Constants and variables 125, trailing racket edition
I occasionally receive emails from an academic open-source outfit carrying PDFs of various articles about criminology. Most are pure shit, but today's offering had a bit of useful info that helped to solve half of a puzzle.

Our media formerly helped us to recognize and defend against rackets and scams. Sometime around 1974 this emphasis faded. Now that everything is a racket, we're not supposed to defend ourselves.

Today's article explains how and when the media emphasis started. Around 1940, "social" "science" decided to start examining white-collar crime in the same way as ordinary crime. "Sociologists" were behind the trend, since FDR had already formed the equivalence in real laws and regulations.

From the emailed article:

Sutherland’s approach in White-Collar Crime (1949) helped move the field beyond the legal formalism that Sellin critiqued by arguing that regulatory violations could also constitute a type of unlawful, yet not necessarily criminal, behavior – thus justifying a criminological analysis. Considering these unlawful behaviors to be white-collar crimes was important because of their propensity to produce social harms capable of exceeding traditional crime. Indeed, it is the truly social nature of these harms that make them particularly dangerous. As Sutherland suggested, the financial loss from white-collar crime, great as it is, is less important than the damage to social relations. White-collar crimes violate trust and therefore create distrust, which lowers social morale and produces social disorganization on a large scale.

FBI's radio outlet echoed this text in a 1952 episode:

Occasionally it is possible to remove the ill after-effects of a crime. When a criminal is apprehended after a burglary, for instance, and his loot is returned intact to the victim, nobody is penalized except the lawbreaker.

Such complete restitution is never possible in the case of one particular criminal: the impostor. He usually works with forged credentials or false letters of introduction from well-known people. Even after the impostor is apprehended, he leaves in his wake a wave of suspicion, a feeling by his victims that never again will they be able to believe anyone.

After quoting Sutherland, the author descends into typical modern ratshit about privileging and social constructs, so the rest of the article is useless.

The start of media concern about white-collar crime was a trailing variable. FDR clamped down on NYC in the '30s, and the "social" "scientists" picked up the ball in the '40s, followed shortly by the media.

Was the end also a response to government shifts? I don't think so. The point of inflection in culture and "science" and media was 1974, marked by the Watergate coup. After 1974, the Maoists (who later became Sorosians) owned everything. The media was at the leading edge of this change. Government enforcement agencies like SEC and FTC partly surrendered in the 80s, then finally in 1999.

Now white-collar crime is required, not prohibited. When agencies are given a chance to respond to obvious violations of their own regulations, they put on reasonableness pants instead.

  Graybill and nuclear power
The sudden change of government inside Saudi is unquestionably the BIG news of the week, maybe the year.

Talal has been the main connecting cable between Saudi and US neocons. Now that he's out, the war machine will at least run a little slower, and maybe halt entirely.

Saudi has been moving away from USA STRONG and toward Russia/China for a year or so. This internal shift will accelerate the move.

While USA STRONG continues to rule by massacre and genocide, Russia and China have been building COMMERCIAL allies in all parts of the world for several years.

One especially interesting move is Russia's simultaneous bidding to build nuclear power in BOTH Saudi and Persia. Construction has already started in Persia.

RUSSIA GETS THINGS DONE. No 10-year licensing process followed by 10-year environmental studies followed by 10-year diversity compliance studies followed by 500-year pointless delays. Just sign the contract, pay the money, and construction starts.**

Think: Saudi and Persia have an old ethnic dispute disguised as a religious dispute, and they are also major competitors in the oil business.

If both countries lose their sole dependence on oil, the real competition will fade out.

Good old Graybill. Under a globalist system each country has exactly one resource, one skill. The globalist rulers reduce slave countries to one resource for total control. When you have no alternative sources of money, you MUST OBEY the sole buyer of your sole offering.

Russia has already learned the Graybill lesson for itself, as USA STRONG sanctions led to fast redevelopment of agriculture and industry. Now Russia is helping other countries to conquer Graybill, which means that they will no longer be totally controllable by USA STRONG.

