  Wolf has fun with Zillow

Wolf is having fun with Zillow's stupid AI-based failure. They bought 35k houses at the peak of a wildly distorted bubble, and now they're trying to unload 7k of the houses at a serious loss.

Zillow decided to go into the house-flipping business by remote control. They trusted their AI to tell them what each house should bring, and then engaged flipping crews by remote control.

There are plenty of lessons in this failure. Some of them are so universally obvious they don't even count as lessons. You're supposed to buy low and sell high, not buy high and sell low. Remote control doesn't work.

The computer stuff is obvious to programmers. Silicon Valley arrogance trusts software more than ANYTHING else. If you have software you don't need knowledge or common sense.

AI, which is just a very big abacus, is supposed to acquire magical powers from its size. Programmers know that the abacus can only do what you order it to do. Zillow made a HUMAN decision to buy high, and then programmed their abacus to justify their HUMAN decision. A simulation or model can be pushed and pulled in any desired direction by choosing the assumptions and setting the weights. Above all, a simulation that predicts unlimited exponential growth is IMPOSSIBLE.

As usual, one commenter hits the mark perfectly and tersely:

I just can’t get over the irony of a business built on predicting home prices attributing its setbacks to “home pricing unpredictability.”

Nature works whether you "believe" it or not

The wokesters are decolonizing the names of Darwin and Huxley, two of the founders of their secular "science".

Removing names and statues is a perfect example of real natural selection and real genes in action.

1. Natural selection, of course, was perfectly well known before it was branded by Darwin. It's negative feedback. Nature doesn't allow linear or exponential curves. Feedback always places a ceiling on any activity. A predator who eats too much food will use up the food and starve. In this case the wokies are intellectual predators, eating up the intellectual food of their founders and mentors. After Darwin is unspeakable, how do you continue MISusing his doctrines to justify your eugenic and genocidal crimes?

2. Genes exist whether you believe in them or not. Orthodox fashion-followers are a specific genotype, always present. The wokies don't believe in genes. They apply tabula rasa to everything. You can pick your own gender and race. The wokies are also rigid fashion-followers. They are canceling their own fashion-following ancestors for the "sin" of following the fashionable intellectual trends of an earlier century. Darwin applied clear thinking to animals and plants, but didn't question his current orthodoxy when thinking about early human species. Darwinists continue to express the same peculiar genotype, applying objective rules to non-humans while considering Neanderthals to be niggers or rednecks or antivaxers, according to current fashion.

  Three missed points

Via MindMatters as usual, THREE pointmisses at once. A minor pointmiss by the author, then two MAJOR pointmisses by Brendan Eich. Not really surprising, just frustrating. Eich is trying to head in the right direction but doesn't have a good compass. Or else he's just a false flag. I can't tell and I don't really give a fuck.

= = = = =

First pointmiss:
“The control our search engines have over us is very sneaky,” says Nathan Jacobson, web developer and designer at the Discovery Institute. “It’s not obvious. When you go to The New York Times, you know the editors have chosen a certain set of subjects to cover, articles to share, they’ve selected certain writers to employ, so it’s kind of understood that you’re getting an intentional experience. The information that’s being fed to you is not all the information. It’s a carefully selected subset of information.”

In other words, the common assumption is that Google is a neutral library of information when in reality, it’s just as much a curator of information as The New York Times.
No. Libraries are NOT neutral. Librarians have the same mindset as Google and NYTimes. This is FEROCIOUSLY OBVIOUS on the reading end, and I've seen it on the writing end as well. In 1998 I was a regular customer at the downtown library. They knew me. After publishing my first courseware, I proudly donated a copy of the college textbook to the library. The librarian treated it like a dead mouse. She snooted her head upward, gave me the standard aristocratic veiled eyes and imperceptible headshake, picked up the textbook at extreme arm's length, and said "This will go into our annual book sale." Didn't even bother to pretend that it was suitable for the shelves.

Google is actually MORE neutral than libraries. It does include content from unfashionable sources, whether it prioritizes them or not. You're reading the proof. I've been writing this blog for 16 years on a Google-based platform. I'm unfashionable on all topics. Google has never censored what I write.

= = = = =

Second pointmiss:
Enter new search engine competitor, Brave Search. Unlike the other search engine alternatives that pull from the same English language indexes created by Google and Bing, Brave Search runs off of its own index, the third in existence in the English-speaking world.

Google remains dominant for now. Brave Search is hardly as well-known as Google and will need to do some work in the public awareness arena. Additionally, Google remains the better engine to use when it comes to niche searches. Nevertheless, Brave Search is already a strong alternative and expected to grow stronger.
Eich is totally missing the Booker T rule. When you're the small low-status competitor, you have to FIND A NICHE AND STICK TO IT. You're NOT going to beat Google at its own game. You're NOT going to be the first choice for people who want the latest celebrity crap and partisan political crap. Eich is making the Abernethy error, losing the ACHIEVABLE niches to aim for the IMPOSSIBLE mainstream.

