No, not paradox
Forgot to retune radio, ended up listening to Dennis Prager for a while. I try to avoid both the standard Repoofs and the standard Commies; both are globalist. Prager is discussing culture vs politics with Ben Shapiro. Nice calm discussion with some good points.
Prager made a point that seems paradoxical: The hippieshit generation grew up with "clean" and "moral" television like Father Knows Best as our main cultural influence, yet we turned radical. Where did the radical come from? Prager said it came from school.
Hell no. It came from TV. Father Knows Best was NOT typical of 1950s TV. There was an inflection point in 1956, trailing behind the Roy Cohn Coup in 1954. After Cohn and his fag boyfriend Welch conspired to ruin secret fag McCarthy, everything changed in TV. The globalist commie writers who had been unemployed or cautious came roaring back with a PURE VENGEANCE. After 1956 TV looked the same, but all plotlines were explicitly designed to rip apart Natural Law culture. COMPLEX MORAL CONUNDRUMS formed the core of every story, intended to create cognitive dissonance. All permanent certainties were pulverized.
Plain numerical fact: TV was rare before 1954. Most TV stations went on the air between '54 and '56, and most households got a TV in those years. The pre-Cohn version of TV reached only about 20% of America. So when you say "1950's TV" you're practically speaking about post-56 TV, in other words post-Cohn TV.
The visual aspect of TV changed several years after the plotlines. Before 1959 the people in movies and TV looked like actual Americans. Yeah, they were prettier than real people because nobody wants to look at uglies; but their clothing and hair and behavior were close to reality. After 1959, American and Western Euro TV and movies departed from reality. In real life females are about half the population. In post-59 US/UK/EU movies, females disappeared except for a few "boy-like" mixed-gender entities. Movies and TV were chiefly about males relating intimately with males, which agreed precisely with Roy Cohn's reality. Foreign movies outside US/UK/EU (Egypt, Turkey, Greece, India) continued to reflect normal life. Women were an equal part of life, and women in movies looked like real-life women.

Little levitation
When transferring clothes from washer to dryer, I clean out the lint filter and slap the dust on top of the dryer. Occasionally I put the piled-up dust in the wastebasket. Coot-proofing trick, minimizes squatting and rising actions.
This morning a moving object caught my attention. Moth? Spider? No, a small blob of dust was hovering an inch away from the main pile and an inch above the dryer. I couldn't see a 'tether'; it was just balanced by static attractions and repulsions. It stayed there long enough to get a video.
Because the video is awful as always, here's a preview pointing to the (slightly lighter color) levitator. (Incidentally, the dust is actually blue, not brown. This camera turns everything red when light is dim.)
At the end of the clip I blew a little puff of air, not aimed at the dust; that was enough to break the balance and snap the levitator back onto the larger pile.

Two questions

Why is this considered newsworthy?

Two questions.
(1) How did we develop the peculiar notion that criminality is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from other talents?
(2) Why do we assume that criminality is a "random" thing that could happen to anyone?

Answers:
(1) is no mystery. If we handle criminality the same as other tendencies, we will have to conclude that
(2) is more subtle. It's true that anyone can break a law given the proper conditions. In modern Western tyrannies, it's especially true that everyone is breaking at least one law all the time. When the web of laws covers every single action necessary for ordinary life, the web is ready to catch anyone at any time. It's just a question of springing the trap. Anyone can be prosecuted and jailed, with full "due process", if the authorities decide to spring the trap.
This all-encompassing web (and Web) was partly designed for the purposes defined in (1): forcing the culture to accept the actions of Protected Classes by eliminating natural and commonsensical distinctions. Mainly it's just plain tyranny.

Now that he has paid his dues to the Empire by exonerating the Empress of comparatively unimportant crimes, he's able to speak the truth about important crimes that affect everyone. MUSIC?
I was sitting down to eat my usual evening chili-like substance. Tired of the repetitive ratshit on Sunday radio; nothing but infomercials and decade-old Best Ofs. Started tuning across the AM band... Wait! There's no station at that freq... Yes there is!
MUSIC!
Not just music.
A Haydn string quartet on AM radio!
Astonishingly good sound quality. Seems like FM quality by comparison, because all Spokane AM stations maintain a consistent and solid Citizens Band sound quality and Citizens Band content quality. After the Haydn, Aida then the Radetzky March. All excellent performances and excellent sound.
Actually this is how AM used to sound. Maybe it still sounds this good in other more fortunate cities.
Have I died and gone to 1938? Did a quick reality check... No, doesn't seem to be a dream or a vision. Still here in my crappy but warm little house, eating my good homemade chili. Rain on the window. Neck vertebrae need a pop... there, that's better. I doubt that neck vertebrae would need popping in Heaven.
The music kept going without interruption until 4:30. Then the answer came. It's a brand new station running transmitter tests before full opening. KFIO.
Well, not brand new. It's a very old allocation that has been dark for a while. Here's their announcement and history.

Getting old. Misidentifying the music was always possible. I'm a fan of classical but not an expert. Misspelling the name was not possible 10 years ago.

It's not all pluponents
Following on previous item, trying to see Emersonian justice. It's not obvious, but it's there.
Broadly speaking, with some important exceptions, OPponents are right. The solution to most problems runs in the LESS direction or the STOP direction. Simplify, simplify, simplify. Eat less, drink less, buy less, consume less media, stop gambling, stop using the credit card, stop funding "science", stop making aggressive wars.
Broadly speaking, PLUponents are wrong. They claim to be solving the problem by increasing the problem to infinity.
All forces within USA STRONG are infantile PLUponents. There are no adult or even proper adolescent OPponents. Everyone who briefly appears to be an OPponent turns out to be an Agent Provocateur. We are completely fucked.
But there are some actual grownups in the world, and our infinite evil has finally forced their hand into a productive form of OPposition.
Putin and Orban and Fico (and maybe May) are OPposing EU's evil in a constant relentless adult way. Several other nations are watching the adult constancy and gaining more OPpositional strength.
Two of our long-term "allies" have finally had it with our omnicidal lunacy and aggression. Duterte in Phillipines and Erdogan in Turkey are switching to the sane side, stripping out Sorosians and reducing our capacity to base and stage evil aggression in those parts of the world. This is a MEANINGFUL act of OPposition. Shrinking our hegemonic territory directly causes LESS evil.

