Doesn't work that way
A British classical musician is suing the Royal Opera for
sudden hearing loss caused by one rehearsal of Wagner.
Nope. Doesn't work that way. If you're spending every workday surrounded by trumpets and cymbals, your hearing will
gradually diminish. No doubt about it. But a few minutes of louder-than-usual trumpets and cymbals won't make a sudden and permanent change.
More likely his slow damage happened to cross a line into the 'noticeable zone' after this one rehearsal, perhaps speeded up by
TTS. We adapt to everything all the time, but there are limits to adaptation. When we find that we can't hear some important input well enough to function, we realize there's a problem.