= = = = =

Third pointmiss:

Eich's Brave browser advertises privacy, allegedly protecting your account from data robbery or whatever. This is a fake concern in the first fucking place. Privacy is impossible. One browser is allegedly protecting your data while everything else is not protecting you. Closing one window doesn't help when all the other windows and doors are stuck open.

So how will the Brave search engine protect your privacy?
Jacobson explains that, building on its acquisition of Tailcat, Brave Search is “anonymously leveraging users’ computers to crawl the web and contribute to its index.” Maintaining an index of the web is a “massive undertaking” considering how much new content is posted online every twenty-four hours.
Jesus! Brave will protect your privacy by invading your computer and turning it into a bot. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I thought the purpose of AV was to PREVENT malware from turning your computer into a bot. (Incidentally, this fits into the War On X theme. The War On Hackers makes more hacking, not less hacking.)

= = = = =

Emersonian footnote: After linking the Library Association website to reference their obvious mindset, I skimmed the website. They're focusing heavily on e-learning now, because e-learning enables them to keep ALL ORANGE WITCH-BREATH DEPLORABLES out of their lives. Too bad, nasty vile arrogant haughty bigoted bitch. You tossed out one of the FIRST examples of user-friendly courseware. The 1998 dead mouse turned out to be your Lord and Savior in 2020, because it was rebranded by your fellow demons.

Caste is everything. Content is nothing.

  A little natural justice

The fearmongers are screeching louder and louder because nobody is listening. There's no such thing as accountability, and no chance of "legal" justice. We'll never get a Nuremberg trial because there are no victorious allies.

Still, natural justice sometimes works via money.

A chart from one of the fact-gatherers:

Norm seems to be 40% down from last year. That's a bankruptcy-size decline for businesses that run mainly on debt. Vanity toys like WaPo can sustain it, because super-rich fuckheads like Bezos have infinite resources.

This shouldn't have been surprising. When you tie your ENTIRE existence to FUCK TRUMP, and TRUMP disappears, your reason for existence disappears.

I noted this problem in 2017:

= = = = = START REPRINT:

I read an article about Pininfarina's 1961 dream car, the Jacqueline. Pininfarina was trying to get Cadillac to make the car, and the name (as in Jackie Kennedy) was meant to be part of the appeal.

It was a DAMNED PRETTY car, but GM didn't bite. It's clear from actual results, if not from written history, that AMC did bite on the styling. The perfectly pretty 1963 Rambler clearly follows the same lines, and the timing is about right. Ed Anderson gets full credit for the '63. I doubt it. His previous "own" designs were clumsy, and his previous designs with official help from Pininfarina were pretty. So the influence, official or otherwise, seems like a good bet.

Naming cars after people other than the company founder has always been a jinx, so it's easy to see why nobody picked up the name.

Around 1930 Marmon named its sub-luxury car the Roosevelt, after Teddy. Just in time for the other Roosevelt to become a hissing and a byword to Marmon customers. A little later Studie named its new cheap car the Rockne, after Knute. Just in time for Knute to get killed in a plane crash.

This should have been an obvious marketing error. Politics and football are team sports, with passionate fans and anti-fans for each politician or coach. When you pick one side you automatically lose the anti-fans as customers, even though they might have liked the car.

So we don't have a Cadillac Ivanka or a Chevy Nixon or a Ford Paterno.

Lincoln is a major exception to the rule. I guess the jinx doesn't apply with people who are far enough in the past that they have fossilized into household words. It certainly applies to people who are alive at the time of the naming, because living people can surprise you.

= = = = = END REPRINT.

Media were also making another mistake BY THEIR OWN STANDARDS. A plot in soap opera runs for six months. When FOX and CNN turned "news" to soap opera in 1990, they continued the rule. A major story always ran for six months. This one has gone on without any change for 18 months, so it shouldn't be surprising that the people have moved on.

  AIER misses one point

AIER has republished a detailed FACTUAL STATEMENT about muzzles, originally published in a standard medical journal, and written by an unusually credentialed author. He works at the VA, the same place that started the lockdowns.

The author hits all the important points, including recirculation of microbes ruining immunity, which (ahem) some people noticed a long fucking time ago.

The author hits the mental and emotional toll of muzzles heavily, as he should. Emotional destruction is the PURPOSE of ballgags. Oddly he misses one important perceptual problem.

Muzzles cut off the lower third of your visual field.

You can't see what you're doing or where you're going. So far I've managed to avoid tripping over things or falling in the ballgag-forced satanic zones, but there have been many close calls, especially when boarding a bus from an icy sidewalk.

