BBC gets something right again!
Credit where credit is due,
again. BBC has done a
fine 'travel' feature on the Wichita Mountains in SW Okla. Gets everything right, and again leaves off the usual shit about EVILLLL KKKARBON and EVILLLL PETROLEUM.
Fact is, Okla was ahead of the other states in preserving landscape.... partly because the ad valorem tax on oil made money available, and partly because much of the land was unsuitable for intensive farming and cities.
Only one minor quibble:
"These rugged formations have long acted as a refuge for animals from the inclement weather and tornados that frequent the area – and for humans as an escape back to nature."
Tornados aren't the main hazard. The most common problem for animals and humans out in the open is HAIL. Okla is the nation's hail capital.
