Meta-experiential
Just one random thought for today, before I get back to some heavy courseware work.
Why do teachers want to factor their own occupation out of existence? I've
asked this before, with no good answer.
Partial answer: Experience is the only real teacher. When you are steadily experiencing a job or school or ordinary life, you know what it's like. You know that you're not getting sick and dying, and you know which pieces of the situation are good and bad.
When you're out of the situation, you have to rely on theories and abstractions and feelings. The longer you stay out, the more you rely on abstractions and media myths and phobias.
US teachers (with a few notable exceptions) are totally abstract. They
don't use experience in their teaching, and they
don't understand that experience is the only real teacher.
Because they don't understand the entire concept, they don't realize that they are giving parents and students a SOLID EXPERIENTIAL LESSON. Middle-class parents who hadn't experienced home-schooling before are now familiar with it. They know they can do it, and they realize that they can get along BETTER without the holocaustal monstrosity of Murder Masks and Chinese Distancing and Lucite Security Theater.
Unfortunately this DOESN'T apply to the poor families who can't possibly manage home schooling. Those students NEED public school, and they're not getting it.

Shotnik
Via ZH, Russia has already started mass-producing a vaccine for the Haute-Couture Branded Virus.
Several companies are still in testing stages in US and UK.
Sputnik all over again, and for the same reasons multiplied tremendously.
Russia beat us into space because their education system was EXPERIENTIAL. We were relying on leftover Nazis, not our own trained engineers.
Russia beat us into space because they didn't have a stock market diverting all resources into the pockets of Goldman. They could organize available resources toward a goal.
The education and skill gap is infinitely worse now. Russia maintained its superior education system, AND MAINTAINED ITS OWN INDUSTRIAL SKILLS, for the last 40 years, while we continued idiotic memorize-and-theorize "education" and offshored our INDUSTRIAL SKILLS to China.
Russia has a stock market now, but important industries are still state-controlled.
Russia maintained the superior Soviet medical system, which was organized to keep people healthy. We destroyed what little health care we had by turning the whole thing over to Wall Street via Obamacare.
We learned backwards from Sputnik, and we will learn even more bizarrely backwards from Shotnik.
This contrast shows up even more dramatically in
Belarus and Turkmenistan, which maintained even more of the Soviet tradition. Everyone is useful, everyone produces, everyone is NEEDED. Nothing depends on Goldman. Everything depends on the SKILLS AND LIVES OF THE PEOPLE. Therefore, Belarus and Turkmenistan continued practicing REAL MEDICINE and weren't tempted to KILL THEIR OWN PEOPLE under orders from Goldman.

Meta: Of course nobody NEEDS a vaccine for this virus. We just need to TRUST OUR BODIES. We need to understand that HUMANS ARE ALIVE, and we need to GET OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY of immunity. Stop trying to defeat and destroy immunity with lockdowns and distancing and enforced panic and suicide masks.
But since we arbitrarily defined the vaccine as a goalpost, we started the "race", and Russia beat us.
The same thing happened in the '50s. We didn't need satellites and rockets. We arbitrarily defined satellites as a goalpost. We started the "race" and Russia beat us.
So even on a metalevel we learned backwards. Sputnik should have taught us that we are the stupidest entities in history, and we should have found ways to start learning forward instead of backward.

Update Aug 8 via RT:
Russia is making the Shotnik point explicitly.
Kirill Dmitriev, the head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, which has bankrolled the research, last week compared the vaccine discovery process to the Space Race. “Americans were surprised when they heard Sputnik’s beeping, it’s the same with this vaccine. Russia will have got there first,” he told US TV.
Sovereign wealth fund emphasizes another huge difference between US and Russia.
The Soviet system ran on PROFIT AND SAVINGS, while the US system runs on share value and debt. The Soviet government and people were savers, not borrowers. Putin continued the tradition, collecting TAXES from PROFITABLE ENTERPRISES and saving the taxes for important projects like this one.