It's pretty clear that Biden was suffering from the same problem when he fell while going up the airplane stairs. Emersonian justice is satisfying, but the lesson should be the same regardless of karma.

Before 2020, one family gagging its kids or grandparents to avoid witchcraft would have been singled out and imprisoned and nationally shamed for a year on all the media. The FBI would raid and obliterate all "compounds" of all relatives and acquaintances, and every religious and political connection of the horrible family would be mercilessly "contact traced" and bombed down to bedrock.

Now we're imprisoned and shamed for NOT committing child abuse and elder abuse.

  Emerson vs Blood Money

Emerson says that undeserved money should be paid out as fast as possible.

I received a mysterious card in the mail which apparently represents the $2000 blood money from the federal demons. I don't need or want this money, so it goes out BEFORE it goes in.

The previous blood money in May went to a couple of local charities. Since then I've seen that the Spokane government is an eager participant in Mad Bomber Inslee's holocaust, so I won't help anyone here. All local businesses have worked with the Mad Bomber. None have offered even token fake resistance.

You chose not to help us, we choose not to help you.

Moving money around is the only TINY MICROSCRAP of power that ordinary people still have, so we need to use it.

So I sent $2000 to the dog sanctuary in Tennessee. Mostly just paying for value. I get joy and comfort from watching their videos. Partly because Tennessee is a sane state, and likely to remain sane. Tenn Gov Lee has been holding firm and preventing cities from imposing their own muzzle mandates. I can see in the OFSDS clips that their employees are unmuzzled, so the reality is verified. Taxes and other secondary outputs from my donation will go to support a sane governor.

Later, after "activating" the mysterious card, turns out I only got $600 blood money instead of the $2000 implied by the letter. That's fine. Emerson recommended overpaying.

From an extremely different era 14

Lindsay MacHarrie's Can you imagine that is broadly similar to Hix's Strange as it seems. MacHarrie didn't have a large staff, so he wasn't able to write and dramatize history and science on the same scale as Hix. MacHarrie did communicate the same courtesy and RESPECT for ordinary people, especially Southerners.

Can you imagine American media respecting Deplorables? It was common in the '30s.

In this episode, a historical anecdote demonstrates RESPECT for work and skill, also common in '30s media and extinct today.

Andrew Johnson was governor of Tennessee before he accidentally ended up as president. And before he went into politics he was a tailor. He was trained by involuntary servitude in chains, which wasn't unusual for poor whites. This form of slavery was still common in 1900.

While governor, Johnson received a gift of fireplace tools from a judge who had been a blacksmith. The judge had made the tools with his own hands on his own forge. So Johnson found out what size the judge wore, and made a suit for the judge with his own hands.

Pay for REAL value with REAL value. Emerson (who was writing at that time) would certainly understand.

= = = = =

Later, here's the story as written in Sat Eve Post in 1929, probably MacHarrie's source.
It seems that Judge Pepper had been a blacksmith before studying law and being later elevated to the circuit bench. When his friend Andrew Johnson was elected Governor of Tennessee Judge Pepper went into a nearby blacksmith shop, selected iron to his own liking, and with forge and hammer made a substantial pair of shovel and tongs for his friend's gubernatorial fireplace. Not to be behind courtesy, Governor Johnson got a tailor to give him Pepper's measurements, selected the best piece of black broadcloth in town, and sat cross-legged on the governor's table in the State capitol behind closed doors at night till he finished the garment. His letter to Judge Pepper, covering two long pages, is typical. He reminded his friend that he was "a mechanic, a plebeian mechanic, and not ashamed or afraid to own it, in or out of office." He cited a list of great artisans and mechanics "from Adam and Tubal-Cain down to the present time," and showed how much more praiseworthy they were than those "who have no merit of their own and rely on those who have gone before, preferring empty shadows where all merit has run out."

Thanks Ralph 136, double negative edition

A lesson from previous crazy times when inquisitors and witch hunters were in total control.

When NOBODY is doing the right thing, you have to look for good results from bad actions. Emerson.

The statue-pullers and rioters are doing a lot of damage to property, but they're also weakening some of the foundations of globalism. The wokeites are weakening the power of theories in academia, which is a purely good thing. Math that serves "social justice" is annoying, but it's a lot closer to Real World Math than the existing paradigm of math serving only the abstract mathematicians.

Here's an example I hadn't heard of before.
It is the work of a music theorist to identify the building blocks of music, such as melody, harmony, and rhythm, and to reveal their organizational principles. As teachers, we seek to illuminate the mysteries behind how great works of art are composed, so others might use those tools to find their own artistic voices. As analysts, we look for patterns in music and seek to interpret their meanings for a fuller, more nuanced understanding of musical works.

