Yesterday I was bored and restless, needed something new and interesting to grab my attention at bedtime. Started looking through archive.org for potentially worthy radio shows. Aha! Here's one I've never heard before. Inspector Thorne. Aired in 1951 on NBC prime time, so it had a good budget and access to good actors. The episode titles seemed promising.

GAAAAKKKKK! It's the worst thing I've ever heard. The budget bought music from a real orchestra, but the writing and acting are worse than any high-school drama class.

Most of my listening is low-budget syndicated serials, with no music and simple sound effects. All of them are written and acted COMPETENTLY, with frequent moments of brilliant insight and empathy. Inspector Thorne doesn't even have occasional moments of semi-competence.

Was it a parody, like Vic & Sade? Could be, but I didn't hear any indications of non-seriousness. According to Radio GOLDINdex, the show was a summer fill-in, lasting only 11 episodes and never acquiring a sponsor.

Convective thought while walking:

I've been thinking about the idiotic Github Syndrome a lot, and I've been studying 1880 computing systems while "making" digital models of old railroad stuff.

The two collided.

The non-Sorosian side of the world, the god side, is mainly focused on saving and making, while the Sorosian side, Satan's side, is virulently focused on debt and breaking. Smashing dams, obliterating countries, turning order to chaos.

Does the god side suffer from Github Syndrome? Turns out to be an easy question. What are China and Russia MAKING as part of the Silk Road? Are they making new 999 Terabyte web cables? No. Are they making airports? No. Spaceports? No. Elonian Hyperloops? Fuck no.

They're building RAILROADS and ROADS and PIPELINES.

All old tech. All well-tested tech, with experience and debug times ranging from 6K years for roads to 2K years for pipelines to 200 years for railroads.

More to the point, they're setting up a system to carry REAL PHYSICAL MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS, a system for MAKERS, while the Github side is concentrating on 999 Terabyte web cables to carry false and criminal "information", a system for TAKERS.

Who uses 999 TB web cables? NSA and NYSE. Spies and stock traders. Destroyers of souls, killers of industries, obliterators of the universe, genocidal demons.

When Rick Perry stayed in the Trump admin after it was PERFECTLY CLEAR that Trump was Hillary, he sold his soul. Now he's moved to the Champion Salesman level in the Satan MLM cult:

The Weather Bureau has an interesting animation of the latest hurricane. Instead of holding the map still and showing the cyclone moving across the map, this graphic stays with the cyclone and moves the map under it. In modern terms, a GoPro view.

I've never seen an empathetic animation of a weather system. It's always been possible, but nobody used it.

Proper science, Carverian science, starts with making a NEW observation of reality. There aren't any new things on Earth, so we have to achieve NEWness by looking at the old things from different mental angles.

Recent major discoveries in biology happened because the lookers decided to remove their Theory Goggles. Theory tells you that bacteria CAN'T POSSIBLY live in volcanic vents or the stratosphere, so you don't look. Theory tells you that animals can't be thawed, so you don't try. Theory tells you that genes are permanent, so you toss out the part of the genome that looks wiggly.

This is a new angle on weather. Will it lead to better understanding? Only if the meteorologists remove their Carbon Goggles.

Leaving aside the irresistible sarcasm, the invention can't work on its own terms. After the elevator gets the car to the lower shaft, and after the car drives over to the main tunnel, how do you put the autonomous skates UNDER the car? How do you turn the car 90 degrees and merge it SIDEWAYS into the fast-moving traffic in the tunnel with no on-ramp? What happens if just ONE of the autonomous skates runs out of battery power? The whole system freezes up with people in the cars. I'm passionate around the Asphyxiating Gridlock Space! Wow!

In the bad old days when innovation required permission, a patent lawyer would have asked these questions immediately, and would have gently told the presumably 10-year-old inventor to keep trying and learn something about mechanisms. Now we're past those bad old days. We're back in the Disruptive 1300s when the only question was WHO. If the invention was scrawled by the inbred infantile insane King, the entire budget of the Kingdom would be devoted to building it, even though it couldn't possibly work. Strether at NakedCapitalism goes along with the "global warming" racket but on other issues he's sensible and insightful. He worked in manufacturing for a long time and understands the basic difference between making THINGS and making DEBT. Here's an important insight:

The software industry was developed with lots of government funding but NO regulation. Silicon Valley was never constrained by the need to serve real people or save lives, so it ruins real people and ends lives.

I've been noticing this distinction for a long time, with special focus when studying older industries to "make" digital models. Telegraph and telephone and railroads and radio were regulated and semi-nationalized early on, so they became RELIABLE and CONSTRAINED servants of the public welfare. All are common carriers, all need to own large amounts of property, all need to intrude into houses and businesses in various ways. The ownership and intrusion have been strictly regulated from the start.

The Web also needs to own large amounts of property and intrude. Because it's unregulated, its ownership and intrusion are EXTREME and CRIMINAL.

Web-related companies think and act like Mafias. Everything yields to the need for endless updates, constantly creating MORE bugs and MORE confusion and LESS security, and wasting 90% of the computer's time. The Github mentality is identical to the mobster who hits businesses with a weekly price increase and rule change if they want to maintain protection. "Yeah, $100 was okay last week, but now it's $150 and you have to sell meth for us."

When software intrudes into industries that actually save lives, like hospitals, the result is deadly. Unregulated UI/UX confuses doctors and wastes their time, leading to errors that wouldn't have occurred with paper and dictaphones. The software itself makes errors in judgment that can't be traced.

  Real undertakers do it better
Via ZH: A cryogenics firm is being sued by the family of one client after they mistakenly cremated the body instead of freezing it.

ZH probably intended this as semi-humorous clickbait. Everyone "knows" cryogenics is pointless because there's no chance of thawing back to life.

Common knowledge was valid until a few months ago, when Russian scientists SUCCESSFULLY thawed out some nematodes that had been frozen for thousands of years. Nematodes don't switch to antifreeze mode, so this was genuine reanimation of an animal that wasn't designed to be frozen. This opens a previously closed door.