** This is an aspect of the switchover that I hadn't properly noticed. Pre-switchover, or more precisely pre-1974, USA got things done and Russia was locked in bureaucratic ropes. Every move took dozens of bureaucratic approvals and years of meaningless waiting. Between 1974 and 1989 both sides were gummed up. Now Russia is the gitrdone side and USA STRONG is fully strangled = dead.

  One look at the 1974 coup
Previous item got me thinking again about the 1974 coup. What were the immediate results?

A 1976 document by Dept of Commerce included lots of info on demographics. One table showed 'Confidence in the people running selected institutions'.

I used Excel, clumsily as usual, to form a graph from the survey.

Within each category, the four bars are data from 73, 74, 75, and 76. Each bar is differential satisfaction, specifically "A great deal of satisfaction" minus "Hardly any".



Essentially the Watergate coup destroyed Nixon and displaced the people's confidence to EVERYTHING BUT Nixon. The only oddities are the press, which didn't seem to gain or lose, and Congress, which lost a bit. Everyone else either gained big in '74, or didn't lose as much as they would have lost by the trend.

It's tempting to compare this to Mueller's attempted Watergate, but I don't think the comparison works. The media's motivation is the same. Raw hatred and psychopathic omnicidal murder toward ordinary Americans. The motivation of politicians is the same. But Trump isn't Nixon, and the public attitude toward media and politicians started from a vastly different baseline this time. Most of us know now that the media is Satan and all politicians are grotesque monsters. Partisan bots are blindly loyal to their respective "sides", but they're not the majority or the norm.

What was Nixon's crime? Trademark usurpation. He copied LBJ's dirty tricks. He copied LBJ's war and welfare policies, and added many leftist goals (EPA, negative income tax, affirmative action, abortion) that LBJ hadn't managed to achieve. He crashed our economy to serve Israel. All of those actions were SUPPOSED to be D actions, but Nixon did them while wearing the R label. He had to be obliterated.

  That 1974 CIA document
Very interesting reading. Thanks to Omniclimate, who found it in a paper library and scanned it!

What strikes me especially: Though the document shows when governments figured out that they could use climate as a tool to increase their tyranny, it does not show intentionally false science.

The 1974 fear was based on temperatures that appeared to be trending downward.


And the document runs through history, showing correctly that colder times were not good for humanity, while warmer times were good.


This trend toward a hard time is connected with the needs of governments:


Their attitude toward science is objective and humble, listing a number of approaches to climatology but not trying to attribute a human cause. The Hadley Centre is mentioned, but not as the primary driving force:


In short, the document described an honestly visible trend with genuinely dangerous consequences, and used a proper scientific attitude when describing the trend.

With one exception: they list specific problems like floods, droughts, hurricanes and tornados, implying that these problems are caused by cooling. Today's warmists, of course, list the same problems and claim they're caused by warming. Neither connection is provable ... but I'd put more money on connecting floods and droughts with cooling. Floods and droughts result from rain staying in one place too long. This fits more closely with an under-energized atmosphere, while an overheated atmosphere keeps everything moving.

I'd like to know how all of this flipped into the current criminal conspiracy, using false "history" and terrible "science" to destroy Western civilization. Somewhere around 1988, perhaps under an impetus from Maggie Thatcher, the British and American envirotyrants (who were already plenty powerful) grabbed onto the then-apparent warming trend, and the Enron types picked it up as a money tree. Chinese Spy Maurice Strong was a key operator in this switch-over, but we still don't know how his singular influence was parlayed into the largest criminal conspiracy in history.

The supreme irony: After the brief warming of the '80s and '90s, it appears that we are now resuming the fall toward cold, i.e. genuinely bad conditions. And our all-encompassing set of fucking fools, the murderous "scientists" and the fraudulent "journalists" and every major "religous" leader and all "educators" and all tyrannical governments and the infinitely greedy Wall Street Mafia, are conspiring to cool things down even faster, conspiring to destroy civilization rapidly before the next Little Ice Age destroys it slowly. This is pre-emptive genosuicide.

