  MIchelet again

Some people are still wondering why CDC publishes data that CONSISTENTLY AND OBVIOUSLY PROVES THIS IS NOT AN EPIDEMIC, and then "uses" the "data" to justify a holocaust. Don't they NOTICE the contradiction? Of course they NOTICE it. The contradiction is the weapon.

This isn't new.

Reprinting a piece from Michelet's incomparable 1904 essay on witch hunting.
Here lies Sprenger's real merit, which is beyond dispute. He is a fool, but an intrepid fool; boldly and unflinchingly he lays down the least acceptable doctrines. Another man would have tried to elude, attenuate, soften objections, —but this is not his way. Beginning on the first page, he sets down openly and displays one by one the natural, self-evident reasons there are for disbelieving the satanic miracles. This done, he adds coldly, "Merely so many heretic mistakes." And never pausing to refute the reasons given, he copies out the texts on the other side, St. Thomas Aquinas, the Bible, legends, canonists, and commentators. First he shows you what common sense has to say, then pulverises it by weight of authority.

The method is everywhere identical. Good common sense first of all, followed by a direct frontal attack, a downright, unhesitating negation of common sense.
The Sucker Filter and the Flat Assertion are the two ingredients of a witch hunt. When the two are compounded, you get Sprenger or Fauci.

  AIER does it again

Jeffrey Tucker at AIER has a new article identifying the exact moment when the "profession" of Public Health switched itself to Public Death.

It happened on Feb 28 when Chief Holocauster Fauci quietly switched Case Fatality Rate with Infection Fatality Rate in a published article.

After that, the floodgates of redefinition were wide open.
However, on March 24, the CDC made an announcement of serious significance. It would now calculate coronavirus mortality by including “probable” and “likely” deaths in the International Classification of Diseases code (ICD).

This became an invitation to misclassification. People who otherwise would have previously been classified as having heart disease or some other comorbidity could now be classified as Covid. This also included a financial incentive to do just that.
The latter redefinition (with vs from) has been discussed heavily in realist circles, and Tucker has now pinned down the point where it began.

GOOD WORK. It won't change anything, but the Martian archeologists will appreciate the clear record of how civilization committed total suicide.

  Prestige first

A random thought about the need for a new Trinity House, a private PROFIT-MAKING institution that would fund REAL science and combat FAKE science.

Current vaccine development is all government funded.

This was NOT true of the most successful vaccines in previous eras. Smallpox inoculation was developed by healers in the region around Turkey about 500 years ago. "Science" wasn't even a concept. Inoculation was brought to England and formally "sciencized" by Jenner, again without government help.

The polio vaccine was strictly crowdfunded in the modern sense. FDR strongly endorsed and encouraged the March of Dimes but didn't fund it.

New thought: A major obstacle to reconversion is that researchers simply can't conceive and don't want funding outside government and academic channels.

About 8 years ago, the holocaustally hyperinsane "city" of Spokane was preparing to waste $200 million building miasmal swamps and flood generators in order to reduce phosphorus pollution in the river from .0000000000000000000000000002 percent to .0000000000000000000000000001 percent.

I heard about a researcher who was working on a much simpler way of controlling algae, a method that wouldn't require creating miasmal swamps and floods. He wasn't able to get government funding. I corresponded with him, offering to run a crowdfund with a large ante. He seemed blindsided and quickly backed away from the idea. I concluded that he didn't really want to solve the problem, he just wanted to get the GOVERNMENT grant.

Prestige, or rather RELIGIOUS PURITY, counts far more than money, and you don't get prestige from crowdfunding. Some of the money might be contaminated with Deplorable cooties.

Jenner and Salk didn't work that way. They got the money, solved the problem, and THEN got the prestige.

  Terribly unhealthy?

Vintage.es has a feature on smoking in movies, mainly among female stars in the '20s and '30s. Silents and flappers.

The text says:

While smoking is a terribly unhealthy habit, there’s something about it that automatically makes a person feel cool. Especially when a character is supposed to be rebellious, famous, or just super cool.

I'm old enough now that I can focus on text and numbers when something more interesting is present. This wasn't possible just a few years ago.

Looking at the numbers, it struck me that the lifespans weren't especially short. So I downloaded the page as html, sorted out the dates, and calculated.

The mean lifespan of these 28 "terribly unhealthy" beauties is 76. Median is 80. Their mean birth year was 1911, median 1913.

The official life expectancy for females born in 1911 was 54. As always, this mean was pulled WAY down by child deaths, but even so, 76 was not a "terribly unhealthy" lifespan for people born in those years.

Reprint on 'if only they knew'

When I was looking up items related to if only they knew, I came across this from 2016. In this item I was doing my own 'critical' revalorization.....

= = = = = START REPRINT:

Fact: Evil geniuses can't be conquered by knowledge because they claim to have a monopoly on knowledge. They can't be conquered by money because they control the counterfeit press. They can't be conquered by force, either physical or cyber.

Question: Is there a way to rebuild math and "science" and coding to enforce or agree with morality? Perhaps start with economics, where current theories explicitly force and justify evil behavior.

No. As soon as I wrote it down, I saw that it's hopelessly dumb. This is just a variation on the fallacy I noted in previous item. If only they knew....

Even worse! I was thinking like Elon Musk! Self-driving cars. Eliminate sloppy humans from the equation. Jesus.

In fact real science ALREADY agrees with morality in most cases. Consider the forest fire problem. Governments have DENIED real science. Real forestry agrees with old wisdom. Don't force the forest to remain unburned; don't cut everything down; use trees appropriately and replant. Nothing new.

Govts DENIED all of this and applied the Endangered Species evil, which is EXPLICITLY contrary to Darwin. They know what's good. They choose to be evil because evil accomplishes their evil purposes. Endangered Species eliminates non-financial industries, kills the people who work in non-financial industries, creates mayhem and chaos in non-financial places, and magnifies the budget and workforce of government agencies. All of those goals are GOOD if you have a negative moral IQ.

Ready to stop 'eliding'? I doubt it.

I somehow got on the mailing list of an organization called Academia.edu. They send emails linking papers that might be interesting, and some of those papers are actually interesting. Most are standard orthodox crap.

Academia also teases "mentions" of my own name, never exactly quoting the papers, in an effort to stir up a paid subscription. Admittedly I'm curious to see if those "mentions" are really me or another with the same name. Judging by subject, some of them arise from my listing as co-author of acoustics papers when I was working at Penn State.

Academia is sort of like Quora, a pile of toxic shit with occasional precious stones, just enough to keep you digging. Clever.

The latest offering has an intriguing title: Making genocide unthinkable: three guidelines for a critical criminology of genocide. As the word critical implies, it's not really about genocide as such, more about trying to reshape the discipline of criminology to handle genocide better. It was written in 2006, well before the current total universal global genocide, so it can't be contaminated by the latest version of the crime.

The author does try to peel away the standard branding of Hitler's genocide as the ONLY genocide:
This awareness did not exist immediately following World War 2, but has become ever-present within modern western cultures since the 1970s. Sadly, this heightened awareness has done little to prevent genocides in Iraq, Cambodia, Bosnia, and Rwanda. As Cohen eloquently posits, 'our touching faith in if only they knew underestimates the willfulness of denial in the face of knowledge'.
'If only they knew' is a sharp observation, but "denial" is just another distracting trick. Mass murderers KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY'RE DOING. We must recognize that they ENJOY WHAT THEY'RE DOING.
But what about criminology itself? Seldom addressed are the discipline’s foundational blind spots and its history, in Agozino’s words, as an 'imperialist science for the control of others'. This brings us to the need for a non-redemptive criminology of genocide and mass violence. Redemptive narratives are a common theme within the genocide literature. They suggest that, although genocide represents the height of human cruelty, we can nonetheless learn from it and grow morally and intellectually by engaging with this topic. These narratives reflect an attempt to revalorise humanity following its absolute debasement. The existing criminology of genocide often participates in a similar form of revalorisation. Through an investigation of genocide, the most serious of crimes, the goal is to redeem criminology by demonstrating the discipline’s moral and scholarly worth.
Well? Now's your chance to demonstrate your worth. You have all the info necessary to start 'revalorizing'.

First, these theories typically ignore broader matters of political, historical and social significance, even when we solely consider their application to street crimes. Second, they locate the motivation for genocide and mass violence primarily within a limited temporal sphere, eliding broader patterns of imperialism, capitalist acquisition and exploitation and their consequences for those who suffer the effects of genocide and mass violence.
Well? Time to stop 'eliding' and start focusing on the capitalist and imperialist exploiters.

One word, young man. BEZOS. This isn't the only word, but it's a central word. Other five-letter words ending with S also come to mind. GATES and SOROS and BORIS. And a phrase containing Five and ending with S. FIVE EYES.

