Before he was Mr Dystopia.....
I'm looking through various old books to find more Ancestral Clocks to animate. A 1921 volume of House and Garden had a few, but they weren't interesting enough.
Other things in the same volume were more interesting.
Do you think even the highest-paid gardener would use this embarrassing lawn mower?
Flash heaters are a "new" invention for Gaia, but they were available in 1921:
A neat little manual washing machine that fitted inside a sink:
A specific advertisement for the Washerette says that it was water-powered. The patent doesn't give much info, but presumably the water was flip-flopped between the two pistons like a vacuum windshield wiper.
A patient machine!
Later: I should have checked Youtube first! As usual, EVERYTHING is there.
This guy bought one and demonstrated it clearly. Sure enough, the two pistons fill alternately to create reciprocal agitation.
The biggest surprise:
Huxley was a staff writer for House and Garden, doing features on books and wallpaper.
