Ike was better than I thought!
I was doing the usual combox quibble thing with an article at Taki. The author wrote:

Low taxes, supporting Israel, and nation building totally works (it’s only fitting that Eisenhower Republicans see the world as if it’s still 1955).

While writing a standard combox quibble (Ike was for HIGH taxes and NON-intervention) I looked up the Suez thing. I vaguely remembered that Ike had refused to participate. The specifics are more interesting. The Suez thing started with Israel invading Egypt, helped by Britain and France. Ike halted the war by refusing to help, and by applying financial pressure against Britain. Why did he halt the war, essentially working on the same side as Russia?

Think of Syria this year. Russia is halting an invasion by Israel, Britain, France and US because OUR empire is dangerously reckless. We've already shown that we are perfectly ready to invade and bomb any country that is stable and civilized, because our bosses Israel and Soros love chaos and hate civilization.

Same script, slightly different characters. Israel, Britain and France are the same, US and Russia are reversed. This time Putin is Ike.

Next day: Trump's people may finally be turning toward Ike after two months of seamless BushObama regime-change lunacy. Both Haley and Tillerson have explicitly abandoned the BushObama insistence that Assad must be removed.

Who do we need to work with? We need to work with Russia, fuckhead. Ignore the Soros torpedoes and DO THE RIGHT FUCKING THING.

You won the election by promising to work with Russia when it's helpful. Since you won, the people who LOST have been accusing you of keeping your promise. Okay, show them that they're right. Keep your promise. Save millions of lives. The people who LOST aren't going to love you no matter what you do. Surrendering won't slow them down, it will only make them push harder.
