Hot blobs
Speaking of
hot blobs, the hot blob that has oppressed this corner of the country for the last two weeks is finally moving out. This morning we've dropped below 60 for the first time in forever, returning to normal Spokane summer patterns.
This animation from the Weather Bureau shows it nicely in a polar view.
Polar views give a MUCH better perspective on everything. In political and cultural matters you can see the true
connectedness of the northern lands. In weather you can see that the air movements are centered on the pole. Mercator fools you into seeing only the horizontal aspect of patterns, and fools you into thinking that close things are VEEEEERRRRYYYY FFFAAAARRR APPPAAAARRRT. (Objects in Mercator are closer than they appear. Sorry, couldn't resist.)
The animation runs for a month. You can see an earlier brief hot blob, then the big one settling in, and now finally shoving westward offshore. Good fucking riddance, hot blob.
