Tesla as seen from 1949
Several of the sci-fi adventure serials in the '40s featured self-driving cars.
It was NOT a pleasant experience!
The evil scientist equipped the good scientist's car with a radio control system.
The system trapped the good scientist in the car.
Evil scientist talked to good scientist through the radio.
The car couldn't be controlled!
It was horrible, but the final result was exactly the same as
modern self-driving cars, so everyone lived happily ever after! Science wins!
Modern enlightened progressive tech-savvy geniuses can't understand why those knuckle-dragging Neanderthals were
dissatisfied with sealed doors, total loss of control, and a fiery death. Those are mandatory ingredients of a perfect machine.
Sidenote: The inside and outside of the car were completely different cars, as always in movies. The outside was a '39 LaSalle, and the dashboard was a '46-'48 DeSoto with the name painted over.
