The anti-EU forces are ALREADY getting together in a natural way, forming ad hoc alliances and coalitions to fight Soros. Several countries have already switched sides officially, based on STRONG election results.

Conclusion:

ZH reprints a treacherous Sorosian dickhead recommending wider use of LSD to advance globalism.

Large parts of the world are being polarized at a rate rarely seen before, helped in no small measure by social media ‘filter bubbles’ and algorithms that divide people sharply along the lines of nationality or ideology, their underlying human connections rendered increasingly irrelevant. Perhaps such deep hatred and suspicion of the other was always there, but now it has taken center stage and is being used as a potent election strategy by populist and hyper-nationalist leaders the world over. Like herds of cattle, large numbers of people are being programmed and deployed as pawns for a larger agenda.

Therefore, perhaps real change begins with rewiring our perceptual framework. Psychedelic substances have been ingested sacramentally by indigenous cultures to achieve this goal since the dawn of time, and now they’re being validated by the scientific and medical communities. The shifts in consciousness that can be brought about by psychedelics can help in dissolving the man-made boundaries or fear of the other that are implanted in our collective psyche.

The first paragraph is true. Elites always rule by dividing. That's called POLITICS. Modern elites have vastly better cleavers. Every form of discontent is divided into plus and minus sides, and the pluses and minuses are organized via Facebook to pursue IMPOSSIBLE GOALS. Impossible goals guarantee addiction and perpetual increase of fervor and frenzy. Gotta try harder! Try harder!

The second paragraph is false and sneaky. This dickhead is telling us that using acid will lead us to peace and flowers and love. Wrong. Anyone who has actually USED acid knows that it leads to powerful paranoia.

Therefore: This dickhead is just another agent provocateur, mobilizing forces to work toward a SPECIFICALLY IMPOSSIBLE GOAL. The harder you try for peace and love, the more paranoid you get. Gotta try harder! Harder!

There's nothing wrong with SANE paranoia, based on experience and observation. When you know how a process works, or when you know how one type of human behaves, you know what to expect from the process or type. Sane paranoia requires leaving a little room for exceptions, because there are occasional exceptions. But when you see the unmistakable signature of a tyrannical trick, you can't leave any room at all.

Australia:

The Step Together helpline was launched in June by the New South Wales Minister for Counter Terrorism. Costing $3.05 million over three years, the initiative is part of a $36 million program aimed at fighting radicalization...

The helpline is marketed as an advice and counseling service, and is staffed by professional counsellors seven days a week from 7am to 9 pm. However, Elliot has now confirmed the helpline received "around five phone calls" in the two months since its launch, and its associated website a fairly paltry 800 visits. Unnamed sources told local media one call was a wrong number.

France:

The Pontourney center for "Reintegration and Citizenship" opened September 2016 with the aim of working with at-risk young people who had been exposed to radical ideologies.

In closing the center, France's Interior Ministry said the experiment "had not been conclusive" — perhaps an understatement, given the center had capacity for up to 25 people, but had been sitting empty since February, and only welcomed nine people in total over the course of its existence — none of whom completed the full program.

Shouldn't be surprising for two reasons.

1. The radical attitude is a NATURAL RESPONSE of a sane mind and moral soul to a totally crazy and evil environment. Sane and moral people turn radical because they are sane and moral. They don't see any reason to surrender to the infinite evil and infinite bonkersness of US/UK/EU.

2. Deepstate uses and manipulates the radical attitude to further destroy sanity and morality. It finds the weakest and most persuadable of the sane and moral crowd, and constructs a fake racket in which the youngster can "work for sanity and morality" by helping Deepstate to make sanity and morality look horrible.

Therefore: The strongest radicals can see through these "helplines" and avoid them along with the rest of Deepstate's infinite plague. Deepstate doesn't put much effort into these "helplines" because it understands the distinction between firm goodness and weak goodness.

In previous item on SI, I wrote

The French terrorists were beheading real scientists in the same year when they were imposing the metric system.

