Overripe mirrorsThe latest CIA release from Wikileaks is just plain FUN. Assange has the GOODS on Deepstate, and can parry every thrust by CIA.
Like all previous revelations, this isn't surprising. I know from direct experience that CIA has a longstanding habit of masking its sting operations as "Soviet fronts" or "Birchers". The "Chinese" and "Islamic" fronts are newer options following the same method. [Later for clarity: Some of these spies or radicals do exist in real life, especially the Chinese; but the more visible manifestations are usually CIA or FBI false flags.]
BUT: Thinking in hall-of-mirrors style, this is too much fun. The code is right out there in good straightforward C++, and I can 'run' it by eyeball easily.
This smells like overripe low-hanging fruit.
If I wanted to write a source-obscurer for spooks, I wouldn't want the source code for the source-obscurer to be so nice and eyeballable. I'd want several levels of obscurity in the source code for the source-obscurer. The original would be written directly in hex opcodes for the CPU, and the original would never be on disk or paper. I'd write it in RAM, set it loose, then smash the RAM. I'm sure real spooks could take the obscurity a dozen levels deeper than I can.
Counterthought: It's certainly possible that CIA has grown sloppy and cocky after several decades of controlling everything via two forms of blackmail: monetary threats by bankers and threats of violence by Sharpton and Soros NGOs. When you feel absolutely protected, you tend to stop locking your doors. This angle feels less likely but could be true.
Constants and variables, screaming edition
Listening to a dramatic piece by Liszt, obviously designed to display his own virtuosity on stage. Got thinking about those piano and violin virtuosos of the 1800s. Liszt, Paganini, Gottschalk. All had long leonine hair, all loved to toss the hair around while playing, all had screaming teenybopper fans.
Classical music was called longhair music because of these dudes.
Cut to 1960. More male performers with screaming teenybopper fans, more long hair. By now the association with classical was obsolete, so longhair music became rock.
Cut to 1980. More male performers with screaming teenybopper fans, more long hair. By now the association with rock was obsolete, so longhair music became heavy metal.
One big exception: 1940, Frank Sinatra. He never let his hair grow, and never tossed any part of his body around. Just stood in one place and sang, and still got screaming teenybopper fans. Was he significantly better than the performers before and after him, or was long hair simply unthinkable in 1940?
Constants and variables, stupid old geezer edition
For several months I've been noticing an odd smell sometimes. The sometimesness argued against crawl-space mold or drains. I know those smells and can spot them near the appropriate source. This smell seemed to be around the part of the room where I sit to use the computer. It seemed organic, not electrical or smoldery.
Was it me? Always hard to tell, but it didn't seem to vary with before/after shower or before/after brushing teeth. It seemed to be weaker inside my clothes than outside. Was it the clothes? Again hard to tell.
Finally I noticed that the smell was especially strong for a while, then it stopped entirely. Okay. What did I do BETWEEN those intervals?
Figured it out. During this LONG winter my back was hurting from shoveling and raking snow, so I developed the 'efficient' habit of putting chewed gum here........
... and waiting for two or three pieces to accumulate before hauling them to the kitchen wastebasket along with filling the coffeecup. The sudden cessation of smell came immediately after hauling two pieces to the kitchen.
What is RIGHT NEXT TO THE GUM? The inlet for the computer's cooling fan, which was spreading the smell all over the room.
MTBF
How many wiggles does an eardrum make during its lifetime? There's no way to pin it down, but my predictable little life makes it somewhat easier to estimate. Because I've always had tinnitus, I've always avoided silence. A radio or an OTR clip is playing in the background most of the time, asleep or awake.
I loaded a typical OTR program (a Ripley's episode with good clear unclipped sound) into Audacity and ran a spectrum on a long stretch including male and female voices and music. The spectrum showed a definite peak around 500 cps, so we'll take that as representative.
I'm 67 years old. I started noticing tinnitus and adding noise around age 7. There were a few scattered years when I had to use earplugs instead of background because of noisy neighbors. So we'll take 50 years of full-time sound as a low estimate and a round number.
One day of 500 cps = 86400 seconds * 500 cycles per second = 43,200,000 eardrum wiggles in a day. A year endures 15.7 billion wiggles, and 50 years sum up to 788 billion wiggles overall. Still going strong. Other parts of the auditory system are aging, but not from mechanical motion.
How many mechanical systems can handle a trillion moves without failing? Living tissue wins.
Of course the comparison is totally unfair in one way. All the stuff around me has been exposed to the same sound, and the more flexible objects (cardboard, window glass, sheet metal) have been vibrating in the same tiny amplitude as the eardrum for the same period of time, without being affected in the slightest. The real distinction is not the movement itself but the maintenance of precisely calibrated parameters in the auditory system. The tympanic membrane and the three ossicles have held the same damping and elasticity through a trillion wiggles.
More idiocy
More idiotic distraction. Trump is pointlessly threatening to alter libel laws.
In the first fucking place THERE ISN'T A FEDERAL LIBEL LAW that can be changed. Libel and defamation are subject to lawsuits, and court practice varies by state and varies over time. So the threat is pointless and ignorant.
Second, our problem ISN'T LIBEL. It's total monopoly ownership and monopoly control of the media. The top dogs are owned by foreign satanic demons like Carlos Slim and Rupert Murdoch, or infinitely rich satanic demons like Bezos. The owners don't need customers or advertisers at all. They can't be reached by normal lawsuits or commercial pressures. No feedback.
Under the top dogs, all media outlets obey Soros directly or indirectly. Their sources are either DNC or Soros NGOs or CIA.
The solution must include breaking up the monopolies through antitrust laws and prohibition of foreign ownership. Return all media to local COMMERCIAL control. Dems have been hammering on this for a decade. If the solution hits foreigner Murdoch and foreigner Slim equally, the Dems can't properly complain. You asked for it, why don't you want it now?
Nature wants openness
Big rule: It's always better to get the facts out in the open. Not only to collapse the value of blackmail, but because everything works better when everyone has the facts. Localism is better served by openness.
Consider: The Trump admin is working in opposite directions on two scientific subjects, and Big Science is resisting in opposite directions because Big Science is blindly bigoted and infinitely stupid.
On "Climate Change", Trump is pushing EPA to open up its data.
On "Animal Rights", Trump is pushing USDA to close its inspection records.
Big Science has vested blackmail interests in keeping climate crime private. That's easy and obvious.
Big Science normally opposes "Animal Rights" activists because "Animal Rights" activists sabotage research facilities along with slaughterhouses. In this case Big Science loves the "Animal Rights" activists because they're against Trump, and everything Trump does is wrong by bigoted definition. Inconsistent with normal vested interests but consistent with infinite evil.
Looking at both issues from a populist viewpoint, Trump is correct on opening EPA, wrong on closing USDA records.
"Climate Change" is an explicitly globalist project from the start. CIA, leftists, bankers. The globalist tripod. Its goal is to eliminate all industries where an ordinary man can MAKE THINGS, so that all the world's economy can be in the filthy hands of bankers and all the world's power can be in the filthy hands of CIA. Opening EPA records will help to break the blackmail that keeps "Climate Change" going. We already know from the 2009 leaks that the experts are criminals. Opening all records will continue to show the same.
The latest stage of industrial farming is also globalist. Farming needs some degree of mass production in a modern country, but cattle and hogs and eggs have been tremendously overcentralized in the last few decades. This extreme centralization uses cheap labor and eliminates the SKILLS of real farmers and ranchers. Centralized production is also fragile and hackable. A virus that spreads through one facility can shut down most of the hog or egg production for the whole country. This has happened several times in recent years.
If USDA inspections are open to people who understand the problem, farm policy can wisely turn away from this extreme unskilled fragile situation, returning to the more rational level of mass production we had in 1970. More jobs, more skill, more widespread prosperity in rural areas, less vulnerability.
Ike was better than I thought!
I was doing the usual combox quibble thing with an article at Taki. The author wrote:
Low taxes, supporting Israel, and nation building totally works (it’s only fitting that Eisenhower Republicans see the world as if it’s still 1955).
While writing a standard combox quibble (Ike was for HIGH taxes and NON-intervention) I looked up the Suez thing. I vaguely remembered that Ike had refused to participate. The specifics are more interesting. The Suez thing started with Israel invading Egypt, helped by Britain and France. Ike halted the war by refusing to help, and by applying financial pressure against Britain. Why did he halt the war, essentially working on the same side as Russia?
From wikipedia:
The Soviet threat to send troops to Egypt to fight the Allies led Eisenhower to fear that this might be the beginning of World War III. In private, Eisenhower told Under Secretary of State Herbert Hoover Jr. of his fears that:
The Soviet Union might be ready for to undertake any wild adventure. They are as scared and furious as Hitler was in his last days. There's nothing more dangerous than a dictatorship in that frame of mind.
Think of Syria this year. Russia is halting an invasion by Israel, Britain, France and US because OUR empire is dangerously reckless. We've already shown that we are perfectly ready to invade and bomb any country that is stable and civilized, because our bosses Israel and Soros love chaos and hate civilization.
Same script, slightly different characters. Israel, Britain and France are the same, US and Russia are reversed. This time Putin is Ike.
= = = = =
Next day: Trump's people may finally be turning toward Ike after two months of seamless BushObama regime-change lunacy. Both Haley and Tillerson have explicitly abandoned the BushObama insistence that Assad must be removed.
"Our priority is no longer to sit there and focus on getting Assad out," Ambassador Nikki Haley told a small group of reporters on Thursday. "Our priority is to really look at how do we get things done, who do we need to work with to really make a difference for the people in Syria."
Who do we need to work with? We need to work with Russia, fuckhead. Ignore the Soros torpedoes and DO THE RIGHT FUCKING THING.
You won the election by promising to work with Russia when it's helpful. Since you won, the people who LOST have been accusing you of keeping your promise. Okay, show them that they're right. Keep your promise. Save millions of lives. The people who LOST aren't going to love you no matter what you do. Surrendering won't slow them down, it will only make them push harder.
May shows the way
Trump continues to commit national suicide, making vague gestures in the right direction while letting his enemies slaughter the country. (Or more likely helping the enemies.)
May understands the URGENT NEED FOR URGENT URGENCY, the need to GET EVERYTHING DONE FIRST.
Just one day after the PM activated Article 50, the Government announced plans to scrap around 1,000 rules, using so-called Henry VIII powers which side-step the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Thousands more EU laws will be converted into British law before being adjusted or scrapped completely.
When you're trying to undo a tyranny you have to WORK INFINITELY FAST and INFINITELY HARD.
Fuck the torpedoes, light speed ahead.