Pluponents
A modern tendency crosses and contradicts two perfectly normal human impulses.
Impulse 1: Wanting MORE is part of life. Hunger for food or attention or affection is perfectly natural. Growing up means learning to control and channel this impulse. Civilization, now extinct, formerly transformed this energy source into more productive activity.
Impulse 2: Opposing authority is a natural stage in all social mammals. When it's time to leave the nest and make your own nest, the youngster resists parental or group authority. Parents or group respond by saying goodbye in various instinctive or cultural ways. In more intelligent animals, parents use the rebellion to train the offspring for toughness. You can see this in the increasingly rough play between mama dog and puppy, and you can see it in Mormon eldership or mandatory military service or the Journeyman stage of traditional job training. All the same.

This strange new tendency appears in the college safe-spacers and also among "leftist" intellectuals of various types.
Traditional OPPONENTS say "I hate what you're doing. I want LESS of what you're doing", or "I want the OPPOSITE of what you're doing."
These new PLUPONENTS say "I hate what you're doing. I want MORE of what you're doing."
Traditional college radicals wanted to be FREE from administration rules, FREE from the force and muscle of authority.
Modern college radicals want TIGHTER administration rules, MORE muscle over here.
Traditional economic radicals wanted LESS bank power, LESS debt and MORE connection between currency and real value.
Modern economic radicals (Modern Monetary Theory, Bitcoin) want MORE bank power, INFINITE debt, TOTAL decoupling from real value. They hate Krugman and Keynes because Krugman and Keynes are WEAK, not because Krugman and Keynes are evil.
The worst example of all is the Sorosian media. Everything you see and hear in the media is 100% evil, 0% truth. There is no physical room for MORE evil or LESS truth. Nevertheless, media often "searches its soul" and "investigates" its own coverage. The "investigation" always finds the problem is too much balance. 100% evil is NOT ENOUGH. 0% truth is TOO MUCH. We need MORE THAN 100% evil and LESS THAN 0% truth.
My word PLUPONENT is poor Latin but gets the point across. Ob means against, Plus means more.

Neat idea! Oops.
Related to this discussion of why sound recording came late.
From a 1950 radio trade journal. This was meant as a module for other manufacturers to build around. Hey! Neat idea! Tape and phonograph, record and play!
Oops. Do you see the problem? Clearly the other mfrs saw the problem. Nobody ever used it. I'm tempted to think it's an April Fool, but it was in the May issue.
Later: Actually there are two problems. (1) Threading the tape under the turntable would be tricky, and a pileup or kink would be unremovable**. (2) The control knob would rub against the tape when the front reel is full. Both could have been solved by putting the tape heads off to the left, between the reels. I don't see why the maker couldn't build it that way.
Of course the biggest problem is the 'missing narcissism' that I discussed earlier. People just didn't feel any urgent need to record sounds.

** Unremovable: On a phonograph of this era, pulling the turntable out can be quick and greasy, or it can be an all-day job, depending on whether the turntable has a lock setscrew to keep it in place. Either way, it's not a task you want to perform every time the tape gets tangled! Proper reel-to-reel recorders had a simple cover over the heads that you could slip off in a second.

Constants and variables 50
Convective thought about political configurations.
Permanently determined constants: The sun rises and sets. Things fall downward. Hillary will be President.
Congress is more of a variable.
What would happen if both houses of Congress went firmly D, with Sanders and Warren in strong positions? Bernie and Elizabeth have been conditionally loyal in the pres campaign, but they don't like Hillary and don't agree with the whole Bush/Clinton line.
Bernie and Elizabeth are close to the Populist position on several important matters. They want to punish bank crimes. They want Medicare For All. They don't like to make new wars. They want to see less outsourcing, more jobs for ordinary people.
Hillary is Bush on steroids. The most ferociously aggressive warmaker since Madman Lincoln, and the best friend of Goldman.
Could Bernie and Elizabeth muster an override majority on those important points? If so, this combination could actually improve the country instead of destroying it.
B and E are wrong about other important matters: they would continue Obama's destruction of culture and continue pushing the Global Warming crime.
But if economic policy starts to re-energize industries and unions, Natural Law culture will regain some force. It won't be solely associated with SMASHABLE Repooflicans. Similarly with Global Warming. More powerful coal miners and steel workers, dissociated from Repoofs, will slow down the scammers.
Still negative but not nearly as crucial as banks/ZIRP and imperial aggression.

Why do real scientists miss this obvious point?
A classic example of a perpetual puzzle. One of the writers at Uncommon Descent gives us this.....

Its provisions were tried for a few years and then discarded in 1803. Since then, "courts" use the axioms and provisions BACKWARDS. Freedom of religion is the basis for jailing Christians. Freedom of speech is the basis for cultivating riots to shut down unfashionable speech. The specific restatement of the crazy equality claim in the 14th Amendment is used to justify affirmative action. The full faith and credit clause justifies rejecting a divorce decree from another state. = = = = = Since the ID author was talking about education, let's apply it... Why do we need training? When you know HOW SOMETHING REALLY WORKS, you know how to use it. Vocational and experiential education gives you experience with HOW THINGS REALLY WORK. A student who knows HOW THINGS REALLY WORK is immune to official and cultural lies. Can we extend this to grammar and government? We have good DESCRIPTIVE texts for grammar, but we didn't use them in schools until recently. Common Core finally gives a strong and refreshing push in the right direction. We have good DESCRIPTIVE texts for government, but we still don't use them. Machiavelli is the Old Testament of descriptivism. Parkinson is the New Testament. Many later writers have added accurate OBSERVATIONS AND DESCRIPTIONS of how bureaucracies really work. I don't think any of these observations have been turned into school texts or curricula. Why? Thinking about it.... Aha. Unfortunately a lab for bureaucracy is impossible. There's a natural obstacle beyond simple foolishness or political idiocy. You can train every branch of physical science with lab sessions. Frog innards can be studied in a week. Ohm's Law and Newton's Laws can be observed in a week. Plant nutrition and growth can be observed in a year. Food chemistry can be mastered in a year. These passive parts of Nature are always ready to be observed and manipulated. If you observe and manipulate competently, you'll always get the same result. The structure of a large organization DOESN'T reveal itself in a year, and CAN'T form in an artificial setting. "Social Science" courses have repeatedly tried to set up "dictatorships" but they don't show anything. Classic bad example was the mid-60s Stanford experiment that tried to simulate a prison in a few weeks. The "guards" took total control and tortured the "inmates". This is EXACTLY OPPOSITE to the structure of a real prison, where the strongest inmates (typically the black inmates) control the guards. It takes many years for real structures to crystallize, and it takes REALITY. You aren't going to see it in a one-semester experiment where the participants have all sorts of external motives and lives, and you sure as fuck aren't going to see it in a computer-based Game Theory "experiment".