Aside from the changed context, the mistake is unforgivable anyway. The cryogenics firm was keeping 159 bodies. That's not mass production, it's a quantity that can be handled and inspected CLOSELY AND CAREFULLY without a lot of bureaucracy.

Ordinary funeral homes do a much better job of storing and organizing remains.

The absolute total depravity has been constant for at least 1000 years. This particular vice has been a publicly known part of the depravity package for at least 700 years. The "reform" game has been going on since the start. Every 20 years the Church calls up a council to "deal with" the total depravity of its monstrous hierarchy, and every 20 years it stays the same. No reason to expect any difference this time.

Read Henry Lea's 1877 book. Especially the last chapter around page 600. It's all tiresomely familiar.

Later thought: There's an important difference between the Deepstate of an empire and the Deepstate of a church. An ordinary citizen can't do anything about the empire. Entire countries can leave the empire, but a citizen in USA has exactly zero power. With a church the situation is reversed. Ordinary people have ALL the power against an evil church. Just LEAVE.   Reconversion
Noticed an unusual and FAST renovation today.

An attached garage on a '50s house had been converted to a room LONG ago, probably soon after the house was built. The front wall was properly wall-like, not an obvious fill panel.

There was no sign of pending construction on Monday. I didn't walk past the house on Tuesday. Today, Wednesday, the garage is a garage again! Looks like it was always a garage.

Structurally the speed makes sense... the wall was designed to hold an overhead door, so the lower part wasn't bearing any load. Removing it wouldn't require any 'engineering'. Just Sawzall + skill.

Culturally it's UNIQUE. I've never seen a conversion in this direction. In Spokane NOBODY uses a garage for cars. They fill the garage with stuff then build a carport in front to hold the car then fill the carport with stuff then build a carportport in front then [loop]

  Another retrofitted dream script
Dreamed that Walter Mondale had returned from the dead and was running for President again. He was campaigning only in laundromats. His agenda relied on one magic word which would solve all problems. The word was MNAIT, pronounced like m'night.

WTF?

Oh. This was another of those scenes developed by the dream scripter from bits and pieces of my OTR playlist. In this case I was hearing an episode of 'Strange as it Seems' dealing with a contrived coincidence. Three separate shipwrecks, all on the same date in different centuries, all had exactly one survivor. Each of the survivors was named Hugh Williams. Not much of a coincidence, but Hix turned it into a good story.

Where were the shipwrecks? In Menai Strait, near Bangor in Wales.

I have no idea where Mondale and the laundromats came from, but clearly the dream scripter was retrofitting its own interesting narrative to the one salient word. Even though I've heard the episode hundreds of times during non-dream sleep and dozens of times in wakeness, the dream scripter rejected the THOROUGHLY FAMILIAR connections of the word and resolutely invented its own set of connections.

Mondale returning from the dead makes more sense than the facts of USA politics. All the existing candidates in "both" "parties" are 900-year-old zombies staggering around and emitting incoherent screeches.

This pattern is UNIVERSAL in the Sorosian lands.

  Bluffs
Starting with the scenes I like to build.

Notice the common shape? TANH in the real world vs EXP in the fake world.

I hadn't made the connection until now.

There are two physical reasons for the dominance of tanh hills in the scenes. First, the historically genuine scenes are genuinely set against a bluff. Cave Gas is IN a bluff. Many of my 'lost places' are in eastern Kansas, which is a bluffy place. Second, I want these scenes to be USED by real artists, so I try to make them self-contained and efficient. A hill for a backdrop is 'cheaper' in terms of rendering than a lot of trees and background buildings.

Bluffs and hillsides have a real-life connection to Insatiables vs Deplorables. As I detailed here, rising status goes with rising altitude. Ever since the days of aristocratic castles, Insatiables want to be in a commanding position where they can survey their land and slaves.

On the world scale, you can envision Sorosia in tanh-status terms.



USA STRONG occupies the aristocrat ground. The bear occupies the peasant ground.

In between the two plateaus is an eroded area of tricky terrain, similar to the eroded band that includes eastern Kansas.

USA STRONG believes that everyone wants to be on the high ground with him. An Insatiable always believes that everyone wants to be Just Like Him. Why wouldn't they aspire to My Godlike Perfection? Why wouldn't they want to bask in My Holy Radiance? Why wouldn't they want to live on infinite debt and zero savings? Works beautifully for me! I believe that My Infinite Wealth must always increase exponentially, and the only way to do that is with Infinite Debt.

USA STRONG's radiance is actually gamma rays. The countries that share the high ground are getting sick, and finally realizing that USA STRONG is a crazy omnicidal mass killer.

Down on the low ground, the bear doesn't have to do a lot of advertising. Just continue with a low-side tanh way of living. No aggression, limit the power of monopolies, gold standard instead of infinite debt, preserve Natural Law culture. Make things.

Many countries have already slid down the bluff to the Natural Law plateau. Italy is the most recent arrival. At the moment Turkey, Germany and Holland are somewhere in the crevices of the eroded zone. They can't quite imagine a life away from His Holy Radiance, but the Migrant Rays are making them sicker by the day, and they need to get away from the line-of-sight radiation.

  Weak points
Again continuing the split Sorosia theme...

One issue that splits Deepstate is 'machine learning' or AI. There are major Deepstaters on both sides. Some are actively developing it, some are loudly opposing it. Elon, of course, is doing both at once.

I think opposition is more natural for Deepstaters, and active development is just commercial careerism. Let's see if I can show how this works.

1. Machine learning is NOT NEW. Long before the computer age, there were mechanical and electronic systems that adjusted their own way of responding as a result of 'remembered' experience.

Start from the start with the PRIMORDIAL technology, cooking fires. A fire behaves differently after the ashes have piled up for days or weeks, and cooks have learned to use this altered behavior for different types of cooking.

