Constants and variables 42
In the Brexit runup, the
old vile maltheory that EU prevents WW3
keeps popping up.
After WW2, the elites pushed EU for Europe and UN for the rest of the world, portraying these empires as the preventers of future empires. We now know that EU was a bait and switch trick, but the initial idea (the bait) was NOT bad. It sort of worked for a while. So it's hard to blame the world for accepting it.
UN was quickly grabbed up by Russia and used as a tool to prevent US domination. This wasn't nice for US, but ... again as later events proved .... it was good for the world.
The constants and variables for both bad ideas showed up clearly after 1989.
We had been using the wrong rule for controlling Germany. The correct rule is:
When Germany is in one piece it takes over the world. When Germany is fragmented it does not take over the world.
We couldn't see the rule before 1989 because there was only one instance. After reunification, the rule showed up clearly. EU became the Fourth Reich.
The deification of UN was less justifiable. With or without Russian influence, it has ALWAYS been a terrible idea. Everything it touches turns to chaos.
What really kept the world safe was good old MAD. A solid balance of power between US and USSR.
When USSR dissolved, USA STRONG went batshit murderous psycho. The UN didn't slow us down; in fact we used it as a tool to start our binge of wild genocides in Arab lands and Europe.
Therefore: What kept the world comparatively calm from 1945 to 1990?
It wasn't EU and UN. It was the Soviet bloc.
Thanks, Russkies!