What's the diff?
A lot of Karens are using the seatbelt analogy to defend their forcible imposition of Alien Masks.
I had to think about this, because I'm not an overall Libertarian, not an anything-goes anarchist. I'm cautious, cat-like and risk-averse. When I was driving regularly I was a real Karen about seatbelts. Always wore them, and "strongly encouraged" others to wear them, to the point of annoyance.
What's the difference? Simple. I know how things work. I want to do things that help. I don't want to do things that harm.
Seat belts were
around for many years before they were required, and were PROVED BY ACTUAL EXPERIENCE. The facts were clear, and I knew several horrible examples of what happens when you don't wear belts.
Masks have been around for a long time, and ACTUAL EXPERIENCE proves that they're meaningless. Dental hygienists never wear masks, and they're exposed to all sorts of viruses and bacteria at close range, 8 hours a day, sprayed out of the patient's mouth. Hygienists don't die. All studies previous to the
Murder Moment on March 1 2020 agreed with the hygienists.
Masks are ineffective, and worst of all they PREVENT NORMAL IMMUNITY. If you're masked all the time, you'll never encounter small doses of viruses, so your body won't develop defenses. If you're masked all the time, you're recirculating your own microbes so the immune system doesn't get a chance to reject them and go on to other tasks. Immunity is broad and intelligent. We can handle this latest Branded virus because it's basically the same as the common cold, which we've encountered constantly.
We don't have a built-in immune-type system to guard against 60 MPH impacts with glass and metal, because we're not meant to go 60 MPH, and nothing in Nature goes 60 MPH. We need external assistance if we insist on going 60 MPH in an arena with other machines going 60 MPH.
Well, how about vaccines? Again we know from 200 years of experience that they help, not hurt. Vaccines work WITH the immune system to give it a preview of viruses that can kill young people who aren't already dying. Vaccines are a substitute for normal encounters, not a prohibition of normal encounters. Vaccines help to develop herd immunity. Masks work AGAINST the immune system to prevent herd immunity.
Most of all, it's a question of EXPERIENCE with the monsters who are requiring the masks. If they had recommended (not officially required) masks in February INSTEAD of destroying the world, I wouldn't have been bothered by the recommendation. Now that they have destroyed the world, EVERYBODY KNOWS that they are genocidal holocausters who intend to kill all normal humans. The intention is lethally obvious. Everyone from top to bottom, except for a few states that remained normal and sane. The virus is following the same course in the sane states as in the insane states, which proves what was obvious at the start, that this entire set of war weapons has NOTHING to do with viruses and EVERYTHING to do with genocide.
The mask requirement comes AFTER the real virus is pretty much finished. The virus has done what viruses always do. Killed the most vulnerable, then faded out after the non-vulnerable have encountered and rejected it. The overall pattern of deaths is the same with or without lockdowns, which was obvious from the start to people who understand reality.
Because of the previous EXPERIENCE with the "public" "health" mass murderers, we know that the masks are just another psychopath STOMP, just another way to humiliate and degrade and destroy normal people. Everything a psychopath does is lethal.
= = = = =
So what will I do tomorrow? I'll comply in a minimal way, because I've ALSO
learned from experience that fighting a psychopath is futile and wasted effort. When there's no BULLYPOWER counterforce, no unions or Mutual Benefit Associations or "justice" system, you go along. You pay the two dollars, pay the weekly protection fee to the gang. You know it's criminal, but resistance will only get you killed unless the resistance is ORGANIZED AND FORCEFUL, with superior violence and blackmail. That's why the "racism" rioters can do whatever they want, while law-abiding people are trapped in prison. The rioters have guns and Soros. Violence and blackmail.
Mainly I don't want to put the front-line workers in an untenable position. Everybody knows now that the whole pile of shit is Security Theater. The bus drivers have done a heroic job of maintaining civilization during the period when Alien Masks were "strongly recommended", and I don't want to force them to make an uncomfortable choice.