Both identity and politics have played major roles in musical expression throughout history, but “identity politics” in the music theory field today is not about revealing how they are communicated in the music. Instead, it has become a belief that there is a fixed amount of intellectual space in the music theory world, and that fixed space has too many white males in it. It is a belief that the only way to achieve equity in music theory is to silence not just “problematic” voices but to diminish entire “problematic” modes of thinking. This is a false and immoral belief.
Music theory has never helped anyone to "find their own artistic voices". The only way to find your voice is to USE it, ideally with guidance from an experienced trainer. Music theory, like ALL THEORY, has corrupted art and science. If the woke version of music theory eliminates the funding for this totally useless fake "discipline", it will do some good in a double-negative way.

EXPERIENCE SURVIVES. THEORY KILLS.

  When to walk away

Helping the enemy is not the way to fight. Standing back CAN be a way to fight, but you have to know WHEN to stand back.

For a long time many of the "fighters" on the side of tradition and Natural Law have "fought" by standing back at the wrong time.

The oldest example is judicial restraint, where the conservative side of the "courts" battles the radical monsters by letting the monsters set all the precedents that become permanent law. How is this fighting? If you know that you DON'T have the power to halt the precedent, you might as well save your energy. But often the conservative side DOES have the power to halt the bad precedent, and still fails to use it. Most likely the conservatives are just fakers, Pied Pipers.

Now we're seeing the same idiocy in some opponents of Cancel Culture, who say that free speech for everyone is the best way to fight the cancelers. Nonsense.

First, free speech is a meaningless concept. Never existed. Censorship is universal, and our duty is to USE it or LET IT HAPPEN when it helps our side.

Today's example is from Nelson at Evolution News. Big Atheist Dawkins is getting bit by the same cancelers he leads. For decades Dawkins has been a major voice for censorship. Now his followers are turning against him because he opposes Islam along with Christianity.

Everyone in this particular dispute is utterly stupid. Dawkins opposes Islam based on a bizarre set of ancient prejudices and misunderstandings, and his followers favor Islam based on a bizarre set of modern prejudices and misunderstandings. Neither side is using facts.

Nelson thinks that "free speech" exists, and thinks that we should maintain the purity of "free speech" by blocking Natural Justice.

Permanent fact: Witch hunts end when the burners get burned.

Nelson wants us to support a petition in aid of "free speech" for Burner Dawkins, which will prevent Natural Justice.

Natural Justice is the ONLY kind of justice still operating. Official "justice" was reversed a long time ago. Infinite evil is infinitely rewarded. Honesty is suicide.

Our duty is to answer fire with fire when we can. When we don't own the match, our duty is to stand back and let Natural Justice work.

= = = = =

Irrelevant sidenote on Natural Justice: Demon Newsom and Demon Inslee and many of the demonic scientists are continuing to run the "global warming" genocide simultaneous with the "virus" holocaust. The two are mutually exclusive. Many of the provisions in the Holy Phases and Subphases of the "virus" holocaust force people to use cars instead of walking or public transit. Restaurants and stores are supposed to switch PERMANENTLY to drive-thru mode, and we're supposed to avoid public transit. These changes leave walkers and non-drivers out in the cold, and strongly encourage drivers to spend far more time driving and idling. The earlier anti-smoking witch hunt had the same effect, since cars are the only place you can smoke safely.

  Silly question

Alleged "study" headlined at RCS: Did Neanderthals live in caves?

Simple answer: Where caves are usable, EVERYONE lives in caves. The early settlers in Kansas took advantage of plentiful caves along the Kaw, where the river had carved under a limestone layer. Some of those caves were just indentations at the base of a bluff, others were deep and spacious. Most were used at one time or another. The biggest ones have been turned into a complete underground city beneath parts of KCK and KCMO.

I saluted one of the 'indentation' caves in my Cave Gas blog item and Poser set.

Speaking of Manhattan and limestone, the Kimble Castle is for sale right now. Only $1.5 million. (That's a genuine 'only'; the property is worth a LOT more by any rational standard.)

I used to walk past the Castle on the way to school and always wondered what it was like inside. Unfortunately Zillow didn't satisfy my curiosity about the original innards because the Castle has been "updated" with all the latest rich fuckhead crap. The original innards were long gone anyway. For most of the 20th century the Castle was subdivided into student apts.