  Return to medieval

Via Wolfstreet:

Monster Ellison, the main driver and source of tech monsterdom,is moving out of Frisco now that he's bombed it. He's demonstrating our return to pure medieval times by creating a literal exact feudal city-state.

The entire island of Lanai is now Monster Ellison's duchy.
Working from anywhere for Ellison means working on a 140-square-mile island, a former pineapple plantation that Ellison acquired (98% of it) in 2012 from David Murdock who’d obtained it via his purchase of Castle & Cooke that Dole Food had spun off. The economy on Lanai has been dedicated to tourism: It has three luxury hotels that Ellison owns, plus a grocery store that Ellison owns, a school, an airport where Ellison’s corporate jets drop him off and pick him up, and about 3,000 residents whose jobs mostly depend on Ellison’s operations on the island. Ellison also owns part of the housing on the island, and to top it off, he bought the only local newspaper – another billionaire buying up newspapers.
This goes way beyond the typical rich fuckhead's estate. Estates are inside ordinary cities and have to depend on sewers and streets and power systems. An entire island owned and occupied by one demon is a NATION.

Every demon's goal is to become the universe. All other objects, including meat objects, must be obliterated, and the universe shall consist of ME AND ONLY ME. Monster Ellison is getting closer to the goal, and will now be the model and plan for all the other demons, just as he was the model and plan for Github/Room 101.

Irrelevant literary footnote: You could base an interesting story around a group of Luddite Lepers, heretics who cling to real science and real logic, re-colonizing the neighboring island of Molokai. The Duchy Of Ellison would start a war, cocky and confident with AI robot weapons. The Lepers would respond with Real Intelligence and unhackable mechanical weapons.

Next day, speaking of lepers, a well-organized and dramatic protest in Vienna. The protesters are dressed as Virus Zombies, carrying signs like "Our breath kills".

  NIce immediate proof

A quick proof that "elections" are solely about making money for candidates and parties and media.

Joshua Freed, who was a "candidate" for governor, is now using his email list to send out a prospectus for his latest "investment" IPO.
I have several acquantences who are lenders. They raise capital and then get a line of credit from banks to expand their lending capabilities. The lenders are allowed to have a construction loan on their line of credit for no more than 12 months. With COVID several builders have been delayed 6 months and their loan timeframe is running up. The lender must remove the defaulted loan (only in default due to time-limit) off their books and put it on their limited equity. It is best for the lender to sell at a discount. These loans are collecting 12% interest.

We will be purchasing these otherwise performing loans at 8-10% discounts. The loans are secured by collateral in the builders project at 60% LTV%. The loans are construction loans for vertical construction of single family homes.

We will become the lender collecting 12%, earning all extension fees, and making profit at closing as the builder is still online for the full loan amount. The projected profit of 15%.
Pure Wall Street crap. ETFs and derivatives of derivatives of derivatives. Blood money. Profiting from the evil work of the tyrant he was allegedly "running" "against".

I had initially supported him, then switched to Culp when Freed showed he was NOT serious about opposing tyranny. He made a video praising the rioters in Seattle, agreeing with CNN and MSNBC that the rioters were an innocent "merry carnival of love" or some such shit.

Now that the shouting is over, I have to accentuate the positive on Culp. He never got any money or help or advertising from the establishment Repoofs, and raised $3 million on his own. He held ROCK STEADY until the end on the issues that matter. Never converged to the enemy, never converged to the chickenshit cowardass sissyass pussyass Repoofs who only worry about license registration fees. Culp is a Reference Standard for opposition politicians.

  What about Vietnam?

I've been comparing the current holocaust to previous fake panics and wars, but I haven't considered Vietnam.

Here's a thoughtful comment:

Yes, this is starting to have a Vietnam vibe to it where it's obvious the war was not a great idea and needs to end immediately, but too many egos and people with credentials and titles they need to maintain are way too invested in the claims they made and need to be 'right.'

= = = = =

In some ways Vietnam is a better comparison than 9/11, because Vietnam was tremendously costly to ordinary innocent Americans. Young men were forced to participate in a crime that made no sense and had no purpose except evil. The Iraq and Afghan wars were fought by a small all-volunteer military plus profit-driven contractors. Nobody was forced to fight. The fighters chose to be criminals, and their casualties were fairly small by historical standards.

Now, of course, EVERYONE except the demons is forced to participate in the most monstrous crime in all of human history.

The sunk-cost aspect doesn't work. Demons don't worry about sunk costs and invested credibility. They just kill and kill and kill. Sunk cost might apply to ordinary people who got sucked into the panic by media, but ordinary people aren't making the decisions in any of these fake wars and fake emergencies. Our beliefs and intellects are irrelevant.

When was the last time we DECIDED to get out of a fake panic? 1952. Truman jumped into Korea, where we had no conceivable interests and no hope of victory. Ike promised to get us out. We elected him (note that I'm not putting the usual quotes around "elected") and he FULFILLED his promise. He began the pullout with reasonable speed. As a general he understood all the strategies and tactics needed to get in or out, so he didn't make any major mistakes in the pullout.

1952 was the last actual election. Since then we've been running the process every four years, but it doesn't have any function. It just makes money for candidates and parties and media.

Finally someone realizes that people are different.

Realists are people who understand how things work.

Among the realists in the current holocaust there are MANY people who understand real science and real viruses and real immunity and real epidemics. Most of my generation learned by experience, both internally and verbally. We can't be fooled by fake epidemics.

There aren't many who also understand the natural tendency of psychopathic demons.

Most of the 'skeptics' assume falsely and DANGEROUSLY that the demons simply haven't been informed. If we could only make them aware of the real science, they'd stop killing us.

NO. Demons are perfectly aware of the real science. They know that the "virus", if it exists, has zero risk for people who are not already dying. That's why the demons don't muzzle and distance when nobody is watching.

THEY KNOW IT'S A HOAX BECAUSE THEY CREATED THE HOAX.

Finally, here's a "respectable" writer with a blue Twitter check who UNDERSTANDS demons, though he doesn't seem to understand real science quite as well.

Years ago, a reporter covering Cuomo once mused to me that “If it weren’t for politics, Andrew Cuomo would be a serial killer.”

On the dot. I wasn't observing Cuomo until this shit started, but I was observing Mad Bomber Inslee for many years, and I understood his tendencies many years ago.

Demons exist to kill.

Their only purpose in existence is to ruin and destroy and kill everything else. They can't be cured.

In sane eras they were kept in prison or executed. Now all of them are in political or corporate offices, where they control and make the "laws". Since nobody is going to apply the correct solution, we have to rely on partial solutions. Try to bore and pacify the demons, and try to obstruct or slow down the bureaucratic mechanisms that serve as weapons.

  More rambling on GenRad

Since I'm on a GenRad kick today, I'm still puzzled by pricing for calibration equipment. There's a whole lot of GenRad on Ebay right now, and it divides sharply between regular 'vintage electronics' pricing and 'luxury goods' pricing. The 'vintage' pricing makes sense for hobbyists and collectors who prefer old equipment.

I noticed the difference several years ago when I bought my 1565B sound level meter from Ebay. The 1565B is the successor to the 1565A shown in previous item, and seems to have started around 1973. It's still being produced and sold now. Same functions in a smoother package, like the change from Ford Fairmont to Taurus. I bought mine for $50, and the new ones from IET are $3500. It was an excellent deal at $50. Still functions perfectly, still usable for real science.

The difference makes sense when you're buying from IET, which continues the GenRad services. You're basically paying a retainer for legal services to a company that will back up your claims of accuracy in a regulatory or legal conflict.

The difference doesn't make sense for the Ebay items seen now.

Example: Standard inductors, all fairly old-looking and all simple devices, range from $1000 down to $200. Both are supposedly tested. Some listed as 'parts only' are also around $200. None of them are from an official calibrating service like IET, so they don't include a 'lawyer retainer'. For comparison, plain non-standardized inductors from Jameco range from 50 cents up to $2.50 for a fancy one. Unlike sound level meters, there isn't any practical use for standardized inductors. You can't possibly use them in a real circuit. Even in the '30s when everything was bigger, these giant boxes couldn't have lived inside a radio. You'd only need them for QC testing if you were manufacturing fancy coils, and in that case you wouldn't be buying through Ebay.

= = = = =

After detailing the meter face in my model to match the original more closely, I wondered why the meter says "DECIBELS. SOUND LEVEL METER." Seems like unnecessary clutter in a small space. When you're using the SLM, you know it's an SLM and you know you're measuring dB. The lawyer aspect illuminates the reason. Before computers and web-connected equipment, you'd create an evidentiary chain by photographing the meter along with the factory or highway you were measuring. The photograph is better evidence if the name of the tool and the meaning of the measurement are intrinsic. The upper dials are also designed for photographic clarity, so you can include the weighting and band setting in the closeup. (As shown nicely by the picture on the front of the GenRad booklet below.)

