Elsewhere Volney mentioned that the Los Angeles workshop where he built his meters employed only Mexican women of Aztec ancestry, because their past lives made them especially suitable for his spiritual purposes. He made a point of auditing the past lives of each potential employee.
A giant load of hooey like most of Volney, but it was
beneficial hooey, giving useful paid work to ladies who seemed to enjoy the work and understood the "channeling".
Under the hooey there's an interesting neurological question here, which was unexplored at the time because Volney was "alternative", and would be totally unexplorable and unthinkable now because we're crazy and stupid.
Both the Okla lawmen and Volney were operating on the false assumption that "Indians" are one category. In fact the tribes that ended up in Okla belong to two distinct gene groups. The warrior tribes like Osage are stoic Northerners, and the village tribes like Cherokee are emotional Southerners. In Euro terms, think Finn vs Greek. In Asian terms,
Korean vs
Filipino.
I strongly suspect (but can't begin to prove) that the Okla lawmen were dealing with stoic Osage by self-selection, because Osage are far more likely to get in trouble with the law. Warrior tribes never assimilate well in village cultures.
Volney's lady solderers were definitely emotional Southern tribes.
In short, the lawmen and Volney were both making valid observations with their meters. The observations were different because the observed items were different, not because one of the observers was wrong.