= = = = =

Irrelevant sidenote: I called it Kedzie Castle at first. Didn't seem right, felt like I was conflating it with Kedzie Hall on campus, which was also a castle; but I didn't know for sure. Checked KSHS, found Kimble Castle. Sure enough I was conflating two similar castles with similar names. Edited to correct. While searching KSHS, another K* Castle showed up, with a beautiful example of Emersonian Justice. The story of Knox Castle in Topeka:
Here are two photographs and an illustration from Saturday Evening Lance showing the exterior of John D. Knox's "Belvoir" home in Topeka, Kansas. The house was built in 1884 at the north end of Potwin on a 7-acre tract of land between Woodlawn and Elmwood Avenues and facing Grove Avenue. The rambling three-story structure--also known as Knox's Castle--cost $40,000 to build. John D. Knox, a Methodist minister, was employed by the Kansas Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He arrived in Topeka, Kansas in 1865 and started preaching at the First Methodist Church. Knox discovered he had a talent for making money and eventually made a fortune by buying tax sale certificates and property. By 1871, Knox was president of Capitol Bank in Topeka, resigning in 1873 to become head of John D. Knox and Co., Bankers and Loan Agents. In the mid 1890s, the United States was in the midst of a financial panic, and on August 10, 1898 the Topeka Daily Capital reported that Knox filed for bankruptcy. He lost everything except the house his family continued to live in for several years. The house, which cost $40,000 to build in 1884, was sold for $23,000 to Herman Baumer. It was demolished in 1924 and the lumber was used to build a dozen bungalows in the Belvoir Court District.
Preacher Knox got rich by profiting from bankruptcies, and then went bankrupt. Justice. Couldn't happen today, of course; rich criminals (redundant) are rewarded with trillion-dollar bailouts and continue committing even larger crimes.

  Nasty little weasel

I got tired of Assange a long time ago. Like all other "independents", he turned out to be a false-flag AP. He pretended to be "opening government", but wouldn't open his sources. The best way to protect a source is to publicize the name along with the info. When everyone knows who the source is, Deepstate has a MUCH harder job of suiciding or accidenting the source. In this specific case, the likely source was ALREADY dead, so there was no harm at all in publicity.

New info via RT:
Trump attempted to cut a deal with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, offering the wanted journalist a pardon in exchange for the source of the 2016 DNC emails. Assange refused to betray the source.

Assange’s defense revealed the pardon deal to a court in London on Friday, where the WikiLeaks founder is currently fighting extradition to the US. Should he lose, he will be tried for espionage offenses and could face 175 years behind bars.
Good. Take it up the ass, you slimy slithery snake.

  Thanks, weather gods.

Trying for a little positivity amid the unvarnished hell.

The weather gods have been the only source of MERCY for ordinary people here.

This spring was a bit stormier than usual, but no major windstorms. Best of all, the thunderstorms were PERFECTLY TIMED to wash out the "racism" rioters. Three weekends in a row they tried to get a riot going and got drenched.

This summer has been strictly normal. Lots of 70s and 80s, two weeks of 90s, two days of 100s. The 90s broke today with a soft rain, no windstorm.

Lots of sun, lots of good walking weather, and I've been taking full advantage of it. When the Suicide Masks were required in stores and buses, I changed my store trip patterns to minimize Time Under Suicide Mask and maximize walking. I've got TUSM down to exactly 24 minutes per week (from original 90), and walking up to about 12 miles a week (from previous 7).

Walking burns off anger and futility, provides a nice tan, builds up endurance and neurons, and incidentally sheds a bit of weight where it counts.

THANKS, WEATHER GODS.

  AI point-missing quickie

In MindMatters as usual. A clear-minded analysis of claims for and against self-driving cars.

One side is a good reminder TO ME that the skeptic side in the lockdown argument can get carried away with catastrophism. I'm prone to that type of thinking anyway, and I was doing it heavily at first, when it seemed clear that ALL governments were PERMANENTLY locked into lockdowns. Now it appears that the project is more of a test or selection process, determining which presidents and governors and mayors are demented and psychopathic enough to recruit for further Deepstate training. The presidents who completely failed the test (Sweden, Belarus, Japan, Korea, Turkmenistan) haven't been punished. Similarly with the few governors who have failed the test.

In fact the "failed" leaders are being richly rewarded by REALITY, with local economies that didn't collapse, and local schools and hospitals and civilizations that remained intact. The sane places will be better off for a long time, maybe forever. This isn't much comfort for those of us who are stuck in the crazy places, but it offers a vague tiny hope of spreading sanity.

= = = = =

The catastrophist side on autonomous cars says that self-driving cars will be the ideal tool for the NEXT fake emergency, since forbidden destinations can be automatically forbidden. You can't get there from here. Luckily, this can't happen because autonomous cars will never work.

So most of the article is valid, and a good self-calibrator for me.

Here's the point-miss:

There is no clear historical precedent for a society in which almost all vehicles are autonomous.

Ever hear of horses? For thousands of years all vehicles were autonomous. We've only had fully human-directed vehicles since 1920.

With regular human-directed cars, a much simpler way of controlling travel is gas rationing. It was used in WW2 for necessary and good purposes, and Nixon used it in '73 for nefarious Deepstate purposes.

  Another day? About right.

Previous item was 'Another day, another Breguet'. Pretty close to the literal truth.