This year has been thoroughly normal, and today we're having the normal default autumn 25G45 windstorm. Lots of people (including me!) are tending toward panic, remembering last year's uniquely NONnormal 50G70 windstorm. A serious disaster leaves deep tracks in the mind.
Spokane's paid media rarely bother to wake up for local problems, preferring to CHEER CHEER CHEER their Supreme And Holy Lordess And Savioress Hillary and SMASH SMASH SMASH those Xenophobe Buffoon Deplorables. When they do condescend to devote a few seconds to weather, it's an avant-garde tossed salad of Seattle stuff, Florida stuff, NYC stuff, Hawaii stuff, criminal Global Warming ratshit, and an occasional picospeck of Spokane stuff, with timelines running forward and backward and inside-out simultaneously.
Yesterday, just this one time, KXLY did a CLEAR AND COMPREHENSIBLE AND STRAIGHTFORWARD forecast, specifically and solely for UNCOOL SPOKANE, without even the slightest reference to those other COOOOOOOL places, laying out WHAT TO EXPECT and WHEN TO EXPECT IT, and CLEARLY defining how and why this normal windstorm is nothing like last year's disaster.

Express flips
For a couple of years UK Express has been pro-Brexit, anti-EU, generally sympathetic to Orban and Putin and other non-globalists.
Suddenly it's flipped. Maybe two weeks ago? Now the Express sounds just like CNNFOXNBCABCCBSNYTIMES. Could be randomish or unintended, but it's a noticeable move.
A week later: Nope, that was just a randomish 'streak'. Back to normal.

Amid all the hacks and counterhacks in this "election", this is the first revelation that truly surprises me, the first INFORMATION that I didn't already know or assume.
A long series of managers for Trump's campaign are coming out and saying that Trump failed to perform the basic steps necessary for a national campaign. He wouldn't allow the managers to prepare for oppo research by learning his own history in detail.
This explains why the campaign is constantly blindsided by the Clinton syndicate, and it also explains why the managers keep quitting in despair.
Everyone knows how the Clintons operate. Consistent pattern for 40 years. The Clintons kill their opponents. Plain and simple fact. This is why media and government officials always obey the Clintons. Nobody wants to die.
Trump is a top-level hard operator who knows how to fight dirty. His record in dealing with Atlantic City and Vegas shows that he CAN beat Mafias. So I ass-u-me-d that he would take all necessary steps to beat or match the Clinton Mafia, which is more vicious than the Wop or Injun Mafias in modern times.
But he didn't.
Conclusion: He never intended to win this. He's either (1) doing it for a lark, or (2) running a big Soros-style bet on chaos, or (3) paid by the Clintons to guarantee a total Clinton landslide with full mandate for killing the Deplorables.

Better metaphor

Counterforce isn't the right metaphor. Most Romans weren't actively fighting, which was a good thing. Alinsky and Soros WANT to have active fighting. That's the point and purpose. When the Natural Law side starts agitating, its INDIVIDUAL members become easy INDIVIDUAL targets for DeepState blackmail and prosecution and basketizing and disemployment. The non-fighters observe and retreat.
In engineering terms, Romans were more like a giant shock absorber or ground plane. The demonic force or charge was simply ABSORBED without any effect, because Romans, backed by permanent Natural Law, were IMMOVABLE and UNCHANGEABLE.
In medical terms, Romans were a huge population equipped with natural antibodies. The Sorovirus tried to infect them but nothing happened except that the Sorovirus USED UP ITS ENERGY.

The habit of engineering
Earlier I mentioned a mid-60s attempt at interactive educational TV, which didn't go anywhere. Turns out I was wrong ... there was one major school system that used the setup.
According to an RCA quarterly in 1966, a New York school system installed a full-fledged interactive UHF station.
Yup, it was the Catholic system.
Not the expected engineer type in 1966! Her slide rule appears to have 12 decades, which means it's superior to the usual log-log.

1/16-baked idea.
When teachers and counselors advise on job choice, they correctly consider basic talent and passion. They miss the most important determiners: STATUS and RESOURCES.
You may have good social strategy talent and a will to lead. If you don't have some combination of attractiveness and impressiveness, you won't be a leader.
You may have excellent math skills and a passion for detail. If you don't live in a place where bookkeepers or engineers can be trained on the job (resources), or if you aren't in a culture that respects math (status), you won't be a bookkeeper or engineer.
A good formulation would run parallel to the old method of judging the probability of a crime. Means, motive and opportunity.
If you have the skills, resources and status needed to accomplish X, you'll accomplish X. If any element is missing, you shouldn't waste time preparing for X.

I've been reading a LOT of tech periodicals published during both WW1 and WW2, and I'd never seen this sort of thing before:
This was in Tele-Tech, an industry trade journal, in March 1949. The article was mildly critical of Truman's massive rearmament effort, which was clearly aimed at teaching Russia a lesson about globalism. Korea wasn't mentioned, and it's not clear that Korea was the known target at that point. Looks like Korea was just the first available opportunity to justify the program. Parkinson.
Russia mistakenly thought that bearing most of the burden and most of the deaths in the fight against Hitler entitled it to some consideration in the postwar world. DeepState was rearming to teach Stalin otherwise, just as it's now rearming to teach Putin the same lesson in the post-9/11 world.
Truman (more precisely James Byrnes) was clamping down harder than Wilson or FDR. The brief moment of open-source attitude just after Hiroshima was all gone.