COBOL was designed with the same purpose in mind. "Overly verbose" code is self-documenting, making it easy for auditors to check what the program is trying to do.

Was this internal metadata technique widespread in instrumentation? I don't think so.

It's certainly common in other legalistic uses of photography. Mugshots always include a title card with the name and other data, often held in the suspect's hands for 'intrinsicness'. Cities used to document real estate for tax valuation with photos. Each house had an easel in front carrying the relevant info.

Skimming through GenRad catalogs, I don't see any other uses of the technique. The later 1565B, the 'Taurus', no longer has the label, and the weighting is done by pushbuttons that woudn't be easily visible in a photo. The classic Bruel & Kjaer 2203, from the same era, comes close to the same labeling and grouping for photo clarity:

Considering the added value of this design in the intended legalistic use of instruments, it's surprisingly rare.

= = = = =

Separate random note: The manuals for all of these old instruments are easily available online in PDF form. I can get all the info and pix I need to "build" the models, including details of meter faces. When I was working in academic labs, whether acoustics or speech and hearing, we RARELY had manuals for old equipment. Sometimes I was able to write to the manufacturer for schematics, sometimes not. Mostly I had to figure stuff out on my own. I don't know where the manuals went; maybe grad students took them, maybe profs kept them in their offices. In either case the manuals weren't kept with the equipment.

Later and even more rambly: The 1565A struck me as unusual because the meter face is white on black. Most meter faces are black on white. The other applications of intrinsic metadata are also white on black. Mugshots and property tax photos formerly used blackboards, white chalk on black slate. More recent mugshots use 'marquees' with magnetic letters, also typically white on black. Is there a photographic reason for this? Can't find it online. Discussions of UX seem to think that white on black is more readable to the eyes, but I can't find any comments related to film photography in old periodicals. White on black is NOT more readable to my eyes.

Ears were made for sounds like these

In 1970 GenRad published a lively little handbook of sound measurements.

IETlabs continues to make and calibrate derivatives of GenRad products, and performs a tremendous service by maintaining old GenRad publications online. Maintaining old records of old technology is an even more important form of calibration in an era of Github memoryholing. Clearly they were using the original booklet from GenRad files, not one of the 20,000 printed copies that were ordered by the original form. Calibration at all levels! Thanks, IETlabs.

The book was aimed at industrial tech types who were suddenly required to deal with noise measurements by new OSHA regs in 1970. GenRad's simple sound level meter at that time (the 1565A) looked like this:

The artist took full advantage of the meter's face, turning it into a character.

Decibels don't add like apples and oranges.

Meters and humans don't work the same way. Human hearing is totally oriented toward filtering OUT stuff that doesn't matter, and bringing IN new information in the strict sense. If a sound is meaningful and new, we focus on it, starting with the remarkable tip-link mechanism in the cochlea, and continuing all the way into the higher language centers.

The meter has no idea which sounds are meaningful. It just picks up waves of air pressure and filters them by frequency.

Here's how the GenRad book balances out the human and meter perceptions:
You have been told, correctly, that measurement is the first step in the solution of a noise problem, and you have made your measurements. The noise, meanwhile, continues, apparently unintimidated by your bulging data book. But your day is near; you have the facts you need to act intelligently. An effective noise-reduction program requires careful planning. The man who finds a noise level too high and immediately says, "We'll just slap some acoustical tile here and there; that ought to take care of it," will probably be disappointed at the results.

Not that acoustical tile isn't a good way to reduce noise - it often is. But this approach is like shooting a person full of penicillin at the first sign of a cold.** The more prudent course is to analyze the noise (either roughly with the sound-level meter, as discussed on page 74, or in detail with a sound analyzer), decide from this analysis what to do about it, and check results by further analysis. This procedure ensures that you're reducing the noise at the frequencies you're most concerned with - usually, those frequencies that are about the same as speech frequencies.
The meter can filter by freq, so you have to use those filters as a crude approximation of our PURPOSE filters. The A-weighting filter is closest to the spectrum of speech, so the A is the best setting to measure interference with meaningful communication. The B weighting tends to focus on the upper freq range that is likely to cause damage to the cochlea. C is broadest, covering the whole range of hearing while ignoring freqs that don't affect the ears at all.

The handbook ends with a poem!
With so much sound-measuring equipment and counsel available, there is no longer any need to suffer the annoyance and hazards of excessive noise. Ry acquiring a sound-level meter, you will take the first step on that golden stairway to the promised land where ...

Like beacons on a sea of silence
Life's silver sounds invade the air:
The wind plays tunes upon the trees,
The stream sighs and from the mountain flees,
The rain's beat, the phoebe's call -
Ears were made for sounds like these.
The author isn't credited, and I can't find the text online, so it might have been written at GenRad. Do any modern industries have poets on staff, or use poetry in their handbooks? Especially poetry that says ears were MADE? Not even worth asking.

= = = = =

These unannoyable meters need to be calibrated in an unemotional way. GenRad's own calibrator was electronic, designed to produce the usual audiometer frequencies in the glottal range. (125, 250, 500, 1k, 2k). Because it was electronic, it wasn't an absolute or definitional calibrator. It wasn't controlled by a crystal or tuning fork, so its output depended on the quality and aging of the transistors and speaker.

For absolute calibration, acoustics uses a pistonphone. The pistonphone is both absolute and definitional. It produces waves of air pressure with a permanent and unalterable amplitude, at a mostly consistent frequency.

Here Polistra is using a Bruel & Kjaer pistonphone to calibrate her 1565A.

The BK pistonphone produces an absolute 124 dB at standard barometric pressure, and comes with a barometer to calibrate the calibration more precisely.

Here's the pistonphone as seen from the business end. The black plastic part fits over the standard microphone, forming a closed chamber between the pistons and the mic.

Here's the innards. When I worked in an acoustics lab at Penn State, I opened up a pistonphone to replace the batteries and saw this mysterious setup. I ass-u-me-d that the big silver thing was the piston, which seemed logical. It must push and pull directly in and out toward the mic.

Logical but wrong. As I learned just now from the manual, the big silver thing is the 'engine block', and the little 'pins' in its sides are the actual pistons. The motor turns a cam, and the pistons ride in and out in a guaranteed sinusoid pattern with a guaranteed amplitude.

The frequency wasn't guaranteed, but BK had a clever bit of analog design to regulate it almost precisely. There was a centrifugal pusher on the same shaft with the cam, and it would break the circuit to the base of the transistor when the piston frequency went above 250 cps. This didn't turn off the motor because current still flowed around the transistor through R1; but the reduced current allowed the motor to slow down to 250 cps.

Just as the design of the human sensory system can't be reduced to software, this type of elegant analog feedback loop can't be reduced to software.

= = = = =

** Shoot everyone full of penicillin at the first sign of cold: Neanderthal primitive analogy. As we know now, the CORRECT SCIENTIFIC MEDICAL approach is to shoot everyone full of fear and panic and isolation and depression and starvation and darkness and unemployment and screeching hopeless desperation, and then strangle them to death, in order to PREVENT people who were already dying from catching colds in the middle of dying. This is SCIENCE. Back in those primitive Neanderthal times, the primitive Neanderthal knuckle-draggers called our modern progressive methods "human sacrifice" because they were completely uneducated and stupid.

  Gergen starting to get results

Culp's campaign manager Gergen announced just after the "election" that he was going to make trouble for the chickenshit cowardass pussyass sissyass Repooflicans who sat silent for 9 months while Mad Bomber Inslee flattened the state they were SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING.

Later Gergen specified how the Repoofs could have made Mad Bomber's job harder, by pushing for special sessions of the "legislature".

Last week Culp and Gergen were in Spokane, according to the FB page.

Today, for the first time since March, one of the useless Repoofs from this area decided to wake up SLIGHTLY.

Volz, a "representative" in the state "legislature", sent an email recognizing that Mad Bomber has done bad things besides raising the car license fee, which until now was his ONLY CRIME in chickenshit Repooflican eyes.
Workers are being denied the ability to feed themselves, pay their rent or mortgages, or meet basic needs and necessities. Too many small businesses, especially in the hospitality services, have already gone under with more on the way unless we figure out a new path forward that doesn't demolish the hopes and dreams of so many.

I sent out a press release in November calling for the governor to open up our economy, call the Legislature into an immediate special session, and to make sure the 2021 legislative session is in-person, not a remote one. You can read that release here.

As you can imagine, the governor continues to go it alone despite many legislators from both sides of the aisle asking him to call a special session.
This is a direct repetition of Gergen's message about special sessions. His persuasion is having an effect.

