Bat into bat-ade
A local girl was stung by a swarm of bees and then bitten by a rabid bat in the same day. Because she got to a doctor fast enough, the rabies will be curable.
Reasonably enough, she asks "Why does Nature hate me?"
She could turn the question into a valuable science project. Is there something special about her blood or chemistry that attracts both bees and bats? Or did the bees induce a reaction that attracted the bat? Or is it just an awful coincidence?