I normally write "terrorists" in quotes because the modern version is always a sting or false flag. I normally write "scientists" in quotes because the modern version is nearly always criminally fraudulent.

The French were not running a sting; they were deadly serious about eliminating real science; and they coined the word terrorist to describe themselves. Primary source doesn't need quote marks.

Question arises: How far back in history can we find modern false flags and modern false science?

Specifically, the FBI/CIA habit of inventing organizations and movements to provide a reason for slaughter?

Broadly speaking, deception is the norm in Nature and honesty is the rare outlier. Posing as something else is the default and being yourself is the exception. 80-20, maybe 90-10. Everything from viruses to insects poses as something else by genetic design. Smarter critters, mammals and birds and cephalopods, pose with design plus plenty of intelligence. Cephalopods do it best.

Thus we should start with the assumption that police or armies or philosophers / scientists have always used complicated deceptions.

History is magnificently clear on armies. Organized deception from the start. Fooling the enemy is always better than fighting the enemy. But a fake regiment to convince the enemy to surrender is NOT the same thing as a fake protest to gather Deplorables for slaughter.

There's much less written history for police.

Swift tells us that the London police used stings in the modern form, and in fact Swift helped with one of those stings, writing and publishing a fake confession by a gangster the police had just caught. The confession persuaded the gangster's subthugs that they were about to be grassed, so they would do better to turn themselves in.

Fraudulent science: Swift again! Laputa. Precisely the same as modern "science", and ruining the entire culture just as modern "science" does. But in this case Swift was writing satire, only part fact. In his time the fraudulent philosophers didn't actually run things.

Swift takes us back to the early 1700s on both questions, but I don't know of any earlier records. I'll keep looking.

Later, another question arises. How much deception is the norm INSIDE an organism? Pathogens and parasites always use deception to gain entrance and remain inside as illegal aliens. But what about internal stings? Do neurons ever pose as muscles to form synapses that otherwise wouldn't happen? Do endocrine glands send out false messages via hormones to increase their blood budget? Is pain a sting? (Immediate answer: Yes, sometimes, and I don't mean wasps.)

At the more abstract level, the brain devotes most of its time and energy to fraud, both helpful and harmful. Our optical and auditory image of the world is fiction written by the brain. Some of this fiction is necessary to work around defects in senses or gaps in knowledge, and some of it is harmful. The most harmful part is injected by external propagandists via conversation or media.... which brings us back to FBI/CIA again, and the bringing back brings us back to the universal circle.

So. Deception is a constant, not a variable. Appearance of honesty may be a smarter form of deception.

Despair? No. Sweeping away the meaningless variable leaves the bigger and better variable open for examination.

If honesty and falsehood are undefinable, how do you judge a belief system or a proposition? Direction of vector. Order vs chaos. Life vs death. MAKEFORCE. If this belief system or organization PROVABLY leads to more order, more value, more life, follow it. If this belief system or cult or organization isn't MAKING more value and life, toss it out.

How can PAID WRITERS and their PAID EDITORS be so totally insulated from all facts and reality that they can't even see the problem with their idiot story?

The online references to the poem agree on the actual poem (Adam had em) but disagree with my memory of the title and authorship. All online mentions say that the poem was improperly credited to Nash, but I read it in a book that was an anthology of Nash poems, published when Nash was alive and while the alleged other author was alive. Presumably the other author wouldn't have allowed the poem to be published and copyrighted in a Nash book. Most of the online refs think the title is simply 'Fleas', while others cite variations on 'Lines about Microbes' or 'Lines about Fleas'. The original title was LONG. Something like 'A disquisition on the historical prevalence and origin of Fleas'. That was the WHOLE POINT of the poem. Long title, short poem.

  Why the exception?
Speaking of O'Keefe, I'm beginning to wonder. He has certainly exposed the monster inside the media Dalek. He's been doing it for several years. Why is he still alive and unprosecuted?

