, and Donders, to ascertain the facts on this question, the result of which was that they found the process of thought varied in rapidity in different individuals, children and old persons thinking more slowly than people of middle age, and ignorant people more slowly than the educated.
Well, this is clearly dealing with axon signal speed, not thought as such. It also shows a standard academic prejudice. "Ignorant people" don't take longer to answer a question because they're dumb. They take longer because they have to think about it. They have to process the answer in CPU. "The educated" have quick answers to most questions stored in lookup-table form. The same distinction applies to children vs oldsters vs middle age. Middle age is a time of certainty when you "know" everything. Children haven't built the lookup tables, and oldsters have learned that the lookup tables are crap. Thought takes longer when you think.

= = = = =

Now a brand-new piece of research has come up with a stunning new answer to the question.

At What Rate Does Thought Travel?

As fast as necessary to maintain EQUIPOISE.

= = = = =

Via PNAS, a study by Noori et al in Toronto. The headline says it all:

Activity-dependent myelination: A glial mechanism of oscillatory self-organization in large-scale brain networks

My summary:

Signals travel along axons at widely varying rates, constantly adjusted to keep the two ends of the path synced up with other paths that are involved in the same resonance. EQUIPOISE, a balanced resonance, is the invariant goal. Glial cells constantly monitor the signal paths along axons, modifying the myelin to slow or speed one path as needed. If one path changes due to damage or revision, the glial cells go to work again to get the bounces along this path sync'd with the other paths involved in this thought.

THIS IS AMAZING.

Is this closer to the Book Of Wonders answer, or closer to the idiotic statistical non-answer at MindMatters? Closer to the Book Of Wonders, which is talking about speed instead of time-free "available choices".

= = = = =

Here's my attempt to animate the idea, since the original article doesn't include an animation.

We're looking at two axonal paths between a pair of brain nuclei. Thought waves bounce back and forth between the nuclei at a speed which is CONTROLLED TO SYNC THE RESONANCE. Happystar appropriately represents a glial traffic cop.

Now the SUPERamazing part. When a path changes because of damage or revision of the pattern, the glial cops change the speed yet again to keep the resonance in sync.

Moral of the story:

LIFE IS PURPOSE.

Life always manages to restore and accomplish its PURPOSES, despite all destructive efforts by microscopic pathogens and giant demonic psychopathogens.

  Karlin on mental spaces

Anatoly Karlin, in a brief piece on an obscure dispute among obscure intellectuals, brings up a large and non-obscure point that's worth remembering. I don't understand the obscure dispute. I do understand the large point:

The one saving grace of these inexplicable bouts of insanity that afflict various major civilizations across history (1917, Cultural Revolution, etc.) tend to inoculate against future ones.

He cites his earlier article about the time-capsule effect of the Soviet system. Natural Law culture remained strong in the Soviet zone, and after Stalin's death the leaders stopped trying to break Natural Law and took full advantage of the natural culture.

The time capsule was already obvious in the '80s. US feminists were trying to bring the Russians up to speed on the latest "enlightened" insanity, but the Russian women steadfastly refused. Even though all Soviet women were expected to work for pay, they insisted on maintaining traditional sex roles and traditional marriage.

More proof of mental spaces. When people are forced to function in anti-natural ways and assent to anti-natural evils, they develop a strong internal immune response. The internal preservation of Natural Law gets stronger as the external craziness increases.

  Good news about mental immunity

Some good news about public MENTAL immunity. Even in Britain, where orthodoxy has been much more rigid for several years, people are learning to preserve their lives and souls by avoiding media poison.
When the coronavirus pandemic really started to take hold in the UK in March, news consumption increased, as in many other countries. But, since then, our research shows that an increasing share of the UK population is switching off from the news.

The proportion of people who say they often or always avoid news increased from 15% in mid-April 2020 to 22% in mid-May. If we include those who say they sometimes actively avoid news, then the share reaches 59%. The vast majority of these who often or always avoid news, told us that they actively avoid news about coronavirus (87%).
Excellent. The survey was done by YouGov, a nominally neutral polling service. It's not a huge increase, but it's meaningful.

We have natural immune systems against physical microbes AND information microbes. We may not always know WHY media is poison, but we know for sure that it IS poison.

Hormesis works in both realms. We need to have an initial encounter with the pathogen to build up immunity against the specific shape and form of the microbe. After the initial encounter (the initial increase in news consumption) we are able to battle the pathogen in various ways. We avoid things that look and taste like the poison, or we fight it internally using T-cells or mental spaces.

Hugely important study on new neurons

A new study that adds to the Del Giudice notion of dreams as protectors and defenders.
Researchers from University of Tsukuba and the University of Tokyo have revealed that adult-born neurons (ABNs) in the hippocampus, which is a brain region associated with memory, are responsible for memory consolidation during REM sleep.