Mechanical examples are more subtle but common. In cars, self-adjusting brakes and hydraulic valve lifters change their limit points automatically as the surfaces wear down. Both of these mechanisms are 80 years old. In electronics, volume leveling and noise canceling circuits adjust the current response based on a 'memory' of the last 5 or 10 seconds. Fairly complex, but again 80 years old, well before the era of software.

2. Deepstate HATES experience more than anything in the world. Mechanisms and people who adjust their behavior based on memory and experience are ADAPTABLE, thus UNSTEADY. The only way to achieve ABSOLUTE BRITTLE RIGID STEADY DEATH is by following an abstract THEORY. A theory never changes.

3. Deepstate squashes all invocations of experience with CITE YOUR DOCUMENTATION. This happens all the time in web comboxes and academia. Any attempt to bring PERSONAL OBSERVATION into a discussion is met with the CITE weapon. Only PERMANENT UNCHANGING WRITTEN AUTHORITATIVE THEORY is acceptable.

4. Deepstate hates experiential education because learning from reality, using your hands and senses, enables you to DETECT a false theory. When your hands and eyes are in direct contact with a frog or a circuit or a bridge, you can't be fooled by written nonsense.

5. Deepstate loves statistics and hates phase and wave charts. Statistics are timeless by definition. When you reduce a situation to mean and variance, you have explicitly STRANGLED THE LIFE out of the situation.

6. Deepstate is always surprised by changes that can be predicted easily by an intelligent experience-based mind. Deepstaters don't understand saturation or cycles or the entire fucking nervous system. When a natural phenomenon or a human behavior runs in cycles or adapts to a baseline, Deepstate can't comprehend what's going on, and has to blame it on a mysterious spiritual force like witches or CO2 or "randomness" or RUSSIAN_MEDDLING.

All of these tendencies are WEAK POINTS in Deepstate thinking. All could be EXPLOITED by the feedback-guided and experience-guided side. We ought to be taking advantage of this weakness.

Later footnote: A reader could rationally infer from this item that I'm supporting 'killer robots' and 'intelligent drones'. I'm not. First: I'm just saying that 'killer robots' are nothing new or special, not any worse than plain old dumb weapons and soldiers. War is war, and war is bad. Second: As a long-time programmer with some experience in this type of work AND some knowledge of neurology, I know that AI is overrated. It can't do the things that its techie supporters claim. Overall, we should be worrying about the basic question of war versus peace, not worrying about specific ways of making war.

In short: Why does Deepstate fear AI-powered weapons? Because any intelligence that gathers EXPERIENTIAL DATA on its own will conclude that war is bad. Bad for everyone and everything, including the nation that built the weapon. All experience in human history agrees 100% with this conclusion. If the weapon wants to serve its maker, it will shut down and do nothing.

The only way to build a loyal war-loving robot is to preprogram it with a THEORY (eg "spreading democracy"), and restrict its inputs and logic to precoded data.

  The amazing thing
Carrying on the split Sorosia thought...

The amazing thing is that populists in Sorosian lands have managed to put together the facts and logic for ourselves, with NO help from ANY modern "opinion sources". I try to watch foreign leaders like Putin and Orban and Salvini, and I look back at FDR and Jennings Bryan and Graybill. But most populists are processing the facts and reaching the correct conclusions independently, BASED ON THEIR OWN OBSERVATION AND EXPERIENCE, without reading those temporospatially distant sources.

The "leftist" media like NakedCapitalism and CommonDreams are pluponents. While pretending to critique bankism and debtism, they actually propose more abstraction and more debt. They don't even pretend to critique the cultural side of Soros. They're firmly on board with open borders, variable gender, environmental lunacy, the whole bit.

The "libertarian" media like Reason aren't exactly pluponents, but their alternative is no improvement. They have one thing unquestionably right: Central banks are evil. But at the same time they FEROCIOUSLY defend the tech branches of Deepstate like Amazon and Google. They oppose the forceful imposition of anti-Natural Law culture, but at the same time they FAVOR the anti-Natural Law culture itself, and FEROCIOUSLY support open borders and offshoring.

The media from Russia, supposedly solid enemies of OUR PRECIOUS SOROSIAN FREEDOMS, are nearly identical to CNN and MSNBC. The only difference between RT and CNN is the issue of Russia itself. RT agrees that Christianity is bad, "global warming" is real, migrants are good, prisons should be torn down, cops are bad, bitcoin is good, etc.

RT is normal. After all, the job of a national propaganda outlet is to weaken the enemy. What ISN'T normal is the role of CNN, NYT, FOX, etc. In a normal world they would be STRENGTHENING America by assisting Christianity, breaking up monopolies, and avoiding wars.

But even during his scampaign, most of his message was standard Repooflican. And since the election he has given Deepstate most of what it wants. More war, more debt, higher Dow, less tax, less jobs. Deepstate continues to bash the fake holograph of "Populist Trump", making him attractive to rebels, continuing the Pied Piper role.

I was sort of hoping for an Italy-like overturn in Sweden, but I'm not hugely surprised at the moderate gain for populists. Sweden isn't ripe for an overturn.

Constant: Soros. Variable: Which SIDE of Soros is dominant.

Sweden has totally surrendered to the Sorosians culturally but hasn't surrendered economically. Its heavy industries are still going strong, very little offshoring. Ordinary Swedes may be disgusted by the migrants and variable-gender ratshit, but they still have useful and high-paid jobs.

Italy went crazy the other way. Italy maintained its culture pretty firmly but allowed the bankers and Krauts to snatch away its industries. Ordinary men are poor and useless, especially in the North.

NYTimes demon has written some "clarifications" on its bizarre op-ed from a neocon eunuch.

The last line of the "clarification" indicates the main purpose is to rename Deepstate to Steadystate.

Glad to oblige!!! Without even knowing it, the eunuch has DEFINED THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY.