Dozens of people who tried to expose the Clinton machine are dead. Nothing can ever harm the Clinton machine because everyone knows that the machine kills its enemies.

Assange and Snowden are under serious death threats and managed to acquire protection in sane countries, but have no chance of returning to normal life.

Daleiden is constantly prosecuted by demons in several different states. So far the prosecutions have been damped down by sane state judges, but some of the charges are still hanging over his head.

There was a lot of this in the first year after 9/11. It's subsided since in USA STRONG, but seems to be returning in EU thanks to an intentional migrant invasion.

Here's a fairly trivial example in Spokane:

Shalisha Israel, 68, had been harassing the family for several weeks based on their race and nationality. They called 911 because Israel was banging on their door and kicking their cars in the parking lot yelling racist remarks, according to court records. Court records said they believe she was preventing them from going to their cars and she was upset about their driving and national origin. ... Cell phone video was taken of Israel yelling things like, “You guys drug dealers or something,” and “I think you might be terrorists! This is not your America! You are evil!”

Reading between the poorly written lines, I get the sense that this lady is an all-around yeller and shouter, but in this case she picked the wrong target. She picked Current Enemy = Protected Class.

The government and media boil us into a froth of hatred against Current Enemy. They tell us to watch for Terrorist Sabotage by Current Enemy. They tell us "See something, say something." And when we actually do say something, the government and media punish us for terrorism against Protected Class.



I don't know if there's a proper name for this technique. It's not quite the same thing as Comrade O'Brien's Room 101, which destroys our contact with facts. This method is meant to obliterate our sense of justice. Most people naturally WANT to help the government fight crime and sabotage. When the government turns us into criminals for expressing this desire, we lose the will to fight anything. Of course that's the real purpose. Efficient self-slaughter of Deplorables. Genocide by LBO.

The other end of this technique is more directly deadly. The government is directly killing Current Enemy by the millions in other countries, punishing Current Enemy for the crime of being defined as Current Enemy. When Current Enemy gets annoyed at the injustice of being attacked for no proper reason, Current Enemy goes to Europe and tries to fight back. In that situation Current Enemy = Protected Class, and the Euro Deplorables are punished when they complain about being raped and murdered by Protected Class.

Last night's dream included a trick or device that happens often in dreams. I was driving from Enid to Stillwater on (real) highway 51. It was late at night in modern times, which means most businesses were vacant and abandoned. I was low on gas and needed to find a gas station, but all the gas stations were abandoned. Finally the KerMac SuperCenter appeared, brightly lit and clearly open. I stopped and filled up my Squareback.

The trick: Inside the dream I remembered filling up at this same KerMac SuperCenter in previous dreams. I knew it wasn't real-life, and I also knew for sure that this was a 'plagiarized' piece of standard dream material.

Was it? No way of knowing** unless I'd recorded the earlier dreams after waking. In this case I hadn't, so the repetition is totally unverifiable.

Closely resembles the deja-vu switch in waking life. Deja-vu turns on occasionally. While it's on, many events seem like repetitions of previous observations. Soon the switch turns off, and the distinction between fresh and repeated is clear again.

Also resembles an aspect of deliberate story-writing. When you invent a situation and place it into the 'frequent habit' slot, the previous iterations of the event fill in automatically in the writer's mind AND the reader's mind.

Clearly there's a special entry point for events that happen often. Given the amount of real input it takes to develop a REAL template for frequent events, you'd think it would be especially hard to FAKE a frequent event. But it's not. It's easier to retro-fill a habitual occurrence than a single unique occurrence.

Do propagandists understand this vulnerable entry point? Is this why the flat statement needing no explanation works so well?

** In this case there's circumstantial evidence against repetition or earlier invention. The KerMac SuperCenter had a KM logo on its sign. Thus it came from yesterday's reference to the DV gas station that I'd included in the Route 66 set. A two-letter station, transposed into Oklahoma, would be KM; transposing to modern times would inevitably become a KerMac SuperCenter. As always it's fun to watch the creative operations of the dream-scripter; but this particular set of creative transpositions was easily traceable to immediate thoughts.