To do this, the researchers exposed mice to a context-specific fear memory task. Then, they recorded activity in specific ABNs across the learning, consolidation, and retrieval stages of memory.

"We found that young ABNs that were most active during REM sleep after the memory task were most likely to have been active during learning," explains Professor Masashi Yanagisawa, the other senior author of the study. "Further, when we then examined the effects of optogenetic silencing on young ABN activity during sleep, we found that the consolidation of contextual fear memories was impaired."

Their data represent causal evidence that activity in young ABNs during REM sleep is necessary for memory consolidation.
Dreams literally build the brain.

Exercise, especially rhythmic exercise like walking, also builds new neurons.

Just as the immune system in bone marrow builds T-cells to fight physical pathogens, dreams and walking build new neurons that aren't contaminated by mental pathogens.

Torturers (governors and mayors and presidents and "public" "health" officials) UNDERSTAND this point, which is exactly why they disrupt and shorten our sleep and prevent us from walking and exercising. Torturers can't allow their victims to build defenses against the injected emotions and commands.

  Back to Del Giudice's idea

Denyse at MindMatters cites a growing realization in the AI side of neurology.
Functional MRI measures blood flow as a proxy for brain activity. It shows where blood is being sent in the brain, presumably because neurons in that area are more active during a mental task.

The problem is that the level of activity for any given person probably won’t be the same twice, and a measure that changes every time it is collected cannot be applied to predict anyone’s future mental health or behavior.
Denyse summarizes:

Maybe we have got it backwards. Our minds read things but it doesn’t follow that we can read our minds. We can’t even read brains. Which is not even the same thing.

Yup. In fact we can't even read our OWN minds accurately from inside our OWN heads. This is hardly new. Freud understood the point, tried to systematize the distinction between various mental spaces, tried to use it for therapy. He failed. His followers are good cult leaders and money-makers but they don't cure or even help actual patients. They always make things worse to keep the patients addicted to treatment or drugs.

This failure should have been a warning sign. Now some neuroscientists are seeing the same warning again, but I'm sure the "profession" will still roar ahead at full speed, forming cults and training torturers and getting billion-dollar grants.

And here's where Del Giudice's brilliant observation comes in. The brain generates separate minds as a defense against pathogens.

Some viruses (eg chickenpox and polio) leave sleeper agents in the nervous system, waiting for opportunities to pounce, constantly monitoring emotional states for a susceptible moment. They know that our immune defenses are down when we're panicked and frantic and sleepless and weary. TIME TO STRIKE!

During the billion-year war with viruses, our nervous systems have developed all kinds of countermeasures, including cloak and dagger techniques like separate awarenesses.

Giant psychopath-ogens like presidents and governors and "public" "health" officials do exactly the same as microscopic pathogens. They get into our nervous system via TV and iPhones, and then they wait for opportunities to take over the entire body. They have an advantage over chickenpox, because the direct mental injections of TV and iPhones allow them to CONTROL the emotional state.

Our nervous system can fool both sizes of pathogen by developing separate awarenesses, complete defensible spaces fortified with language and logic. The first wall of defense, of course, is to disconnect the direct injectors as much as possible.

  Speaking of inversions....

Speaking of inversions, the scariest inversion of all is the perfect reversal of EXPERIMENT.

Heitmann tells us that the leader of Thuringia, Bodo Ramelow, has ordered an immediate end to ALL ASPECTS of the holocaustal EXPERIMENT.

BRAVO! for the first OFFICIAL restoration.

Heitmann cites an article in DW with the genocidally predictable headline:

Thuringia: Germany's coronavirus guinea pigs?

This is a perfectly consistent pattern. Every attempt to maintain or restore A BILLION YEARS OF NORMAL HUMAN LIFE AND SURVIVAL is treated as an impossibly risky EXPERIMENT, while the brand-new demonic idea that holocausts cure disease, less than six months old, is treated as the permanent default, the way it's always been.

Sweden's continuation of NORMAL PUBLIC HEALTH is always described as a Mad Scientist's Crackpot Experiment, while the ovens and concentration camps everywhere else are just ordinary life, not requiring any special explanation.

The original witch hunters developed this satanic trick.

When Harding tried to break out of Wilson's brand-new tyranny in 1920, he used words properly and described reality accurately, not inversely.

America's present need is not heroics, but healing; not nostrums, but normalcy; not revolution, but restoration; not agitation, but adjustment; not surgery, but serenity; not the dramatic, but the dispassionate; not experiment, but equipoise; not submergence in internationality but sustainment in triumphant nationality. It's one thing to battle successfully against the world's domination by a military autocracy because the infinite God never intended such a program; but it's quite another thing to revise human nature and suspend the fundamental laws of life and all of life's requirements.
We need to maintain the same firmness, preserving logic and facts and SCIENCE and LIFE against the onslaught of the Lockdown Virus.