Constants and variables, scrambling edition
Wikileaks notes that Cisco is 'scrambling' to fix security holes that CIA used, now that Wikileaks has let out the magic smoke.
Apple and Google are NOT 'scrambling'. Business as usual.
A nice side effect of breaking the blackmail monopoly and collapsing the value of blackmail. When the magic smoke comes out, you can SEE who is part of the syndicate.
I hope they succeed
"Mayors" and "governors" are suing yet again over Trump's enforcement of existing law.
I hope they get a "judge" to rule that enforcing laws is unconstitutional. I've got a dozen major crimes I'm itching to commit, but I've been reluctant because those pesky police might enforce a law and put me in jail. I'm sure millions of other people have millions of other crimes in mind, just waiting for the TOTAL AMNESTY. Let's do it! JUBILEE!
= = = = =
Later, switching off Modest Proposal mode and getting dead serious: Is this really a road you want to take? Have you THOUGHT about the consequences of OFFICIALLY DECLARING that law enforcement is unconstitutional?
Or is this EXACTLY what you want? Are you INTENTIONALLY TRIGGERING a total crime wave and revolution to exterminate all Deplorables?

Genuinely newThis week's riot in Paris is TRULY UNPRECEDENTED. The rioters are CHINESE immigrants who felt mistreated by Paris police.
This is the first time CHINESE youth have rioted in foreign countries. The Chinese diaspora doesn't participate in politics directly, always preferring quiet money power. Because Chinese have higher math IQ and lower moral IQ than Caucasians, money power has always worked.
Does this mean that money power has stopped working in France? Or has Soros finally found a way to weaponize Orientals? Until now Soros hasn't been able to influence Orientals. Looking through the Europe section of dcleaks, I see a few incidental mentions of China (eg the "dissident" "artist" Ai Wei contributed a "work" of "art" to the refugees, who undoubtedly appreciated it) but no mention of OS activities directly aimed at Chinese in Europe.

This is how it was meant to work!
Immediately after Trump deleted several pieces of EPA insanity, criminal "governors" of insane states got together to plan STATE-LEVEL insanity.
GOOD, BY GOD!
This is getting much closer to proper federalism. States and localities are free to serve their own ends except in warmaking and immigration and foreign trade. (Sanctuary for immigrants is NOT a proper decision for a state or city.)
If a state wants to ruin its own people with green shit, fine. States that don't want to be raped by Gaia can protect themselves.
In most cases the ruination will be limited, because the non-crazy part of the crazy state has much more voting power in the state legislature than it does in the totally evil and totally corrupt Federal Nuthouse. California is the exception. Calif will roar ahead to complete and utter INTERNAL devastation without forcing Oklahoma and West Virginia to join in the suicide. As California goes dark, sane people will leave and the bully power of the loonies will quickly decrease.
MODULARITY, BY GOD.
Incidentally, these insane monsters have now FORFEITED all rights to criticize or mock Southerners, and FORFEITED all rights to defend Madman Lincoln's genocide. Federalism for all or federalism for none.
I'd been wondering
A commentary in 'Economist' on the shared narratives of the Abrahamic religions....
Among secular writers, yet another theory is now in fashion: Jesus was one more among the many Jewish-nationalist rebels against Rome, but his message was distorted by Paul into a quietist one which suited Rome better.
I'd been wondering about that possibility. Didn't realize others had the same thought. I'd already speculated that Jesus was an Agent Provocateur for Rome, similar to FBI terrorist stings. Recently, when thinking about the role of CIA in some leftist groups I'd been around, it struck me that Saul/Paul was a "FORMER" Roman bureaucrat, just like the "FORMER" CIA dudes who were instigating our groups to "serve the Soviets". His alleged conversion sounded a WHOLE LOT like the conversion stories of those CIA types. (Any radical group loves to display converted sinners to illustrate the force of its ideology. How can you distinguish the real reformed sinners from the APs? Just look at the three-letter equation. If SIN = CIA or SIN = FBI, the conversion is not genuine.)
= = = = =
Overall the commentary makes sense but misses one big point. Each of the three main religions has a Natural Law end and a secular Satanic end. Most of Islam has remained close to Natural Law. Some national forms are softer, but they aren't OPPOSED to NL. Christianity is about half and half. The rich denominations in the North have gone all the way over to Satan. Eastern and Southern groups (Soviet Bloc, Africa, Dixie) are still NL. Same with Judaism, except that the rich Satanic side now owns nearly all the territory. Some NL Jews remain in Israel itself.
The Satanic ends don't need any help in uniting. Antichrist Bergoglio and Antibishop Welby and the Trans leaders of Methodist, Presbyterian, etc, are furiously raging together with Soros to destroy civilization.
The NL team needs to get its ass in gear, needs to stop fussing about abstract theology. A black Pentecostal and a white Southern Baptist and an African Anglican and a Persian Muslim agree firmly on the rules for proper civilization. All are opposed to Soros on the same issues.
Getting DOWN TO BUSINESS
Sessions finally laid down the law on Sanctuary Cities.
Well-built speech. Started with polling, gave specific examples of the problem, cited the exact law that needs to be enforced, made a point of enforcing a regulation that was written but NOT enforced by Obama. Will withhold DOJ funds as a starting point, but also left further action open.
Okay, Copkiller Condon, alleged "mayor" of the Sanctuary City of Spokane. Now you have a real decision to make. Do you continue to serve your Lord And Master Bloomberg and kill even more cops, or do you OBEY THE FUCKING LAW now that MONEY depends on OBEYING THE FUCKING LAW? I'm betting on the former.

Need a new metaphorZH is mocking the latest "objective" hire by Sorosian media...
"Josh Earnest, White House Press Secretary under President Obama we're pleased to announce is joining us a political analyst. Now you have to wear your analyst hat, not your Democrats hat."
Question: What does a Democrat hat look like? What does an analyst hat look like?
Answer: Analyst hats and Democrat hats are identical. Null set. Nonexistent.
Democrats DON'T wear hats because blue-collar people DO wear hats. Trump, who understands branding even if he doesn't understand much else, made a BIG point of wearing a hat during the campaign. He wanted to associate himself with the blue-collar brand.
Everyone wore hats in the '50s, and everyone knew how to use hats as social symbols. JFK broke the habit for Dems, and nobody ever resumed it.
Earth hour not as usual
No, dammit. I'm not going to let a long COLD winter keep me down. I went to the trouble of 'making' this Electric Village set for the EXPLICIT purpose of honoring hydropower. Then I forgot about it.
Much more appropriate way to piss on Earth Hour and salute Pruitt!
The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports that the 50-year-old Tensed woman was driving south on U.S. Highway 95 on Wednesday when she struck a deer near Potlatch. The woman told Benewah County Sheriff's officials that she saw a Sasquatch chasing a deer on the side of the road while driving. She says she checked one of her mirrors to get a second look at the beast and when she looked up, the deer ran in front of her.
The salient part of this story is not the claim of a Sasquatch; it's the casualness of the claim. If you're completely unaccustomed to seeing a Bigfoot, you're not going to glance in the mirror for a second checkout; you're going to screech to a halt right then and there, possibly running off into the ditch.
The casual attitude is more like "Hmm. Sasquatch is trying to catch a deer. Let's see if I can learn something from his technique."

