Hmph.
Speaking of forced addictions.... Yesterday afternoon my Comcast service shut off. I assumed at first that it was electrical, since Comcast often fails for various periods. After 18 hours I had to try another assumption. Sure enough, it was cut off for nonpayment.
I'm strict about paying bills, but Comcast's online bill-paying system isn't strict about notifying when the bill is due.
I found the right phone number in the paper Yellow Pages, called it, and went through a nifty automatic routine to pay by debit card. They asked to set up automatic monthly payments, which is OBVIOUSLY their preferred method since they don't bother to notify you when you're non-automatic. I said yes to the automatic. Involuntary stuff is against my "principles", but when the choice between involuntary and voluntary is itself involuntary, "principles" don't exist.
Before the phone call was over, I could see the modem shutting down and resetting. Annoying but fast.
Later thought: Nah, can't blame forced addiction. Just my own stupidity for not going automatic several months ago when I realized their notifications weren't working.