As I've been pointing out forever, Steadystate is bad PRECISELY BECAUSE IT'S UNCHANGING AND NON-ADAPTABLE. Steady is another name for dead.

Making a subject unthinkable has real costs. This article in ArseTechnica is surprisingly not-quite-totally-insane, considering the source. It summarizes a TOTALLY INSANE SCREEEEEEEEECH written by demons at MIT, which grudgingly reaches the conclusion that more nuclear power is needed to propitiate Gaia's revenge for TRUMP HITLER KKK ALT-RIGHT NAZI HITLER TRUMP.

Despite the 1% sanity in the Arse article, it still shows a self-destructive blind spot. It assumes that the Soros world is the ONLY world. Nuclear power is no longer being built in Sorosia, THEREFORE it's no longer built anywhere in the world.

IN FACT both Russia and China are building LOTS of new nuke plants, in their own countries and even in Euro countries and Saudi. Economics and technology** are NOT the problem, as Arse and MIT assume. Only our own suicidal hyperlunacy is OUR problem.

This is the exact equivalent of a neurological defect called hemispatial neglect, which often arises after a stroke. The patient simply doesn't know that one side of the world exists. I was trying to untangle the electromechanical logic of this mechanism, with some help from the descriptive text.



Suddenly I noticed a MUCH more interesting aspect of the diagram. The wooden beams are shown as wood, not just gray or crosshatch; even more, the draftsman went to the trouble of giving each beam an individual personality. Each is from a different section of a tree, with different grain patterns and different imperfections. A lumber expert could tell which type of sawing had produced each beam, just as a butcher could distinguish cuts of meat by their grain and fat patterns.

That's ART.

This is PLENTY of space for one person in a dorm or boarding-house situation with common bathrooms and eating facilities. It could even be a complete residence.

The problem with all of these architect-designed tiny spaces is plain old PROPORTION. Mobile homes and RVs make excellent use of small spaces with built-in furniture and SMALL furniture. Small stoves, small sinks, small beds, foldable tables. This room violates the principle. Nothing is built-in, nothing is foldable, nothing is COMPACT. Giant bulgy bed, 3000 square foot 11008800 HHHHDDD TV that you can't even fucking SEE from the available distance. No storage, no kitchenette, no dresser, no table and chair.

Secondly, the walls are glossy and dark, making it impossible to achieve comfortable lighting. Ordinary walls and ceilings are off-white with matte rough surfaces, providing broad diffuse light from a small bulb. Dark walls absorb an amazing amount of light, requiring superbright bulbs to get usable illumination; and glossy walls act like mirrors, reflecting the bulb itself without diffusing.

Following on this....

Another fantastically complex yet common computing system used in railroads 150 years ago.

The staff system began in England with wooden staffs, clearly inspired by the tally sticks that had been used for accounting. Each staff was a rod "like a policeman's truncheon", and the staffs for various sections of the line were marked and notched in specific ways. Some of them had a key built into the end to unlock a box containing a receipt. A train entering a section picked up the correct staff, and had to hand it back to a dispatcher at the end of the section. The purpose was to insure that each section was occupied by only one train at a time, and to insure that each train reaching the endpoint had been authorized to enter. (Hadn't slipped in from a siding.)

Later versions used metal staffs with mechanical interlocks:

Checking my biases: In 60 years of electronic activity, I'd never encountered any of these mechanisms. Was I just blind to railroad stuff? Ignoring it because it wasn't interesting? Using the search button at American Radio History, the answer is no. Railroads are rarely mentioned. Even in the earlier periodicals when rail was the dominant transportation, there's not much material. Even as the signaling systems became specifically electronic, with tube circuits replacing magnetic circuits, there was no attention in the 'outer world' of electronics. A few railroad items appeared in the '40s when the Morse-style signals began to be replaced by two-way radio systems, but that's no longer peculiar to railroads. It was just a new application of a system already developed for police and taxi use.

A large group of hospitals, along with the VA, are putting together a NON-PROFIT and NON-SHARE-BASED pharmaceutical company to make generic drugs at affordable prices. The effort seems to have been sparked by Shkreli and Valeant's murderous pricejacking.

This isn't quite as good as true Soviet state-controlled capital, but the purpose is the same and the function should be similar.

Now this is INTERESTING. Astronomy is one area of science that I don't follow much, partly because it no longer deals in THINGS THAT ARE HERE. These are THINGS THAT DO NOT EXIST AND CANNOT EXIST.

For once we have a public news-making item about a truly fascinating THING THAT IS HERE.

Above Saturn’s north pole, clouds swirl in a distinct and stunning hexagonal shape. Discovered by NASA’s Voyager mission in 1981, Saturn’s hexagon is striking to behold, and one new study suggests that this six-sided vortex may actually be hundreds of kilometers tall.

Now, as part of a new study using Cassini data, researchers have discovered, for the first time, a high-altitude vortex forming at Saturn’s north pole. This vortex was spotted as the planet’s northern hemisphere approached summertime. And it has a hexagonal shape like the famous hexagon originally discovered closer to the planet’s surface. These findings suggest that the high-altitude vortex may be influenced by the low-altitude vortex, potentially forming an immense, tall tower, according to a statement.

The video is indeed stunning. The center is a familiar vortex, like a tornado or hurricane, but it forms a stable and semi-permanent hexagon outside the center. Nothing in Earth weather forms simple polygons.

Famous? Might be famous among academics, but it's NOT famous to outsiders. It should be!

Maybe you'd get more public support if you'd focus more on THINGS THAT ARE HERE and less on the bizarre monstrous fantasies in your own "heads" or whatever you have in place of heads.

Ever wonder why flat earthers, birthers, climate change and Holocaust deniers stick to their beliefs in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary?

The article says that feedback and peer pressure are more important than evidence in sustaining beliefs. Unsurprising and unarguable.

