Simple economic equation
Trump wins in states where the Depression is solid. Cruz wins in states where the Depression is weak. Because the Depression affects most of the country, Trump is likely to stay ahead.
It's a simple pattern. Took a while to emerge, but it doesn't require any nonsense about XENOPHOBIC BUFFOONS or Celebrity Apprentices or "true conservative ideology".
The people who claim to be "political scientists" or "economists" should have seen this simple economic equation in advance. They didn't. No surprise. Those people are vicious vile all-consuming blind bigots, totally stewed in their own toxic juices of bizarre lethal serial-killer delusional bigoted myths. They continue to tell us that there's no recession, that new iPhone apps compensate for inflation. Raw ratshit. Pure lunacy.
In reality: Cruz takes Okla, Texas, Kansas, Idaho. Each is a comparatively prosperous island for different reasons, just as some areas were prosperous islands in the previous major Depression. Okla and Texas are islands because smart governors have figured out how to use the boom/bust oil money to create a wider and steadier range of industries. Idaho is basically a college town, benefiting from government support of high-tech genocide. Must admit that I'm not sure about Kansas. Cattle and wheat are doing well enough, but they're no longer the only game. Maybe the high-tech end (OP, Lawrence, Manhattan) is dominating the state now.
Later: The county map for Idaho verifies one guess; details for Kansas falsify the other guess. In Idaho, the college towns and ex-Calif white-flight counties went for Cruz, and the rural areas went for Trump. Kansas was caucuses, so the R machine was able to impose its Cruz choice everywhere.
Sanders vs Hillary is more complicated. The economic equation is present, but clearly the D machine is more powerful than reality in many states.
Half-baked thought: Mich vs Miss, rovers vs sitters. The blacks who moved to Mich between 1920 and 1950 were rovers, seeking more prosperity through a new kind of job. Offshoring and Goldmanization have killed their jobs, so they're unhappy. They understand that Hillary is Goldman. The blacks who stayed in Miss were more security-minded, and continue to want security above prosperity. For Miss blacks, security comes from the D party through government jobs and black-"owned" NGOs.