  The carbon that roared
Yet another infinitely repetitive meeting of rich and poor, using "Global Warming" as the charity scam. One more way to transfer wealth from the poor in rich countries to the rich dictators of poor countries. An old script. See 'Scoop' or 'Mouse That Roared'.

It's already ancient within the "Global Warming" scam itself. The 1974 founding document of the crime proposes international mechanisms for transferring wealth from the poor in rich countries to the rich dictators of poor countries. Of course the pseudoscience was different then. The beautifully deceased Stephen Schneider wrote: "Polar cooling (whose progress up to 1972 is shown in Figure 10) may correlate with greater frequency of extremes of drought, flooding, and other anomalies, and with dislocations of the larger circulations that could have particularly serious implications for ... marginal lands." Now they're saying the same thing about polar warming.

Hmm. Could we be seeing CYCLES? Could it be that conditions observed at BOTH EXTREMES of the cycle have "greater frequency of EXTREMES" than conditions in the MIDDLE of the cycle? Nah. Nothing works that way. Never seen it before. Everyone knows that the sun rose exactly once, and has continued to rise higher and higher in the sky ever since. Everyone knows that cars move by excreting an endless stream of slime. Those round things on the bottom of a car are slime-glands. Their apparent "rotation" is just an optical illusion, because "rotation" is a myth.

But there's an interesting development in recent iterations of this particular charity scam. The rich countries are actually getting tired of the poor beggars, and are telling the poor to Get A Haircut And Get A Job!

The real problem is outside of this argument. Get A Haircut And Get A Job is a valid command when JOBS THAT POOR PEOPLE CAN DO are available.

But such jobs are no longer available, at least within the context of West-based globalization. A country like Congo has nothing the West needs except diamonds and minerals. Those commodities can be extracted with very little participation by Congolese citizens.

The real problem has nothing to do with "global warming" and everything to do with financialized economies that assume infinite linear expansion. Linear speculations can't be infinite. Linear booms always bust disastrously. The boom-bust ratchet leads to monopolies and consolidation, followed by total collapse or total government bailout.

This evil mess of total abstraction leaves no room for normal expansion of REAL VALUE. In a real-value system, where investors can't simply suck Janet's dead gray titties, investors must spend money to create new sources of gain. When investors are seeking a wide variety of sources, SOME of those sources will be in poor countries with clever people and good land. After those clever people get started toward self-sufficiency, they will be able to break loose from their idiot dictators with their idiot scripts.

  Three actions
To recover industry and bring back proper use and payment for SKILLS, we need three steps.

(1) Bring back tariffs and borders.

(2) Eliminate environmental laws and lawsuits that make real industry impossible. Dissolve the EPA, delete "endangered species" laws. Return to FACTUAL science.

(3) Radically cut universities, replace with tech training and apprenticeships.

None of these steps are new or experimental. We know all of them work because we were DOING THE RIGHT THINGS from 1936 to 1974. During that period we had prosperity and "well-used" skills.

Trump and Sanders are both handling (1)tariffs pretty well. Trump appears to understand (2)EPA but doesn't talk much about (3)education. He seems to follow the usual Repoof line against Common Core, which puts him on the wrong side. Sanders is murderously wrong on both (2)EPA and (3)education. Sanders wants to destroy even more industry with harsher EPA rules, and wants to make college even crazier and more mandatory.

Free trade and environmentalism began TOGETHER in the '70s, two coordinated fronts in a genocidal war on nations and sanity and civilization. The drive toward useless abstraction began MUCH earlier. Reposting a 'manifesto' by John Anderson, who took over as president of K-State after a revolt against abstraction by populist farmers in 1873.


Emphasizing the last paragraph:

"Whatever else may yet need to be tried, there is no use in repeating the experiment of flying a literary kite with an agricultural tail, so often made in various quarters. It is a pleasant regential and professorial amusement, and quite attractive to an immediate locality; but there is nothing in it for the industrial student, whose estate pays for the kite."

Anderson managed to fight the trend for a while, but eventually K-State surrendered to the literary kite.

