Article in UK Telegraph shows that BBC "journalists" have much better pay and working conditions than private-sector "journalists".

True in almost every area of work now. Formerly gummint work was low-paid but secure. Now it's high-paid and secure. If you have the choice, and especially if you have a family to support, the decision is automatic.

But given the innumeracy in the Telegraph article, I have to wonder about all of their figures.



Yeah, 10 shillings is half a pound, and 50 pence is half a pound. But that's not what TODAY'S MONEY means, dummy. There's more to it than LSD vs Decimal. There's also inflation. An online calculator shows that half a pound in 1922 has inflated to 22 pounds now.

How much money would it take to hire "journalists" with actual brains, who can DETECT when something doesn't seem right?

Obviously the wrong question. The whole purpose of "journalism" is to copy-paste Imperial Doctrine WITHOUT detecting errors or oddities.

  Let it simplify, let it simplify
Most solutions involve simplifying the situation, or avoiding the temptation to add complexity. Make it simple or keep it simple. Mind your own business, don't start fights, don't buy unnecessary stuff, don't get into situations where Deepstate can tangle you in red tape.

Sometimes you have to discover these simplifications by accident. I didn't realize the evil addictive power of TV until lightning knocked out my cable box in 2010. After a week without it, I simply tossed out the whole thing instead of getting a new cable box.

A solution to Firefox's problems came similarly. Firefox has become nearly unusable in the last year or so, constantly crashing when Flash failed. I can't find any way to turn off Flash. Supposedly there are 'switches' in the about:config lists, but they don't work. If your Flash is 'usable', Firefox WILL USE IT, AND WILL CRASH.

Uninstalling Flash from the computer doesn't work, because some important websites won't run at all.

What does work is simply letting the Flash version grow old. When the Flash in your computer is not the latest version, Firefox avoids it. A warning appears giving you the choice of using it anyway, but everything else still works when you don't say Yes to the choice. Nothing crashes.

Developing a thought......

Start with vague observation: Deepstate's latest trick is sort of Orwellian but not quite.

What do I mean?

The trick: All facts are paranoia. All paranoia is fact.

Example of facts are paranoia: Anyone who describes Hillary's obvious neurological defect as a neurological defect is paranoid.

Example of paranoia is fact: Attributing all bad things to Russia is classic political paranoia. The truth is directly opposite the theory. We have been pushing Russia into a corner for several years. Russia is trying to defend itself against OUR attack. Despite the blazingly obvious falsehood, all media state as a simple fact, like gravity, that Russia is responsible for all evil. [In earlier times Russia was in fact doing lots of bad things, so attributing attacks to Russia in 1962 was NOT paranoia.]

Well, this sounds like WAR IS PEACE / PEACE IS WAR. But there's something else going on, not quite the same as simple reversal. The simple reversal would be FACTS ARE LIES / LIES ARE FACTS.

Treating a fact-observer as CRAZY is not the same as calling a fact-observer a LIAR. There's some liar-calling (or more precisely OUTRAGEOUSLIAR-calling) but it's not the primary mode.

Did Orwell foresee this? Not exactly. Orwell gave us a slightly exaggerated version of Stalin's methods.

Comrade O'Brien showed and explained the method in meticulous detail.

(1) First the state scrambles the citizen's brain with a long and constant barrage of perfect contradictions and cognitive dissonance. This scrubs out the CONNECTIONS that allow a human to live a self-sufficient life, to observe reality and draw useful conclusions.

(2) Then the state sets up ONE BIG PAVLOVIAN METACONNECTION: Any time the citizen tries to observe reality and draw a conclusion based on ANY sort of logic, he is shocked into submission. Room 101. LOGIC = EXTREME PAIN.

(3) Then the state fills in the connections on a TRANSIENT basis, never allowing a consistent pattern to re-form.

(4) Result: You are incapable of observing direct reality and drawing conclusions that lead to survival. You are no longer a living thing, picking up sensory data and processing it into patterns; you are simply a direct cable receiving the State's constant input and transducing it into the State's desired sounds and actions. You are a loudspeaker and a solenoid.