Just figured something out with the help of a rather unpleasant dream**.

From the start I've been back-and-forth about the motives of Assange. His first revelations from Bradley Manning were completely non-news. Those messages from diplomats actually showed that diplomats are normal humans with normal emotions. Diplomats may sound disloyal at times, but they generally dislike the dictators they negotiate with. Basically PR for diplomats. The DNC load was not PR; it was clearly not wanted by the DNC. The latest CIA stuff may be chaff, but we can still see RESULTS from the release of the chaff.

And that's the key. Leakers have various motives, some noble and some nefarious. The MOTIVE of the leaker and the TEXT of the leak are irrelevant. The text may be real news or fake news, but we don't need to analyze the text. The REAL NEWS is the RESPONSES of insiders to the contents. We have to treat the leaks as test stimuli, like selective herbicides or classical music in public spaces. We have to do traffic analysis.

After the test chemical is sprayed, who goes on with business as usual? Who pops up and runs away?

With the Manning material, nobody quit, nobody changed their behavior. It was PR.

With the DNC material, we learned which parts of the conspiracy are INDISPENSABLE and which are DISPENSABLE. Nobody in the media quit or got fired or even changed their public attitudes after we saw specific evidence of their total obedience to Hillary. Several DNC employees got fired.

With the CIA material, we learned who was truly surprised by the hacking tools and who helped to design the tools. Cisco was surprised and took steps to fix the security holes. Apple and Google are completely unsurprised and unfazed.

The latest CIA release from Wikileaks is just plain FUN. Assange has the GOODS on Deepstate, and can parry every thrust by CIA.

Like all previous revelations, this isn't surprising. I know from direct experience that CIA has a longstanding habit of masking its sting operations as "Soviet fronts" or "Birchers". The "Chinese" and "Islamic" fronts are newer options following the same method. [Later for clarity: Some of these spies or radicals do exist in real life, especially the Chinese; but the more visible manifestations are usually CIA or FBI false flags.]




BUT: Thinking in hall-of-mirrors style, this is too much fun. The code is right out there in good straightforward C++, and I can 'run' it by eyeball easily.

This smells like overripe low-hanging fruit.

If I wanted to write a source-obscurer for spooks, I wouldn't want the source code for the source-obscurer to be so nice and eyeballable. I'd want several levels of obscurity in the source code for the source-obscurer. The original would be written directly in hex opcodes for the CPU, and the original would never be on disk or paper. I'd write it in RAM, set it loose, then smash the RAM. I'm sure real spooks could take the obscurity a dozen levels deeper than I can.

Counterthought: It's certainly possible that CIA has grown sloppy and cocky after several decades of controlling everything via two forms of blackmail: monetary threats by bankers and threats of violence by Sharpton and Soros NGOs. When you feel absolutely protected, you tend to stop locking your doors. This angle feels less likely but could be true.

Unsurprisingly, wiretappers FBI and NSA "didn't find any evidence" that wiretappers FBI and NSA had wiretapped Trump Tower.

WHAT DID TRUMP EXPECT?

Everyone knows that NSA monitors EVERYTHING, and everyone knows that NSA closely analyzes sources that could endanger its budget. When Trump got into politics he showed signs of wanting to pull back from total permanent war and chaOS, so he was a dangerous subversive who needed careful attention.

Everyone ALSO knows that you're not going to get any valid information from FBI or NSA or CIA. If you want information you need LEAKS.

The accusation would have been worth the trouble if Trump already had proof of the surveillance. It's not hard to acquire such proof. But he didn't.

Instead he violated two basic rules of human nature. Don't start a war you can't finish, and don't make accusations you can't prove.

ESPECIALLY when the opposition is devoting all of its attention to the false accusation of "Russian meddling". The cure for a false accuser is to stand back, shut up, and help the truth to appear on its own. Making your own unprovable accusation DESTROYS your ability to point out the opposition's lies.