And the lead sentence proves the point meta-ly. If you are among the media-driven fuckheads who place these four beliefs in the same category, your FALSE belief that these four things are the same is based solely on peer pressure and mutual reinforcement.

Let's look at the truth status of the four things. Each is complicated, and each is different.

1. Flat earth. Very few people seriously believe in a flat earth. Many of the people who speak for it are obviously having fun, and some are obviously APs. Among literate people in advanced countries, the real believers are probably in the hundreds. Not a group worth worrying about.

2. Birthers. There was GENUINE doubt about Obama's birth certificate. His mother was a CIA-sponsored international secular missionary, fully capable of using an official cover story. His father was unquestionably foreign. Obama refused to produce the certificate when asked. Those three FACTS are pretty good reason for doubt. The "movement" was grabbed up by Republican oppo-research specialists who stirred it up and stretched it beyond the original doubt. The whole issue is inconsequential because there is NO LAW requiring the president to be natural-born. The phrase was in an obscure and unused 1787 document bearing the title of "constitution", but we've never even tried to enforce it. George Romney was perfectly unqualified. Born in Mexico, parents and grandparents had always lived in Mexico. Pure Mexican citizen. Nobody worried about him. Monster McCain was dubious in the same degree as Obama, but nobody worried about him.

3. "Climate change" is a DISPROVED THEORY. There is NO DOUBT about this. Yes, the weather changes. Yes, the current set of changes is fairly unusual compared to the last hundred years, but NOT unusual on a longer scale. The current situation looks similar to phases of the cycle that happened thousands or millions of years ago, and those previous similar phases were NOT caused by Trump. In each of those previous phases CO2 was a trailing variable, and so far it looks like a trailing variable in the current phase. Given the FACTS about where the heat is strongest, and the FACTS about current movements of the magma in the earth's crust, the latter is a much more plausible explanation than CO2.

4. Holocaust: There's NO DOUBT that Hitler killed millions of Jews, along with millions of Catholics and Slavs and miscellaneous Deplorables. The conventional story focuses too much on the Jews because the Jews are the current story-TELLERS, but that doesn't change the FACT that Hitler killed millions of Jews.

So we have four different situations. 1 is a simple truth opposed by a handful of people who don't matter. 2 is an official assertion that remains dubious but doesn't matter. 3 is an official LIE that is opposed by MANY fact-loving people. 4 is a simple truth opposed by a fairly large and serious group of people.

Still learning about railroad stuff while 'making' models. I wanted to do a semaphore-type signal, so I found this 1908 book on the subject.

Actual serious WOW, not sardonic Elon-wow. I'm perfectly stunned. Flabbergasted. Bamboozled. Knocked over.

There was an entire world of electrical and electronic concepts and circuits and equipment that I'd NEVER encountered before. I've been learning and teaching and doing electronics for 60 years, and recently I've been studying a lot of old books. Nothing prepared me for the complexity and creativity of railroad circuits.

Signals and switches were generally driven by currents through the tracks. This required a vast system of pulse codes. When the tracks were also carrying HV to power the train, the signals and HV had to be separated, which required a set of huge inductive bonds and reactive bonds, completely alien to inductive devices used in telephones and radios.

Even the output modes were entirely foreign. Here's a Torpedo Placer, exactly what the name says.



When a locomotive needs to be warned of upcoming hazards like fog or flood, how do you send an UNMISTAKABLE signal? You bomb the locomotive. The torpedo placer, upon receiving its appropriate pulses, shot out a cartridge onto the rail. The locomotive would then explode the cartridge, which would presumably catch the engineer's attention. Sort of like a ballistic Pez dispenser.

Heard on money-talk radio: "Drought is bullish."

Three words show why a Wall Street economy is deadly.

The problem isn't price variation. In an honest and simple market, supply and demand move prices up and down. Drought raises prices for wheat, which encourages consumers to change their habits and encourages wheat-growers to find ways and places to grow more wheat. Price goes down again. This is NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, which is another name for LIFE.

Our problem is that the TRADERS are controlling everything. They control the government and the culture. Banks see debt as bullish, and banks control everything, so we get 100% debt and 0% savings. Traders see war as bullish, so we get 100% war and 0% peace. Traders see low grain supplies as bullish, so our policies are slanted toward eliminating farmers instead of encouraging and training more farmers. Above all, increased share value is bullish, so corporations eliminate all production and employees and customers, focusing entirely on numerical manipulation of shares.

Price is now a POSITIVE feedback loop instead of a NEGATIVE feedback loop. Everything in the system responds in one direction, aimed at increasing the activity of traders and increasing share value. POSITIVE feedback is another name for DEATH.

The alternative is the Soviet system. Businesses make excess value (profit). The government takes the profit through VAT tax, and redistributes it as investment with a goal of satisfying the needs of all the people. Needs = food, housing, clothing, work. No market, no shares, no bulls, no bears. All saving, no debt. Because the government depends on VAT, it wants businesses to make a profit. All negative feedback, no positive feedback.

With a random leader, every throw is different. Sometimes you get a long streak of 7s, sometimes you can't see a pattern at all.

Trump and Duterte often say true things mixed with nonsense. Trump has said true things about bankers and tariffs, and then immediately canceled the truth with standard nonsense on the same subjects. Duterte has said true things about Rome, and now he's quoting standard boilerplate about another religion in order to buy some guns.

Elon rarely says true things, which means his randomness is less complete. He's closer to the Bezos and Juncker side. Nevertheless, his lies are generally canceled by lawyer-ordered boilerplate a few days later, so the effect is the same.

  Dubious terminology, dubious finding
This bit of mouse-based research is poorly described and dubious and unnecessary.

Headline: Concussions loosen insulation around brain cells

I thought they were talking about the brain's outer membrane, which unquestionably takes most of the force in a concussion. Nope, they're talking about myelin.

The research finds that the myelin around some axons seems to expand or loosen after a concussion, in mice, with the implication that the myelin is getting ready to be stripped off like plastic insulation.