I've been frantically churning out new 'courseware without a course' since the holocaust started in March. Trying to barrage the infinite evil with spiritual T-cells. Since July 1, seven separate projects, each involving some research and understanding along with forming up and animating the item:

(1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), plus one actual scientific experiment.

Lots of folks are doing the same thing. "What are you doing now" items in Facebook groups show all sorts of interesting arts and crafts. In the neighborhood, gardens and lawns are blooming and neat, and several homes have built new pretty fences or put up those little miniature library kiosks.

War always causes an artistic response. Grotesquely unnecessary and ferociously unjust wars cause the greatest artistic responses.

The best part of all is the HUGE numbers of people who have come out of passive ignorance, triggered by the "racism" riots. At that moment everyone who was capable of learning LEARNED. This holocaust has NOTHING to do with any microscopic pathogen. It's ENTIRELY caused by giant psychopathogens acting as presidents and governors and mayors and especially Public Death Officers. Worst of all, the actual virus is getting worse SPECIFICALLY because of the lockdowns and masks, along with the direct ruination of lives and culture and business and medical care.

In places with sane rulers, the virus is done, which is how viruses work. Our immune system is ALL WE NEED to fight a virus. Anything that interferes with immunity is helping the virus and helping death.

Nature always tries to balance. Fight chaos with order, fight ugliness with beauty, fight insanity with intelligence.

Later, pulled the set together and released at ShareCG.

Also later: One neighbor is leaving literal seeds, and not just in his own garden. Just before the holocaust started, the "city" dysgovernment built a set of curvy walks in the median of the boulevard, which was intended to carry an interurban in 1910. A neighbor who lives across from the median has been working every morning, bringing a little wagon full of tools and seedlings, down on his hands and knees digging and watering and establishing an almost museum-quality garden along the neglected sidewalk. Heroic work in defense of civilization. Amazingly, the "city" hasn't yet mowed it down. I'm sure they'll get around to it sooner or later. Psychopaths have finite resources, but they never let anything decent or normal remain for long.

  Somewhat mixed feelings

Influencer Julie Kelly, who is basically a standard Repooflican but has firmly taken the side of truth in the "virus" shit, wrote this nice one-liner:

Harvard is DeVry with a lower ROI.

She was talking about the report that Harvard will be entirely online next year, but will still charge $50K tuition.

Classic mixed feelings, Mother-in-law Cadillac Cliff.

On one hand, I'm HAPPY to see a standard Repooflican APPRECIATING the qualities of Experiential Education. Most of them hate training in all forms, and believe that education should consist of nothing but memorizing the Speeches Of Cicero in Latin. They have been slamming Common Core specifically because CC is experience-oriented.

Still on the same hand, I'm glad to see a specific mention of DeVry, where I taught for a few years. DeVry is sleazy in some ways, but it has always placed EXPERIENCE BEFORE THEORY.

On the other hand, the one-liner gets the math backwards. In fact the Return On Investment for Harvard is INFINITE, not zero.

Most students don't actually pay the $50K. For those who do pay, the $50K is a meaningless proportion of their income. So the investment is effectively zero, and the investment in effort is also effectively zero.

The return is MASSIVE, but it's not a Return On Investment. It's a Return On Inheritance, a return on BEING BORN to the correct Tribe. If you belong to The Tribe, you go to Harvard or Yale for a piece of paper that verifies your Tribal Membership. The piece of paper has nothing to do with the money your parents supposedly paid, which they didn't really pay anyway, and it has nothing to do with the effort you supposedly put into learning, which you didn't really put anyway.

Now that Harvard is all online, EVERYONE CAN SEE that the actual effort is zero.

This is another of those wonderful NOW I SEE moments.

  Sophisticated essay

Recently someone has found and uploaded a batch of previously unseen episodes of Mike Barnett aka Follow That Man aka Man Against Crime. I enjoy the series, so I've been eagerly watching these newly found episodes before bedtime.

In these 1952 episodes Barnett is the same actor playing the same character, but the other actors are an entirely unfamilar group, and the scripts have a different flavor from the existing episodes.

This one about a reported UFO is a remarkably sophisticated essay on Experts vs Non-Experts, credentialism, and skeptics vs useful idiots vs paid trolls. All types are represented, and much of the dialog is heard verbatim in every modern Facebook discussion.

The character who sees the UFO first is a schoolteacher volunteering in the Ground Observer Corps. He handles the trolls EXACTLY RIGHT. No arrogance, no condescension, admits his own doubts, invites them to try and see it for themselves.

At the end Barnett has exposed most of the UFO action as a hoax, but reminds us that the original sighting was verified by radar and remains unexplained. Sophisticated!

The only completely UNfamiliar part, as with this radio show from the same era, is the role of a "Newspaper Man". The "Newspaper Man" is realistic and cynical, willing to sensationalize things for profit, but unwilling to spread harmful rumors that will damage reputations or cause unneeded deaths.