Let's compare this to real schizophrenia. A real schizy has poorly controlled and poorly filtered connectivity. He is functioning in dream mode. Like the dream-scripter, he connects everything into a narrative which works amazingly well.

Our new Deepstate is not cultivating perfect emptiness like Comrade O'Brien; rather it's cultivating a schizy-like condition in which our connective abilities are slack and loose and atrophied.

TV takes care of Orwell's first step, HAMMERING us with cognitive dissonance and contradictions and moral conundrums until our connectors become weak and fatigued.

Our brain is hungry for connections. That's why we make and consume music and art and architecture and civilization. Those artifacts, in pre-modern form, nourish us with temporal and spatial rhythm and symmetry, forming a scaffold to build new emotional and logical tissue.

Modern art and music and architecture and law are explicitly non-rhythmic, non-tonal and non-symmetrical. Their job is to sever all internal bracings and connections.

Deepstate (so far!) is applying a weak version of Orwell's second step. We are trained to associate facts with disrespect and low status (basket of deplorables) but not quite pain. However! I may be lagging behind on this.... Consider the explicit response of young idiots to the name of Trump written in chalk. "We are in pain."

The third step is also comparatively weak. TV fills in the missing connections for us, but again it's not QUITE as direct and constant as Orwell's telescreen.

  Simple solution
Shea, a local Repooflican eunuch, has decided to behave like Trump. Instead of doing the job of LEGISLATING, which is his ASSIGNED AND PAID JOB, he is getting involved in a murder case that has no connection to him. He's not related to the suspect or the victim. He guesses that the gun was owned at some point by a county deputy, and he thinks this guess is important enough to make a big public stink. It's not clear how the ownership of the gun would change the facts of the case, which are straightforward and well established.

The sheriff, UNDERSTANDABLY AND CORRECTLY, doesn't like to have his deputies accused in public without any evidence or charges, so he's threatening a lawsuit for defamation.

Solution to this is simple. If you're a public figure, don't get publicly involved in shit that has no connection to your interests. Pay fucking attention to your own fucking job which you're being PAID for. Don't start fights. Don't start feuds. Don't start wars.

When you scan over the "science" articles in an aggregator like RCS, or in the "science" department of a big website like BBC, there is very little Shannon information.

Information in the strict sense = an observation or analysis that is NEW AND TRUE.

Gives your nerves a delta all the way up to the cortex. Not repeated, not seen before, not tautologically obvious, and not demonstrably false.

Everything we see in the "science" news is either old and true or new and false.

I'm always riled by the new and false; for some reason this article linked at RCS made me focus on old and true. A nicely done exposition of why Mercator misrepresents the world. Good heavens. This is one of the FEW things I actually learned in 7th grade science class. It was known in the time of Mercator, and better map projections have always been available. 400-year-old facts.

  Neighborhood note
I like to keep track of the other Little Houses in the area. Misplaced sense of kinship or something.

Two of the Little Houses are vacated and renovated this month.

One is no surprise: It's a rental, and it had seemed vacant for years while actually occupied. Lights and mail indicated human presence, but I'd never seen people entering or leaving or smoking outside (trademark of a rental), and the grass was always two feet high.

The other is a true surprise. The owner was a SERIOUS gardener. He maintained everything carefully, added a greenhouse on the back of the house, and kept the back yard full of tall healthy beans and tomatoes. This year's crop looks good. Puzzle! A real gardener doesn't abandon his garden in August just to find a bigger or nicer house. Looked up obits; no indication of death. Maybe he had a heart attack or stroke?

  Irrelevant seasonal note
Safe to say that summer is done now. This summer was BLESSEDLY cooler than normal, and BEATIFICALLY cooler than last summer.

A personal measurement, not quite in the same class as cricket chirps: This summer I only had to use short-sleeved shirts for morning walks THREE times. All other mornings (near sunrise) were easily cool enough for long flannel shirts. Coat was needed through the end of April, and last week already hit coatness once.