Most people understand that a subordinate politician can't control policies when he's under the bloody spiked boot of a holocaustal gangster demon like Inslee. We understand how protection rackets work.

We also understand the need to pick your fights. But if a total holocaust isn't a fight worth picking, then WHAT THE FUCK IS? Oh. License fees. I get it.

WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND SILENCE. Moral support matters. When ordinary people can see that SOMEBODY in a position of power is on our side, we can tolerate the evil better. We would have forgiven you if you had told the truth. If you had told us that Mad Bomber was holding an actual gun on you, threatening your actual life, we would have forgiven you for obeying his infinitely evil commands. Life comes first, and martyrdom is futile unless the martyr is serving the Correct Side.

Even more importantly, the ACT of revealing the threats would have made a REAL DIFFERENCE back in March or April. Opening the blackmail always makes it harder for criminals to function. Psychopaths have unlimited energy and evil, but they don't have unlimited resources. They have to mobilize bureaucracies. If the bureaucrats can see that their budget-writers are NOT UNITED BEHIND THE MASS MURDER, they operate more slowly and less willingly.

So, Volz, I'm pleased that you're showing signs of awakening, but mainly because it tells me that Gergen and Culp are doing some meaningful work. I still don't forgive your 9 months of cowardice in the face of NON-LETHAL enemy action.

We know now from the course of events that the threats are not lethal, because governors who disobeyed haven't been suicided or accidented or even removed.

  Clairvoyant!

I always read Wolfstreet for a well-measured and well-baselined view of economics. Wolf always puts current developments into full historical context, with the best graphs in the world. His commenters include real landlords and business owners who know what's really happening behind the trends.

Today Wolf discusses a superfancy skyscraper in SF, across the street from Twitter headquarters. (Why in the FUCK would anyone live in a skyscraper ANYWHERE, let alone an active earthquake zone? I can't begin to comprehend.) Since the lockdowns and work-from-home orders and riots, the tenants are leaving and the owners are having trouble with their equally stacked-up multistory $274 million mortgage.

One commenter brings out the initial promotion for this skyscraper back in 2013:
NEMA, “an array of lifestyle enhancing packages that fit the new normal.” Residents can choose between the “remote worker,” which includes 12 months of a cable/internet credit up to $200 per month, an Amazon Echo Dot, and Tile™ Mate Tracker, the “mind-body mover,” which includes 12 personal training session, six 60-minute massage sessions, a fitness cooling towel, fit tracker, and NEMA-branded yoga mat and glass water bottle; the “do-gooder,” which includes a $2,000 donation to the local charity of your choice; or the “move maker,” which includes a credit toward movers or a relocation expert up to $1,000, bedroom blackout shades, a Dyson air purifying fan and a bottle of wine and NEMA-branded wine glasses to celebrate.”
Remarkably prophetic, isn't it? Advertising for Karens and OCD types to live the NEW NORMAL in 2013.

Deepstate is never clairvoyant. Deepstate knows what's going to happen because Deepstate MAKES IT HAPPEN. The demons know this "suddenly" "emerging" "surprising" "unprecedented" "virus" is a fucking hoax because they CREATED the fucking hoax.

Language footnote: Other Wolf commenters, belonging to the day-trader species, dismiss real info from real landlords as "anecdotal". Day-traders are accustomed to seeing the world through their simulations and models.

"ANECDOTAL DATA" IS A RETRONYM. "Anecdotal data" used to be called data. A direct personal observation in one particular place was formerly the definition of data. Now only the models and simulations are data, and real observations are DENIER TROLL ANECDOTAL.

  Checking the beacon again

Calibrating the baseline: Tanzania, the single solitary only unique FREE AND SANE COUNTRY in this totally satanic and incomprehensibly evil world, is still FREE AND SANE AND NORMAL as of today. Official reference point for sanity.

Mark wanders around streets and stores as usual. Precisely zero muzzles, zero panic, zero fear, zero distancing. Just normal functional work and life in the normal prosperous healthy HAPPY city of Dar es Salaam. Humans doing what they're meant to do. Breathing and talking and working and walking.

  COBOL musing and bemusing

I've been playing with COBOL for a couple weeks. The more I play, the more I like. The advantages go beyond the proper handling of integers and decimals. COBOL's way of describing and using data structures was clearly the best and most intuitive from the start. Other languages departed from the intuitive and only recently came back to similar power, but still without the intuitive approach.

I've been using the GNUcobol compiler, which runs smoothly and quickly on the command line. The developers have been working together for several years, and the project is highly active.

BUT: There's one extremely basic thing missing. I was puzzled by it, and kept trying to make it work from various angles, then located a note in the GNU documentation that verifies the basic thing is missing.

This one missing function blocks everything I would want to do with COBOL.

COBOL has a built-in way to process an entire array at once, using the ALL keyword. For instance, you can take the median of TABLE1 like this:

COMPUTE MEDIAN1 = FUNCTION MEDIAN (TABLE1(ALL)).

Other languages don't have a built-in median function. Median is the ONLY VALID STATISTIC, and it's tricky to code properly. COBOL implements the correct accounting way of taking a median, along with the correct way of finding Midrange. I use Median and Midrange often in graphics programming.

What's missing? The ALL keyword is missing. There's no way to process an entire array in one step. GNUcobol doesn't handle it, so GNUcobol can't do the things that COBOL does best.

There are several other COBOL compilers for Windows. Some are way too expensive ($25000), some are way too simple (old 16-bit progs that won't run on Win 7). I'm willing to pay for value, but not thousands. So far I haven't found Mama Bear, but I'll keep looking. (There's probably a workaround for the missing ALL, but I haven't learned it or figured it out yet.)

= = = = =

Later: Here's what I mean by intuitive. In all other languages, starting with Fortran, an array or list has a name but the things IN the array don't have names. If you define an array with 12 items, the items are just index points inside the array. If each of the 12 items has its own contents, those are just a second index.

COBOL focuses on the things IN the array, not on the array itself. Simple example with eggs in a carton.

IDENTIFICATION DIVISION. PROGRAM-ID. EGGS. DATA DIVISION. WORKING-STORAGE SECTION. 01 CARTON. 05 EGG OCCURS 12 TIMES. 10 YOLK PIC 9 VALUE 1. 10 ALBUMEN PIC 9 VALUE 1. 10 SHELLCOLOR PIC XXXXXXXX VALUE "WHITE". PROCEDURE DIVISION. MOVE 2 TO YOLK (2). DISPLAY EGG (1). DISPLAY EGG (2). STOP RUN.
The carton is just a carton. The things IN it are eggs, and we make room for 12 of them. Each egg has measurable things or qualities IN the egg, which also have their own names. I decided to use the number of Yolks (normally 1 but could be 2) and the number of Albumens (always 1) and the color of the shell. I made Egg 2 a double-yolk egg.

The DISPLAY lines tell the computer to display the contents or qualities of Egg number 1 and Egg number 2.

The PIC stuff is non-intuitive but necessary in a strongly column-oriented system like a ledger or a computer memory. PIC is a 'picture' of the columns or memory cells needed for this particular value. 9 represents any digit, and X represents an alphanumeric character. PIC 99.99 would mean a dollars and cents number like 24.36 with no overflow allowed.

  WWFDRD?

Some government officials are "honoring" some surviving Pearl Harbor vets today by forcing the vets to wear muzzles. Supremely nasty and hyperhyperhyperevil beyond all imagining.

What were those vets fighting for? Freedom from attack and occupation by a hostile power.

What did we get since 1946? Four distinct attacks and occupations, all with total COLLABORATION from the Feds.

First, the occupation of our industries by Wall Street in 1971, assisted by EPA. In the first few years of this attack, Wall Street destroyed more of our REAL industry than the Japs could imagine. This attack was renewed in 2008 from a different bombing angle.

Second, the more gradual penetration and sabotage of our industries and academia by China in the '80s, again with total COLLABORATION from the Feds.

Third, 9/11/2001. Saudi attacked and bombed NYC in a direct repetition of Pearl Harbor. We responded by working WITH Saudi to bomb Iraq and Afghanistan.

Fourth, 3/12/2020. A true Day of Infamy. Unlike the two gradual penetrations, this bombing has an identifiable date and time, and an identifiable aircraft named Carter Mecher. We know that Mecher didn't originate the attack, just as the Jap pilots didn't decide on their own to bomb Hawaii.

= = = = =

The alt-history question in all four cases: What would FDR do? FDR is the only calibration reference for PROPER political leadership. All other leaders are toxic shit by comparison. FDR is the platinum kilogram, the sidereal second.