  Dictate what you know
Most politicians have a single theme, a single solution that stands for everything else. With Trump, it's BUILD A WALL, standing for all the literal and figurative borders and walls and boundaries that have been ripped up in the last 30 years.

Some themes are too simple, like Forbes's FLAT TAX. He didn't use the proposal as an icon for a broader way of thinking. He just wanted FLAT TAX and nothing more. FLAT TAX wouldn't solve anything, and Forbes didn't even try to pretend it would.

If I had a chance to be Commissar For Wall-Building in Science and Education, how would I do it? Literal walls don't make sense. What is a figurative wall in this context, and how would I build it?

Easy. Two words.

NO STATS.

Stats, ESPECIALLY MEANS, blur the distinctions between groups of people and groups of observations. That's THE WHOLE POINT AND PURPOSE OF STATS. A mean is a wall-crasher by definition and purpose.

Instead of stats, use nothing but GRAPHS to report and display data. All graphs must include the time axis. Since we have these new-fangled Electric Brain gadgets now, you should use ANIMATED AND INTERACTIVE GRAPHS as much as possible.

I'd take it further to enforce the whole worldview of METROLOGY. Know your baseline, distinguish constants and variables, calibrate your observations. Don't go beyond what your observations show. Find patterns if patterns exist, but NO STATS and NO THEORIES.

All of this would start with eliminating the MEAN. Every use of the mean helps the rich to deceive the poor, and helps experts to scam the non-experts.

How does the mean disguise differences among people? Here's a nice simple example, without any emotional loading, from today's clickbait in UK Telegraph.

Sales of liver and other offal have collapsed, from more than 50g per person per week in 1974 to just 5g in 2014, reflecting a move away from traditional butchers to pre-packed supermarket meat.

Nobody eats 50 grams of liver per week. Nobody eats 5 grams of liver per week. This mean disguises the real point. PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT. Some people like to eat liver, most don't. Liver lovers consume about a pound per week. Liver lovers are getting sparser, probably by attrition. Everyone else eats exactly zero liver in a lifetime. The important figure is not mean weekly consumption but how many people are liver lovers. The mean doesn't take you anywhere near this info.

You get a similar distortion in a more important set of info when you use means for employment and income. "Mean income is $28K" tells you LESS THAN NOTHING because a mean is pulled up by the huge numbers in the plutocrat zone. The proper numbers are more detailed, requiring a graph to visualize. And when you see the graph, you INSTANTLY AND VIOLENTLY detect the fraud. Just like liver, the important figure is how many people are working, or how many people have money at all. Some people work full-time, most don't. Some people have lots of money, most have lots of debt. The number of full-time employees is shrinking, and the typical wage for MOST of those employees is also shrinking.

The "global warming" crime is possible because the criminals use stats. The criminals use mean global temperature to mush up a complex set of changes in water and air currents. When you see the changes in DEEP OCEAN water currents, you understand that Evil KKKarbon can't possibly be causing it. As soon as you see a GRAPH of temperature and CO2 against time, you can INSTANTLY AND VIOLENTLY detect the fraud. Neither of these pictures tells us what's actually happening, but both direct our attention toward the earth's core and magnetosphere, not the mean concentration of one tiny chemical component of the atmosphere.

Via ZH, Bloomberg shows his typical NYC ignorance of the real world.

"I could teach anybody, even the people in this room" to be a farmer, said Bloomberg during a 2016 talk at Oxford University in a now-viral clip in which he called agriculture a process. "You dig a hole, you put a seed in, you put dirt on top, add water, up comes the corn."

Bloomberg then described metalworkers similarly.

"You put the piece of metal in the lathe, you turn the crank in the direction of the arrow, and you can have a job."

Working in the information economy is “fundamentally different, because it’s built around replacing people with technology and the skill sets that you have to learn are how to think and analyze. And that is a whole degree level different. You have to have a different skill set, you have to have a lot more gray matter.”

Jesus.

Farming is the deepest and most educated skill in the world. It takes many generations to develop a good farm and a good farmer, and the two must develop together.