Last summer was short sleeves all the way.

When I resumed coat, it fit better than it had in April. Started trying to lose weight about a year ago after realizing I'd gained 25 pounds over 5 years. Before this surgery thing, I was down about 6 pounds from the peak, using the simplest diet plan. Eat less. No second breakfast, no bread. The surgery thing seems to have taken another 3 or 4, probably from constant stress and tension. In one year, almost half of the 5-year gain is off. That's a meaningful turnaround. Encourages me to continue. The weight before the +25 started is probably a good enough goal. (In non-delta terms: Started at 180, got up to 205, now back to 192, trying to return to 180.)

News: A bishop in Mexico is in legal trouble for being a Christian.

Bishop Ramón Castro has been informed that he’s being investigated in response to a complaint by the socialist governor of the state of Morelos, Graco Ramírez, for speaking out against the creation of homosexual “marriage,” which was recently passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Ramírez. He is accused of “homophobia,” according to Mexican news outlets.

“If I go to prison, no problem, I’ll do the work of evangelization there,” the bishop told his flock during a sermon at the cathedral in mid-August, and added that he wished to “thank the Bar Association of Cuernavaca, which has shown solidarity by coming to my defense.”

Now there's a plain and simple New Testament Christian attitude. No Roman sophistication. Prison? Fine. Just a better chance to spread the word.

Sorosian Graco Ramirez really needs to think about this. He is not serving his own cause. SorosSatan is working to weaponize both prisoners and homosexuals, turning them into missiles guided by SorosSatan. Ordinary prisoners are extremely heterosexual. A powerful evangelist who helps them to turn their NORMAL sexuality toward Christian purposes will give those prisoners a protective immunity against the Sorovirus.

If the Sorosians are smart, they'll back away from this counterproductive move.

  Non-interventionist spies
A complete series of 'Secret Agent K-7' recently arrived in Archive.org. The show, from the late '30s, is above the norm for a low-budget syndicated 15-minute radio series. Characters are necessarily shallow but constantly plausible. They do and say things that real people say and do. Technology is also shallow but accurate. Guns and radio direction-finders and Thermite are described and used properly. There are no impossible secret weapons.

The show pulled me in with two superficial details: One of the female agents is named Rita, and there's a lot of Morse.



After those surface items sucked me in, I realized that K-7 has one MAJOR shining virtue that separates it from all other spy stories. It's written from a NON-BELLIGERENT viewpoint. The stories, summarized by the narrator's brief sermon at the end of each episode, are designed to PRESERVE PEACE, not to DESTROY THE WORLD.

What do I mean by non-belligerent? A few of those little sermons:

(1) It is a known fact that in these times telephone lines are routinely tapped. Those who rule by force and intrigue have many secrets to guard, from their own people and from the world.

Precisely correct and stated generically. You can apply this to any country. Contrast with the modern USA STRONG narrative of tapping and hacking. We do not tap because we are Exceptional. All tapping and hacking is caused by RUSSIANAGGRESSION. We need to DESTROY RUSSIANAGGRESSION because RUSSIANAGGRESSION must be destroyed.

(2) The bombing of cities far behind the actual lines of battle will be the most horrible part of the next war, for innocent women and children will be the victims.

Again note the generality. This turned out to be a precisely true prediction, and the Allies did most of the civilian bombing. And the show's writers were also correct in predicting that Thermite incendiary bombs would be the decisive factor. The A-bomb didn't really do anything more than Thermite, and the A-bomb was NOT what drove Japan to surrender. Our actions in early 1945 indicated that we KNEW Japan would be done in July or August. How did we know? Because the entry of Russia had been SCHEDULED two years in advance. The Russian second front was the final persuader, and we knew it.

(3) The fact that food rearmament programs are equal in importance to military and naval programs may be surprising. Men and munitions are important, but without food, war cannot be waged. Nations have been starved out before, and it will happen again.