Leaping Retronyms!
This isn't quite the same thing as a retronym... it's more like the same word seen from front and back.
Here's an article from QST in 1920, at a time when tubes generating sine waves were still new, and most transmission was still by spark.
Spoiler: Sine waves won the battle almost immediately, and sparks disappeared. The term CW is still actively used, and it still means the same thing BY ITSELF. It still means Morse sent by interrupting a sine wave. But now it 'looks' the other way. The vector of meaning has turned around.
In 1920 CW was the new item, replacing sparks:
Later CW was the old item, mostly replaced by AM:
The distinction between spark (damped wave) and sine (Continuous Wave) is completely forgotten, so C is no longer felt as meaning Continuous. It's just an abbreviation for Morse, now seen in contrast to AM or FM or digital modes.
Seems like we need a new name for this way of shifting.... NO. In fact this is how words changed before the concept of retronyms became common. Connotations and vectors shifted without requiring a new prefix or suffix on the old vector.
My feeling that we need a new name for this concept is an attempt to retronymize an earlier concept that didn't need retronyms.
Meta-retro.
Direct approach 2Yesterday I noted a report about a burglar who was checking out houses by posing as a salesman inquiring about security. Simple and efficient. Do you have ADT? If not, you're set up for a burglary.
Firefox is doing something similar in its idiotic campaign to eradicate non-HTTPS websites. The latest version forces you to RE-ENTER passwords every time when accessing any non-HTTPS website. Even if you check the 'remember this' box, Firefox won't let the website 'remember this'. My paid web storage is non-HTTPS, so I have to re-enter the password each time I upload an image for use here; and then I have to explicitly dismiss a warning about the non-HTTPS content before I can either save or publish the post.
Do those extra steps increase security? Fuck no. Each re-entry of the password makes a new opportunity for a key-tracker to read the password, and each extra step in saving or posting adds more web traffic for other bots to read.
If Firefox thinks I'm going to switch storage to get out of their security inquiry, they're wrong. Firefox is run by tech-tyrants who spend their life hooked intraneuronically to Github. Their lives are contained in superfast RAM, instantly updating everything to the latest subsubsubversion as of the latest picopicopicosecond. Leaving anything constant for a full second is
I've got something like 3500 files in that old "insecure" storage website. Switching would require editing all 7200 posts on this blog, and there's no automatic way to do that. Thus the switch would offer 7200 new opportunities for bots to see the passwords.
This parallels the Romneycare delusion about shopping around for health insurance. Getting approved for insurance is a long and risky process. If you're young and healthy, and if INSURANCE IS NOT REQUIRED, maybe you can risk being uninsured for several months. Since INSURANCE IS REQUIRED, shopping around is made EXPLICITLY ILLEGAL by the same idiotic system that assumes you can shop around. Neither side of the Catch-22 was fixed by this month's alleged "fix", so it deserves to fail.
Earth hour as usual
Doing the Earth Hour thing as usual, illuminating to the max with gaslight. I was a little more optimistic this year, with trustworthy Okie Pruitt heading EPA. Pruitt is active, speaking truth to power and doing GOOD things.
At this point it's not clear that Trump wants to be president or even knows that he's president. If he continues to ruin his own administration, his good cabinet appointments will be completely wasted as Deepstate roars back in infinite revenge mode.
Still remains to be seen, but it's getting MIGHTY FUCKING LATE to turn things around.
Later....
Strong smell, faint smellUnreason mag has an interview with Barrett Brown, who served four years in prison for directly threatening the life of a Fed agent who was investigating him. Unreason is trying to portray the prison as punishment for activism. Given that Brown was also involved with heroin at the time, the likely causation is more complicated. In general the Feds are slow to imprison people for simple activism or simple crimes; they get PISSED when a criminal works WITH them on a sting and then turns AGAINST them.
Brown's current activities also smell slightly fishy, like chastened Agent Provocateur returning to work. This smell is less definite.
Brown is now working as a "journalist" for a mainstream city journal, and he's trying to start a new activist group. If you were really in prison for activism, you wouldn't be allowed to do either of those things, and you wouldn't WANT to start a new group.
Sidenote: I used to read Unreason mag often in the '90s... even subscribed to the paper version for a while. Back then, libertarians had some valid points and useful ideas about decentralizing. Now that the Libertarians have become just another Hillary brand, Unreason seems lost and confused. Authors are trying to use the word "Liberty" to defend Gaia and Globalism. It doesn't work.

Now we knowNow it becomes clear why Deepstate needed to get rid of Gen Flynn.
As a representative of Flynn Intel Group, Flynn met with senior representatives of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government in September 2016, Woolsey said. Woolsey was a Trump campaign adviser at the time and attended the meeting -- but said he arrived after it was already well underway. Woolsey claims that those present discussed sending Fethullah Gulen, a Muslim leader who Erdogan has accused of being behind a failed military coup to overthrow him, back to Turkey to face charges -- possibly outside the legal US extradition system.
Flynn was considering a move that would offend and weaken Our Supreme God and Savior Soros. UNTHINKABLE UNACCEPTABLE ALL OPTIONS ON THE TABLE. Since Trump didn't bother to defend Flynn, we also know for sure which side Trump is on.
Time to revise the map of Sorosia. I had optimistically and foolishly placed USA STRONG in the green, moving away from Soros. As Trump shows his true colors, or at least his total inability to act, I can't justify the coloration. I don't see any specific movement TOWARD Soros, so I'm not placing USA STRONG in the lavender group yet.

Fake repeal and fake replace fails
Good. Romneycare is the worst of all possible worlds, asI'vebeensayingfromthestart, but this fakery wouldn't have helped. It did simplify the regulations a bit. It didn't repeal anything. It didn't remove the requirement for insurance, it only set the penalty at zero dollars, which means bureaucrats could still find a way to punish you for non-compliance. This fakery didn't remove the idiotic "exchanges" at all.
The stock market is unhappy that this effort failed, which tells us everything we need to know about the beneficiaries of the fakery. Same as the beneficiaries of Romneycare itself. The Chosen.
Let Romneycare continue to rot, let the insurers continue to pull out. At some point the ONLY CORRECT SOLUTION will finally become palatable to the D idiots if not the R idiots. ONLY CORRECT SOLUTION = Medicare for all.

Globalist = digitalistPrevious item led to a Big Idea. Or at least it seems big to the ragged remnant of my sleep-deprived winter-weary mind.
Basic point:
Localism needs modular analog systems, so localists develop modular analog systems.
Globalism needs centralized digital systems, so globalists develop centralized digital systems.
= = = = =
Globalists love systems that DIGITALIZE a naturally analog process, because these processes allow a small entity to gain control without using energy.
How do you digitalize a smooth input?
In mechanical or neural or electronic arrangements, you need a SNAPPER. The device must sense when the input reaches a THRESHOLD, and abruptly SNAP the output to the opposite position.
A simple switch shows the principle. Happystar is moving the lever smoothly, and when the lever hits the contact point the current flows to the meter and lights. When he pulls the switch back, current stops flowing as soon as the lever leaves the contact point.
In more modern systems, switching is done by an amplifier or valve with 'too much' gain.
An amplifier is like a valve. The input is turning the faucet up and down, which takes very little strength; the valve controls a large flow of water or current, with much more strength in the resulting pushes.
One way of getting a switch-like response is to increase the gain or LEVERAGE, so that the output flow quickly reaches its positive and negative limits, and spends very little time between the limits.
A digital stage is efficient in a certain sense, because it spends very little time in ambiguity. For a transistor or a human, ambiguity takes more effort. We can quantify this fact for the transistor or valve.
When the valve is OFF, there's no flow, so no power.
When the valve is FULLY ON, there's plenty of flow but no turbulence or friction, so no power is used up.
In between, you have non-zero flow with non-zero friction, so more power is wasted.
We can't figure watts for a human, but experience tells us that the same principle applies. When you are totally committed to a mission or a job, all of your mental energy goes into the mission. When you are not doing a task at all, no energy is wasted on the task. It's the midrange that leads to burnout. When you're supposed to carry out a task but you've lost the belief that it's worth doing, you're exhausted by the turbulence and friction of doubt.
= = = = =
Globalists want each person and each country to be totally committed to a single task for maximum efficiency. If your task is supplying oil to the empire, supplying oil is the ONLY thing you can think about. If your task is building smartphones, building smartphones is the ONLY thing you can think about. You can't doubt your SINGLE purpose in life.
Graybill's Law.
= = = = =
In complex human systems like corporations and banks and governments, LEVERAGE is accomplished by rules and habits. Instead of a contact point, the government tells itself to make a decision at a specific setting of the input variable. The action is now software, not hardware. Laws are full of such decision points. Majority voting, guilty/not guilty jury decisions, the all-or-nothing electoral college, omnibus bills with poison pills, tax brackets. In each case the lever is moved by a small force, and a large flow of power turns on SHARPLY at the threshold point.
From the viewpoint of a ruling tribe, the big advantage of digital software is the LEVERAGE, the HIGH GAIN of this oversaturated amplifier. Small power turns the valve, and the valve opens an infinite flow of money or military power.
Software leverage works only when people believe that it works. This means that the small entity must FIRST acquire the tools to impose belief... as the entity under discussion unquestionably did. (Hollywood, TV, publishing.)
After the whole system is switched to software, physical reality is no longer relevant. No limits, no material inputs, no labor, no humans. QE, derivatives, infinite leverage.
= = = = =
Modularity is also a crucial part of an analog system. Nature REQUIRES it in complicated systems. Look at an old radio circuit:
Each stage pulls power from the same source and does its own thing. Some amplify, some detect, some filter. Only processed signal is transferred between stages. Transformers insure that no direct current can pull each stage out of its preferred operating conditions.
Now look at an old national circuit from the same decade:
An earlier less toxic form of globalism. Each module pulls power from sun and rain and does its own thing. Some grow wheat, some grow cattle, some cut logs, some mine iron, some turn the logs and iron into machines. Only processed product is transferred between stages. Borders insure that no direct migration can pull each stage out of its preferred operating conditions.
= = = = =
Modern globalism doesn't allow modules for the same reason that it doesn't allow analog responses. If each nation or city can make its own decisions, the ruling tribe has no LEVERAGE. With a single-knob control for the entire world, all decisions by the ruling tribe can be propagated instantly everywhere. See Libor, WTO, EU, fractional-reserve banking.
Modern "nations" are thus built without transformers. All coupling is OPEN to DC and AC of all frequencies. You can't protect your own manufacturers by halting the import of manufactured products or cheap labor. You can't protect your own farmers by halting cheap produce. You can't protect your own people by halting the import of criminal migrants. You can't protect the culture of your own tribe from the media force of the ruling tribe.
The non-human parts of Nature won't let you design a physical system this way.
We have been FOOLED into thinking that human nature will let us do it. Clearly it doesn't work. An amplifier that receives 200 volts DC along with the 0.2 volt AC signal will burn out. A nation that receives 200,000 criminal migrants along with 2 useful migrants will burn out.
= = = = =
How do we return to analog control and modular organization? As mentioned before, we need to start by recognizing the situation.
Genes exist. Ethnic groups are different. Modularity requires at least some division by ethnicity. Digitalized legal systems make it too easy for one tribe to control everything with little expenditure of energy. Analog legal systems, based on quantified recompense and revenge, provide a NEGATIVE FEEDBACK LOOP which gives more control to the non-rulers.
I know, teacher! Pick me! Pick me!
Wikileaks poses a little riddle.
This CIA logo as seen #Vault7 has a simple code in the image. Can you crack it?
Leaving aside the binary stuff which is the obvious answer, I see a rebus sequence.
Key,
Stealth Knowledge Innovation = SKI,