Bloomberg not only displayed his own typical NYC decorticate vacuous cranial cavity, he made a reverse comparison with the "information economy". Farming and metal work have been computerized longer than just about anything else.

The first time I saw a desktop computer was in 1974 at Parsons Grain Company. I was working for an elevator repair firm, and I had delivered some of our equipment to the elevator. As I was waiting to fill out forms, Mr Parsons proudly showed me his completely computerized loading and storage system, and his web-connected computer to keep track of grain prices and futures. At that time I'd never seen a computer in actual use; I'd only seen the mainframes in university facilities.

Metalwork has been computerized MUCH longer. From Wikipedia's history of CNC machine tools:

1. Dr Stupid doesn't understand how impeachment works. He thinks impeachment will revert to Hillary, not Pence.

2. Dr Stupid doesn't understand how the government works. He believes Trump has power.

3. Dr Stupid believes that Trump is "doing" something unprecedented and new to ruin the world. In fact Trump is not doing anything. The government continues doing exactly what it's been doing since 1974, obliterating everything except NYC and Israel. Trump's job is to make populists look horrible. That's all he does.

Several articles lately have been noticing 2015 as an inflection point in Deepstate's Long March to exterminate all Untermenschen. I had noticed the same thing. It wasn't a major inflection like 1946 or 1974 or 2020. Nevertheless, something was turned on in 2015. Cancel culture got stronger, and the "medical" holocaust shifted into second gear.

Here's the moment when I noticed something, in Oct 2014. The item was titled 'Public health hits home'.

Yesterday was my annual physical checkup.

The human side of Group Health is wonderful. Highly sensible doctor and warm nurse. I'd been anxious for several days because I'm the anxious type, but all is OK. All tests in normal range. At age 64, that's reason for (frugal) jubilation. Diet and exercise do make a difference.

They pushed me to get a flu shot. Normally I decline such automatic precautions, but went ahead and got poked this time, mainly because I've been vituperating about public health lately. Figured I should put my veins where my mouth is.

The official side of Group Health is atrocious. All sorts of strange rules. Holding my BP prescription hostage to force an annual checkup. Charging $200 extra per month simply because Romneycare allows them to do it. And one new questionnaire that justified my vituperation. The questionnaire includes the notorious question about gun ownership, and a bizarre question about sexual harassment that didn't even make sense. I wrote NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS on those.

One question they DIDN'T ask was "Have you traveled out of the US recently?" I'm not the traveling type ... last time I left the Spokane metro area was 1998 ... but they wouldn't know that without asking. Travel would be a truly relevant and important public health question, unlike gun ownership and sexual harassment.

Those questions they DID ask are explicit parts of a long-standing campaign by Centers for Dissident Control to make civilization into a disease. All normal human beliefs, especially traditional or religious beliefs, must be OBLITERATED just as smallpox was obliterated.

Ebola? Nah, that's not a public health concern. Nowhere near as urgent as religion and civilization. CDC doesn't feel any particular urgency about Ebola. Much more important to avoid offending Al Sharpton. And so far they've done a perfect job on that front. Not a peep from Al or Jesse.

  Poor metaphor yields good info
Pepe Escobar wrote a nicely-formed fable about the sane countries, using various rock-n-roll bands as metaphors. I know absolutely nothing about rock-n-roll, so those metaphors went way over my head.

The non-metaphorical parts are an important summary of the relationships between the sane countries, listing and describing the various agreements and treaties and new pipelines and railways and roads and bridges connecting the Silk Road. The actual construction is IMPRESSIVE. Europe and US can't even maintain our own roads and bridges and dams, let alone build new. We're too busy tearing shit down.

Only one of the metaphors was indirectly classical, so I could understand it. Unfortunately it was completely inappropriate. Presumably Escobar knows classical the same way I know rock-n-roll.

The miss:

So what will The Sanctioned come up next? A doozy like Deep Purple without Gillan and Blackmore or an epic like ELP’s Fanfare for the Common Man?

The Fanfare for the Common Man geoeconomic scenario reads like this.....

