A few years ago I was standing waiting for a bus in Liverpool One bus station. A flock of Germans (which I think is the correct plural, or is it a pride, a gaggle or a colony?) were at the same bus stop as me looking very confused at the TV terminal showing bus times. One of them turned to me and asked: German: The bus to Anfield. It stops here? Me: Yes, every 20 minutes. The 81, 82 or 100. German: The timetable here says 5:45 PM. It is already 5:45 PM and the bus is not here. I am not understanding this. Me: Ah, yes, here the bus and train times are seen more a general guide rather than an actual time they will turn up. [Germans talking to each other in German] German: I am not understanding this. Me: Welcome to England. The correct plural is a clock of Germans, not a flock. Or a Johansson Block of Germans. Or a gaggle of goosesteps.
