Pluponent goes down
Six months ago, media think tank Nieman Labs ran a series of short predictions for what would happen in media in 2017. I remember reading it then. Half of the pieces are about technical stuff like paywalls and podcasts, not really about "journalism". Those might have come true; I wouldn't know and don't care.
The other half were all Pluponents, ferociously arguing for MORE BALANCE, which means we need to LIE EVEN MORE. We need to HATE TRUMP even more. We need to EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE DEPLORABLES even more. We need to DESTROY THE UNIVERSE even more. Needless to say, those came true. And more. And more. And more.
There was one single solitary exception to the demonic pluponents. This one was plain old truth.....
Here’s my prediction for 2017. It’s the safest prediction I could make beyond the sun coming up in the morning. It’s aimed right at the people who run news organizations. You won’t fix this. Any of this.I bumped into the article again just now, and nothing has changed. The one simple truth is still the one simple truth. But: One of the pluponents got slapped silly by actual factual truth.
There will be a libel suit against pro-Trump online trolls who spread lies about a person or business, and it’ll test the laws governing online speech.Hmm. Would that be the libel suit against CNN? Funny, I didn't quite get the impression that CNN was a pro-Trump online troll. But then I'm not a pluponent. Maybe from the pluponent view CNN is pro-Trump because it only ORDERED people to assassinate Trump and didn't go ahead and assassinate him 500 quadrillion times and more and more and more.
