Start crazy, stay crazy
Unusually thoughtful article about Bosnian Muslims.
It is the strange fruit of being devoted to one’s faith, but not fitting the stereotype — often perpetuated by Hollywood — that most Muslims are Arab or otherwise relatively dark-skinned. The Other.
Leaving aside the lethal The Other shit, it's a valid point. Our stereotype of Muslims has been formed by Arabs because Arabs are most likely to be troublemakers.
This is a fact, not a prejudice.
If we weren't so fanatically devoted to our founding lunacy that ALL HUMANS ARE IDENTICAL PASSIVE GRAINS OF SAND, if we could stop being SCIENCE DENIERS about genes, we wouldn't have any trouble sorting this out. Because we DENY genes, we judge people on ideology, which is a temporary and easily-changed surface characteristic.
Even more specifically, the worst trouble comes from Arabians, residents of the Arabian Peninsula and the islands around it.
Nearly all Arabs are Muslims, but most of the Muslims in the world are not Arabs. Indonesia dominates the population of believers.
If we want to apply a stereotype to Bosnians, we should use genes. Apply the Slavic stereotype. Hard-working, not easily organized or regimented, strongly religious and family-oriented, susceptible to alcohol. Islam helps them to avoid alcohol, while Eastern Orthodoxy doesn't help.
