More pro-UN idiocy
Today's talking point for the Dems is "We need to get some UN peacekeepers in there." You idiots, the UN troops have been in that zone for many years.
According to this Wiki, there are 2000 blue helmets currently stationed in southern Lebanon.
According to John Loftus, Hezbollah has taken advantage of the blue boys, placing its own fortifications so that Israel would have to kill many of the blues in order to attack the Hezbollah position.
So the UN troops are already there, and they have in effect helped the enemy.
Surprise, surprise.
In a deeper and more general sense, the presence of UN troops always encourages a 'cycle of violence', because the aggressor knows that the UN folks will prevent the defender from squashing it like a bug. So the aggressor can keep up a certain level of trouble without ever being properly punished or defeated.