Here's where he got it
While researching the
pigeons and pigeoneers I was impressed by the military's constant use of Experiential Education for the pigeons AND for the pigeoneers.
All training was done as a series of 'Problems', where a goal is set and the students run through the desired procedure until they reach perfection.
This is how good teaching works. Solve a problem that will help with work and life. Along the way toward solving the problem, show how math helps to solve the problem. Show how history helps to understand the problem. Show how writing and effective speaking can help to explain the solution to others.
I've posthumously thanked my father for training me in the ways of science and the ways of experiential education. Now I've found out where he learned the ways.
This 1946 Naval Training journal shows the connection
precisely.
Here's where my father was stationed and what he was doing:
American instruction and assistance are being offered under the terms of a 5-year contract between the United States and Chinese governments, with a renewal clause. At Shanghai, there has recently been opened a school for 800 Chinese naval recruits and this also is under United States guidance. Plans are being made for a Chinese naval academy in Shanghai which will have a student body of 400 midshipmen.
Here's an incident he liked to mention:
The LST's 1017, 1050, and 1075, on their cruise, put in at Shanghai where Generalissimo and Madame Chiang Kai-Shek were received aboard.
He mentioned it because he was off shift and sleeping at the time, so missed the chance to meet the Generalissimo.
The Training Journal is packed full of good teaching methods.
Permit the men who are assigned to upkeep of guns, hoists, and so forth, regardless of their rate, to act as instructors. When a man works hard to keep a piece of equipment he likes to tell others the details.
Prepare the trainee. Make him anxious to learn the job. Show him the importance of knowing it.
Usually, simply telling a man that he must learn something fails to generate the kind of willingness desired.
The whole thing in one short list:
a. Analyze the duties of each man in the team.
b. Instruct the individuals as described in on-the-job training.
c. Put the team through a “dry run” of the operation slowly and without pressure.
d. Drill for greater speed and accuracy. Emphasize correct procedures in early drills and increase emphasis on speed as drills progress.
e. Try actual performance. Set the goal for performance at perfection.
On the dot. Note especially the constant recognition that people WANT TO WORK and ENJOY DOING THINGS THE RIGHT WAY. Modern teachers and employers ignore this fact, assuming that people are passive inanimate objects that must be pushed and shoved around like piles of sand.

Observation:
In general the military did a better job of running a
Natural Law enterprise than our corporations. Lifetime LOYALTY was expected and CREATED by treating the employees,
both feathered and featherless, with respect. In return, lifetime SECURITY was given. A human or pigeon who served well would be cared for after retirement.
A few corporations followed
Natural Law. As I've tiresomely repeated, NCR, Weston, Conoco, Ford, and
Elgin were notable examples. After 1946 we handed off this model to Korea and Japan and abandoned it here, returning to the
NYC model of "freedom", which means starvation.
Every stage in our subsequent DEvolution has gone farther in the same direction.
LBOs and mergers stripped the bilateral relations, the soul, from smaller companies.
Innovative Disruption and the Gig racket disconnected the last tenuous remnants of the bilateral contract. Most Gig workers are unpaid or negatively paid. You're expected to "run your own company", which means you need to fulfill all the Environmental and Diversity compliances and pay your own taxes and MANDATORY "health" care, but you don't get any benefits in return.
And now the lockdown has finished the process. All skilled workers "coincidentally" fall into the non-essential category, and gig workers are the most non-essential of all.

Pigeons and Pigeoneers
I was deeply impressed by the Signal Corps approach to pigeons.
From the 1923 Signal Corps Tech Manual:
The pigeon is highly sensitive and responsive to treatment. Of great importance in this respect are kindness, firmness, and calmness of the personnel handling it, and the reward given the pigeon for good performance. The pigeon prizes its home, and every effort should be made to increase the attractiveness thereof by proper loft construction, management, and the maintenance of buildings and grounds.
The Corps understood that pigeons are intelligent conscious animals with souls. Pigeons, like humans, want to be useful, want to work and accomplish a purpose.
The pigeoneers knew all of their pigeons by name. Pigeons lived and served for up to 10 years, so the acquaintance was deeply personal. When a pigeon carried out its duty in extreme danger, it was commemorated by name.