Well, I'm not sure what an ELP is, but I know the Fanfare was written by Copland, who is the PERFECT representative of US Deepstate. He belongs to all the Deepstate categories. He is a perfectly wrong metaphor in the context of sanity.

Hey! Given that he was the perfect representative, was he an actual asset for CIA?

YES. The Wikileaks archive helps here because he was an asset during the years covered by the archive. There are a dozen different memos from USIA and State, who were the coordinators of Deepstate's chaos generator program. Copland made several tours for them, and they were busy clearing the path for him to insure his chaos had the maximum effect.

  Parkinson Rex
The birds seem to think autumn is approaching. They're clubbing this morning to discuss travel plans. I don't feel any sign of autumn yet. Rex has been in full command of the NW this summer, only letting go for a few scattered days. The Weather Bureau thinks the 90s will break again, maybe for good?? later this week. Hope so.

Ma Nature needs to get her ass in gear and kick Rex out of town.

Weather has been ruled by Parkinson, self-reinforcing highs and lows with no negative feedback, at least since 2005. Jet streams are pinned in place. This pattern happens every 20 years or so; late 30s, early 50s, early 70s, and now a much longer pindown. Every time the pindown happens it leads to floods and droughts.

The pindown times and mobile times are probably responding to magnetic patterns. Earth's magnetic field had a major mode shift in 1974, and weather followed, and human thought patterns also followed. Globalism, total Parkinson, had been building its power since 1946 and grabbed most of the control levers in '74.

At the level of human thoughts and powers the unipolarity is finally breaking down thanks to Putin. Nature abhors unipolar structures and NEVER builds things that way. All cells, organs, organisms, and communities of organisms, have infinite layers of negative feedback. Excitation vs inhibition at all scales to PREVENT monstrosities like USA STRONG or cancer from taking total control of the system.

Emerson: Though no checks to a new evil appear, the checks exist and will appear.

Putin understands his role as the check, the inhibitory synapse, the counterbalance to Soros. This speech shows his intent to run the inhibitory side of the world in accordance with Nature.

Idiot Civic Engagement types are always telling us that we need to "Vote", whatever the fuck that means, so we can "Hold Government Accountable", whatever the fuck that means.

In my 65 years on this earth, I've only observed ONE INSTANCE when "We The People" actually did Hold The Government Accountable.



1974. Congress, blindly obeying Comrade Nader and his hagminion Joan Claybrook, required cars to include shoulder belts, which was a good idea ... and also required the cars to FORCE you to use the belts, which was a terrible idea.

Detroit made shoulder belts unspeakably inconvenient. You had to disentangle several dozen belt parts, figure out which two pieces were the lap belt for your side, buckle those pieces first, then figure out which two pieces were the shoulder belt for your side and buckle those. If you didn't get it right, the car buzzed at you and refused to start.

No excuse for the separate belt pieces. That was Detroit's fault. (Euro carmakers had already perfected the three-point belt with retractors.)

The buzzing-refusing was purely Congress's fault.

"We the people" told Congress what we thought, and Congress retracted the buzzer-refuser law.

That was the one and only time Congress responded to "We The People". Plenty of laws have been revised or repealed because superrich fuckheads objected. Never again would a law be made or revised to suit mere humans.

Much later correction: I was unfair in showing an AMC Matador with the tangled-up belts. AMC actually adopted Euro-style three point belts in '74, which were much easier to use than the Big Three's punishment belts.

  Good man gains


Polistra likes this Alvin Greene fellow who's running for Senate in SC. Likes him in a plain and simple way... not because he might be a spoiler, but because he's a true political novice and an introvert.

Introverts are less susceptible to peer pressure, more inclined to think for themselves. At first it wasn't clear that Greene was intelligent enough to think competently for himself in such a hi-falutin arena, but his intelligence is coming through now that he's saying more than Yup and Nope. He's just laconic, doesn't feel the need for endless jibber-jabber.

One sentence in Greene's debut speech catches Polistra's attention forcibly:

"Let's reclaim our country from the terrorists and communists."

