Debunk, rebunk
Via Eurekalert, a study on reintroducing wolves and grizzlies finds that the supposed purpose is nonsense.

For years, scientists have assumed that when top predators are reintroduced to an ecosystem, the effects are predictable: The ecosystem will return to how it was before the predators were wiped out.

Now, University of Wyoming researchers have published a study showing that there's little evidence for such claims. This has big implications for wildlife conservation in places such as Yellowstone National Park.

The usual story is that the wolves formerly ate the deer who ate the plants. When the wolves were removed (because they were ALSO eating sheep and cows and dogs) the deer would then overpopulate and eat "too many" plants.

This study found that the wolves were simply replaced by other deer-eaters, because deer are yummy and easy to kill. The researchers also realized that the base assumption of "historical conditions" was often mythical. There's no reason to assume that the condition when wolves were present was OPTIMAL.

Excellent! Now maybe we can stop INVITING these enemy soldiers to destroy our own agriculture!

Nope. Immediately after debunking the Gaian gospel, these researchers REBUNKED the Gaian myth from a different angle. When an apocalypse fails, believers have to reschedule the apocalypse.

"We also think that large carnivore reintroduction should be pursued for its own sake," Alston adds. "Large carnivores are great, but using their effects on ecosystems to justify reintroduction might not hold up to scrutiny and could be counterproductive in the long term.

FOR ITS OWN SAKE????????? THAT'S NOT SCIENCE. THAT'S RELIGION.

And large carnivores aren't "great". Wolves are great for wolves. We're humans. Wolves are NOT great for humans. And I can hear your DON'T FEED THE TROLLS message clearly. You regret stating the truth because the wrong sort of people might use the truth to deny Holy Gaia.

Nature knows what's optimal. We don't. As a species, our first DUTY is to DEFEND our own skills and way of life. Civilizations have ALWAYS removed grizzlies and wolves from areas where humans are living or raising livestock. This was the HISTORICAL CONDITION of civilization until very recently.

At the same time we shouldn't ATTACK the natural condition by claiming territory we don't need. We shouldn't spread our cities into the middle of forests. We should keep our cities compact, preferably using land that isn't suitable for agriculture. This was the HISTORICAL CONDITION of civilization until very recently.