So the KEY to anything that looks [Rus]SKI is the USA Eagle.
Or more precisely a dead eagle's head, with the body shorted out and melting from CIA sabotage.

I'm looking at the User's Manuals for CIA hacking tools in the latest Wikileaks offering. These little files are no different from User's Manuals for other types of software. I've written dozens of manuals with similar patterns, though mine don't look quite as official and don't have labels like TOP SECRET/NOFORN at the top.
Yeah, banality of evil and all that ... but there's something deeper going on here that I couldn't see at first. I had to stop and think. How is this software different from non-evil software? What can it do that my useful educational software and pointless recreational software can't do?
Compare with earlier spy tools. Shortwave receivers and transmitters were used as spy tools. CIA and KGB had their own specific xmtrs and rcvrs. Why weren't they also incurably evil?
Because radios, like guns, can be used offensively and defensively and recreationally. Hacking software is purely offensive. It has no defensive or recreational uses. It serves solely to STEAL information and DAMAGE machinery.
Globalists use tools solely for aggressive and criminal purposes. Localists use tools defensively.

Missing part of the point
Just noticed a rather old article in BBC's culture section. There's plenty of evidence that "modern" "art" was used as a cultural weapon by CIA. Several CIA-owned foundations helped to fund the "artists" and helped to spread their "work" to Europe and the Soviet Bloc.
Jazz was used similarly without any pretense of secrecy. (See Willis Conover.) Not surprising that "modern" "art" would run the same way.
Many Americans considered "modern" "art" to be a Commie tool. Cleon Skousen included it in his list of Commie attempts to break down American society. He was right about the Commies but misattributed the source to Russia. (And I was dumb enough to go along with him.)
Commies in America were always working primarily for OSS/CIA/FBI. It's the good old Globalist Tripod. Banks, Intel, Leftists. Some were also working with Russia at times, because Russia has always been happy to help weaken America. But Russia was not the source of these ideas. CIA and internal Leftists have been the CONSISTENT source of chaos.
The BBC article speculates about the purpose:
According to Anfam, it is easy to see why the CIA wished to promote Abstract Expressionism. “It’s a very shrewd and cynical strategy,” he explains, “because it showed that you could do whatever you liked in America.” By the ‘50s, Abstract Expressionism was bound up with the concept of individual freedom: its canvases were understood as expressions of the subjective inner lives of the artists who painted them.
As a result, the movement was a useful foil to Russia’s official Soviet Realist style, which championed representative painting. “America was the land of the free, whereas Russia was locked up, culturally speaking,” Anfam says, characterising the perception that the CIA wished to foster during the Cold War.
Doesn't make sense. Very few Americans want to "do whatever you like", and nobody except the "artists" saw any purpose in scrawling and scratching random shit and calling it "art". Americans and Russians, like all rational people, want art to be a beautiful and orderly representation of reality. The job of art is to ADD order, not subtract. We were getting what we wanted from commercial artists, so we saw no reason to value the CIA-sponsored chaos. Russians were getting a better deal in terms of officially sponsored art, so they had even less reason to want abstract ratshit.
A much simpler explanation: CIA, dark heart of Globalism, wants to spread chaos and death everywhere because CIA is evil. The real target of "modern" "art" was domestic, not foreign. It was convenient to blame the Russkies, and the Russkies were dumb enough to help with the blame.

The direct approach
Posted at Spokane-news facebook page:
There has been a few solicitors in the Emmerson-Garfield neighborhood. I think they are staking out homes. One is a very average, un-althletic man asking for donations for his soccer team to go to Ireland. White male, about 6 ft, dirty blond hair and a lazy eye. About an hour later, a black man with salted hair and beard was inquiring about home security. He had no badge, did not represent his company, just inquired of our situation. He was wearing a carhart hoodie, jeans, and dirty white shoes. Please send out a post to be watching out for these guys!
Inquiring about home security. Much more efficient than 'casing the joint' by careful observation!
Fortunately the provider of this news DID practice careful observation. Those are useful descriptions.

Retribalizing
Last year Congress did a rare GOOD thing when it opened the path for lawsuits against Saudi for attacking us on 9/11. Several such suits have been launched, including a big one yesterday.
Aside from bribery and corruption, there's a deep conceptual roadblock that prevents us from seeing the war accurately. In the 20th century we've been accustomed to conflict between nation-states. WW1 was the first big war among the nation-states of Europe that had crystallized in 1870. WW2 was even more purely based on nation-states, and the Cold War continued the pattern.
9/11 announced a return to TRIBAL war. Saudi has never been an 1800-style nation. It's a family enterprise. Some members of the royal family helped CIA to run and finance al-Qaeda and ISIS. Saudi as a national government was not involved, but that should be seen as irrelevant.
Now that the two big empires are breaking up, nations are quickly returning to natural tribal conditions. EU is trying to maintain its quasi-national status in order to keep the German nation-state together, but it will fail just like the Soviet and American quasi-national empires.
Overall a consistent tribal setup is better for ordinary people. The tribal wars of pre-1870 Europe were often long and locally brutal, but they were NOT TOTAL WARS. Royal families didn't want to own the world; they just wanted to kick out another small-scale family.
At the moment our stimulus-response mechanism is still locked into the total war mode. When some members of a royal family attack us, our only choice is digital. Obliterate the entire nation or do nothing. Earlier eras had more analog modes of responding to threats.
We have a similar mismatch in legal proceedings. Most local and state governments are run by tribes (ethnic mafias) now. Italian, Injun, Jew. The 1800s 'secular' worldview declares that genes do not exist, and thus prevents us from RECOGNIZING tribeforce. When we can't RECOGNIZE ethnic tribes, a tribe is free to operate without punishment. Tribes have grabbed this opportunity, leveraging a small influence into control of a vast area which is mostly occupied by other tribes. If we return to the older more 'commercial' legal system of Natural Law or Old English Common Law, monetary influence can be restricted and balanced by monetary recompense.
These Saudi lawsuits could be the camel's nose that tears down the Big Tent of nations and returns us to a more limited and less leveraged arrangement. OJ Simpson was able to use black tribeforce to halt 'digital' jail time but couldn't get away from 'analog' lawsuits for monetary recompense. Same here.
Wouldn't it be
Listened for about 30 seconds to Bader Ginsburg Gorsuch. Quickly had to save my blood pressure.
There's that word INDEPENDENT again.
Wouldn't it be splendid, just fucking once, to hear a "judge" nominee who is COMPLETELY DEPENDENT on the laws and charters of the country?
Every job has rules that must be obeyed. If I tried to get a programming job by offering to be INDEPENDENT of the compilers and interpreters of C++ and Python, I'd never get a job. If a ditch digger offered to be INDEPENDENT of shovels and wheelbarrows, he'd never be hired. If a plumber said he'd decide INDEPENDENTLY AND NEUTRALLY to let water flood the room, he'd be gone. If a surgeon promised to be NEUTRAL when dealing with cancer, he'd be sued down to bedrock. Even an ordinary lawyer can't be INDEPENDENT of the laws of the state or county.
Why should a judge be NEUTRAL when dealing with the water pressure of corruption or the cancer of abortion?
When Fuckhead Schumer starts grilling him, the DEPENDENT nominee would respond:
"Tell you what, Lucky Chucky. Here's a mirror so you can look at yourself and jack off. I'm not going to answer your unspeakably idiotic questions because the intelligence of the world will be lowered by several hundred points if I treat your questions as coherent English. Instead, I will handle lawsuits and criminal cases as specified in the Constitution. Any case that is intended to make or revise or repeal laws is illegal and I will force the other members of the court to reject such cases entirely, at gunpoint if needed. If rejecting the case will allow a lower court to make or revise or repeal a law, I will force the lower court to delete its attempted crime, by shooting if necessary. I will hire mercenaries to enforce the LAWS of this country when any employee of the judicial branch attempts to commit a crime by legislating."