A rare focus on DEFENSIBLE SPACES and SELF-SUFFICIENCY. Contrast with the USA STRONG approach. We are fanatically busy DESTROYING our own reserves of food, petroleum, water, helium, productive industries, skills, and money. Bush The Son made it lethally clear that he wanted to run these wars purely on debt and dependence. No defense bonds sold to Americans, no expansion of defense industries that would give jobs to Americans, no stockpiling of food or anything else. Continue bombing our own dams to "save" the nine-toed grinklesnarb, continue bombing our own police to "save" the vulnerable gangsters. We must get all of our oil from Saudi and give all of our jobs to China while borrowing all of our money from China. Total vulnerability, total dependence. We must be fully starve-able and fully disarmed in every possible way, physical and emotional and mental.

(4) The smuggling of undesirable aliens has always been a problem for the great nations of the world. Today it has assumed major importance, since the undesirables who enter a country are often spies and saboteurs.

Well, we all know that Dreamers are NEVER undesirable. Only natives are Deplorable and Undesirable. Dreamers are physically incapable of committing terrorism or spying or sabotage because they are Dreamers.

(5) This one was in the dialog, not the 'sermon'. K-7 is brought in by an old friend who runs a factory that builds engine parts. He is nearing bankruptcy because his production is being sabotaged, probably by foreign moles among his employees, and he can't find the problem. He asks K-7 for help, and K-7 replies: "Your country is not engaged in war. Neither is the country buying your airplane parts. Both countries believe in peace. For that reason, as well as for the welfare of your workers, I will help you." There's a concise and complete statement of Populism. Don't make war, improve the welfare of your OWN workers. This was a COMMON attitude in 1938** America. Now it's forbidden.

Each of these little sermons would be

today. Literally unsayable, because the secrets must be guarded from our own people at all costs.

** Update: Actual program listings show K-7 on the air in 1940. Only a few stations carried it, including KHQ in Spokane. I don't find any references from earlier years. This makes the non-interventionism even more salient.

  Verner GoFundMe
Sort of semi-personal.... News states that former mayor Mary Verner, who moved to Seattle after losing office here, was seriously injured in a bicycle crash. Her medical expenses are apparently not covered, so her friends set up a GoFundMe thing here. (This wasn't linked in the news items.)

I said some harsh things about Verner in the first year of her mayor term, then came to realize that she was NOT evil, just overwhelmed. A loyal political servant who got in over her head. She did some good things as mayor, trying to serve the poor more than the rich. Unlike Copkiller Condon, she DEFENDED a cop when he got in trouble.

So I tossed a little money in the well as a form of apology for the harsh words.

Imperial media are vomiting again about Trump and "Birthers". BBC states flatly and falsely (as always) that Trump FOUNDED the Birther thing. In fact Trump casually jumped onto the wagon long after it started moving.

There's no conspiracy theory here. It's quite fucking simple. All Federal employees are required to show firm proof of their citizenship status. The necessary status varies by job, but you have to prove that you're a citizen or an H1B visa or whatever. President shouldn't be any different.

Obama's biography is complex and dubious, with a foreign father and a world-traveling CIA/Commie mother. His citizenship status was NOT obvious or tautological. Dubious statements require MORE proof than observably true statements.

Obama REFUSED to show documentation. Birthers wanted Obama to be treated the same way as all other Federal employees. Finally after months of pressure, and AFTER getting the job without showing any papers, he came up with some kind of documentation.

This is simply a matter of TRANSPARENCY. Transparency means SHOW YOUR WORK. If you claim that CO2 causes "climate disruption", SHOW YOUR WORK. If you claim that we need to bring wolves and grizzlies into the city, SHOW YOUR WORK. If you claim that ZIRP "grows the economy", SHOW YOUR WORK. If you claim that outsourcing "lifts all boats", SHOW YOUR WORK. If you claim that we are living in somebody else's video game, SHOW YOUR WORK. If you claim to be qualified for a Federal job, SHOW YOUR WORK. If you claim to be collapsing and seizing because of "pneumonia", SHOW YOUR WORK. All of these claims are DEMONSTRABLY FALSE. If you take the trouble to SHOW YOUR WORK, to OBSERVE REALITY AND USE LOGIC, you can disprove them all in a minute.