We know what he did in 1941. He responded massively AGAINST THE NATION THAT ATTACKED US, which is the ONLY JUSTIFIABLE WAR IN OUR ENTIRE MISERABLE FUCKED HISTORY.

So his response to 9/11/2001 would have knocked down Saudi, plus the Saudi collaborators in Deepstate.

It's also easy to see what he would have done with the Wall Street attacks of 1971 and 2008, because he started his service on the first day of 1933 by responding CORRECTLY AND PRODUCTIVELY to the similar 1929 Wall Street attack. He closed the banks and clamped down harshly on bankers and stock demons of all flavors.

He wouldn't have allowed China or any other country to penetrate our industries. In this case I don't really need to invoke FDR, because NOBODY before 1946 would have allowed a similar foreign penetration. Government and corporations and unions were united against foreign interference in jobs and industry. FDR correctly rounded up foreign saboteurs starting in 1938. We demonically bash him for "unfairly" targeting the "rights" of the Jap saboteurs, but for some reason we don't notice the similar, and equally necessary, roundups of other Axis saboteurs.

What about 3/12/2020? Here it's harder to imagine a response because the bombers had ALREADY penetrated and sabotaged our entire "medical" and "scientific" establishment.

Broadly speaking, the correct response by a president who started his service AFTER the attack would be similar to the Bank Holiday of 1933 (followed by the securities laws of 1936) plus the roundup of saboteurs in 1938. Close down and jail all the major institutions that actively participated in the holocaust (for sure WHO and CDC, undoubtedly many others). Close down and execute all paid media. Gather up and sort out all the Public Death Officers and governors and mayors. Some of them may be innocents who were blackmailed into participating. Most are active and joyful hyperdemons who deserve infinite eternal absolute torture WITHOUT execution.

  Missing the Rand point

Jeffrey Tucker at AIER is the champion truth-teller on the current holocaust, the only source of the ONE FACT that would start the Nuremberg Trials if any sanity remained.

Other writers at AIER are more standard "conservatives" and "libertarians", often missing the main point.

This article by David Hart correctly traces the genealogy of the "virus" holocaust from the "green" genocide, but misses the ideological point badly. Or more precisely, Hart adds an ideological point to a situation that has no connection to ideology. (All situations have no connection to ideology, which is a completely extraneous and meaningless variable.)

He considers these movements to be socialist. Nope.

The Green movement originated in CIA and "social" "science" types, who like to use Marxish terminology but are NOT Marxists. They're just evil.

Soon after the origin, "climate" was taken over by Libertarians, and the "virus" holocaust is ALL Libertarian.

Globalism IS libertarianism. Soros and Bezos are anti-Marxist, following Ayn Rand to the letter. Rand's utopia is a one-man utopia. Atlas ends up being the universe, and all other humans end up enslaved or dead. Soros and Bezos fully intend to be the universe.

The opposite of Rand isn't necessarily socialism, because the definition of socialism is meaningless.

The real variable is SKILLS, not "control of means of production". The SKILL variable does run partly along the same lines as capitalist vs socialist, but not entirely.

The correlation is clear when SKILL is the prime variable. The countries and states that have the earliest and harshest lockdowns are Randian, fully financialized, running solely on debt and free money for Atlas, closely tied to Soros and Bezos. In those places Bezos CAN kill everyone, so he does.

The countries and states with the mildest tyranny are dependent on REAL INDUSTRY AND FARMING, and dependent on TAXES for survival. Many of these places are socialist or Soviet, because Soviet systems always depend on real people doing real work and paying real taxes.

Hart seems to be catching onto the crossed-up variables at the end of the article, where he notes with some puzzlement that his Libertarian mentors were following Lenin's model to gain tyranny. Maybe his puzzlement will lead to a NOW I SEE moment. Learning tends to happen that way.

Constants and Variables 159, positive exception edition

An important piece of info in one of Berenson's items. A correspondent notes that Wisconsin and Minnesota have pretty much the same "virus" patterns despite different lockdown patterns.

This isn't news. This is constant. Everyone who understands immunity and viruses has known from the fucking start that lockdowns and muzzles don't affect the actual deaths, because the actual deaths are in nursing homes among people who are already dying. These people are not in public life. They aren't in subways and buses and stores. No matter how hard you sneeze, with or without a muzzle, your viruses aren't going to float into a nursing home. Even if they did, they wouldn't add more "dying-ness" to a person who was already on the short list.

We have destroyed the entire world in a futile and fraudulent fake "attempt" to change the brand preferences of people who are already dying. Even if we do change their brand preference, they were going to die anyway. We're killing millions of innocent people and ruining billions of lives for absolutely no purpose at all except satisfying the demonic desires of psychopaths.

= = = = =

Here's what IS news, because it hasn't been mentioned by either side in the national discussions:

It appears Wisconsin is doing better than Minnesota without being locked down since mid-May when the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the governor could not extend lockdown restrictions without legislative approval.

Several state courts have made such rulings. I assumed falsely that ALL governors were ignoring court rulings, because I knew that the Wash and Illinois and NY and Calif govs were ignoring court rulings. The fact that the Wisconsin gov is OBEYING the court is genuine information, and a refreshingly positive EXCEPTION to the rule that all governors are demons.

I apologize to the governor of Wisconsin, who may have demonic intentions but is OBEYING THE LAW and RESPONDING TO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK. Intentions don't matter. Actions matter.

  Bridges or balances?

Thinking about the importance of valid metaphors.

Differential measuring processes are a major basis of life. Our nervous system makes constant use of balances and diff inputs at all levels. In most cases the comparison is not between two present inputs, though there are some obvious exceptions like cold hand vs hot hand. Most of the comparisons are between present input vs some kind of template from memory and prediction.

Physical instruments follow the same pattern. A simple balance scale can compare two unknown weights for equality, but usually compares an unknown against a known standard.

The classic balance has a known set of calibrated weights. You add weights of various sizes until you get an 'integer' match, then slide the small weight to reach the 'fractional' part.

Electronic differential circuits are like balances, but we don't call them balances. We call them bridges.

Bridge is an inappropriate metaphor. A bridge is a narrow path carrying traffic between two riverbanks, or across another highway to avoid interference.

The proper electrical or neural equivalent for a bridge would be a wire or axon carrying current between two terminals across space, or an insulated wire or myelinated axon carrying current across another wire to avoid interference.

Here we see a physical bridge for the railroad and also a current bridge for the trolley's power wire, showing the metaphor nicely.

= = = = =

The electronic bridge is really an exact analogy for a balance or scale. Typically there's a decade resistance box, exactly like the set of fixed weights, and a slidewire or potentiometer exactly like the sliding weight on a typical lab balance.

But the original Wheatstone version, and some of its laboratory descendants, happened to look like a bridge:

This one has two standard resistance coils that can be connected into the circuit, serving as standard weights, then the sliding 'weight' picks off a fraction of the resistance on the bridge wire itself.

= = = = =

Was there ever an attempt to match the balance metaphor visually? Yes. This device by Becquerel simply started with a regular balance.

It has physical weights for the integer and a physical slider-weight for the fractional part.

Then Becquerel added a column of three magnets surrounding the left side of the balance.

The upper and lower magnets are electromagnets, with binding posts for a current supply. The middle is just a permanent magnet.

This could be used two ways. With an unknown and possibly magnetic object in the left pan, the upper and lower magnets were adjusted until the force on the unknown object matched the known weight on the right pan. Or the two electromagnets could be energized equally, and the force on an unknown object could be determined by manipulating the physical weights.

If we had started with this balance image in mind instead of the non-evocative bridge image, we'd probably have a stronger sense of how differential circuits work, in electronics and in the nervous system.

(Why is Polistra measuring a tomato?)

= = = = =

Continued the theme into a much broader question.

  Amazing phenomenon

This short video from the Weather Bureau is astonishing. We know from common experience that fog can move in and move out, but a fast-flowing fog river, seen from above, is way beyond experience.

And we've got some equally weird weather right here, which apparently isn't happening out at the airport where the Weather Bureau records and measures. We have hairy frost covering all branches and fences but fortunately NOT covering the streets. I took pictures the last time this happened, which was the exact same date. December 6, 2017.

  Maybe a new comparison

It's obvious from the only available FACT that FBI has taken over medicine.

The one and only FACT: As reported by AIER, the holocaust was officially triggered by a "bioterrorism" adviser at VA. "Bioterrorism" also gave us the "anthrax" fake panic in 2001, which was directed by FBI.

I was thinking about the inverted meaning of CASES, and realized that the FBI connection is ALSO clear from the behavioral patterns of Public Death Officers.

