Noticing and learning
After shoveling and roof-raking 7 new inches this morning, I paused to look out through the front door. Because I've been operating in semi-emergency mode, focusing on survival, I haven't noticed stuff.
Noticing 1: This new door was installed in December. I appreciated its improved insulation during the single-digit weeks but didn't notice this neat trick. When the upper pane is all the way up you don't see any screen. When you pull the pane down, you see screen.
This didn't strike me as strange. Now I see how it's done: the screen rolls up into a little compartment at the top. Fancy!
Noticing 2: Nature gets beaten down by snow but Nature doesn't give up. The lilacs, bent by direct snow and raked snow, are already starting to bud. Maybe I should learn from them.
