NEMT solution in Spokane
For reference:
I've been trying to find a way around a stupid legalistic provision in health care laws. The problem is Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT) for outpatient surgery with sedation. (This includes some serious dentistry and colonoscopies.) Laws require an escort or ride to and from the surgery. Taxis or buses won't do, and most ride services refuse to take on this liability. This is a tremendous problem for single older folks, and there's a lot of discussion on the web.
Specific info is remarkably hard to find. The doctor didn't know where to start, Group Health didn't know anything. After many days of runaround, I finally found a company that performs this service here in Spokane. I won't give the number directly because it could change, but you can find it through
Community Living Connections 509-960-7281.
They will know exactly what you're talking about, and they will refer you to the correct business.
Now I can finally get my hernia fixed!
Yay!

Update Sept 2: got it fixed. The NEMT driver performed as per spec. Wonderful to have a resource like him available.