Google and its sister company Jigsaw, are stepping up efforts to help keep elections free of online interference after helping to defend one of two important voter information websites that came under cyber attack during last week's Dutch national election.
A Jigsaw spokesman said on Tuesday that it plans to offer a free suite of security tools called Protect Your Election for upcoming national votes in France, South Korea and Germany, then subsequent elections as they occur.
In other words, pro-Soros groups will be given a free picture window to view the activities and emails of anti-Soros groups, and anti-Soros groups will be freely spoofed into thinking they're secure.
I hope the anti-Soros groups have enough sense to develop their own security.
Best security of all: Don't do anything important online. Stick with 'eyeball QSOs' and paper. If you don't want your conversation to be public, don't talk in public. True for 5000 years, still true now.
In the end it doesn't matter
Unsurprisingly, wiretappers FBI and NSA "didn't find any evidence" that wiretappers FBI and NSA had wiretapped Trump Tower.
WHAT DID TRUMP EXPECT?
Everyone knows that NSA monitors EVERYTHING, and everyone knows that NSA closely analyzes sources that could endanger its budget. When Trump got into politics he showed signs of wanting to pull back from total permanent war and chaOS, so he was a dangerous subversive who needed careful attention.
Everyone ALSO knows that you're not going to get any valid information from FBI or NSA or CIA. If you want information you need LEAKS.
The accusation would have been worth the trouble if Trump already had proof of the surveillance. It's not hard to acquire such proof. But he didn't.
Instead he violated two basic rules of human nature. Don't start a war you can't finish, and don't make accusations you can't prove.
ESPECIALLY when the opposition is devoting all of its attention to the false accusation of "Russian meddling". The cure for a false accuser is to stand back, shut up, and help the truth to appear on its own. Making your own unprovable accusation DESTROYS your ability to point out the opposition's lies.
I'm still TRYING to avoid the obvious conclusion that Trump is a false flag for Deepstate, but at this point I can't find any good evidence against the conclusion.
In the end it doesn't matter if he's a false flag or a hopeless idiot. Globalism has destroyed itself by overreaching. Even if Trump is working for Goldman, there's nothing left for Goldman to globalize and securitize. The EU side is rapidly losing momentum. Brexit is firm. Putin has broken the Soros bubble, and there's no way to reinflate it.
Signs and omens?
In earlier decades mobsters liked to run 'floating craps games'. I didn't think they were still popular, but obviously I was wrong.
A giant metal die apparently washed up on the shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene over the weekend. It was found between The Resort and Independence Point, next to the seaplane dock. It appears as though it had been removed it by Monday afternoon, one witness said. “No idea where to, but it would have been challenging,” said Mark Sales, the man who took the photos. “It was about 6’ square and steel.”
Einstein supposedly said "God doesn't play dice." Obviously he was wrong.
Or maybe God is trying to send a signal to these casinos that have displaced productive economic activity. Meteors with a message. You think you're Number One? Your number is up. Live by the die, die by the die.

Note for map lovers (and Deceptive Headline 2)The latest item at KSHS is a BIG detailed map of Kansas in 1872. Published by Santa Fe RR to show the huge band of land it was given as a subsidy. Santa Fe sold all of the land to finance its rail construction. Looks like about 1/5 of the state.
The headline says 30,000 FREE HOMES! Well, they weren't FREE. You could get into a 7 percent mortgage without a down payment. Deceptive. Lots of Easterners took the deal, paid the mortgage payments for a while, then failed because they weren't farmers and most of the land wasn't suitable for small-scale farming. Santa Fe was then FREE to sell the same land again.

