Teamwork dream as usual
Most of my interesting or puzzling dreams involve working on a technical project in a team. Obviously I miss that form of activity. This was no exception.
We were assigned to move the British Crown from its normal location out into a yard or garden for display. We were surprised to find that the Crown was not a hat-sized object. It was like a small brass church bell, about 3 feet in diameter and weighing 930 kg. We cheerfully argued about whether 930 kg was 450 pounds or 1800 pounds. In either case, the three of us were able to lift the Crown/bell and take it out into the garden. We dug a stand or foundation in the snow (!!??!!) and placed the Crown/bell carefully. I built a sort of scroll-shaped item using carved sticks as linotype slugs, describing the Crown/bell and its weight, and placed the scroll on the snow stand.
Totally bizarre. Putting the crown in its proper place must be an analogy for Brexit, which I've been thinking and writing about a lot. But why a bell? Why snow? Why 930 kg?
The linotype slug is easy to trace. Before bed I had been looking through my old backup CDs to find the original bitmap for Polistra's radio dial. To illustrate
previous item I wanted to add a cartoon similar to this one...
with a before-and-after version of the dial.
Old SW dials often had frequencies of major broadcasters indicated by city. Berlin, Rome, London, Lisbon. The AFTER version would have Soros, Soros, Soros, Soros. Never did find the original detailed bitmap, but found a project I'd started and forgotten, making a print shop with typecases, Heidelberg presses and Ludlow machines. Decided to bring it back and resume.
