An earlier Christallnacht
Radio Slovakia briefly mentioned the 1950 'Barbarian Night'. I hadn't heard of it before, and there's not much about it on the Web.
In short: The new Stalinist government in Cz decided to kill the organized Catholic church and replace it with tame collaborators. All monasteries were emptied, all priests were removed. Monks and priests were placed in concentration camps. After a year of re-education, the monks and priests were given menial and intentionally disgusting jobs. They were carefully watched until 1968 when the regime was semi-deposed by the semi-revolution. During those years the real church continued operating underground and maintained ties with the Vatican, which was anti-Communist and anti-Satan through most of those years.