The focus on CASES in the current holocaust is one of the keys to its success. Public Death Officers are trying to test everyone for signs of the "virus", because they see CASES as a crime instead of a sign of immunity. Worst of all, they are doing EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to make more people sick in general, eliminating all aspects of normal life that help immunity, and sealing people into recirculated air in houses and muzzles where viruses can stay active instead of leaving the body after being perceived and neutralized by the immune system. We're bombarded with bad statistics, totally unconnected to the baselines and contexts that make numbers meaningful. The bad stats "show" us that more and more "disease waves" are coming, which will require harsher and harsher tyranny waves.

Before 2020, doctors and public health officials didn't GO OUT LOOKING FOR CASES. They understood that the presence of antibodies indicates that a person is no longer SUSCEPTIBLE to the virus. This is how immunity works. Doctors didn't try to test everyone. They waited for people to get ACTUALLY SICK, then kept track of the ACTUALLY SICK PEOPLE. And they certainly didn't try to destroy immunity. Their advice, when given, tended to help immunity.

= = = = =

The old approach to medicine is the same as the ordinary police approach to crime. Ordinary cops don't search every house looking for thoughts of crime, and don't go around testing people for criminal tendencies. They wait for an actual crime to occur, then arrest and prosecute the actual criminal.

The 2020 approach to medicine is the FBI approach to crime, more generally the Deepstate approach to crime. Deepstate never waits for actual crimes to be committed. Deepstate monitors everyone's communication, watching constantly for CASES of heresy. A discussion of heretical topics is never seen as a healthy response to heresy. No matter which side you're taking, you're a criminal.

FBI constantly CREATES CRIMINALS, developing "activist" groups and cultivating drug gangs, shaping their activity toward maximum criminality so ordinary people will be scared shitless by "terrorism" and "crime waves". The "terrorism waves" and "crime waves" are false stats, just like the "disease waves".

= = = = =

Just as FBI inverted the function of policing from solving crimes to creating crimes, the Public Death Officers have inverted the function of medicine from solving disease to creating disease.

There's one crucial and lethal difference. Ordinary police still exist, still practice old-fashioned policing on both crime AND disease, and generally dislike the FBI approach. Ordinary doctors no longer exist. All MDs must be assumed to be FBI agents. A handful of MDs, literally two or three, have publicly indicated their displeasure, but haven't taken any actual steps to counteract the tyranny.

= = = = =

Well no, that's unfair. The Great Barrington Declaration has about 37000 "medical practitioners" who bravely put their names and reputations on the line. Skimming through the partial list, there are a lot of currently employed MDs, mainly at universities. Unlike most Open Letters, it's not just the safely retired.

But declarations and Open Letters are not concrete actions. The most important concrete action is OPENING THE BLACKMAIL. Let the public see the emails or text messages from Holocaust Central. Let us see the ESTABLISHED SYSTEM that made the trigger on March 12 work. An email from Carter Mecher, bioterrorism adviser at VA, wouldn't cause all governments in the world to start a holocaust in unison unless the governments had been rigidly organized and prepared in advance. Let us see the threats for non-compliance. It's fairly clear by now that the threats weren't implemented, because several governors have been non-compliant from the start, or turned non-compliant soon after the start, and haven't been assassinated or removed yet.

In short, the Great Barrington outfit hasn't done anything. So far I don't see the usual false flags, but I don't see an effective 'warrior spirit' either. Too many careful hedges and fudges and backdowns, not enough clarity and firmness. No sign of collective action. No crowdfunding for doctors who lose their licenses by practicing REAL medicine.

Most organizations send frequent fundraising emails to keep subscribers energized. For most organizations, that's the whole point of getting people to sign up. I signed GBD at the start and haven't received anything at all. If they begged for money while showing some results, I'd send money. If they showed LOTS of results I'd send LOTS of money. I pay for value.

AI point-missing at a somewhat higher level

From MindMatters as usual.

Michael Egnor: Sure. I mean, I’ve always thought of artificial intelligence as just representation of human intelligence. And, in a sense, that the term artificial intelligence is an oxymoron. If it’s artificial, it’s not intelligence.

Robert J. Marks: What you mention is exactly the tests that Selmer Bringsjord, a professor at Rensselaer used in his test for whether artificial intelligence would be creative. His test was, does the computer program do something, which is outside the explanation, or the intent of the programmer? And there has been, thus far, no artificial intelligence that has done this.
This set of definitions skips an important step.

Humans can make two very distinct kinds of tools, and use those tools in distinct ways. When we use any tool, or when we perform any action without a tool, we're capable of creativity. Most of the time we don't create, we just do repetitive stuff that gets us through life.

The discussion misses the distinction between kinds of tools.

We've always made and used simple tools, in the same way that birds or monkeys can make and use simple tools. Pick up a stick, pull off the leaves, use it to poke into a hole and dig out bugs, or use it to draw a picture in the dust.

In the last few thousand years we've started to make tools that have their own intelligence. A clock or a mousetrap or a computer is a tool infused with intelligence by its human maker.

Unlike a stick or a pencil or a typewriter, clocks and mousetraps and computers perform tasks when we're not physically pushing them. The clock ticks regularly and "knows" when to strike 12. The mousetrap waits patiently and "knows" when to snap and kill a mouse. The computer ticks regularly and "knows" when to run a subroutine. There's nothing special about a computer, even when it's running an AI program. Clocks have been running complex programs with video and audio displays for 800 years.

All of these infused tools can be creative when something goes wrong. Clocks can strike 13. Mousetraps can respond to wind gusts. Computers can reach wrong conclusions.

Human creativity is the same. It usually happens in the middle of a repetitive tick-tock task. You're washing dishes or adding a column of numbers or walking, and suddenly an internal gear slips and makes a connection between two unrelated subjects.

The difference between the clock striking 13 and the unexpected connection isn't in the unexpected action itself.

What makes us ALIVE is our ability to PERCEIVE that the unexpected connection is USEFUL. The clock doesn't stop ticking and find a way to use the 13th ding. We do stop washing and write down the unexpected idea, then we start a new repetitive process to develop the unexpected idea into a new habit or a new painting or a new business.

Effective creators have well-formed repetitive habits, well-worn paths equipped with their own tools, for developing those connections in our habitual direction.

LIFE IS PURPOSE.

= = = = =

Metaquestion: How does a repetitive task stir creativity? Possibly because repetitive tasks like walking create new neurons, which immediately start to perform their intended PURPOSE of seeking connections. Because the new neuron isn't already linked into existing connections, it WILL form new connections.

Metametaquestion: Why did God want us to create while rhythmically repeating habitual tasks? Probably unanswerable, but might be worth some thought.

= = = = =

Later and bigger question from a different angle. Starting with the printing press, automation has been stripping away REPETITIVE PHYSICAL TASKS. That's the main selling point of automation. 200 years ago we washed clothes and swept floors with rhythm, we walked more, we wrote with our hands more, assembly-line workers and bookkeepers performed more repetition. Every new "labor-saving" device eliminates more of the physical rhythm and repetition that gives us new neurons. Is this why we haven't made any REAL inventions in the last hundred years?

The question was inspired by reading this sales pitch for automation in a 1916 book about adding machines:
"Curious, isn't it, when you stop to think about it. Man can make mistakes and does. Yet man, who makes mistakes, makes the Bookkeeping Machine which does not make mistakes. And with the machine there is no brain blow out, no wear and tear on the cerebellum."
Exactly backwards. Using the cerebellum expands the cerebellum. The machine can make mistakes. When the machine makes mistakes it doesn't lead to improved life. When the human makes new connections it can lead to improved life. But if we aren't PERFORMING the repetitive task of bookkeeping, we DO wear out the cerebellum and we LOSE the opportunity to create. The brain's glial janitor service is always at work, always sweeping out neurons that aren't participating in connections.

Turn around! Face the other way!

The final collapse of Arecibo should teach us a lesson, but won't.

This year I've been trying to focus my "creative" energy, such as it is, toward BEACONS. The meta-beacon is Trinity House, a uniquely stable and permanent organization that maintained its original PURPOSE for 500 years.

New thought:

Most of the places I've featured have been preserved as museums or historical sites. They are no longer used by "science", THEREFORE the real instruments have been maintained in working condition. Unlike Arecibo.

Astronomy used to have a PURPOSE when it helped us to calibrate our watches and our souls by stable permanent stars. Recently astronomy turned backwards, facing toward insane nonsensical delusions like multiverses and dark matter and Gaia. NASA has been propagating those delusions and burning heretics who dare to oppose those delusions. NASA hasn't bothered to maintain its SKILLS, letting non-offshored Russia do most of the satellite launches and letting non-offshored China build the satellites. It hasn't bothered to maintain its INSTRUMENTS, letting Arecibo decay and break.

Physics did the same. Formerly physics calibrated our machines to permanent laws like Newton and Ohm. Now it's just a bizarre babble of schizy delusions.