Deceptive headline
The headline and summary of an analysis of "climate change" "research" is deceptive. The headline says "No publication bias found", and the abstract is equally firm.
The actual article is nearly opposite to the headline. It finds that the 2009 leak was useful. Before the leak, Mann and Jones and their criminal gang were running wild, publishing all sorts of nonsense and lies and receiving plenty of money, power and glory for their crimes. After the leak exposed them as gangsters, published articles became far more cautious, emphasizing non-significant results and failures.
However, our meta-analysis did find multiple lines of evidence of biases within our sample
of articles, which were perpetuated in journals of all impact factors and related largely to how
science is communicated: The large, statistically significant effects were typically showcased
in abstracts and summary paragraphs, whereas the lesser effects, especially those that were not
statistically significant, were often buried in the main body of reports.
...
We also discovered a temporal pattern to reporting biases, which appeared to be related to
seminal events in the climate change community and may reflect a socio-economic driver in
the publication record. First, there was a conspicuous rise in the number of climate change
publications in the 2 years following IPCC 2007, which likely reflects the rise in popularity
(among public and funding agencies) for this field of research and the increased appetite
among journal editors to publish these articles. Concurrent with increased publication rateswas an increase in reported effect sizes in abstracts. Perhaps a coincidence, the apparent
popularity of climate change articles (i.e., number of published articles and reported effect
sizes) plummeted shortly after Climategate, when the world media focused its scrutiny on this
field of research, and perhaps, popularity in this field waned.
In other words, as I said yesterday, exposing corruption reduces the blackmail power of gangsters. Supply of information grows and demand shrinks, thus collapsing the value of blackmail.
Or in other other words, the article demonstrated its own point! How to put a fashionable title on a not-so-fashionable article.
Ankita Rao is an enemy of logic and health.
What in the HOLY FUCK is wrong with these monsters other than EVERYTHING?
A monster named Ankita Rao spews evil in the predictable evil-source Motherboard.
Rao accurately describes two SIMPLE HISTORICAL FACTS.
HISTORICAL FACT 1: In 1975 Indira Gandhi used the public health agencies to forcibly sterilize 6 million men, mainly Muslim.
HISTORICAL FACT 2: In 2011 our CIA used the public health agencies in Pakistan to run a fake vaccination campaign as a sting to find Sheikh Osama.
Ankita Rao lists these two FACTS and then spews:
This misinformation is a kind of virus in itself. Fighting dangerous conspiracy theories, as India has found, is its own important battle, as important and challenging as actually stamping out the poliovirus for good.
Comrade O'Brien LOVES Comrade Rao. Immediately after listing the HISTORICAL FACTS about the lethal evil of public health agencies, Comrade Rao tells us that HISTORICAL FACTS are misinformation, and anyone who recognizes HISTORICAL FACTS as HISTORICAL FACTS is a paranoid lunatic.
No, Comrade Rao. You are the paranoid lunatic. Theory is theory and fact is fact. The ordinary people of India and Pakistan are SANE AND RATIONAL despite your evil efforts to INFECT them with your infinite evil and infinite insanity. Natural Law vaccinates them against your infinite evil.
= = = = =
Later thought: We have the same ACTUAL CONSPIRACY here. Public health works to advance tyrannical dictatorship. The Centers For Dissident Control (CDC) requires doctors to ask ILLEGAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL QUESTIONS as part of medical history. Those questions destroyed my trust in doctors. Before those questions appeared, I was (reluctantly!) willing to take medical advice. Now I'm not.
3/28 Addendum: Now Elon Musk, demonic demonleader of the demonic tech tyrants, is proposing to control our minds through an INJECTED net of nanocircuits. Thus verifying YET ANOTHER ONE of the supposedly "crazy" and "paranoid" notions of 666 Christians and anti-vaxers.
If demon "scientists" want us to stop OBSERVING that they are omnicidal mass-murdering hyperevil demons, they should stop being omnicidal mass-murdering hyperevil demons. Since they are omnicidal mass-murdering hyperevil demons, they are not capable of stopping. So we will continue to OBSERVE.
When you see
I haven't done one of these nice simple Asked And Answered items in a while...
Nuff said.
(Do you suppose the 'network error failed part way' because the question used a semicolon instead of a colon?)
Where's the advertisement?
Major belief systems try to generate Utopian novels and stories, showing the beauty and perfection of life after the Golden Dawn of Our Belief System. Most of these novels are forgotten because they are crude and preachy. Instead we remember the Dystopian novels showing the reality of the belief system.
What about SorOS?
SorOS is unique. Most belief systems push you into a period of doubt and cognitive dissonance, then resolve the dissonance with the giant major chord of Our Holy Belief System. SorOS skips the second step because he doesn't need you or want you. ChaOS is all you get, and then you die. Only SorOS exists. SorOS is the universe and the universe is SorOS.
No doubt about the Dystopian novel. Percy's Love in the Ruins covers all the bases. Percy illustrates a system that intentionally throws all brains into chaOS without a resolving chord.
Well, what would the Utopian novel look like?
I suppose Flatland's Monarch of Pointland gets close. It's old-fashioned and creaky, but it portrays a universe with exactly one entity. Not an attractive picture unless you're SorOS.
In other words, the Utopian novel of SorOS is logically and physically impossible. There's no way to advertise or romanticize a world where you are dead and gone.
No, it's not "accountability"
A lot of conservative and libertarian types are missing the point about whistleblowers. They talk about the disinfectant of sunlight. They foolishly assume that myths like "democracy" and "laws" exist. They hope public knowledge will create this mysterious "accountability" which has never existed before and never will exist.
Nope. That's not the point, and that's not why whistleblowers and unofficial leakers are important.
One word: Blackmail.
More words: Knowledge is like any other commodity. When supply is tightly restricted and demand is high, value goes up.
Conspiracies need BLACKMAIL to function. This is literally and concretely true for intel outfits like CIA or GCHQ, which use their knowledge to kill and force compliance. When their secret methods and sources and circuits are publicly known, their power is reduced. It's true in a more subtle way for conspiracies like Michael Mann's climate criminals. When conspirators KNOW how to falsify data and misuse graphs and manipulate peer review, the conspirators can leverage their knowledge to gain power.
Even polling is blackmail, as the DNC leaks showed us. Polls were intentionally distorted by oversampling to create an impression of unbreakable consensus and power, which demoralized the Sanders faction and "disproved" the obvious cheating. No, we didn't win those caucuses by corrupt miscounting; you can see from the polls that you were losing anyway.
When competitors and ordinary folks ALSO know what the conspirators know, the knowledge loses its blackmail value and the conspirators lose their magic criminal superpowers.
That's why leaks are important. Leaks break the monopoly of rarity and increase the supply.
That's also why you need to maintain and trust your own independent knowledge of the universe. When you have your own direct experiential knowledge, you decrease the demand for the criminal's knowledge.
Truly unprecedented
Meanwhile, in the insane beyond insane beyond insane world of Federal omnicidal hyperdemonic turbocriminals, one turbocriminal has declared that Trump's perfectly legal and perfectly normal revision of immigration law is wrong because Trump planned to do it.
The decision itself is automatic and drably predictable. Federal criminals destroy law and kill the universe. All good things must be SMASHED AND STOMPED INTO OBLIVION. That's their job. Omnicide. Obliterating civilization. But this particular omnicidist adds a new element to the predictable omnicide.
The Maryland ruling was made by U.S. District [Criminal] Theodore D. Chuang. Like [Criminal] Watson, he [illegally and fraudulently and criminally] "determined" that Trump's executive order was "the realization of the long-envisioned Muslim ban" and also pointed to comments made by Trump throughout his campaign.
This goes beyond beyond beyond beyond all the previous beyond beyond beyond. A simple and transparently legal law is illegal BECAUSE IT WAS PLANNED and BECAUSE IT WAS A CAMPAIGN PROMISE by a politician.
This new element is part of the SorOS project. The goal of SorOS is absolute chaOS and total death. Perfectly random and INANIMATE acts, similar in intelligence to the wandering of air molecules or the roiling of a cloud, are permissible. All intelligence is forbidden.
Trump had a PURPOSE in mind when he slightly revised existing law on immigration, so his slight revision is ABSOLUTELY VERBOTEN.
SorOS in one sentence. Life is forbidden. Purpose is impossible. Order is destroyed on sight. Only death is allowed.
What is this??????
A scary phenomenon. Part of the sky is missing, and is being replaced by an unknown entity of ???negative sky-ness???? I have a vague memory of something like this happening a long time ago, perhaps in a previous life.
Later: The sun was just a tease. It was followed by a fierce short storm, providing a typical Grand Finale to a LONG** period of rain. Now MAYBE we'll get a week or two of relatively dry weather. I need it desperately. Weather PTSD.
** Long = six weeks with only a few scattered dry days.
A clumsy Excel using Weather Bureau data for Nov 1 through Mar 31. Blue is any precip, red is snow. Nov, Dec, Jan show a more 'ordinary' pattern of precip once a week. Feb and Mar show a relentless soaking.
More ambiguous grouping
Continuing the theme of ambiguous grouping...Article at Quartz describes a labor lawsuit that turned on a badly positioned comma. The court decided in favor of truck drivers against a dairy.....
On March 13, a US court of appeals determined that certain clauses of Maine’s overtime laws are grammatically ambiguous. Because of that lack of clarity, the five drivers won their appeal and were found eligible for overtime.
According to state law, the following types of activities are among those that don’t qualify for overtime pay:
The canning, processing, preserving,
freezing, drying, marketing, storing,
packing for shipment or distribution of:
(1) Agricultural produce;
(2) Meat and fish products; and
(3) Perishable foods.
Is packing (for shipment or distribution) a single activity that is exempt from overtime pay? Or are packing and distributing two different activities, and both exempt? If lawmakers had used a serial comma, it would have been clear that distribution was an overtime-exempt activity on its own. But without the comma, wrote US appeals judge David J. Barron, the law is ambiguous...
...so the judge ruled in favor of the drivers. They were working overtime hours, and the law didn't clearly exempt them from overtime pay, so they deserved overtime pay.
Problems like this could be resolved at the start if legislatures hired some programmers to write parallel versions of the code.
In Python:
# = = = = =
def IsExempt(activity,product):
ExemptActivities = [
"processing",
"preserving",
"freezing",
"drying",
"marketing",
"storing",
"packing for shipment",
"distribution"]
ExemptProducts = [
"Agricultural produce",
"Meat products",
"Fish products",
"Perishable foods"]
decision = 0
if (activity in ExemptActivities) and (product in ExemptProducts):
decision = "No overtime"
else:
decision = "overtime"
return decision
# end definition of function IsExempt
# = = = = =
# Test for a specified combination.....
activity = "distribution"
product = "Perishable foods"
print "for %s of %s, %s" % (activity, product, IsExempt(activity,product) )
# = = = = =
(The above is real code. You can copy it and run it.)
The programmers could then test all of the potential activities and products to see if the result was as intended. Later on, courts could use the same code to resolve questions reliably without using arguable and changeable grammar rules.
The best part: You don't even need a computer. After testing, the Python version can be read with perfect reliability by humans.
Santorum gets it.Some truth carried by a bad source:
Donald Trump’s insistence that he was wiretapped by the Obama administration, despite what the FBI and the Senate Intelligence Committee have said, is now “hurting” him, warned former Pennsylvania senator and Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum. Santorum, who supported Trump for president and backs many of his policies, also said it’s time for Trump to leave the campaign behind and act like a president. “We’re not in an election anymore, and it’s not his opponent he’s throwing off,” Santorum said of Trump during an appearance on CNN. “I think it’s him that he’s throwing off.”
I suppose the quote is correct but the background is false.
Santorum isn't just a supporter or backer. Santorum is a REAL Populist who understands the problems and solutions deeply and accurately. He has been consistently observing problems and proposing solutions for 20 years. He helped Trump to SAY the right things, but it's still completely unclear that Trump UNDERSTANDS anything.
Aside from populism and globalism, there's a basic question of leadership. One of Trump's big selling points was his alleged leadership ability as a businessman who GETS THINGS DONE.
Starting fights you can't win is NOT part of GETTING THINGS DONE. It's the exact opposite. When you're wasting time and effort on an unwinnable battle, you are losing the confidence of your own supporters. We WANT to support a man who works toward correct solutions, but we can't support an idiot who wastes everyone's time with stupid distractions.

