The transition from Boomers to Millennials is a lot like the transition from the 1900 generation to the 1920 generation. The latter is usually called Greatest; the former doesn't have a common name.
In both cases the older generation stayed in control of business and government well after retirement, shutting out the younger generation from the expected succession of leadership.
When I started work in 1970, many small businesses were still owned and operated by the 1900 crowd, who were in their 70s. The Greatest folks were itching to take control, and by normal standards should have already been on top.
There's one difference.
After WW2 the 1900 folks
recognized that the 1920 crowd had done most of the fighting in the war, and
organized the government and economy to make life easy for the fighters. The 1920 folks were able to get free education and easy mortgages, and their jobs were well-paid and secure if not top-level.
Boomers are NOT doing the same favor for Millennials. Our TARP and offshoring knocked the Millennials out of the competition, while many of us are secure in management positions (eg corporate chairmen, Presidents, Senators and Blackrobes) with no fixed retirement age.