Another alternate-universe item. I've always wondered why automakers were so slow to make proper station wagons.
This item from Radio Retailing in 1938 shows a proper station wagon. Looks to me like a '33 or '34 Dodge.
BUT: As far as I can tell, Dodge didn't make an all-steel station wagon with windows in the '30s. Dodge did make a steel-sided 'commercial sedan'...
... and a very rare all-wood station wagon, in traditional open-air style. Totally impractical, purely for status. Owning a wagon was a way of saying "My yacht maintenance crew has too much spare time."
(This is a '36 but the wagon part is the same)
So this practical wagon must have been semi-custom, possibly by one of the ambulance/hearse coachbuilders like Proctor-Keefe. Clearly there was a demand for a vehicle of this size and form, as Willys has been proving continuously since 1947!

Online media almost happened
In 1938 several newspapers were experimenting with sending news by facsimile on shortwave bands. Crosley was trying to fill in the other end of this process. Clearly an 'early adopter' product. The price was $60 + $80 = $140 for full rig. Inflating by 20 = $2800 in today's dollars. Similar to the first practical PCs around 1983.
At three 8x11 pages per hour this was guaranteed to fail. A real 1938 newspaper was a two-dimensional experience, with lots of different eye-attracting material on each BIG page. News, humor, poetry, cartoons, photos, ads. No time for any of the good stuff on this system.
If the system had concentrated solely on text, it could have used Baudot teletype instead of facsimile. Teletypes could rattle out a page per minute, using the same SW bands with less modulated bandwidth. That would have made it worth the trouble for a serious text-consumer. With a little more inventiveness (eg using something like a Vari-Typer for output), the teletype could have turned out a big two-dimensional page with headlines and columns and 'ASCII pictures', coming close to the real newspaper experience.
Unlike the modern Web, this wouldn't be 'interactive' ... but then the Web has pretty much ceased being 'interactive' anyway. No major newspaper or website allows comments now. A little bit of truth was leaking through once in a while. Can't let that happen. Only 100.000000000000000% pure Soros brain-poison can be emitted.

Galileo's kingpin
Convective thought.
In the big picture, it's just plain ODD that the dispute between heliocentric and geocentric views is always treated as important.
The universe doesn't have a center, so there's no centric. Galileo wasn't right or wrong, and his opponents weren't right or wrong. The entire argument was about convenience of calculation. Nothing more.
Using the sun as centerpoint makes the math easier when you're predicting seasonal motions or the positions of other planets. Using the earth as center makes the math easier when you're dealing with orbital precession or tides or time zones. For calculations at the galaxy level, both earth and sun are completely irrelevant.
We don't treat other centerpoint decisions with the same degree of drama and importance.
For instance, Polistra could insist that the left kingpin of her Bantam is the centerpoint for ALL cars and trucks and trains. This would make it easy to determine the path and travels of her Bantam, and hard to figure and predict every other car. Nobody would listen, nobody would even consider this to be a worthy argument. We understand that each vehicle needs to be figured with respect to its own steering angles and center of gravity, not some other car's centers.
How come we understand this with steering but not with the earth? More generally, how come we don't understand this point in politics and economics? Best argument yet
This year's USA STRONG election is the best argument ever for deleting 1776 and returning to Parliament. Every election is a good argument, but this one is perfect.
Our fucked "system" requires voters in Florida and Ohio to pick a personality instead of an agenda, on behalf of the entire country. If you are a Floridian or Ohioan, and you prefer agenda A over agenda B, but find the personality who fronts agenda A to be untrustworthy or criminal, you have no other choice. You either skip voting or vote for B. After the election everyone, including the 48 states that didn't participate in the choice, is stuck with the result for 8 years. The only way to remove a bad personality OR a bad agenda is assassination.
The Parliamentary system uses personalities as fronts and icons, but pivots on agendas. If you prefer agenda A, you vote for your local representative of party A. Whichever agenda has a majority of the entire country (not just two provinces) gets to pick the personality for Prime Minister. If the PM turns out to be inadequate or criminal, his party can replace him immediately. No election needed. If the country decides that agenda A no longer works, the reps of agenda B can call an election to see if the decision is strong enough to switch agendas. No assassination needed.
We've seen Parliament in action several times lately, especially on the Brexit referendum. The people informed their reps that things needed to change; Cameron felt the pain and called the referendum; when it went the wrong way, his party replaced him with a new PM who was willing to act FOR the will of the people. The new PM isn't moving as fast as I'd like, but nevertheless she IS moving in the correct direction.
None of that can happen in USA STRONG. We're rigidly pinned to suicide and disaster by DeepState. No movement is possible until DeepState finally pisses off Putin sufficiently that he removes our East Coast from the earth.
I'm praying hard for that consummation.

Non-barking cake
In previous item I mentioned that we no longer need tiresome measurements and science when describing weather events. We just say "GAIA IS PUNISHING US FOR CHRISTIANITY" and we're done.
Convective thought: This part of the Creed needs to be modernized, and several other pieces of conventional DeepState bigotry also need to be specialized. Natural Law is still the enemy, but Natural Law has now been personalized and named.
Our specific enemy now is Russia, and Natural Law is only one part of our hatred for Russia.
Russia is our enemy because Russia shows that Life Outside The Empire can succeed. We cannot allow such an example to persist. Modern Russia's success includes a strong connection between national government and national culture, which means Christianity.
We're also missing other ingredients of our historical Hate Recipe. In 1918 we wiped out all references to German things. All German foods were avoided or renamed, place names were dekrauted, songs and books were deleted.
We ran a similar process with Russian things and names in the 1950s, though it wasn't as noticeable because Russian names and things are comparatively rare.
And we baked a bizarrely conflicted Hate Cake in 2001. Bush The Son told us "See Something Say Something", which most people interpreted to mean "Watch for Muslims plotting terrorist acts"; and at the same time Bush The Son actively and ferociously protected Muslim beliefs and people. Desired result: Deplorables who thought they were being patriotic got prosecuted for "Hate Crimes". This was the whole point and purpose of 9/11. Kickstarting the pogrom.
Is the current non-barking Recipe evidence of a similar intent? Most likely. The Trump phenomenon has the same Cognitive Dissonance smell as the See Something Say Something trick. Like trapping ants. Get all the Deplorables to cluster around a candidate who seems to be speaking truth, then expose the candidate as just another fraud, close the lid of the Basket and burn it.