Nobody performs this task in current society. We do have things called "Newspapers", but their job is the exact opposite. I don't know if the "Newspaper Man" really existed back then, or if the character is pure science fiction like the fake/unfake alien.

= = = = =

The sophistication led me to some probably OVERsophisticated thinking. Why would ALL the Public Death Officers and ALL the doctors in the world agree to ruin their own authority as Experts forever? Before the "racism" riots, a handful of fools were still believing what the PDOs and MDs said about this alleged "virus". Now everyone knows that everything said by PDOs and doctors is not just false but genocidally holocaustally false. It's hard to imagine a blackmail threat strong enough to influence ALL of these experts to destroy their own authority. Kill a few million people? Sure. Easy. No persuasion needed. Delete your own credentials? Not so easy.

Given the basic fact that Deepstate always plans and intends all consequences, this ruination of credentials must have been part of the purpose, along with ruining all the people and governments and economies and cultures in the world.

Was there a specific reason for this total destruction of expertise? Was there a real decision by PDOs and doctors on some unrelated subject, perhaps a trivial subject, that needed to be pre-emptively canceled? A decision about a pharmaceutical product that would change its Share Value by a few cents to cover a Soros short? Or is the destruction of authority just part of Soros's bucket list?

= = = = =

Later, after sleep and walk, a much less sophisticated and more VALID thought. Whether the PDOs and Doctors of Murder intended to crash their own credentials is not the proper point. The proper point is that THESE CREDENTIALS HAVE BEEN FRAUDULENT FOR MANY MANY MANY YEARS. NOW WE SEE THAT THEY ARE FAKERS AND FRAUDS AND QUACKS.

This is PURE EMERSONIAN JUSTICE. The murderous frauds and genocidal quacks have showed everyone what they are. Now we're free to find NON-MURDEROUS healers, whether Naturopaths or Chiropractors or Hindu Acupuncturists or whatever. Repeating something I wrote a few years ago but forgot in the idiot passion and panic of the moment:

= = = = = START REPRINT:

How do you know which side of a "debate" is good?

"Scientists" jail you for questioning "science".

Astrologers don't jail you for questioning astrology.

MDs force you to follow orders by withholding life-sustaining prescriptions. (In any other context this would be called extortion.)

Alternative healers don't force you to do anything.

Social "scientists" design and operate torture chambers.

Psychics and faith healers don't.

Non-smokers jail you for smoking in the wrong place.

Smokers don't jail you for not smoking.

Bankers jail you for using cash.

Goldbugs don't jail you for using debit cards.

Globalists bomb you for questioning the Empire.

Localists don't bomb you for being a globalist.

The non-jailing and non-bombing and non-interventionist side of each debate is good. The jailing side is bad. Jailoleth.

= = = = = END REPRINT.

  Normally, not normally

Normally this part of Spokane is pretty quiet on July 4. One or two bangs at midnight. This year it's wildly noisy, with BIG bangs all over the place.

Normally I HATE the bangs. This year I LOVE the bangs, because I know what they're saying.

They're not celebrating a meaningless abstraction that happened 200 years ago; they're actually DECLARING INDEPENDENCE (though only briefly) from Mad Bomber Inslee and Public Death Officer Lutz and Murderess Woodward.

They're saying HERE'S WHAT WE THINK OF YOUR LAWS, now that you have used your laws to destroy our jobs and health and souls and civilization.

They're saying FUCK YOU UP THE ASS, INSLEE AND LUTZ AND WOODWARD!

We are live human beings with souls and purposes and immune systems. We do not exist solely to satisfy your power fetish and your death fetish and your ballgag fetish. If we're going to be your bitches, we should be paid for it, at market rates for high-end escorts.

MORE BANGS!

Here's a 45 second recording from inside the house. This went on for about 3 hours, gradually fading at midnight.

= = = = =

Later: According to Ginn on Twitter, the same thing was happening in many circles of Hell, sending the same message to the holocaustal psychopaths who are killing us.

Now we can expect a monstrous SUPERMURDEROUS SUPERBANG by the holocausters on Monday. Count on it. Maybe they'll finally drop all the cloaks and pretenses about "viruses" and "health". Maybe they'll just go ahead and spray Zyklon B over all Deplorable Zones, like they've been intending and planning from the start.

  Nature always wins

Continuing on the theme of Tanh vs Exp again. It's scary as hell when the whole world believes in Exp. Nobody is even trying to give suckers an even break. Everyone in power is trying to go exponential, to wipe out the rest of the universe. There is no counteracting bullypower, no unions, no insurers, no Mutual Benefit Associations, no Mafia. Governments stopped constraining bankers in the '80s, and governments are now supporting rioters and mobs.