A second child in Washington has become seriously ill after eating a soy nut butter product included in the nationwide illness outbreak and food recall.
The Washington State Department of Health is urging the people of Washington to double-check their shelves for any variety of I.M. Healthy SoyNut Butter, I.M. Healthy Granola, or Dixie Diner's Club Carb Not Beanit Butter, and to throw it out immediately regardless of purchase date or the date listed on the container.
I.M. Healthy. Inaptronym of the year.
Also, the mysterious Dixie Diner's Club Carb Not Beanit Butter has to be the most ambiguously grouped name ever. You can pair up the words in all sorts of ways to get different meanings. Is it a Carb made by the Diner's Club in Dixie, which is not Beanit but Butter? Or is it a Club Carb owned by the Dixie Diner, which is not Beanit Butter? Is a Club Carb a fizzy carb like Club Soda, or is it a carb that clubs you into a sugar coma like Sachertorte? And if it's not Beanit Butter, what IS it? A pyramid? A llama? A samovar? A hammock? Since Beanit Butter is not an actual thing, saying this is NOT Beanit Butter tells you less than nothing.
It's the perfect opposite of Jabberwocky, where solid syntax tells you what each unknown word means. Here all the words except Beanit are familiar, but the syntax is perfectly opaque.
Violation of puritan norms
It's a basic fact. Smoking improves the voice, until you reach the age when it ruins the voice. Singers and announcers have always smoked, and announcers were often required to smoke.
The fact hasn't changed but puritanical idiocy forces us to ignore the fact ... until now. BBC website has a feature about the actors who do dubbing and voice-overs for big names. The article includes pictures of 7 voice-over artists. Two of them are shown smoking, and the article makes no attempt to counteract the attractiveness of those pictures.
Later thought: The voice-over stars obviously posed with a cigarette and wanted the picture to appear for positive publicity. This tells us that producers who hire voice-overs still understand the basic fact and still want to hire smokers. Nice to know that common sense beats puritanism in some places.

Tacit agreement fading
In the 1930 depression, big business quickly felt public pressure to behave responsibly, and generally complied. The profit motive requires a business to treat employees and public with some degree of fairness.
In the 2008 depression, big business has no reason to respond to public pressure. Profit has been replaced by share value, which means "customers" are no longer customers. Goldman is the customer, and Goldman wants perfect 100% mathematics. No money can be wasted on products or humans.
I wonder if the Goldman paradigm is starting to loosen up. Amazon, which grew without paying any taxes, is finally starting to collect sales tax for point of purchase. At the start of 2017 they were collecting in 39 states, and they're quickly adding the rest. The states added this year are mainly 'red states'. Amazon felt no need to support Uncools until this year.
Needless to say, Repooflican eunuchs are complaining about supporting states. They want ALL money to flow into the Goldman black hole.
Sales tax has always been nominally required on all purchases regardless of state boundaries. The feds have never bothered to enforce this, which made some sense before Amazon and before computers. Cross-border taxes impose a heavy overhead on a small or medium business. You need to have an account in each state where you might sell stuff, you have to keep up with the forms and rates in each state and city, and you have to submit quarterly or monthly reports to each of those states. For a bookstore or hobby shop that occasionally received a mail order, the overhead was WAY out of proportion to the profit.
Back in the 70s when I was bookkeeper for a construction company, we did business in 5 states at various times. Keeping up with cross-border taxes occupied me for two or three days per month. If we had tried to be ready for business in all 50 states, the work would have required two bookkeepers.
In the digital era this overhead fades to near zero, so there's no reason for the tacit arrangement now.

Constants and variables 64
A couple weeks ago I wrote this (omitting an irrelevant intro):
Globalism and localism are both about WEAPONS.
On every scale the basic pattern is consistent.
Globalists are AGGRESSIVE, localists are DEFENSIVE.
Globalists start revolutions and attack other countries with bombs and armies. Globalists weaponize grizzlies and wolves and "protesters" and media and migrants and "scientists" and criminals, and send them out to destroy innocent lives. Any attempt to defend yourself against any of these weapons is treated as AGGRESSION.
Localists insist on their right to use WALLS and GUNS and BORDERS and FACTS and POLICE to DEFEND themselves against the armies and bombs and grizzlies and wolves and "protesters" and media and migrants and "scientists" and criminals sent out by globalists.
Let's take another step.
Globalists follow the leftist tradition of ignoring genes and ignoring human activity. Globalists focus on the WEAPONS at all scales. This is well-known when applied to ordinary guns. We are not supposed to recognize habitual criminals; we are supposed to FEAR AND BAN guns for all uses, so normal people will be defenseless against habitual criminals.
In the abovenamed situations we are supposed to SEE AND FEAR the grizzlies and the ISIS Muslims and the rioters and the criminals. We are not supposed to SEE the demons who make and load the weapons.
Variable: Our required response to these WEAPONS differs, depending on the specific needs of the globalist. In some cases we are supposed to despair and give up; in others we are supposed to invade and bomb some other country that has offended Saudi or Soros or Israel.
Constant: We are NOT supposed to notice the demonic active humans who are PULLING THE TRIGGER on these weapons. We are not supposed to see the environmentalists who release the grizzlies. We are not supposed to see CIA when it forms and trains and funds al-Qaeda and ISIS. We are not supposed to see the bankers and re-insurers who fund and control the "scientists". Above all we are not allowed to see Soros controlling and coordinating all of these weaponized creatures.
MIxed feelings, to put it mildlyZH reports that a Utah Senator is trying to cut off our support for Soros in Macedonia.
Good that a US politician is finally NOTICING the most evil force in the world, but the focus is wildly misplaced and wasted. In other words, this is an intentional DISTRACTION AND DISSIPATION of public force.
Macedonia doesn't need our help. Courageous Macedonia is ALREADY ERADICATING Soros influence in their country. We don't need to worry about them. We need to worry about OUR COUNTRY, where Soros continues to weaponize EVERYTHING, continues to destroy the universe.
This is a worldwide emergency with only one solution.
KILL SOROS. KILL ALL OF HIS EMPLOYEES AND ASSOCIATES AND ALL ORGANIZATIONS THAT WILLINGLY AND KNOWINGLY TAKE MONEY FROM HIM. CONFISCATE ALL HIS WEALTH. KILL.
Monsters
The vile filthy demons at KXLY grab every opportunity to smash Deplorables. Even in choice of transportation: "Tomorrow is St Patty's Day. We urge you to download Lyft or Uber, or have a designated driver."
No mention of Uncool Taxis**, no mention of Maximally Unthinkable Buses.
Are they just serving sponsors? Nope. Uber and Lyft are not sponsors. Spokane Transit IS a sponsor. A paid ad for Uncool STA Vanpooling ran just after the unpaid plug for COOOOOOL Lyft and Uber.
Monsters.
** Not just an oversight. Taxis are generically uncool to begin with. The main taxi company is owned by the only sane legitimate member of the City Council, which makes taxis SPECIFICALLY UNCOOL.

How government should communicateHere is a beautiful example of GOOD communication by local government. Bonner County is explaining why all local roads are 'compromised' by permafrost, and why the county is waiting to fix them. Clear and factual and commonsensical.
Reverse causation as usualBeinart wonders whether churches could help to bring Deplorables back into civilization.
Why did these religiously unaffiliated Republicans embrace Trump’s bleak view of America more readily than their churchgoing peers? Has the absence of church made their lives worse? Or are people with troubled lives more likely to stop attending services in the first place? Establishing causation is difficult, but we know that culturally conservative white Americans who are disengaged from church experience less economic success and more family breakdown than those who remain connected, and they grow more pessimistic and resentful. Since the early 1970s, according to W. Bradford Wilcox, a sociologist at the University of Virginia, rates of religious attendance have fallen more than twice as much among whites without a college degree as among those who graduated college. And even within the white working class, those who don’t regularly attend church are more likely to suffer from divorce, addiction, and financial distress.
Backwards as usual. Churches are like all other social gatherings. All are places where popular attractive high-status people can gather to mock and reject and exclude the unwanted low-status Deplorables. Encouraging unwanteds to attend church is a good way to get MORE suicides and crime and hopeless alcoholism.
Look at this small church singing Fanny Crosby's fine old hymn 'Rescue the Perishing', which advises churches to violate their normal principles.
You're desperately tired of being pushed down and excluded. You walk into this church hoping to find some scrap of respect and 'insiderness'. Would you stay? (Hint: 1:50.)
Churches won't solve anything. You need to start at the JOB end of the problem. Deplorables are MAKERS. They are males whose intrinsic pride is connected to MAKING THINGS. If more Deplorables get a chance to MAKE THINGS, and then RECEIVE MONEY in return for MAKING THINGS, the problem will dissipate.
Trump appears to understand this point, at least in rhetoric. I don't know if he really believes it, but he was tutored by Santorum who does genuinely understand it.
Busting a template
After a gray tense superslippery winter with no
to provide traction, I'm enjoying good old Hoffman Street again. This morning a NON-TEMPLATE event happened. I was clomping along, thinking about dew point vs ambient temperature. Is it possible for ambient to go below dew point? Sure as hell feels like it this morning.
Surprise! The biggest and richest house on Hoffman is clearly occupied but I'd never seen anyone outside. Today a rich-looking FitBitBlonde came out, wearing rich fluorescent Spandex FitBitGear. She walked up the hill for 100 feet then walked back down to the house. Then she ran 100 feet uphill and ran back. Was she walking the dog? No, she was pulling what looked like a leash but there was no dog on the end. Then she came out again without the ?????leash????? and took off running again, this time normally without a turnaround.
What was she doing? Walking a ghost dog that I couldn't see? One of those trick AMAZE YOUR FRIENDS air-leash novelty gadgets? Making some kind of FitBitMeasurement on the pavement before FitBitRunning? Selfie** stick without the cellphone? I'll never know.
Well, that's why life is dynamic. You got your template-verifying events and you got your template-busting events. Can't build new templates without the latter.