Transcribed:
With his eye destroyed by a piece of shrapnel and his head a welter of clotted blood, homed in splendid time from the Beaumont front, early in the morning of September 12, 1918. This bird carried a message of great importance which gave the location of several of the advancing heavy batteries, which were doing terrible execution on the advancing American troops. This information enabled the American Artillery to silence the enemy's guns within 20 minutes.
Mocker wasn't callously killed after his heroic deed;
he recovered, retired, and lived at Fort Monmouth until 1937.
= = = = =
The Signal Corps also understood several physical aspects of birds that scientists were just starting to "discover" 50 years later.
The ear appears to play an important part in the sense of direction. It includes three parts, the external ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear. At the top of the inner ear there are three semicircular canals which appear to be the nerve conductors of orientation. It is possible that their great sensitiveness enables the pigeon to perceive magnetic and atmospheric impressions, and to determine the direction of the loft, either at departure or during the flight, when on account of atmospheric disturbances the bird has temporarily lost its way.
Birds are blimps! Another case where we copied Nature without knowing it.
Not only do these air sacs constitute a source of supply for the lungs, but the warm air which fills them increases the buoyancy of the pigeon in the air and reduces the effort required for propulsion.
And the Army also cared about the pigeoneers, and took care to select and retain them:
A careful selection must be made of pigeoneers to train and care for a loft of long-distance pigeons. The pigeoneer should have had several years of experience in other lofts, and have a marked aptitude for judging flying birds. He should be given training under another pigeoneer experienced in long-distance work until he has demonstrated his ability to train and select long-distance pigeons for himself. He must keep pigeon records meticulously, culling and eliminating unsatisfactory stock, and developing finer stock as he deems best.
A qualified pigeoneer should not be required to maintain a loft containing over 50 long-distance pigeons. With these he should become intimately familiar, learning their individual characteristics in detail. He should cater to their peculiarities to bring out their best abilities; as for example, upon the return of a bird from a long-distance flight the pigeoneer assists the exhausted bird to his own perch or nest, dislodging any intruder if necessary.
He should be allowed considerable latitude in exercising his initiative and developing his own ideas in regard to his birds.
This is DRAMATICALLY different from the scientific approach to both pigeons and humans, developed by Skinner at the
exact same time. Most scientists have continued in the Skinner mode, treating both pigeons and humans as passive identical inanimate mechanisms. The previous SOULFUL view is just starting to return in the last few years ... but only for
other animals, not for humans.
= = = = =
Since pigeons were a form of communication device, and since pigeons are unquestionably
patient by my peculiar standards, I decided to run up some of the Signal Corps pigeon equipment.
First a stationary loft. These weren't manufactured by the Corps; each group of pigeoneers was expected to build its own from plans.
On the left is a
bob trap, a simple one-way entrance. Pigeons landed on the perch, then walked in through the swinging door. They couldn't get out again until the pigeoneer launched them.

On the right is a
drop trap, nothing more than a hopper with holes. Pigeons came in for a landing and swooped in through the holes. The trap was then closed manually after all the expected flights had returned.
= = = = =
Here's a trailer loft, which was manufactured. Each trailer loft was driven to a location near the action but not at the front lines. After a week or so, the birds learned to treat the trailer as their homing point.

Polistra is placing a feed trough, while the pigeon upstairs in the
settling cage is drinking.
There's a drop trap on top, with a small landing area under it. Returning pigeons then stepped into the settling cage for rest, before the pigeoneer moved them into nests.

= = = = =
As with the
semaphores, I have an ulterior motive for featuring pigeons. Even after radio was mature and easy to use in WW2, there were times when radio silence was necessary. Pigeons carried the message without stirring up the ether.
Like dogs and horses, pigeons clearly have a sense of duty and mission. The pigeoneers appreciated this sense and used it respectfully.
Unlike dogs and horses, we've never used pigeons for good. We've always abused their sense of duty for war. Traditionally dogs and horses have helped us to find and cultivate our own food. Dogs helped us hunt, and got part of the meat as a reward. Horses helped us farm, and got part of the grain as a reward. Natural Law at its best. Use employees to create good value, pay the employees from the profits, respect the souls of the employees. Pigeons have served armies for thousands of years, but never carried messages for productive enterprises.
Maybe it's time to reverse the old trend.
Continued here with a few more pix and details.

The how of how isn't surprising; the what of how is surprising.
Via Eurekalert, a mostly unsurprising study on
HOWism. The pleasant surprise is the fact that academics are PAYING ATTENTION to HOW!
Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have found a way to find decode the procedural information required to tie various knots, with enough precision to identify which knot is being planned or performed. To reach this conclusion, Drs. Robert Mason and Marcel Just first trained a group of participants to tie seven different knots, and then scanned their brains while they imagined tying or actually tied the knots while they were in an MRI scanner. The main findings were that each knot had a distinctive neural signature, so the researchers could tell which knot was being tied from the sequence of brain images collected. Furthermore, the neural signatures were very similar for imagining tying a particular knot and planning to tie it.
Unsurprising. Each knot has a different sequence in the brain, and rehearsing looks the same as doing. Anyone who learns or teaches HOW-knowledge knows that.
Could get interesting if they try an experiment to see if learning solely by planning (virtual) gives the same result as learning by doing with hands. I'd bet the virtual results are inferior, but I wouldn't bet heavily.