Flood Not Of Colour
Still binge-reading old radio magazines. Ran into an echo of a big event that has pretty much disappeared. This journal published by Western Electric, aimed at buyers of its broadcasting equipment, had an article on the major floods of 1948.
Two radio stations coped with the floods in different ways. WKYW in Louisville knew their transmitter was in a frequent flood plain, so they simply built the whole thing on pontoons! When the Ohio flooded this time, the transmitter building was "cast off from its moorings and anchored." Just part of the routine. SMART.

KPQ in Wenatchee was not in a known flood plain, but most of Wash flooded in June of '48, and KPQ adapted heroically. They called in a house-moving company to jack up the building, pushed a bunch of surplus inflatable life rafts under it, inflated them, and re-rigged all cables to be flexible. During the weeks of flooding they stayed on the air constantly.
WAIT! The whole state was flooded? Never heard of this.

SHOW YOUR FUCKING WORK: You'll benefit from it.
Assange finally got his ass in gear and released some good stuff.
Hillary's Goldman speeches illustrate why perfect transparency is GOOD for everyone. These excerpts are portrayed as 'damaging', but many of them are the opposite. They show Hillary speaking in private, sounding a lot more like Bernie than the public neocon Hillary. She seems to understand the inequality problem accurately. She's telling Goldman that the public has damned good reasons to distrust bankers. She acknowledges that Trump's speechwriters** were perfectly correct in wanting to close down the Mexican border.
Not entirely Bernian; she also tells the bankers that they can be trusted to regulate themselves, which is the standard Bush/Obama/Clinton public line.
If we had heard all of this material earlier, and if Hillary had been emphasizing the more populist parts, Bernie and Trump might not have gained traction.
** I can no longer credit Trump with any policy positions. It's blazingly clear by now that Trump's actual platform is: YOU'RE UGLY. YOU'RE FAT. I GET MORE NOOKIE THAN YOU.

Apple wins a patent case. Not really worth discussing; Apple wins all because lawyers and "judges" belong to the same tribe as Apple. But if there was any point in discussing it, I would have said.......
This is not an air conditioner. This is a phone. This is the only phone I own. It was made in 1990. It has a slider toggle on the back, which was STANDARD on phones of that era. (On this particular phone the slider toggle doesn't get much exercise; it's been OFF since 1990 except for one or two days per year.)
Perhaps "judges" have never used an actual phone. Perhaps "judges" always let their disposable unpaid undocumented Mexican servants handle reality so the "judges" can devote full time to obliterating civilization and enriching the Tribe.

This is not an air conditioner. This is a phone. This is the only phone I own. It was made in 1990. It has a slider toggle on the back, which was STANDARD on phones of that era. (On this particular phone the slider toggle doesn't get much exercise; it's been OFF since 1990 except for one or two days per year.)
Perhaps "judges" have never used an actual phone. Perhaps "judges" always let their disposable unpaid undocumented Mexican servants handle reality so the "judges" can devote full time to obliterating civilization and enriching the Tribe.

A vernier dial with a GEARSHIFT. This was intended for homebrew builders; I don't think it was ever used on a commercial radio. Too bad! Would have been endless fun.
The idea has resurfaced in digital controls like sliders. It's tremendously useful in graphics where you need to make BIG and small moves with the same dial, or in audio where you sometimes want to jump by one second and sometimes by a minute. If the control is set for fine, you're constantly whipping the mouse back and forth. If set for coarse, you can't locate anything.
A smart slider starts with fine and accelerates to broad.

Second draft
Second draft of Polistra's new Mill.
The printshop/mill hasn't changed much, but I've been 'building' a village around it. Still obviously unfinished.
Polistra is planting the flag a bit prematurely, taking advantage of a historic but hidden news item.
Even Bloomberg, normally in the vanguard of mindless anti-Russian bigotry, had to admit this fact:
Russia is now #1 in the world in wheat exports.
How did they do it? Capitalism plus RATIONAL trade policy. Instead of diverting all resources into the pockets of Goldman and Soros, Russia encourages PRODUCTION OF REAL VALUE to benefit the RUSSIAN PEOPLE.
While planting the flag again, Polistra wants to explain again why she salutes it. This was the flag of the Russian Colony on the west coast of North America, which once ran from Alaska down to California. (The southern end was only hopeful, the northern part genuine.) Polistra prays constantly for a future in which the evil Axis powers have been defeated again, and Russia has re-occupied this formerly Axis area to re-train us in REAL CAPITALISM.

Right the first time
Modern electrolarynxes are famously monotonous. No tone or level controls. There's no reason why the device couldn't include both, operated by fingers or by grip strength; but clearly it doesn't.
The FIRST artificial larynx, developed by Bell Labs in 1929, had a natural tone control. It was basically a little saxophone held against the tracheostomy, with output directed into the mouth. [p 12 in the PDF]
Pushing harder with diaphragm raised the pitch, and users learned to control this variable easily.
What did it sound like? A 1935 episode of Ripley included an example, starting at 21:30 in this MP3. It doesn't sound entirely normal, but it's 80% more natural and unobtrusive than the modern version. Besides the tone variation, consonants are properly formed because actual vibrating air is passing over the articulators. In this age of total Soros control, with every corporation and government bending over and taking it from #BLM and all the other Soros agencies and organizations, I wonder when automakers will refuse to sell cars to police.
The cop market has always been a valuable advertising point. Cops aren't swayed by styling. They want the car with the best combination of speed and handling and reliability and price.
Rational civilians want the same qualities, plus comfort. When we see cops preferring Fords, we are pulled in that direction. Smart automakers have always tried to gain and keep the cop endorsement.
Now that Soros matters infinitely more than rationality or ANYTHING else in the universe, the vector will switch.

