No, that's NOT how it works.
Caitlin Johnstone is making an illegitimate linkage between intervention and support. She says LOUDLY that if you oppose our intervention in Venezuela you MUST support Maduro wholeheartedly.
First, I'm suspicious of an opinion leader who pulls her followers
WAY BEYOND where they want to go. Smells like Agent Provocateur behavior.
Second, this is NOT how non-intervention has worked in the past or the present.
Past: From 1920 to 1945, basically Armistice 1 to Armistice 2, USA was firmly non-interventionist. I've repeatedly pointed out that our
politicians, our
media, our
news and our
symbols agreed and helped to maintain our attitude.
We were simply MINDING OUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS. We knew that other countries had bad leaders. We talked about their bad behavior openly and harshly but we didn't overthrow them. Why didn't we overthrow them? Because they were in OTHER COUNTRIES. OTHER COUNTRIES are not the same place as OUR COUNTRY. Other countries are SOMEPLACE ELSE and we are HERE. Their bad behavior was NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. OUR business was to insure that OUR leaders served OUR purposes, not THEIR purposes. THEIR business was to insure that THEIR leaders served THEIR purposes, not OUR purposes.
When Japan started to mind OUR business by bombing Hawaii, we instructed them that Japan and USA are NOT THE SAME COUNTRY. We were NOT INTERVENING in Japan. We were teaching NON-INTERVENTION to the Japs who didn't understand this simple principle. Afterward the Japs learned this simple principle, but unfortunately we forgot it and decided to be like the Japs and Krauts. Now we are minding EVERYONE ELSE'S FUCKING BUSINESS and totally neglecting OUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS.
Present: In this immediate situation,
AMLO shows the proper old-fashioned form of non-intervention. He has no comment about Maduro, positive or negative. He simply chooses to MIND HIS OWN BUSINESS.
Caitlin doesn't want us to MIND OUR OWN BUSINESS. She wants us to HELP ONE SIDE in Venezuela.
When you are HELPING ONE SIDE you are INTERVENING by definition. The only difference between Caitlin and Trump is the direction of intervention.