I'm still TRYING to avoid the obvious conclusion that Trump is a false flag for Deepstate, but at this point I can't find any good evidence against the conclusion.

In the end it doesn't matter if he's a false flag or a hopeless idiot. Globalism has destroyed itself by overreaching. Even if Trump is working for Goldman, there's nothing left for Goldman to globalize and securitize. The EU side is rapidly losing momentum. Brexit is firm. Putin has broken the Soros bubble, and there's no way to reinflate it.

Watching the Dutch election with mixed feelings. Wilders smells like an Agent Provocateur to me. He is definitely on the Populist side but he seems to be fulfilling the elite caricature of Populists. More anti-Muslim than anti-migration or anti-trade.

Nationalism will move more cleanly and rationally toward real solutions without Wilders as public icon. LePen is pushing toward real solutions, and the current leaders of Hungary and Poland and Slovakia and Macedonia and Turkey are ALREADY implementing real solutions. They understand the problem ACCURATELY AND COHERENTLY.

Europe's current migration problem is an intentional invasion sponsored by Soros to create chaos. Every aspect of the migration is calculated to ruin European civilization.

Islam is not the problem. Soros and western imperialism are the problems.

Muslims and Christians have coexisted for centuries in the Balkans. They occasionally fight because the Balkans enjoy fighting "about religion", but the Muslim vs Christian fighting is no worse than the Orthodox vs Roman fighting, and the fight usually turns out to be more ethnic than religious. Just like the supposed Shia vs Sunni conflict, which is mostly Persians vs Arabs.

Wilders wants to ban mosques. Terrible idea. Guaranteed to INCREASE problems with Muslims because it criminalizes ordinary non-migrant Muslims who haven't been causing trouble. Classic AP behavior.

Mixed feelings the other way around: An EU court has reached a decision that is uncommonly sane and sensible. The headline makes it sound anti-Muslim: Top EU court rules employers have right to ban religious symbols. But the actual decision is a good balance of religion and commerce.

In Achbita’s case, the Court said it was for Belgian judges to determine whether she may have been a victim of indirect discrimination if the rule put people of a particular faith at a disadvantage. But the rule could still be justified if it was “genuinely pursued in a consistent and systematic manner” with a “legitimate aim”, such as projecting an “image of neutrality” as part of the company’s freedom to conduct business.

In the Bougnaoui case, the EU judges in Luxembourg said it was up to French courts to determine whether she was fired for failing to comply with a similar internal rule. If her dismissal was based only on meeting a particular customer’s preference, it saw “only very limited circumstances” in which a religious symbol could be objectively taken as reason for her not to work.

This will be good for Christians as well.

Doesn't matter much, because 99% of EU's actions are unimaginably satanic, out-Sorosing Soros. Still, it's interesting to observe exceptions.

  Does this explain it? I thought so, but no.
Why am I so consistently pissed at tech-tyrant types? Because they OUGHT TO KNOW BETTER. They madly support tyranny and ferociously defend CIA and NSA. They "work" for privacy by deploying encryption and Bitcoin. Encryption is NSA's specialty. Bitcoin shows all the marks of being a false flag by the intel agencies, and even if it's not, it still passes directly through NSA's servers.

You can't have it both ways. If you really want privacy, stop talking and spending DIRECTLY through NSA.

How can they be so dumb? It has to be a generational thing. When you've grown up inside the digital fishbowl you can't describe water. Older techies started with analog, which is intrinsically decoupled.

Still, analog thinking doesn't automatically prepare you to detect the obvious machinations of clandestine agencies.



Convective thought, spurred by noticing an old shortwave magazine: It's not just analog, it's SHORTWAVE.

Growing up with shortwave, listening and hamming**, I routinely encountered spy stations and clandestine "underground" broadcasts.



