Prefiguring Elon
Speaking as always about the now-extinct media focus on swindlers and rackets...
This episode of 'Treasury Men' features an Elon Musk character. The actor played a LOT of high-class swindlers. In most roles he simply used his authoritative manner and educated speech to flood the suckers with financial and technical jargon.
In this episode he added a unique Elonian touch. Every time he is confronted with an accusation or a fact that doesn't fit his substitute universe, you can see the mental process: momentary darkness replaced by a NEW BRIGHT DAWN, a BRILLIANT UNPRECEDENTED SOLUTION that keeps the con running. Everything changes in a moment. The people around him are tired of changing the world, but they're too deeply invested to quit.
