From a 1942 electronics journal:
Caught me by surprise. Blimps as surveillance planes? Not part of the conventional picture of WW2. Not seen in movies or TV or magazines. We have the impression that blimps were strictly a stupid Kraut thing.

Nope, precisely real. The Navy had 150 blimps and used them exactly as shown in the ad.
Modern military operations have moved into the CIA realm. Everything is strictly secret. We don't get to see details of weapons or technology or methods, we don't get true info. Only the enemy is allowed to know the truth now.