When was the last time you heard any politician name both factions of our enemy correctly? Pretty sure no national politician has named Communists as an internal enemy since the Cultural Revolution was consummated in 1974.

Stop and think. Ordinary Americans are suffering. We know now that our suffering arises from the system that makes Economoids and Tech Tyrants supersuperwealthy and supersuperpowerful. E and T tell us that the current situation is the best part of capitalism, and tell us that capitalism is the best of all possible systems.

Wrong twice.

If this is the norm of capitalism, as E and T insist, then capitalism is the worst of all possible systems FOR US. Obviously it's the best FOR THEM.

  BLASTING through borders
ZH reports something that MYSTERIOUSLY hasn't been noticed** by the "green" "left". Volkswagen and Nissan have been using hail cannons to pre-empt hailstorms over their huge fields of stored new cars.

ZH commenters are no better than the greenies. They're nominally "libertarian", nominally in favor of property rights and non-aggression, but they miss the point entirely.

Pollution laws have been around since Hammurabi, and proper pollution laws are STRICTLY about property and non-aggression. If your business creates a lot of dirt, you're supposed to keep it on your own property.

Modern pollution laws, since the founding of the Gaian religion in 1974, have been solely about eliminating all real jobs and infinitely enriching the banker tribe. So VW's actions are not only permitted but required by modern Gaian laws. Ruining farmers is a prime goal of modern pollution laws.

The old approach required farmers to fence in livestock, and required oil companies to contain their waste in ponds, which was the normal method until EPA decided that it was better to BLAST the waste into the ground to make earthquakes which can then be blamed on the oil companies.

VW is explicitly and WILDLY violating this old principle of keeping your dirt to yourself. Instead of simply building a roof, or wrapping the cars, VW is BLASTING the storm clouds, ruining the weather for everyone downwind of the plant.

Halting normal rain IS POLLUTION AND AGGRESSION just as surely as dumping sulphur dioxide or lead or bombs on the downwind population. Diverting a river is a traditional and modern ACT OF WAR. Diverting rain is identical to diverting a river.

VW belongs to the Sorosian open-borders mode.

VW's need for maximum share value is the only thing that matters. Boundaries do not exist. Nearby people do not exist. Their needs are Negative Externalities.

  New evidence for Svensmark
Via ScienceDaily:

When galactic cosmic rays increased during the Earth's last geomagnetic reversal transition 780,000 years ago, the umbrella effect of low-cloud cover led to high atmospheric pressure in Siberia, causing the East Asian winter monsoon to become stronger. This is evidence that galactic cosmic rays influence changes in the Earth's climate. The findings were made by a research team led by Professor Masayuki Hyodo.

The Svensmark Effect is a hypothesis that galactic cosmic rays induce low cloud formation and influence the Earth's climate. Tests based on recent meteorological observation data only show minute changes in the amounts of galactic cosmic rays and cloud cover, making it hard to prove this theory. However, during the last geomagnetic reversal transition, when the amount of galactic cosmic rays increased dramatically, there was also a large increase in cloud cover, so it should be possible to detect the impact of cosmic rays on climate at a higher sensitivity.

Since we're in the middle of another pole reversal that started in 1974, the Universal Year Of Inflection For Every Fucking Thing, it shouldn't be surprising that we're seeing similar effects now.

  Avoid new Piltdowns?
Listening to a BBC feature on Piltdown Man and how he fooled the "scientists" for so long.

Obvious analogy: Piltdown Climate. The warming hoax, perpetrated by Soviet agents in 1974, now infecting ALL the powers of the world. From 1990 to 2009, ALL governments and churches and schools and "scientists" and corporations firmly believed the hoax, and enthusiastically wasted trillions of dollars and killed thousands of people to advance the hoax. Since 2009 a few governments have slowed the waste and killing, but they still haven't squashed the hoax. All the other powers are still roaring ahead madly toward total genocide.

If anyone is left after the slaughter, how should we prevent this from happening in the future?

