The futilesphere expands
Futility is the nemesis of civilization.
PETA in Seattle is filing all sorts of legal claims over an elephant who died at age 37 after being transferred to the OKC zoo.
The OKC Zoo has been LEADING THE WAY in humane treatment for 50 fucking years. Back in the 70s I was on the idiot "animal rights" side, and we were using the OKC Zoo as the gold standard. We succeeded in closing down a poorly run and badly maintained zoo in Enid, partly by using info from OKC.
PETA should be suing the Seattle zoo for callously culling the critter. Elephants are EXTREMELY sensitive to exclusion and humiliation. Banishing an elephant is tantamount to killing her.
PETA's current action is so totally self-destructive that I almost wonder if PETA has been moled by some sort of AP. Highly unlikely. Just raw aristocratic arrogance. Okies are uncooooooooooooooooool, so they need to be sued no matter what they do.
The excellent workers at the OKC Zoo are going to feel the burn of futility. Why bother doing the right things?
