Why is Corbyn still around?
I'm constantly noting the superiority of Parliaments over our intrinsically insane system. The post-Brexit functioning of the British mechanism is a beautiful example.
But there's still an odd clinker. Corbyn. Why does Labour ALLOW him to lead? Normally the party in opposition takes advantage of the non-powerful interval to find and cultivate good leaders. The party builds a shadow cabinet that will attract voters, so that the party will be ready to run the country if the voters like what's offered. Corbyn doesn't fit the pattern. Brexit was passed by voters who SHOULD have been Labour voters, but Corbyn was half-heartedly for remaining.
Now he's pushing a national property tax that will unquestionably hit middle-class people hardest. You could make a case for a special tax on rich foreigners holding vacant mansions as a hedge tactic. This is a problem in London, where top neighborhoods are vacant and decaying in real
value, while the
price has been jacked up to unaffordable levels. Corbyn's tax seems calculated to serve the interests of the super-rich, who can buy up large areas after the middle-class owners are unable to pay the tax.
Serving the super-rich should be the job of Tories, but only Labour is doing it. (Unlike the USA STRONG setup where BOTH parties serve only the super-rich.)