Here I've slopped together several pages from a 1956 guide, at a time when US and USSR were supposedly battling for dominance. China was the real enemy of both. Most of the frequencies on these pages are outside the semi-official SW broadcast bands. Clandestines often transmitted off-band to provide a flavor of illegality.

Listeners understood that the FLAVOR was often fake. We understood false flagging and spoofing. We also understood that the regular official in-band stations were all engaged in propaganda. We treated VOA and BBC and Moscow and Peking on equal footing, examining the truth claims of each.

You can see several obvious 'clandestines' here: Voice of Revolutionary Party for Reunification, Pathet Lao, Fukien Front Station, Radio Freies Tirol, Espana Independiente, Radio Free Russia, Radio Free Portugal.

The Fukien Front stations were especially common in this list. I didn't recognize the name. Looked it up and found very little online. A couple of vague refs in newspapers, and this footnote in an obscure textbook.



In other words, it was part of the battle between Chiang and Mao, focused at that time on Quemoy and Matsu. One word tells me who owned the clandestines. Dulles.

BUT: No, this still doesn't explain why the modern techies are so impenetrably obtuse. Modern propaganda and modern clandestines are STILL easy to recognize, and there's plenty of information available to help you spot the false flags.

It must be the fishbowl after all. Radio and print are naturally independent. You can send and receive shortwave signals, and you can print and read samizdat, without being PART of the government's system. Governments have always sent and printed their own propaganda and monitored dissidents, but the governments were just USING the ether along with the rest of us. They didn't OWN the ether. In the digital world, NSA owns the ether and provides lots of tools to help you DYSUNDERSTAND the situation.

** Footnote: In the 50s and 60s there was a strong overlap between hams and Birchers. A local ARRL meeting and a local JBS meeting looked similar. Not surprising ... when you observe how the world works, you want to do something about it. In 1970 the Birchers were turned out by Roy Cohn. Birchers who stayed in after the trans surgery were the same sort of fools as modern tech-tyrants. "Rebels" helping Deepstate to make real rebels look crazy.

Just noticed: This is the second time I got seduced into thinking a politician might be somewhat less than evil, and the second time I was UNseduced by Al Gore. The 9/11 scam fooled me into supporting Bush The Son for a few years. I kept defending him, thinking that he must have something good in mind even though all of his actions were bad. Surely there's a good reason for attacking Iraq and Afghanistan instead of obliterating the country that attacked us. Must be poor communication, poor messaging.

Seeing a connection with Al Gore was the last straw in 2006. Gore had been proposing that we should sell some port facilities to the Saudis. Surely Bush would turn that down. Nope. Last straw.

And now Al Gore is the last straw again in 2016. This seduction was much shorter and much more cautious, but nevertheless it was a seduction. In this case the Al Gore connection is perfectly direct, not just an observed similarity. In this case the scam is far more vicious, a sting operation to EXTERMINATE half the country.

Time to return to default Soviet Citizen mode, the same place I was in before this momentary distraction.

On the surface the Sorosian pollsters are doing a somewhat better job of soul-searching than the Sorosian media. At least they seem to understand negative feedback. When your result is wrong you don't try to make it even wronger. You try to make it righter. When you're heading for the cliff you hit the brake, not the gas.

Unfortunately the problem is out of their control. No adjustment of internal methods will help.

They're still assuming obsolete phenomena like "free speech" when designing their polls. In UK/EU/US, "free speech" no longer exists. Unfashionable people understand that unfashionable speech gets us into REAL trouble. We will lose our job or reputation or life. We know that pollsters work for the fashionable, which means the pollsters WILL report an improper response to the Thought Police.

They're also assuming that anonymity exists. Again we know better. In the digital era, any single piece of information leads instantly to an entire picture of your identity and personality. Even if the pollster doesn't call us by name, we're accustomed to other cold callers knowing everything about us from the start.

Puzzle: Given these external limitations, why does anybody still PAY for a poll? Do the Chosen actually enjoy being STUNNED by an unanticipated result? Why did the DNC order pollsters to oversample segments of the population in order to give a false positive indication? Shouldn't they be trying for an accurate prediction?