Obvious answer: Run all science like engineering. There are no hoaxes in engineering. Nobody ever spreads an intentionally wrong theory about beam fracture or the compressional strength of brick.

How do we make that happen? Instead of the utterly corrupt Pal Review system, we must require every bit of paid science to have concrete results. If your idea leads DIRECTLY to BUILDING OR IMPROVING** A PHYSICAL SYSTEM, we'll think about supporting it. If you have nothing but numbers and COMPUTER MODELS, no pay. And I do mean PHYSICAL, not VIRTUAL.

If your idea cannot be turned into a PHYSICAL SYSTEM, or cannot 'cure' or 'repair' a PHYSICAL SYSTEM, you're just writing a novel. You're not doing science. Novels are fine, but governments don't pay for novels, and decent governments don't kill people in the name of novels. (Unfortunately, indecent governments have killed or ruined plenty in the name of 'Das Kapital' and 'Atlas Shrugged'.)

**Footnote on IMPROVING: I'm making analogy with medicine for "sciences" that claim to work with humans, like psychiatry and economics. Nearly all of the theories and methods in social "sciences" are wacked-out crazy and ferociously murderously destructive. This doesn't happen in real medical research. A drug or surgery that doesn't improve lives doesn't last long. We must use the same test on therapies, drugs, theories and systems in the social "sciences". Double-blind clinical trial first, then we think about paying for the work.

  Annoying but right
Howard Dean is annoying and arrogant but his realistic view of human nature is rare among Officially Approved Commentators. Yesterday on some NFR show he was comparing this week's Three Scandals. He said that IRS was the most important and most likely to damage Obama ... but only IF the Repooflicans handled it right. And he knows the Repoofs will NOT handle it right.

After that, I tuned to one of the second-string Repoof shows, and sure enough they're still running full force on the completely insignificant Benghazi thing. This has actually replaced ZERO TAXES as their sole topic of discussion for the last six months.

I like to use the Seven Second Test on talkers of various types. Tune to any talk show and start counting. You will hear a mention of the current Sole Topic before you hit 7. Up till last September, you could count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, TAX. Now it's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, BENGHAZI.

Repoofs have somehow convinced themselves that Benghazi is the Magic Touchstone Of Impeachment. If only WeThePeople could learn its Universal And Urgent Importance, it would guarantee the end of Obama.

Nope. If you have to spend six months persuading WeThePeople of any topic's importance, it's a lost cause. Repoofs made the same mistake in '98 with Clinton and sex. They convinced themselves that WeThePeople would rise up and impeach if only we could be taught and persuaded. Didn't happen. WeThePeople didn't care. WeThePeople did care about Clinton's treasonous romance with China, but the Repoofs couldn't bring themselves to focus on that, because they were on the same treasonous side.

Same thing now. Outside the echo chamber, we don't even know what the Benghazi thing is about. Who's Susan Rice? Why does it matter if she was telling the truth or not? Nobody in government ever tells the truth.

From my viewpoint, the only scandalous aspect is the fact that we still have embassies. The development of international telephone and radio service in the 1930's made embassies unnecessary; now they only serve as targets for protests, kidnappings and attacks. Bring everyone and everything home, dammit.

More generally, anyone who pushes for impeachment is an unrealistic fool. It's a reliable shibboleth. (Of course the top-level talkers understand this; they are only manufacturing anger to increase their confiscatory advertising rates.)

Plain fact: Impeachment is not going to happen. Guaranteed. Even if it did happen it wouldn't accomplish the goals you imagine. As originally designed, impeachment could have been effective because the Pres and Vice Pres were meant to come from different factions. Since 1804 (though not required by law) the P and VP have always been from the same party, so impeaching the P only gives you another politician with precisely the same agenda. This should be blatantly obvious, but apparently it isn't.

In 1974 the Soviets in Congress understood this reality and solved the problem with a complex chess move. First they replaced Agnew with Reliable Soviet Agent Gerald Ford, then they started impeaching Nixon. Unless you have enough power and intelligence to pull a similar 'castling' move, you're not going to make one microspeck of difference.