** Vaguely Nabokovian footnote: The proverbial Martian observer, trying to interpret our language and customs without preconceptions, would automatically assume that selfie was an abbreviation for selfone, the gadget that attaches to the selfie stick. Martian would then deduce that selfone was a compound of self and own, because the selfone is clearly the self that owns the other accessory normally attached to the selfone.
Mixed feelings, mixed feelings
Watching the Dutch election with mixed feelings. Wilders smells like an Agent Provocateur to me. He is definitely on the Populist side but he seems to be fulfilling the elite caricature of Populists. More anti-Muslim than anti-migration or anti-trade.
Nationalism will move more cleanly and rationally toward real solutions without Wilders as public icon. LePen is pushing toward real solutions, and the current leaders of Hungary and Poland and Slovakia and Macedonia and Turkey are ALREADY implementing real solutions. They understand the problem ACCURATELY AND COHERENTLY.
Europe's current migration problem is an intentional invasion sponsored by Soros to create chaos. Every aspect of the migration is calculated to ruin European civilization.
Islam is not the problem. Soros and western imperialism are the problems.
Muslims and Christians have coexisted for centuries in the Balkans. They occasionally fight because the Balkans enjoy fighting "about religion", but the Muslim vs Christian fighting is no worse than the Orthodox vs Roman fighting, and the fight usually turns out to be more ethnic than religious. Just like the supposed Shia vs Sunni conflict, which is mostly Persians vs Arabs.
Wilders wants to ban mosques. Terrible idea. Guaranteed to INCREASE problems with Muslims because it criminalizes ordinary non-migrant Muslims who haven't been causing trouble. Classic AP behavior.
= = = = =
Mixed feelings the other way around: An EU court has reached a decision that is uncommonly sane and sensible. The headline makes it sound anti-Muslim: Top EU court rules employers have right to ban religious symbols. But the actual decision is a good balance of religion and commerce.
In Achbita’s case, the Court said it was for Belgian judges to determine whether she may have been a victim of indirect discrimination if the rule put people of a particular faith at a disadvantage. But the rule could still be justified if it was “genuinely pursued in a consistent and systematic manner” with a “legitimate aim”, such as projecting an “image of neutrality” as part of the company’s freedom to conduct business.
In the Bougnaoui case, the EU judges in Luxembourg said it was up to French courts to determine whether she was fired for failing to comply with a similar internal rule. If her dismissal was based only on meeting a particular customer’s preference, it saw “only very limited circumstances” in which a religious symbol could be objectively taken as reason for her not to work.
This will be good for Christians as well.
Doesn't matter much, because 99% of EU's actions are unimaginably satanic, out-Sorosing Soros. Still, it's interesting to observe exceptions.
Brexit firms up
First the "independent" traitorous courts tried to stop the process by requiring Parliament to vote on it. The Lower Nuthouse passed it easily. Today the Upper Nuthouse approved Brexit by a DECISIVE majority, without adding any of the poison pills that had been threatened.
Now May has an unobstructed mandate at the national level. Her negotiators can use the nation as bullypower against the EU. They'll need it.
Good luck and godspeed!

Well, not really self-organizingThe headline at RCS struck me as interesting: English Spelling Is More Organized Than Thought.
The article discusses convergence in spelling of suffixes, and postulates that spelling is 'self-organizing' because English has never been ruled by a central Academie.
We certainly have no evidence of such a conscious effort, even among grammarians. Instead, this is an instance of a system organizing itself.
I'll buy the convergence, but not itself.
This table shows convergence per century. Look at the last row. When did the convergence happen? After printing was well under way. Printing involved typesetters and proofreaders. Typesetters were organized in guilds from the start, which later turned into unions. As guild members matured through the journeyman stage, they were expected to move around and gain experience in different cities. Any printshop that deviated from the norm was pulled in by the journeymen serving as 'social media'.
Printed books were the biggest standardizing force. Most publishers were in London, so their dialectal variance was small to start with. Churches used the same Bible with the same spellings.
In America standardization was intentional and semi-official. Schools everywhere used the same spelling texts and dictionaries. Lexicographers tried hard to regularize spelling, and generally succeeded.
Harder questionsRobert Lanza nicely summarizes the thinking of Chamovitz on plant intelligence and awareness. It's a hard question but basically irresistible. If we acknowledge that dogs and cats and turtles are conscious, we can't stop there. We have to acknowledge plants.
The only LOGICAL line of demarcation is between ME and the rest of the world. I'm aware of my own awareness for sure. I know from talking with other humans that they claim to be aware. Their words sound similar to my internal description, so I accept their 'testimony'. As soon as I accept their 'testimony', I have to go the full distance. Animals, plants, bacteria, everything that has life must be aware.
Lanza doesn't take plant awareness to the next HARD step. Plants and many invertebrates reproduce by budding. Plants also generate fruits and pods that carry seeds.
Does a budded offspring contain only part of the parent's awareness? Does it regenerate a full awareness like a lizard regrowing a tail? Is the bud sharing the parent's awareness in some mysterious action-at-a-distance way? Identical twins might be able to answer this. Conjoined twins who share a brain have already told us how it feels. Lori and Dori talked about their shared awareness as something like a room with partitions. Each could choose to close off the partitions or 'blank out' the other part.
If the adult plant is aware, what about the seed?
We can draw a familiar analogy for seeds. A seed is a new being, just like an animal embryo, so a seed might have its own new awareness. There's a difference. An embryo doesn't go through a long waiting period. As soon as the sperm and egg unite, the embryo starts growing and proceeds directly toward adulthood. Seeds contain an embryo in a suspended condition that can last hundreds of years until the embryo detects the correct conditions to pop out and start rooting and sprouting. Intelligence is present through all those years, because the seed is always ready to sprout. It is aware during all those years? Asleep? Dreaming?
What about a fruit? The yummy tomato that I just ate contained a hundred seeds. Did I extinguish a hundred awarenesses by chomping and digesting them? The fruit itself has its own intelligence, responding quickly to environmental conditions and sending and receiving signals to bugs and other fruits. Did I extinguish it as well?
Since it was started........
The whole wiretapping thing is a stupid and unnecessary fight. Trump shouldn't have started it.
Since he did start it, he HAS TO do a better job of following through. When fake news demons ask Kellyanne for evidence, she should respond: "Where's your evidence for all those charges of Russian influence? You've never supplied even one piece of evidence. If there IS evidence for Russian contacts, which are perfectly normal anyway, the only way CIA could have acquired the evidence is by tapping the phones of the Trump team. So you have two choices. Either admit the whole Russia thing is false, or admit that you know about it because you were tapping our phones."

Bravo to Poland!
Poland's nationalist government is a shining example to the rest of the world on cultural matters, but has been reticent on trade and hesitant to oppose EU.
No more reticence!
In an extraordinarily savage attack on the entire euro project Warsaw’s foreign minister effectively accused the rest of the club of ganging up on his country and stabbing it in the back ...
Witold Waszczykowski vowed Poland would not go down without a fight, saying it would start vetoing major projects backed by other EU countries in revenge, a tactic which could completely paralyse the bloc.
An effective use of 'jury power'.
Polistra and friends salute Poland for the 3rd time!
(Or maybe the 3.5-th time, since Polistra was halfway named after Poland to begin with.)
Illegal independence
Since I focused on independent sources in previous item, here's an immediate misuse and corruption of the term independent.
When Trump fires or gives orders to Deepstaters, the Deepstaters protest that they are independent of executive authority.
The NY attorney made the claim yesterday. Earlier the Department of Energy claimed to be independent when Trump's admin was trying to SEE their work.
How do they get away with this nonsense?
US Attorneys are explicitly political appointees. They are W2 employees of the government, not 1099 contractors. They can be hired and fired and commanded by the elected government. This is NOT MYSTERIOUS.
The Energy DEPARTMENT is a DEPARTMENT within the executive branch. Its employees are W2 employees of the Executive branch. They can be hired and fired by THEIR EMPLOYER, which is the EXECUTIVE BRANCH. All of their work product is PUBLIC DOMAIN, open to public inspection and certainly open to inspection by THEIR EMPLOYER, which is the EXECUTIVE BRANCH.
For 200 years the criminals illegitimately posing as "Federal" "courts" have been asserting their independence, claiming absolute authority over the entire country. Again nonsense. Federal courts are created by Congress and thus subservient to Congress. Congress can delete them at any time. Their independence is an explicit and prima facie CRIME OF INFINITE TREASON which nobody has ever bothered to prosecute.
There are plenty of ways to be independent. A lawyer who wants to be independent can set up his own practice. An energy researcher who wants to be independent and secret can work for Greenpeace. When you work for the government you are NOT independent. You are supposed to help the government implement its agenda. That's why the government employs you.
In the spirit of previous item, you can LOOK UP THESE FACTS for yourself. You shouldn't take my word for it. Read the constitution and find laws.