Solution: Apply Polistra's Rule of Inferred Intent. There are no unanticipated results. Ignore words. The result is what the authorities want.

Therefore the Chosen WANT to be STUNNED.

Why? That's easy. Because a STUN is an assault. When the Deplorables STUN you, the Deplorables have attacked you by definition, and you can counterattack with more poverty and starvation and imprisonment and genocide. That's how the Chosen operate in all realms. Create a "terrorist" or a "threat" or a STUN, then EXTERMINATE the "problems" you created.

I'm still not convinced that Trump is not a false flag. If he takes office and actually starts changing things, we'll know he's real.

At the moment it looks like he was allowed to "win" as a sting. Bring the Deplorables out into the open so they can be ID'd and exterminated.

The students wore shirts with phrases from the president-elect written on them in silent protest. "They asked us what we were trying to get from this," said junior Jill Lambie. The students said everyone, including the staff, were overwhelmingly supportive. Parents said they approved of the kids speaking up, and the way they did it.

  What are you paying for?
Still feeling somewhat guilty for using Brüel & Kjær when I could have pushed for GenRad, I decided to make a small votive offering to the Made In USA gods, who are also the analog gods. Found a GenRad sound level meter on Ebay from a vendor in Kansas, bought it for $50.



This one is about 20 years old. It was used by the Kansas Dept of Transportation, probably for highway noise abatement studies. Note the calibration sticker from 2004. Presumably the Ebay vendor bought it at a state gov't surplus auction.

SLMs aren't especially exciting or complicated. I bought a similar-looking Chinese unit from Radio Shack back in the '90s for the same $50. New Chinese SLMs of similar specs are still in the $50 range.

This GenRad unit is higher quality than the Radio Shack SLM. Claims to be made in USA. Satisfyingly hefty and still working perfectly. The pouch is real leather. Based on those differences, I guessed the price of a new unit should be around $300.

What's the actual GenRad price?

What are you paying for?

Simple answer: Legal authority. Chain of evidence. Bully power. When you buy new from GR and maintain calibration through GR, you can use the readings in court. That's why the Kansas DOT buys from GR instead of using cheap Chinese meters. They have to be prepared to defend all of their decisions against a Soros-powered environmental group, or against a JPMorgan-powered corporation. Noise readings are a minor part of those defenses, but even noise readings have to stand up in court.

Direct parallel to medical costs. When a doctor tells you to buy a Mylan EpiPen for $700, the doctor is comparatively safe because Mylan has performed all the FDA nonsense. If the doc told you to buy an equivalent EpiPen through Craigslist for $10, he wouldn't be safe from lawyers.

This is the dominant form of 'economic rent' in USA STRONG. It's a Tribal protection racket, indistinguishable from the older Italian version. Syndicate creates a threat, then charges citizens to avoid the threat.

Well, there is one difference. The Tribal syndicate has an iron grip on all levels of government, while the Italian syndicate was only able to buy some parts of some city governments. So there's no Bunco Squad available to counteract this racket.

June 2020 footnote: I finally made this SLM useful. I don't really need to take noise readings. I bought it partly as gratitude to GenRad, and partly for the sound output, thinking it would serve as a microphone. At first I couldn't make the output work, so I assumed it was broken, or maybe it wasn't really meant to be a sound output. The SLM stayed on the shelf for 4 years. Finally this year I got bored enough to try it again with different plugs and cables. The jack is a 'micro' size, and it's recessed behind a D-shaped plastic hole, so most plugs can't get in. I suspect it was meant to take a proprietary GenRad plug, like the similarly official Webster Chicago wire recorder. After I found the right narrow-handled plug, the SLM turns out to be a splendid microphone, putting out lots of voltage to satisfy the computer's input. No hum or hiss, and the weighting buttons filter the sound in different ways. Rediscovering or rejuvenating a forgotten item is one of life's outstanding pleasures.