None of the elites ever SHOW THEIR WORK. They always yammer about transparency, but it's always the Deplorables who have to show documentation and proof, and our documentation and proof is NEVER ENOUGH. Aristocrats get all the money and all the power and all the "truth" by divine right.

I hadn't thought about Manweller's Law in quite a while, but suddenly realized....

Manweller says that democracy is a luxury, an outgrowth of a stable and secure setup. When things are going well enough for the elites, they can put up "candidates" who agree on all the essentials. "Elections" help to maintain legitimacy and keep the peasants calm.

When there are SERIOUS differences of purpose among major factions, elections stop and AK47s emerge.

This is the first time since 1932** that we have a MODERATELY serious difference of purpose among major factions. So it's not surprising that the Deepstate is attempting to cancel the election. Deepstate already canceled Bernie. Many local and state elections and referenda have been deleted by court decisions or by arresting an uppity Repooflican. (Those deleted local elections probably matter more than the national in the long run.)

Now Deepstate is trying everything short of AK47s to cancel Trump. If everything short fails ...

  Minor point
Minor point, but I haven't heard it said.....

It's highly unlikely that Russia, or ANY remote nation, could have done the DNC hack. DNC, like all major organizations, buys its web and cloud services from one of the giant providers. These giant providers are thoroughly protected from hacking through the net. A mass-quantity hack containing a specific segment of dates nearly always comes from an insider with physical access to the servers. A disgruntled 'whistleblower'.

We can also be sure that lots of hackers are TRYING to penetrate the Trump organization. 100% of hackers in the US are leftists. (And there's a big bounty available!)

Why haven't they succeeded?

Unavoidable answer: Trump's organization has better data security. It must be doing a better job of selecting and paying its IT guys, and a better job of monitoring the external cloud services.

Totally aside from all matters of ideology and policy, which is the better leader in today's world? The leader who can't control internal leaks, or the one who can?

Kerry has been cooperating with Russia to unravel Hillary's genocides. Russian interest in stopping Hillary is clear, and in fact HUMANITY'S interest in stopping Hillary is clear. No candidate in recent memory has such a wildly murderous and omnicidal record. She starts new wars every week. But the DNC hacks were not specifically about Hillary.

In contrast, the new hacking of international athletic corruption clearly and directly serves Russia's interests. It makes sense to assume Russian involvement.

This leak also shows yet another way that "privacy" laws create crime. American athletes have been using a GOVERNMENT-AUTHORIZED medical trick to take drugs "legally", which was covered up by "privacy" laws because it was "medical". Our criticism of Russia's GOVERNMENT-AUTHORIZED doping is thus totally cynical. There's no difference. All organized sports are pure criminal syndicates. All organized sports should be abolished.

  First draft
Here's a first draft of Polistra's new Mill. The original was found in a 1910 Inland Printer journal, and the scene was so stunningly beautiful that Polistra wanted me to 'build' it for a printshop. The project is keeping my mind nicely occupied during recovery from surgery.

My digital version is WAY too neat and clean, which is sort of unavoidable in digital graphics. I'll try to roughen and mossy it up some, but not too much. I couldn't resist making the building a little more symmetrical and usable in terms of light and space. It's also difficult to get a lot of trees into a digital scene. Digital trees, like real-life trees, are extravagantly wasteful. The tree on the left takes 3 times as much memory as everything else in the scene! You can substitute a backdrop picture, but the result is usually unsatisfying.

  Going beyond
Unsurprisingly BBC has already gone beyond 'pneumonia'. Hillary's problem is that she is unwilling to take sick days, and America's unwillingness to take sick days is caused by Republicans.

So her seizures and collapses are not pneumonia but Republicans.
