Most of the big animals classified as "endangered" are "endangered" because of China's one-child policy. An overpopulation of males equipped with lots of money and traditional beliefs means that every animal with a phallic significance will be killed and processed.
Until now all countries and Sorosian international demons have responded backwards by increasing the illegality and penalties for selling and exporting the phallic items, thus maximizing poacher profits.
Finally we have a sane response, giving us a test of the proposition. South Africa has fully legalized trade in rhino horns because their rhino ranchers got smart and organized a lobbying effort.
The usual Sorosians are screeching as usual.
My bet is that normal economics will work normally. When the LEGAL ranchers can sell their products on a LEGAL market, the price for ILLEGAL products will drop to the point where it's not worth the risk.
We shall see.