Never believe.
Latest issue of Collectible Auto has an interview with Stuart Chapman. He wasn't a major player in the earlier era of autos, so he doesn't have any major revelations. But he was present at one important event, and his story is still a warning for people who are entangled in similar events.
Chapman took a job as Public Relations director of the Canadian division of Studebaker in late 1963. Since 1956 Studie had been "managed" by Curtiss Wright Aviation, which was using Studie as a tax evasion. Pretty much the same as modern LBOs, and the quintessential USA crime.
When Chapman was hired, the Canadian plant was just a foreign subsidiary. Two months later, Curtiss Wright decided to halt production at South Bend and use the Canadian factory as sole producer. The Canadian executives and workers were happy and proud, and even the government got into the act.
Now is our chance to shine! Now we can show those overbearing Yanks what we can really do! Studie is OUR car!
The Canadians didn't learn the truth until 1966. Curtiss Wright was just pulling the usual LBO trick of gradual shutdown, and never intended to continue production in Canada. The resentment and sadness still resonate in Chapman's narrative 53 years later.
Survival in Sorosian lands requires MAXIMUM PARANOIA. Never believe anything a corporation or government tells you. Always assume that the worst imaginable version of reality is just a tiny tiny tiny baby step toward the infinitely evil and infinitely crazy truth.

Miss Sabin's manual
One of the pages I
capped from the Classical Journal refers to
Miss Sabin's manual as "the most valuable contribution to Latin teaching". As I wandered through similar publications, I saw many similar references. Who was Miss Sabin and what was this wonderful book?
In fact it isn't called a Manual. It's
The relation of Latin to practical life, and Miss Sabin is Frances Ellis Sabin. She ran a sort of bureau at Univ of Wisconsin, issuing bulletins and books for Latin teachers. Who was she?
This biography page answers the question.
Miss Sabin wasn't delicate in those notes and helps:

As I skimmed through the Manual, I was puzzled by many pages like this:

Looks like a webpage where the image links are broken. The puzzle was solved when I went back to the first page and RTFM:

It's not broken at all. It came with a set of large cards that could be filled in with your own pictures to fit local circumstances, and you were supposed to get your students involved in building the manual! In other words, it was a practical lab experience that specified practical lab experiences.
I love it!
Much of the manual is devoted to showing the perpetual nature of civic problems. Miss Sabin wasn't delicate about such matters either:

Oddly this list doesn't include
juries. but it does include police:

Looks familiar.
[Here's the Lorimer case article.]
But there are some exceptions to the rule that Miss Sabin didn't catch.
I transcribed this example instead of capping, to make sure it's properly readable:
Speech Delivered in 43 b.c. by Hortensia, a Prominent Suffragist, when an edict was passed requiring fourteen hundred of the richest women to make a valuation of their property and to contribute for the needs of a civil war such portion of it as would be required.
"Let war with the Gauls or Parthians come and we shall not be inferior to our mothers in zeal for the common safety; but for civil wars may we never contribute, nor even assist you against one another. Why should we pay taxes, when we have no part in the honors, the commands, the state-craft, for which you contend against one another with such harmful results?"
One thing definitely hasn't changed: Feminists of 43 BC and 1913 and 2018 are aristocrats who are accustomed to obedience from the lower castes. When the lower classes gain some power in legislatures and attempt to harmonize national laws with Natural Law, aristocrats of both genders rise up in protest.
But the specific antiwar attitude has definitely changed since 43 BC. Feminists of modern times, from 1840 to present, are strongly in favor of internal wars. In fact that's the
whole fucking point of the movement. Exterminate the lower classes.
The
Grahamite abolitionists who prepared the country for Madman Lincoln's War Of Deplorable Extermination were vegan feminists, identical to modern Sorosians in beliefs, practices, Wall Street funding, and genocidal consequences.