When transistors first came on the market, Raytheon owned the niche. The CK722, more or less the default germanium transistor, was $3.10 retail. What was the advantage?
Price? Nope. The price list on right shows the types of tubes that would have been used in this portable. All in the same range as the CK722.
Size? Nope. Those early transistors were limited in their amplifying and power-handling ability, and a circuit often required two or three trannies, plus some extra resistors and so on, to replace one tube. Net size of components about the same.
The one number that tells the story is 8 POUNDS LESS BATTERIES. Tubes needed more space and a heavier chassis and (some) heavier components because they used higher voltages and generated more heat. The batteries would have added another 3 or 4 pounds.

Resilient. What makes a system resilient? Whether you're talking about software or mechanics or government, the answer is the same.
Decentralism. Localism. Minimal contact between layers. Varied mechanisms inside layers.
These qualities are strictly defined and uncontroversial in software and electronics. You want each input to be elastic, capable of bringing in a wide variety of values while rejecting definite errors or sabotage. Each input should be able to sum up or process its incoming values reliably. Each input should then pass on the sum or processed result to the next more central layer. The next layer should also be elastic to non-error incomings, and should process or sum up what it got from the front-panel inputs. Each of these modules can perform its function in all sorts of different ways, using transistors or tubes or relays or while-loops or for-loops or recursion, etc, etc. In fact it's BETTER if you have a variety of internal mechanisms, so you can handle different environmental problems. If transistors are especially fragile in hot weather, you want some tube modules. If short memory makes trouble for recursion, you want some for-loops.
Until the Switchover, the USA election system WAS resilient. It fulfilled all of those requirements. Inputs capable of understanding voter intent, unqualified voters rejected, variety of mechanisms within each module, only the processed sum was passed on to the next layer.
Since the Switchover, Bush/Clinton/Obama have been pushing and pushing and pushing for more standardization. All machines must be the same, all polling places must open and close at the same time, all IDs must be ignored.
Tight coupling, zero variety, error-rejection HARSHLY forbidden.

What's the strategy?
I've been hearing lots of radio ads for the LP candidates lately. None for R and D.
The lack of R and D is historically normal. Wash is permanently and reliably D. Both "parties" always recognize that there's no need to waste money on ads, and sane voters always recognize there's no point in voting.
The abundance of LP ads is not normal. Even more salient, the ads are GOOD. Unlike the drugged-out LP candidates, these ads hit every point in the right direction. LP must have hired some fairly expensive consultants and ad agencies.
Do they think there's a hope of gaining a majority? Even if LP got 100.00% of the votes, it wouldn't shift the electors. They would break their 'pledge' and pick Hillary.
"Law" is extinct. "Rules" are extinct. Only the Empire exists.

The usual "privacy" advocates are getting weeweed up as usual about Yahoo's admission that it let FBI have all sorts of info without "warrants". The usual techboys are responding in the usual way by pushing various fancy forms of blockchain and encryption.
All of them are missing the big point. From the START, the Web has been a branch of NSA. Everything you do on the Web is known to NSA. That was the WHOLE FUCKING PURPOSE of the Web.
It doesn't matter if Yahoo opens up a secondary channel with or without "warrants". "Warrants" no longer exist because the 1787 Constitution died in 1803.
Only three facts matter.
(1) Everything is accessible to NSA.
(2) NSA rarely if ever does anything with the information it gets.
(3) NSA designs all encryption, so NSA can decode all encryption.
Result: Null.
You don't need to worry about the passive absorption of info by NSA, and it doesn't matter if you encrypt or not. There's no evidence that any info acquired through this channel causes any real events. No arrests of real terrorists, no arrests of real criminals, no arrests of innocent bystanders. Nothing. It's just mindless consumption. It's just good old Parkinson.
You really need to worry about active efforts by FBI and all sorts of NGOs and cults. Agents provocateurs and recruiters. If a "support group" or "friend" or "political party" is persuading you to participate in some kind of protest, or persuading you to adopt a set of beliefs, DON'T GO ALONG. Don't accept ideological rides from strangers or "friends".
One of those "support groups" is the abovementioned privacy movement, persuading you to participate in specific encryptions or blockchain shit.

Would be a good idea
1/8-baked thought.
Most people are reasonably steady and predictable in their tendencies, and we get more steady as we get older.
Social media gives us a chance to know candidates for political office, or candidates for major CEO positions, to an extent that isn't possible with staged nonsense like "debates" or "interviews".
Trump and Hillary started out with staged speeches that were NOT typical of their steady and normal temperaments. In Hillary's case we got to know her from the Guccifer leaks. In Trump's case we got to know him from his own open Twitter output.
Now we can judge the normal tendencies of both. Hillary's normal tendency is infinite criminality, vile blackmail, gangland viciousness, universal murder and omnicide. Trump's normal tendency is absolutely trivial and unimaginably meaningless pre-teen girlfights.
In fact we don't even need 140 characters for these creatures. Two words will do.
Hillary: KILL EVERYTHING.
Trump: MINE'S BIGGER.
Let's turn this backwards. Get rid of all the "debates" and "interviews". In theory a neutral computer could pick up one month of public and private social media output from all official candidates, from before the campaign started. For 2016, pick a month in 2013.
Show us the entire month's output from all candidates, with overly personal or libelous stuff redacted. If a candidate genuinely has no output, genuinely doesn't use social media, that would tell us even more than the content from the users. This candidate is the ONLY good leader.
If we had seen an equally selected and filtered set of output from all official candidates at the start of the campaign, we wouldn't have been surprised. No bait-n-switch possible.
Of course this wouldn't work in practice because there is no neutral. Every agency or NGO that could possibly run this job belongs to the Empire.

Was this for surveying?
I've been listening solely to the 1939 'Secret Agent' radio shows at bedtime lately. Praised them in detail earlier. One good quality is their comparatively accurate use of technology.
Thought I found an exception to the rule, in this episode about fortified borders. The agents are trying to investigate a Kraut effort to undermine a border wall. At one point the agents use what seems to be a shortwave depth sounder to locate the digging. The sounder works in an impossible way, so this episode is definitely an exception to the rule.
But it turns out that shortwave surveying equipment actually existed, or more precisely was pictured and described as such in a reliable magazine in 1937.