Even so, Tanh ultimately wins. Everything hits a barrier of negative feedback ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

Example: Mobs pulling down statues. "Conservative" Deepstate puppets are stirring up pointless outrage at the "liberal" Deepstate puppets. The outrage will not stop the mobs. In fact the outrage will STRENGTHEN the mobs, which is exactly why Deepstate wants it.

Statues aren't jobs or schools or lives. They're pieces of bronze. Why waste OUR energy on the outrage? It's much better to let the mobs waste THEIR energy. Energy is finite. After the orgasm, sanity has a chance. Some members of the mob will realize they have pulled down a piece of bronze that nobody was NOTICING in the first place. Most of them will move on to the next assignment by Deepstate, because Deepstate runs on Parkinson. Failure justifies greater failure, exponentially to infinity. But some of them will rethink their devotion to a pointless task. [Update two months later: Sure enough, the statue-pullers gave up quickly. The outrage was completely unnecessary.]

Trying to see the positive... The riots DID fade out here, thanks to careful policing plus a little help from the weather gods. After three weekends of gradually decreasing "protests", this weekend had no "protests".

Civilization functions when GOVERNMENT tries to give suckers an even break, as Harding and FDR did.

But when government has abandoned civilization, the basic limits of nature are still there.

Emerson:
Nature hates monopolies and exceptions. The varieties of conditions tend to equalize themselves. There is always some leveling circumstance that puts down the overbearing, the strong, the rich, the fortunate. Things refuse to be mismanaged long. Though no checks to a new evil appear [at first], the checks exist and will appear.

= = = = =

Important: If insurers were still doing their job, they would already be the best countervector to the "virus" holocaust. A smart insurer would write a group liability policy for sane people, guaranteeing instant lawsuits, plus "private investigator" blackmail, against any corporation or government or school system that forced you to damage your own immune system with masks and lockdowns and distancing and unemployment. If the insurer was large enough and rich enough and nasty enough, the corporations and governments would soon back down.

= = = = =

Later thought: I suppose the riots themselves can be considered as an Emersonian equipoise to the lockdowns, at least in terms of public awareness. All REAL science was immediately and constantly and perfectly opposed to the lockdowns, as I've been tiresomely repeating since Feb 27. But the REAL science wasn't publicly visible until the riots. A perfectly balanced esperiment, an ultimate test of the hypothesis. Thousands of people gathering in close crowds without masks, breathing heavily and shouting and exerting. Four weeks later, none of them have died. Now everyone knows the REAL science about viruses. The knowledge doesn't matter to the psychopaths; it just gives them another reason to kill us all. Of course the fact that we exist is already sufficient reason, since the psychopath's sole purpose is to eradicate everything outside his own universe-consuming body.

  The Karens are in charge

Three items from today's SpokaneNews:

East Main and North Woodlawn Rd, Commercial Structure Fire Reported. #Update no fire, it was a trucks exhaust.

9600 North Wickiup, reported bear in a tree. Law enforcement as well as fish and wildlife responding #Update officers on scene reporting it's a raccoon, not a bear. -CS

1700 South Grand, at Manito Park. Reported 19 people playing volleyball and hugging while not social distancing. -CS

Epidemic of Karenitis. Mistaking ordinary events for GIANT DISASTERS and reporting them to the authorities. Fucking snitches.

After an enemy occupation is over, collaborators traditionally get unofficial justice. I hope the tradition still holds.

  Irrelevant venting

Just venting a couple of related but totally irrelevant annoyances. One is current, one isn't.

1. Some of the commentators on the current tyranny consider genocidal monsters like Inslee and Newsom to be nerds gaining revenge on jocks. Not a good diagnosis. Nerds and politicians are distinct types from birth. Politicians are smart and get good grades, but they don't spend all their time doing science and math crap. Politicians spend their time exerting power. They don't need to gain revenge on jocks because they have always been allied with jocks against nerds.

2. I was uneasy about Jordan Peterson's motives. He smelled like an Agent Provocateur or a cult leader. He was pulling in alienated nerd types, telling them to BE INDEPENDENT! TAKE IT LIKE A MAN! This is a good goal but not the first task on the todo list for alienated nerds. The first task is to find a productive job. After you gain experience in using your skills productively, independence and confidence come naturally. Unfortunately productive jobs have been hard to find in recent years because of offshoring. Productive jobs will be beyond impossible now. Simultaneously Peterson was getting the followers to DEPEND on his guidance. This is the same trick that feminists pulled in the '60s and '70s, advising alienated young women to seek independence in a way that guaranteed failure and dependence on the feminist leaders. I never did figure out his motives, but fortunately he disappeared from leadership after it was revealed that he was a drug addict. Telling the nerds to TAKE IT LIKE A MAN while he was TAKING IT IN THE ARM. This is an extremely rare example of real Natural Justice, outside of the "legal" "system".
