Infectious colonies of bacteria called biofilms that develop on chronic wounds and medical devices can cause serious health problems and are tough to treat. But now scientists have found a way to package antimicrobial compounds from peppermint and cinnamon in tiny capsules that can both kill biofilms and actively promote healing.Remember Dr Bronner's hippie peppermint oil? As I recall, it was advertised as a sort of universal soap and shampoo and cure-all. Back in hippie times I used it as soap for a while; liked the smell but didn't believe the claims. Maybe the claims were right. His company is still in business, apparently quite successful. It contributed heavily to the recent legalization of pot in Wash. Yet one more traditional cure, scoffed and derided during the 20th Century Dark Age, now re-examined and found to be useful. Bravo to all the researchers who are bringing old stuff back. Takes guts to run against the grain of Big Pharma and Big Romneycare.