Like all Kraut equipment, it's beautiful and precise, and it unquestionably existed. But was it a surveying tool as the authors believed? I doubt it. There's no transmitter, so it wouldn't work like radar. It's just a receiver, which means it's most likely a regular RDF set for locating other transmitters. The surveying scope would be a way to pinpoint the transmitter visually after you get the reading from radio. RDF was typically done by triangulation like surveying, so this device mounted the radio parts on a regular surveying transit.
The writers of K-7, who were technically well-informed if not expert, could have picked up this idea from the magazine.

Why did these unrelated events ..... Oh. Not unrelated. 2
Two unrelated Spokane stories today:
(1) The unimaginably evil extraterrestrial entities illegally occupying the "city" "council" decided to waste money and time yet again on an infinitely evil Sorosian resolution supporting their fellow infinitely evil Sorosian hypermonsters which are rioting against a pipeline in Dakota.
(2) Two working HUMANS were severely burned while performing maintenance at the city Waste "to" Energy plant, which actually takes more energy than it produces and prevents organic matter from replenishing the soil.
This is the first such accident since the Waste "to" Energy plant was opened in 1991 by an earlier pile of extraterrestrial monsters. Why no accidents before? The plant was previously operated under contract by Wheelabrator. In 2015 the current pile of extraterrestrials decided that Wheelabrator was too competent, and took over the running.
Unrelated? No. This is what happens when a city is illegally occupied by monsters. Money goes to COOOOOOOOOOOL satanic symbology. No money goes to UNCOOOOOOL normal maintenance of complex machinery that shouldn't have been built in the first place.

(2) After 1935 the two-box got rounded into the fastback. This has returned in modern times as minivan/SUV forms.
(3) More recent development of two-box is the mouse. Pointy nose, high butt. Most small sedans in the last decade or so are mice.
(4) The three-box was always present as coupes, but reached its platonic perfection with the 1952 Ford. GM and Chrysler picked this up in 1955 and it continued through the 60s and 70s, until Chrysler's minivan pulled the norm back toward two-box.
(5) The three-box softened in a convex way. Platonic was the '53 Studie, returning later in less graceful form, eg Caddy Seville and Chevy Vega.
(6) BUT: Cars have never rounded CONCAVELY. Even the slightest suggestion of a swaybacked nag refuses to sell. I can think of EXACTLY ONE example of a swaybacked three-box.

Made a point of watching the Big Deal From Wikileaks. No big deal. Assange rambled on about maybe starting to publish something at some point in the future, if he feels like it. The only halfway interesting aspect was that Firefox decided to stop carrying all the live feeds, while IE continued carrying. I didn't think browsers were 'publishers' or 'networks', but apparently FF, the Browser For Cool Tolerant People Who Fire Their Boss For Having Uncool Opinions, is now a 'publisher'.
Wikileaks is acting more and more like a standard intel agency. CIA, NSA, GCHQ. Need to know. Stovepipes. Methods and sources. Maybe they have reasons for this, but it's a long way from their stated mission "We open governments."

Why all the publicity?
"Local" media have been devoting considerable time and hype to a project that obviously isn't ready for public exposure. Supposedly it's "solar pavement" which will supposedly power half the country or something.
The project isn't even at 'proof of concept' stage yet. It's a few panels scattered across the floor of a room, not paving a road. No engineering student could get away with this for a senior project, let alone a graduate degree.
Nobody asks the simplest questions. Roads get dirty fast. Rubber and oil and spilled stuff. How will these panels clean themselves to continue generating power? Will they stand up to an oversize load? Studded tires? A moose or deer galloping across the road? A toxic spill? Heavy snowload? Salt? Deicer? Sand? Snowplows pushing the sand across the surface? A Palouse farmer driving his Caterpillar combine down the road to work his neighbor's field?
It took me one minute to list those questions.
The answer to all of those questions is clearly NO at this point. You don't need to analyze stresses and strains, just look at the materials and sizes of the panels. Unless they're made of diamond, they will almost instantly become opaque and useless.
Why all the publicity for such obvious nonsense? Who's paying?

who was clearly pleased with his Senatoritudinosity, tried to make a law prohibiting auto radios. Radio manufacturers and dealers mobilized and got the other legislators to vote down the law.
At that time car radios were less distracting than the more familiar post-1940 form. Many car radios had controls on the steering column:
where you could see the dial and turn the knobs without reaching WAY over to the middle of the dash.
More broadly, radios are not in the same category as other distractors. Radio is unquestionably distracting, but the positive and negative effects are about equal. Same fish, bigger pond
Comparing two issues of a trade journal for radio sponsors provides a sharp view of the transition from the self-sufficiency of Booker T to the plantation of MLK and LBJ.
Sponsor magazine had a yearly supplement dealing with the Negro Market. The 1960 version gave lots of statistics showing that the black population was getting richer and closer to median, and presented this as an opportunity for commerce.

ACTING LOCALLY has no purpose now because the good doctor has no hope of doing important work like facelifting Carol Channing. He only saves insignificant lives. Why did MLK and LBJ enlarge the pond? Specifically to halt the upward movement of the fish. And they succeeded magnificently. The black fish no longer had any hope of free-swimming INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS. The only way to "succeed" was by attaching himself to a DC political shark like MLK. And this remora mode continues today. After 1980 the same process was applied on a larger scale to working-class whites (and blacks as well). When American industries were segregated within the American neighborhood, ordinary men could use their skills to earn a good living and support a family. By forcing industries to swim in the same pond with China and Mexico, we devalued and eliminated the jobs an ordinary man can do, and thus devalued his status in the global community. Names that wouldn't work
A couple of names from the '40s that probably wouldn't work in today's hysterically symbolic environment.
The Recordio leads to a real question. I've already asked why the phonograph was such a late development. Overall, humans are just more interested in sight than sound.
More specifically, why was the recording side of sound so uninteresting and undeveloped? Edison's very first machine recorded and played equally well. It quickly evolved into the Dictaphone, which served well in offices for 50 years but never moved into homes. Phonographs for home use immediately became play-only, with all recording done by commercial studios and distributed in quantity. This runs parallel to the development of the telegraph, which began as a personal two-way communicator and soon fell back into a commercial service.
The Recordio ad suggests and sells a number of uses, which means people weren't thinking of those uses on their own.
Tape recorders became commercial around 1952. Tapes were easier in one respect: you could re-record and re-use a tape. But reel-to-reel tape is tremendously less convenient than discs. 8-track cartridges didn't even bother with recording. People sometimes used cassettes to pick up broadcasts, like the basic use of the Recordio; but rarely used cassettes to record their own voices for 'audio mail'.
In the '50s I knew lots of techie types. Radio announcers, engineering profs, ham operators. None of them had a Recordio. The only neighbor who had a Recordio was a mother whose Army officer husband was stationed overseas. She used the Recordio to exchange voice mail with her husband. Why was she the only one?