Before 2020, medicine was the most stable and permanent of all sciences. New treatments were not accepted until they had been tested with a clinical trial. Groups of patients were assigned to receive the new treatment vs the old treatment or placebo. The new was only accepted if it HELPED MORE AND HURT LESS than the old or placebo.

This year we've conducted the biggest clinical trial in history, subjecting 90% of the world to lockdowns and muzzles as a "treatment" for an ordinary flu virus, if indeed there is any "virus" at all. Before 2020, lockdowns were only a weapon of war, the state of siege, and they had been tested clinically by armies who wanted to kill everyone. Before 2020, muzzles were used in the operating room but nowhere else, because stable medicine had determined by experience that they were more harmful than helpful elsewhere. Now we're running the trial, and FROM THE FUCKING START the trial has shown what you'd expect. A state of siege kills everyone, and muzzles are more harmful than helpful. The few countries and states that stayed with the old rules of public health have been obviously and constantly better off.

Before 2020, a clinical trial that started to kill people would have been INSTANTLY HALTED. Now it's continued forever because the PURPOSE OF MEDICINE IS TO KILL EVERYONE.

Organized "science" is ferociously devoted to OBLITERATING stability and permanence along with life and the entire universe. "Science" and technology are solely devoted to Github aka Room 101, forcing everyone to switch their thoughts and skills constantly. The "rules" of "medicine" change every two weeks.

= = = = =

We're lucky that those old observatories and lighthouses were maintained by foundations or estate trusts with a dedicated core of volunteers. If they had remained in the hands of "science", they would have been torn down or collapsed or used for mass murder, and the skills would have been lost.

Unfortunately nobody has maintained REAL SCIENCE or REAL MEDICINE or PRE-GITHUB TECHNOLOGY as a museum. There are scattered clusters of independent researchers and hobbyists, but no organized foundation or Mutual Assurance Society.

It's time to start, with a new variant on Trinity House.

Carver as always:

LOOK about you.
Take HOLD of the THINGS that are HERE.
Talk to them.
Let them talk to you.

Still clueless after all these years

I guess it's human to grasp at straws, to find hope, but it's dangerous to find false hope in a situation of endless hell.

"Conservative" thinkers have been losing the battle forever because they make unspeakably stupid and fact-free assumptions about "rights" and "constitutions".

Example from The Federalist.

Headline: Supreme Court smacks down California Governor Gavin Newsom, tells him to stop targeting churches.
The Supreme Court handed a partial victory to a California church arguing that Gov. Gavin Newsom’s coronavirus restrictions on the number of worshippers allowed at a service violate its religious freedom on Thursday.
No. It's not a victory, it's a prank. A cruel psychopathic joke. The Supremes know how to keep people sucking on the false hope tits. What they really did was hand the decision back to the 9th, which will SOLIDIFY AND EXPAND Newsom's demonic evil. Guaranteed.

Everyone knows how the 9th circle of hell works. It's perfectly consistent for the last 40 years.

There are no "laws" or "constitutions". There are only demonic rulers and sane rulers. PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT.

None of the sane rulers are in DC or California. A few of them are in Dixie.

  Remarkable Hartness 2

Hartness on Natural Law:
The progress of each individual is of greatest importance, but let us get over the notion that the greatest positions are those of authority over other men.

There are many such positions which keep down the best there is in a man. A position of authority is frequently one of most exacting servitude. It is seldom a comfortable position. Each one should strive to succeed in his own particular way and his own natural work. It is not true that all men have an equal fitness for this or that position. Some men are built for doing things, others for directing, recording, accounting, and in various ways co-operating with the real workers.

Some are born inventors and others work out their greatest possibilities in constructing. Some are endowed for mathematics or finance or mechanics, and in various other ways individuals differ in fitness for the various positions.

To preach that it is dishonorable to work with the hands, and that dignity goes only with the position in which the pencil is used instead of the implements that change the form of things; that positions of authority are the best — all such talk is contemptible stuff. To say that the worker is the underdog, that he is ever envious of and oppressed by the man who directs the work — all this is a malicious libel that should be struck out of existence by a more general knowledge of the real facts.
Add this to the previous three statements of the same ETERNAL ALL-IMPORTANT TRUTH.

  Remarkable Hartness

I was impressed by the candor and humility in James Hartness's brief article about his telescope. Unusual for executive types, and especially unusual for American execs who ended up in politics.

Googlebooks has only one full book by Hartness. It's a 1915 user's manual for a Flat Turret Lathe made by Jones and Lamson Machine Works, which Hartness headed.

Modern user's manuals are rigid and tautologous, never allowing any meaningful or useful information to escape.

They say things like

The Gapination Key enables user to Gapinate.

The Protelation Knob enables user to adjust Protelation.

The On-Off Switch enables user to On-Off the device.

Even the better manuals of previous decades were dry and technical.

This Hartness user's manual has 200 pages. The first 100 are a complete guide to life and work and learning, as applied to a man with a lathe. Emphasis on the man, not the lathe. The second 100 are more technical, with the expected diagrams and measurements.

Samples of the first part:

On getting along:
Commendation is due regardless of whether the good is really done or not. It is praise for the altruistic motive. It is the same quality that leads men to war, to various kinds of martyrdom, from the days of torturing of religious martyrs to the present day, when men must be either martyrs or cuckoos. It is more comfortable to be a cuckoo; to always endorse the medium popular views on all subjects. But some men are so constituted that they must speak out as they feel, particularly if it seems to involve a sacrifice of this or that one's esteem. The man who goes contrary to the medium view is generally partly wrong, but he must be given credit for having used his brain and lived according to his view. His view may have been only a half view, wholly one-sided, but his conclusions may have been true to his sight. The same man with the whole view might find reasons for endorsing the popular notions, but if he did endorse them he would do so not because they were popular but because they seemed right to him. Nearly every man holding extreme views on any subject will be found at heart all right, if we have a chance to understand his reasons for his position.
Remember that Wilson had already cranked up Lady Edgar's terrorist-generating machine, turning out "Red terrorists" and "Hun terrorists" by the hundred, so extreme views were in the forefront.

On learning:
More than one-third of the day is spent in the works and it averages to be more than one-half of our conscious hours, or in other words, more than one-half of our life when awake. If we disregard the advancement made possible by industrious attention, and if we only consider our daily comfort during the hours spent in the works, we shall find that a keen interest in the game of work is desirable, for it cuts out the pain and discomfiture of clock watching. It also results in our learning many facts that would never have been known if we should only strike a pole-horse gait.
= = = = =

On ambition and promotion:
The first twenty or thirty years of shop experience should be the progressive years; after that the fruits of experience should be enjoyed by a comparatively peaceful following of the work as it develops. But at all times each one should keep up to date by close observation of new development.

Many a man with a good position has been led to discontent and loss of position by impractical preaching of ambition and enterprise. A good, reliable, comfortable position should not be given up without some fairly definite knowledge of what is to be gained by the risk. If all is true that has been written on the subject of advancement as the result of study, we all can fit into the greatest positions in the country simply by studying. But we know well enough that the requirements of some of the greater positions would make us decidedly ill at ease and that we should be entirely out of place in them.
This was definitely an extreme view in 1915. Horatio Alger was everywhere. All tech magazines were pushing the readers to get out of boring work and into Fabulous Wealth And Fame. Just like now. But not just like 1950.

Yesterday I was wishing for a history written from a strictly objective Natural Law viewpoint. I didn't expect to find perfection in the form of a lathe manual!

  More are catching on

Looking at social media and MSM coverage of the "hypocrisy", I see that more people are starting to pick up the REAL point. At first the criticism was only about the standard aristocrat vs peasant divide. That's normal and constant. Rulers NEVER obey the laws they force us to obey.

The important variable is KNOWLEDGE AND BELIEF, not ethics. In this specific case the aristocrats KNOW that the entire mess is a hoax BECAUSE THEY CREATED THE HOAX.

If they BELIEVED that the "virus" was a real risk or a real epidemic, they would be muzzled and distanced all the time, EVEN WHEN NOBODY IS WATCHING.

In fact the lockdowns and muzzles are solely an expression of raw evil and power. Viagra for psychopaths. The aristocrats shut down WORKING CLASS BUSINESSES because they ENJOY WATCHING US STARVE. The aristocrats force us to muzzle because they ENJOY WATCHING US SUFFER AND DIE.

The aristocrats are DEMONS.

  Mont-gros

This bit of graphics started from thinking about James Hartness, the semi-pro astronomer who became governor of Vermont in the '20s. Hartness invented a specialized form of telescope that enabled him to stay comfortably inside, without having to pivot around with the end of the scope.

