Prescriptive vs Descriptive
We're accustomed to
this distinction in the study of language. Descriptive linguists simply describe, accurately and appropriately, the way various types of people use language. Prescriptive linguists begin with arbitrary and generally delusional ideas about how people SHOULD speak, and apply these insane rules by force to ALL people.
Americans have traditionally followed the Prescriptivists, in language as in all else. Our
founding documents are delusionally Prescriptive, and our conventional wisdom about human behavior is consistently wacko. Some
countries and cultures have a far more Descriptive attitude toward government and wisdom, following the Descriptivist documents of
Natural Law.
The same distinction applies to all of "science". Descriptive scientists describe, accurately and appropriately, how various types of things and animals behave. Prescriptive scientists begin with arbitrary and generally delusional ideas about how things and animals SHOULD behave, and apply these insane rules by force to ALL things.
The conventional structure of hypothesis and experiment belongs to the Prescriptive school. When you start with an arbitrary idea of how the object should behave, you (and your granting agency) will not accept a valid Description. The experiments must agree with your initial craziness. If not, you will
literally move heaven and earth to make them agree.
When these two types are DESCRIBED, accurately and appropriately, the conclusion is obvious.
Most of our publicly visible "science" is violent and LITERALLY OMNICIDAL insanity. In a sane society its practitioners would be instantly executed.
Plenty of real Descriptive scientists are practicing in fields like Materials and Engineering and Medicine and some narrow pieces of Biology. Looking about them, taking hold of what is here, and letting it talk to them. We don't listen to these real scientists and don't obey them. We only obey the violent lunatics because the violent lunatics have taken control of governments and media by force because they are violent lunatics.

Irrelevant sidenote: There's a beautiful Self-Explanatory Sentence in the
grammar link above, in the author's third 'bullet point'. I can't tell if it's intentional or not; it's just a bit too perfect to be accidental.