Oh. Quick answer. The Army and USO provided Recordio units on many foreign bases, so this officer's wife had a guaranteed two-way conversation. Civilians couldn't count on the recipient to talk back. This still doesn't help with the broader question: why was nobody interested in recording at all, even for their own amusement and memory?

Unfounded guess: Narcissism works with light and fails with sound. Mirrors for light have been around forever (ponds were here before humans!) and most people enjoy looking at their own face. HUNGARY WINS!
Orban put the question of migrants to his people, and the people responded ferociously. Something like 95% say NO to EU invasion.
This verifies Orban's EXISTING policy of DEFENDING HIS OWN COUNTRY.
20 years ago this whole discussion would have seemed absurd. Why is DEFENDING YOUR OWN COUNTRY AGAINST AN INVASION controversial and immoral? Well, it's not. Never was and never will be. Defending your own space at all levels is the ONLY MORAL ACTION and the ONLY SURVIVABLE ACTION.
The poll may not have reached the 50% turnout needed to be legally binding, but that's a null point. Unlike Brexit, this was not meant to be a decision-forcing referendum. It was meant to be a statement FROM HUNGARY TO EU, and it succeeds wildly.

"Law" is extinct
More proof, not that it's needed, of the absolute extinction of law and logic. It's all in the blood now. It's all about WHO YOU ARE. If you belong to Correct castes and tribes, everything you do is rewarded. If you belong to Incorrect castes and tribes, everything you do is bombed down to bedrock.
The sprawling encampment that's a protest against the four-state Dakota Access oil pipeline has most everything it needs to be self-sustaining - except a federal permit to be there. The camp near the confluence of the Missouri and Cannonball rivers in North Dakota is on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers land. But the agency says it won't evict the protesters due to free speech reasons.Remember the Malheur ranchers? They were illegally trespassing on Federal land. They deserved to be kicked out (and I said so at the time.) They were kicked out, properly and correctly. When they got into a shootout with the police, one of them died. Again proper and correct. When you attack a cop, you get shot. Everyone understood this until Soros persuaded blacks to misunderstand it so Soros could use blacks as weapons to obliterate civilization, and persuaded the media to misunderstand it when the attacker is black so Soros could use blacks as weapons to obliterate civilization. Rather obvious
Well, I said yesterday that I was done defending Trump. I guess this isn't exactly defending him; it's more like marveling that the Empire's media gets away with such LOW-QUALITY propaganda. The hacked tax return is probably Trump's. I'm sure he pulled all sorts of sneaky tricks to avoid taxes. That's what rich fuckheads do. Tax evasion is the sole purpose of "conservatism".
But a rich fuckhead's accountant wouldn't ADD EXTRA DIGITS to the return with a different typewriter that has a different font and a different line-height. A rich fuckhead's accountant who was trying to pull a sneaky semi-legal trick could afford to pick up a fresh 1040 from his stack of fresh 1040s, and could afford to spend an extra three minutes retyping the entire form. In fact ANY accountant, dishonest or honest, would start fresh when making a correction. Aside from plain professional pride, looking like a bad forgery is an excellent way to catch IRS attention and bring on an audit.
Rational conclusion: this is a bad forgery, but we are forced to believe it's good.

PSP is not an especially smart program, but its makers seem to have included a very smart recognition algorithm for this one specific purpose. What would happen if you tried a bill that was designed later than this PSP version? Would a new Harriet Tubman 20 be okay? If so, why bother with the error box at all?

What about the last layer?
Reading the predictable response of the globalist media to Hungary's referendum on migrants. They state AS FACT that defending your own country is SHAMEFUL and a VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS. They state AS FACT that a leader who respects the will of his own people is AUTHORITARIAN KKK HITLER TROLL, while a leader who rapes her own people into abject submission is DEMOCRATIC.
Globalists are perfectly consistent at all levels. Defending your country from globalist tyranny is bad, defending your province or city from migrants is bad, defending your land and livestock from wolves and grizzlies is bad, defending your job from outsourcing is bad, defending your savings from confiscation is bad, defending your culture from Soros-controlled weaponized humans is bad, defending your house and family from burglars is bad.
All of the seemingly unrelated 'movements' work together to smash natural boundaries at all levels. No divisions, no walls, no houses, no families, no humans. Only the SUPREME WILL AND MIND OF SOROS shall exist.
New thought: WAIT! Haven't they missed something? What about the internal defenses of cells and organs from viruses and bacteria? Are they forgetting the last level of self-defense?
Nope. This layer isn't nearly as violent as the other layers, but it's just as efficient. Modern medicine works hard to REPLACE natural defenses by artificial defenses that can be TAKEN AWAY if you fail to obey. Blood pressure pills held hostage. Opioid prescriptions to addict you. Antibiotics to disrupt your gut balance. Constant barrage of propaganda and "news" designed to depress and disarm the emotional side of your immune system.
It's the same pattern as gun control. You can't own your natural means of defense; you can't buy the artificial versions on the open market; you must rely on the authorities to DECIDE when you're worth defending.

The mayor of a small town in northern Germany was beaten by an unknown attacker, likely over his plans to establish refugee housing in the area, authorities in Oersdorf said on Friday. The unimaginably infinitely hyperevil dysgovernment of USA STRONG has just added seven species of bees to the kill list, thus guaranteeing their extinction. When an animal is on the kill list (appropriately called the "endangered list" because the animal has now become both endangered and a danger to humans) no responsible property owner wants to have the animal anywhere near his property. The animal has become a tyranny virus, giving the dysgovernment a perfect reason to destroy your property and kill you. The only sane and survivable response is to quietly eliminate the animal, and eliminate the flowers or food that might attract it, BEFORE the dysgovernment realizes the animal is there.