I didn't understand how this worked, so I started looking it up. Turns out he didn't invent it. The system is called the Equatorial coudé or bent equatorial, and it was invented by Maurice Loewy in 1871. Loewy was a detail-oriented astronomer who spent his career compiling and editing tables and books of star locations and star photographs. Hartness himself, writing about his variation on Loewy, gave proper credit to Loewy. The claim of invention was only in popular magazine features about the telescope.

= = = = =

But why was it needed and how did it work?

One of the best known coudé scopes was at Mont-gros, an observatory in Monaco.

Here's the real Mont-gros around 1890:

My abbreviated version represents only the three buildings at the right end of the overview. (The big central observatory has already been modeled in the realm of Google Sketchup, so I didn't need or want to duplicate it.)

From left, the Coupole Schmausser, the coudé, and a small building housing a sidereal transit.

The Coupole still exists.

As does the coudé.

This small building is no longer there, judging by various pix.

= = = = =

The coudé was specialized from a more general Equatorial. The Equatorial reaches all parts of the sky in a peculiar way, unlike the more ordinary and understandable Altitude and Azimuth system. Here we run the Equatorial through all of its gyrations, with Happystar desperately trying to hold on and observe.

The coudé runs through the same pattern, reaching all angles of the sky, but it's bent (coudé) in the middle with two mirrors. The bend enables the eyepiece to remain in one place, so it can pass through a single weatherstripped hole in a wall without needing a rotating dome or a retractable cover. The astronomer can stay in one chair, comfortably heated or cooled, unhassled by birds or bugs, while the business end of the scope remains outside with no thermal differences to distort the air.

= = = = =

The little transit building didn't need a rotating dome because sidereal transits are aimed at the same part of the sky all the time, calibrating the time of transit of one chosen star. It had a clever roof opening setup:

Here Polistra is clicking the key when the star crosses the lines on the transit's lens. (I described this process fully in the Elgin set.)

= = = = =

Irrelevant sidenote: This early '50s episode of Public Defender makes reference to sidereal timekeeping. An amateur astronomer working in an oilfield is framed for a crime because he sighted through the top of the derrick to check his watch, and noticed by the shifted star location that the derrick had moved slightly. The cheaters who moved the derrick onto a different mineral-rights claim had also murdered another worker for cheating at cards. They tried to get away with both crimes by framing the astronomer for the murder. Highly contrived and illogical** but nevertheless a unique mention of a SKILL that had been obsolete for several decades. The episode makes a more important UNcontrived point in the realm of skill-estate. When you have a serious skill or talent, you automatically keep in practice whether your job requires it or not. And that's exactly what I'm doing here. LIFE IS PURPOSE.

** Illogical: Unlike TV criminals, real criminals don't plot The Perfect Crime with 47 moving parts that mesh in perfect clockwork sequence. Real criminals, such as gangsters and governors and mayors and presidents and stockbrokers and Public Death Officers, steal because they enjoy stealing and kill because they enjoy killing. LIFE IS PURPOSE.

  Would be interesting

Random thoughts related to order and beauty and all that shit.

It would be interesting to see a history of the world or the US, written with a HARD DETERMINATION to avoid all shared lies and destructive abstractions. No nonsense about "rights" or "laws" or "civics" or "constitutions". Just use the basic OBSERVED universals of behavior by individuals and organizations, as documented by Machiavelli and Parkinson.

The usual school history course, whether "left" or "right", starts from the same set of shared lies.

Example of shared lie: We killed all the Injuns. Left version: This was bad. Right version: This was good.

Fact: The warlike Injuns were killing each other long before we arrived. Tribes were completely genocided, empires rose and fell, forced mass migrations ("Trails of Tears") were common. The new Euro tribe sometimes made war against the old tribes and sometimes lived in peace. Some of our wars were really fought against England or France, with some tribes taking the colonial side and other tribes taking the English or French side. Victorious tribes often enslaved conquered tribes. Cherokees, who had long experience with slaves, became prosperous slaveholders in Dixie. When we forced them into Oklahoma, they brought their slaves along and became prosperous slaveholders again.

I've found that books written from 1880 to 1910 tend to be most objective and free from lies. This is true in religion, politics, economics and science. In some cases the solutions given by those writers were wrong, but usually the analysis of a problem was right.

Why was that period optimal? The endpoint is obvious. Wilson cranked up Deepstate in 1913, turning Lady Edgar loose to blackmail everyone and create "terrorists" of all flavors, and rigidly moving all schools and media and corporations in unison to serve globalism.

The start in 1880 is not so clear. Maybe the globalism of Madman Lincoln had faded out? But that wouldn't explain the optimal period in science.

  Mother-in-law, cliff, Cadillac

Mixed feelings department.

Popup ad seen this morning:

On one hand I'm SUPER HAPPY to see advertisers recognizing that IMMUNITY EXISTS, and that you can improve immunity by proper diet and vitamins, along with sunlight and exercise and fresh air. This is a BASIC TRUTH which the entire monstrous holocaustal empire of "science" and "medicine" has now wiped out, along with wiping out millions of lives.

As I noted earlier, experiential learning about immunity pretty much stopped around 1970 after vaccines took out the most serious viruses. It appears that schools haven't been teaching about immunity either. The gradual fade of both real learning and book learning opened the gate for the demons to wipe out the entire concept.

Before the fade, advertisers commonly touted their products as improving immunity. Some of the products might not have helped much, but the MESSAGE ITSELF helped. Same in this case.

= = = = =

On the other hand, the typo immuntiy spoils the sense of legitimacy and opens the ad up to disputation and censorship. I wish they had paid more attention to details.

  Reprint on order and beauty

I linked this in previous item. It's worth a full reprint.

From 2013:

= = = = = START REPRINT:

This entry got me thinking.... What would happen if you tried to set up a moral code based on the 'Grand Blueprint' notion? (The hypothesis that all potential abilities of living things are present in the main genome, coded as purposes or goals instead of end-user physical implementations.)

You'd start with an axiom mainly based on observation:

The purpose of every living thing is to create order... and beauty.

The 'order' part is observable and measurable. Beauty is a stretch, but I think it's justifiable as a purpose of the original design. If beauty was not intended to be perceived, we wouldn't have sensory tools to perceive it.

This is what distinguishes living from non-living things. Non-living objects don't create order or patterns. They may move or change or deteriorate under the operation of wind, water, gravity and living things, but they never create.

I'm inclined to distinguish four stages or types of beauty, in a hierarchy from most common to least common:

(1) All cells create order internally. They have an unspeakably complex set of internal pieces and interactions, continually operating to bring in raw unordered elements and convert them to forms needed to maintain the internal order. When elements are no longer wanted, the cell excretes them. All multi-celled plants and animals add extra layers of internal dynamic order, from cells to tissues to organs to organism.

(2) Most multi-celled plants and animals use their bodies to create externally observable order and beauty. They emit patterns of light and sound and chemical signals and electrostatic signals and magnetic signals. Plants build flowers and fruits to emit color and smell and static fields, chiefly to attract pollinators. Plants emit chemicals to repel competitors and predators. Animals emit all sorts of visual or auditory or olfactory signals to attract mates and repel competitors and predators.

(3) Many animals create order outside their bodies, building structures that continue to exist when the animal is dead or absent. At the simplest level, corals and tunicates. In the arthropod world, webs and hives and nests of all sorts. Among birds and mammals, nests and beaver dams and houses.

(4) A few animals create structures or signals that are not automatic, not solely for utilitarian purposes, presumably for the pure joy of creation. At the moment this category seems to include cuttlefish, some birds, and humans, though it will probably turn out to be much larger when we start looking.

= = = = =

Given that we have this unusual ability to create structures and systems and signals that are not completely pre-programmed, can we call some of these outputs good and some bad?

Restating the axiom: The purpose of life is to increase order and beauty. The assigned task of all living things is to produce patterns that make sense.

Therefore: If you are increasing order and beauty (beyond what your cells and tissues do automatically), you are doing good. If you are destroying order and beauty (beyond what is needed for your survival), you are doing bad.

I might use a gradient to further quantify good and bad. If you live in a situation that already contains plenty of order and beauty, then your creation of order is a lower type of good. If you live in a situation where order and beauty are rare and hard to produce, then your creation is a higher type of good.

If you are blessed with a special talent or a special authority, and you use the talent and authority to destroy order and beauty, or use it to create chaos and ugliness, you are Satanic.

= = = = = END REPRINT.

After I wrote this piece, I started to look around and realized that the job of "setting up a moral code based on the Grand Blueprint" had already been done, especially in Sharia. Western systems, especially since the evil invention of "rights" around 1700, have been using talent to create chaos and ugliness, not order and beauty. This year's holocaust is an extreme example, unimaginable before March 2020. I'm sure it won't be the most extreme. Every new STOMP is harder and more lethal.
