Installations
ZH highlights some magnificently silly proposals for President Clinton's border wall, which will be unnecessary now that President Clinton has been 'restored' inside the former body of Trump.
I'm pretty sure these were April Fools or Onion articles. Several seem to be intentional anti-populist parodies in the spirit of "modern" "art" "installations".
Only one looks serious: a company that ALREADY built part of the EXISTING wall proposes to do the same for the remaining miles.
Even assuming these are serious, they're still missing the basic purpose of a wall on this particular border.
It's not meant to resist a full-fledged army. No wall can resist a modern army.
At the other end of the scale, this wall isn't a prison wall. It doesn't need to halt or kill every single person who tries to cross.
The proper goal is to firmly deter GANGS who are making MONEY by smuggling drugs and people. A gang can't make money by smuggling one person at a time through significant obstacles. The obstacles to single crossings don't need to be lethal, they only need to be relatively hard to defeat. Gangs make money by WHOLESALE operations, carrying 20 or 30 people at a time in a vehicle. So the wall needs to halt all vehicles ABSOLUTELY and LETHALLY. Underground, on ground, above ground. The easiest way to accomplish this goal is a DMZ or no-mans-land with regular patrols by actual human soldiers, who are permitted to shoot approaching vehicles (eg four flat tires and a hole in the radiator) while using less lethal deterrence against single penetrators. The fences on both sides don't need to be high-tech, just time-consuming.