First, myelin is the opposite of insulation. Its purpose is to speed conduction of nerve impulses from the neuron's body to the end of the axon. The metaphor of plastic-coated wires went away a long time ago. Bare axons conduct on their surface, and myelin also conducts on its surface. Neurons are prevented from 'shorting together' by glial cells, not by the myelin.

Second, I can't envision how this would happen mechanically. It might result from the inner axon swelling slightly in a generalized inflammation, then returning to normal? Other glial cells are constantly roaming the corridors of the brain, checking for degraded myelin and repairing it. So the myelin would either contract on its own or get repaired.

Third, mice aren't humans. We're similar in some ways, but mouse studies don't transfer neatly to humans. Pharmaceutical research is moving away from mouse work after realizing it's mostly a waste of money.

Fourth, we don't need an extra marginal dubious reason to avoid ANY sort of repetitive injury, whether it's bashing your head or bashing your elbows. The body can repair most injuries, but it takes time. If you keep bashing faster than healing, the damage will become permanent.

Before Big Football, it was common knowledge that boxers lost their brainpower FAST. Big Football has managed to reshape the common "knowledge" to protect the share value of Big Football, but the obvious fact hasn't changed.

One of the money-talk radio hosts said he had watched a TV feature demonstrating that your iPhone is always listening, no matter how many of its fake "switches" you turn off. He seemed to be genuinely shocked.

Idiot.

Look. It's basic logic. Every remote sensing device has to be ON ALL THE TIME, otherwise it's not serving any purpose at all. A thermometer that can be covered in snow is worthless. A rain gauge that can be covered by a leaf is useless. A security camera that can be covered by a burglar's coat is worthless.

More to the point, let's look at the original iPhone. It serves the same purpose as the modern version. It's even the same size and shape as the modern iPhone.

The iPhone 0.0 was not designed to sense human activity. It was meant to sense the activities and movements of a slightly smaller and possibly less intelligent animal.



Some people believe that the iPhone 0.0 depends on bait or food. This is false. Effective advertisers know that you don't need an attractive smell or appearance. You just need to place the iPhone directly in the path of the customer. It needs to be right in the middle of the customer's daily routines. Always there, always sensing the customer's movements.

  Nice coincidence
Just after writing the previous rant about science that obliterates vs science that preserves, with a specific focus on a museum in Brazil, I checked the daily additions in American Radio History, hoping for something to brighten my spirits.

This booklet is titled Best Radio Broadcasts of 1940. I wanted to see if my choice of best was there. Nope, it's written by New York demons, so their judgment of best is my worst. The top of their list is a special demonic presentation by the monstrous NYC globalist demon Norman Corwin, and the others are similar.

BUT: the booklet also includes an FDR speech on science. He was talking to the Pan-American Conference, part of his effort to gather Central and South America to our side. The effort didn't work, which was good for South America. Those sane countries have miraculously managed to stay OUT of the Northern Hemisphere's crazy wars, from 1918 to 2018.

The speech hits exactly the same points I was making in the previous item. In 1940 American scientists were still doing Carverian science, still examining the real world to solve real problems. FDR (or his speechwriters) didn't know what would happen just after WW2, didn't know that the globalist resurgence, helped by the abovementioned demon Corwin, would switch the poles entirely. He didn't know that USA STRONG would become the world-conquering monster.

As always, FDR's speeches look clumsy on paper, with lots of poor word choices. He was an awful writer and a great orator.

What has come about has been caused solely by those who would use, and are using, your inventions, the progress that you have been making along the lines of peace, but are using them in a wholly different cause — those who seek to dominate hundreds of millions of people in vast continental areas — those who, if successful in that aim will, we know down in our hearts, enlarge their wild dream to encompass every human being and every mile of the earth’s surface.

The great achievements of science, yes and of art, can be used to destroy as well as to create; they are only instruments by which men try to do the things that they most want to do.

  Saving vs betting yet again

6. Mysterious "dark force". Same as 4. Spending billions on a PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE BIZARRE LOONY SCHIZOPHRENIC PSYCHOTIC DELUSION WHICH CANNOT POSSIBLY EXIST.

5. Brazil's science museum burns. Why? Because nobody was willing to spend ONE MILLION on fucking sprinkler systems. Brazil's government is always messy, and it has been occupied in recent years fighting Soros-inspired rebellions. The same Sorosians who LOVE the LHC because it's a bet on total obliteration can't POSSIBLY spend money to PRESERVE AND SAVE AND STORE a hugely valuable set of PHYSICAL DATA for the future.

While looking back through the blog for something about reptiles, bumped into this short piece written in September 2008 TEN FUCKING YEARS AGO.

It appears that the Great Nation Robbery, now that it has been worked out in the form of legislation, has acquired the acronym EESA.

Uniquely appropriate, since this bit of suicidal idiocy follows the exact same philosophy as the plain ESA. In other words, it tries to break the laws of nature.

The regular Endangered Species Act tries to break the laws of nature by preventing a species from dying off. It never works and always creates great harm. Evolution is nothing more than the dying of species and the increase of other species, in each specific location. One species is fading out in this location because it's no longer making the best use of the available resources. When you try to keep this fading species alive, you're not doing it any favors; you're only preventing other species from taking its place and making better use of the resources. And at the same time you're stealing property from humans, which is the real reason for the ESA.

Same with this new Extreme Endangered Species Act. The giant reptile called Bankerosaurus Fraudulenti is dying off because he has eaten up all the available resources. If we were obeying the laws of economic nature, we would let B. Fraudulenti fade and die to leave more room for other critters, some of which may be more honest and less wildly all-consuming.

No, no, no, we can't do that. Must keep B. Fraudulenti alive, and must preserve every aspect of its weird habitat: dishonestly high house prices, forced low interest rates, impossibly high stock prices. And at the same time we must also steal property from honest people via the tax of inflation, since we'll never pay this monstrous amount in direct taxes.

