What's salient?
Random pointless observation.
Watching RT's coverage of a CataLUnya polling station. Not much happening, no violence there. Somewhat surprisingly, the people look just like the people around this neighborhood. Same selection of faces and forms, same variety of clothing. If I saw a still frame without context, I would have initially assumed the picture was in Spokane.
Candid pics from other parts of Europe are instantly recognizable as foreign. Hairstyles, glasses, clothing, default face positions, all distinctly Euro, not familiar.
But the CataLUnyans don't MOVE like the people around here. All of their hand gestures are foreign. Most of them keep one hand on or near the mouth, and they wave their arms around when they talk.