We will reap what we sow. History will remember this pack of thieves and gangsters, and history will spit on their graves.

Well, my prayer was not answered. Nothing has changed. The situation is getting MASSIVELY worse, with zero hope of reversal.

I had the right diagnosis, at a time when lots of well-paid idiots didn't. The one thing I didn't have at that point was an image of the "other more honest critters." After I unplugged the TV in 2010 I was able to see a wider range of info, and realized that the Sharia system and the Soviet system are two subspecies of the same honest critter.

  To a first approximation
A crappy convective thought.

As I make these models of Box Depots and related equipment, I'm learning about the equipment. The mail crane was a remarkable font of wasted creativity. Hundreds of inventors patented improved versions, but the original version was vested and amortized in equipment cost and mail-clerk skills, so it stayed.

I chose one of the unused patents because it struck me as especially elegant, and because the patent had a nice clear schematic.



Another bit of learning: Water tanks were simple machines with no particular variation... but real variation sprang up around them, along with grass and trees. This one has a simple float-based 'flag' indicating its level, so an engineer could decide at a sufficient distance whether it was worth stopping here vs the risk of making it to the next tank. The more prosperous railroads installed automatic detectors that signaled the nearest telegraph office when the inlet pump failed or the level was too low. The telegraph office could then send a message to the appropriate train dispatcher. Morsenet of Things.

The Pennsylvania RR developed an in-flight rewatering system for its fast expresses. A quarter-mile long trough was sunk between the rails, kept filled from a nearby tank. When an engineer needed water, he dropped a scoop-pipe into the trough, and the speed forced the water up into the engine's reservoir.


Here's a tender (water tank behind loco) with the scoop in dropped position. The lever mechanism is fairly simple and obvious on the diagram. Fancier versions powered the drop from the compressed air in the air-brake system.

I'm also trying to implement my earlier decision to resume humming and singing while I work, a habit that I abandoned many years ago. As I make these models, I end up humming train-related songs. Chattanooga Choochoo, Sentimental Journey.

Here's the crappy convective thought. To a first approximation, travel songs are train songs. We don't have many popular songs about traveling in other vehicles. Early rock-n-roll gave us plenty of car songs, but they're about racing or tragic crashes. None of them are about road trips. I can only think of one song about traveling in a jet plane.

Sidenote: After writing the above, I realized that my workflow for courseware and graphics is parallel. First I get the subject matter. With courseware it comes from the book's author, who gives me an outline of what needs to be covered in this lesson, along with a few relevant figures from the book. With graphics it comes either from my own memories or from KSHS. Second I spend time studying. For both I find online articles and info, trying to understand the subject better. Third, I decide what to do. Which houses or devices or anatomical structures are inadequately shown by existing pictures and descriptions? Which can be livened up with 3d, or animated to add meaning and value? Fourth, try, revise, discard, revise ....

Here's a pretty good convective thought.

Autonomous cars are part of the same evil trend that gave us Die-Versity.

A proper understanding of nature includes the realization that PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT, and the even stronger realization that DIFFERENCES FALL INTO CATEGORIES.

Sanity means knowing what to expect. You should expect that women are better at taking care of kids. You should expect that men are better at fighting wars. You should expect trouble to happen when you drink, and you should expect lots of trouble when the bar closes.

Modern insanity destroys all EXPECTATIONS. We're not allowed to generalize about types of people and types of situations. We're not allowed to LEARN FROM EXPERIENCE. We're required to base our lives on BIZARRE DELUSIONAL THEORIES supplied by Deepstate.

New thought:

Modern insanity has ALSO broken down our expectations about the innate difference between living things and machines.

A sane relationship reserves mechanical tasks for machines. A machine can move faster and carry heavier loads than we can. We can make decisions better than a machine. So a sanely designed car should have room enough to carry a heavy load, and power enough to get out of bad situations, AND it should let us make the decisions. It should respond RELIABLY AND LINEARLY to our pull on the steering wheel and our push on the brake. It should BE A MACHINE.

Autonomous cars ATTEMPT to break through the boundaries, but in fact they just fuck up.

Software is not alive. Software is not human and never will be. Software is MECHANICAL. It will always respond the same way to the same situation, based on the constants and logic in its code. When the constants and logic are inadequate or WRONG, the response will always be WRONG. Teslas ALWAYS want to drive into long white walls. No sane human WANTS to do that, but the car won't let you express your CORRECT decision. It will insist on implementing the BAD logic in its code.

This is a violation of common sense, in the same way as expecting a man to be a wife or expecting a woman to be a football player.

Thus it's not at all surprising to find Deepstate types and Die-Versity types dominating the Tesla cultists. They're right at home in the same brand of globalist insanity. This is what you would EXPECT.

China and Russia are uncomfortable partners in the Silk Road because of the cultural contrast of debt vs saving. So far the countervectors have yielded a strong resultant, but it's an unstable balance.

China loves gambling more than life. Russia wants security and savings. Russia is firmly on the Natural Law side of the fence without any Muslim influence. (To put it mildly!)

I can only guess at the pre-Soviet origins of the culture clash. In terms of human genetic types, Russians are farmers and winter people. Chinese are traders and summer people. Farmers are locked to the land, always seeking to store up food through the winter. Traders are always on the move, always betting on the Next Big Deal.

In the Soviet era I don't need to guess. The system was designed to run without corporate and individual debt. Businesses made things and created value. The state took the excess value in the form of VAT tax, and distributed it to businesses with the goal of supplying basic needs. Useful employment is one of the basic needs.

When the Soviet era ended in both countries, China reverted to its innate casino mentality, and Russia tried to carry on its innate store-for-the-winter mentality, INTERFERED and MEDDLED by our Sorosian bets-n-debts invasion.

After our invasion was ousted, Putin has been restoring the healthy and productive parts of the Soviet system, thanks to the utter stupidity of our Sorosian sanctions.

Natural Law always wins in the end because Natural Law is the record of how winners win. Tautology.

China's way of running the Silk Road project is running into some resistance. China is using the projects to LBO small countries. Create massive debts to finance the project, then claim major assets when the country can't pay the debt.

Not surprising. The Chinese are gamblers above all. They always think in terms of bets and debts. The Chinese form of colonialism is thus based heavily on debt.

Africa is generally happy with the setup, because Chinese projects there have brought real development and real profit. Chinese commercial control is a price worth paying, COMPARED with the usual EU/US approach that brings military and cultural control with NO development.

In Asia, many of the countries who signed up for projects are now canceling.

During a visit to Beijing in August, Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said his country would shelve three China-backed projects, including a $20 billion railway.

The party of Pakistan's new prime minister, Imran Khan, has vowed more transparency amid fears about the country's ability to repay Chinese loans related to the multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The cancelers are mainly Muslim countries, where Natural Law strongly discourages debt.

Right now we're seeing a proper feedback-based adjustment process. The anti-debt countries are returning the product after a close examination revealed dangerous defects.

In the end Natural Law countries will survive, while debt-based countries will fail. The Silk Road will be established, probably in a less grandiose and more realistic form.

Natural Law is the log book of God's lab. It records the practices and goals of people who survived. If we want to survive we need to follow the same practices and goals.

EXPERIENCE WINS. THEORY KILLS.

Saving is the monetary version of experience. Debt is the monetary version of theory.

  Teleology vs epistemology again
The latest Roman "scandals" are another classic pile of BAD EPISTEMOLOGY. Everyone is arguing about who knew what when, and who didn't know about the knowing of the not knowing of the claiming to know about the etc etc.....

Simple fact: Priests have been doing what priests do for a LONG TIME, and the PURPOSE of a priest has been KNOWN by EVERYONE for a LONG TIME.

Back in the '60s I knew people who were in "relationships" with priests. It didn't seem secret or dramatic or traumatic, it was just the way things work in the Church. If the situation was so perfectly obvious to a total outsider who never went to church, it must have been vastly more obvious to people who spent part of every day at Mass.

When you KNOW HOW THINGS WORK you can't get bogged down in epistemology. When you understand the PURPOSE of things, you won't bother to argue about a shared delusion.

Note on my own biases: Until a year ago I was more tolerant of Rome. I went along with the notion that the Sorosian demons currently leading the Church were not typical. After reading Henry Lea's 1877 history of the Inquisition, my tolerance disappeared. Lea's documentation was solid and extensive. This particular vice is mentioned, but only as one segment of the overall depravity. Clumsy title, but I can't find a more graceful sentence form. This time the salient event isn't the lack of barking, it's the lack of barking AT a particular target.

I was reading an article about Studebaker's Dictator model in the '20s and '30s. The author was puzzled as usual about American acceptance of the name. As usual I was thinking: No puzzle. Americans were NON-INTERVENTIONIST and NON-IDEOLOGICAL at that time. We minded our own business and didn't expect the world to copy our thoughts exactly. We understood that PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT, and we also understood that the proper role of government is to PROTECT AND ADVANCE THE INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE. Dictators were doing the job well in some countries, so we found the title admirable.

At that time Italy was not a threat of any kind to America. Italy was a threat to Libya. (Contrast left as exercise for reader.)

Wait! Italy is not a threat to America now, but Salvini IS a meddler and hacker and interferer in EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AS PUTIN.

Mueller defined a traitorous conspiracy as "favoring non-Hillary candidates and disparaging Hillary." Not my parodic misinterpretation, his explicit LEGAL definition. Disparaging Hillary is MEDDLING HACKING INTERFERENCE CONSPIRACY TREASON WAR.

Salvini is MEDDLING in the same way that Putin and Orban are meddling. All are providing an EXAMPLE of governments that serve their people, which we can compare with our dysgovernment that is busy SLAUGHTERING US by the million and EXTERMINATING other countries by the dozen.

Why isn't Deepstate barking at Salvini, who is closer to America ethnically and linguistically than Hungary and Russia? Lots of Americans are Italian, and very few are Russian or Hungarian. Italian culture and Italian food are mainstream American. Salvini should thus be seen as a more potent and more dangerous MEDDLER than Putin and Orban.

We hear stories of Apollo astronauts fixing things with ductape. We hear that Americans are supposedly "independent" and "self-sufficient". We hear that Russians and other Current Enemies are mindless obedient slaves.

If this was ever true, it's no longer true.

Modern Americans are mindless termite-like obedience machines.

A perfect fable:

Mission Control instructed cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev and Sergei Prokopiev to immediately start patching the leak. But the decision reportedly caused some tension aboard the station ... the ISS commander, US astronaut Andrew Feustel, disagreed with the plan.

Feustel reportedly wanted to take 24 hours to consider all the possible repair options, since the leak posed no immediate serious threat to the station and the crew. With the Russian cosmonauts eager to fix the cracks, the ISS commander refused to participate in further repairs until NASA and the Russian Space Agency came to an agreement back on Earth.

The Russians were left alone to deal with the leak, and on Thursday night they patched the cracks by filling them with epoxy-based sealant and applying duct tape – both part of the standard repair kit.

The Russians used ductape and SOLVED THE PROBLEM. The American refused to SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

Americans are no longer interested in SOLVING PROBLEMS. We only want to avoid punishment by bureaucrats and lawyers. This is understandable, given Deepstate's addiction to instant extermination of heretics.

BUT: This isn't really part of the post-1989 Switchover. It's not really a change of attitude. Russians have ALWAYS been good improvisers and Americans have ALWAYS waited for the highly organized expensive non-solution. Even within the specific context of space stations, this difference is permanent.

Orlov included this difference in his 2008 analysis of collapsing empires. He concluded that American collapse will be much more painful BECAUSE Americans have the Kraut habit of waiting for government commands, while Russians are accustomed to ductaping their problems, often with great ingenuity.
