We need to get honest about Caste
KXLY's Repooflican 'editorial' from Fitz today is about a dispute in Seattle. A Repoof group tried to place ads on city buses showing mugshots of wanted Islamic terrorists. The wanted-ness is real. The USA STRONG "government" is offering the reward for these dudes.
Seattle's bus system rejected the ad because it was being placed by the
wrong sort of people. If the current "government" had placed the same ad, it would be OK because the "government" is currently headed by a man with D on his label. If the "government" had placed the same ad in 2007, it would obviously be improper and illegal because the "government" was headed by a man with R on his label.
The 9th Circle Of Hell
ruled in favor of the bus system, saying that they should be able to reject an ad that violates their principles.
Whoopsie, 9th Circle. You're the same Circle that REQUIRED Christian butchers, bakers and candlestick makers to accept commissions that violate their principles.
Fitz thinks this is wrong. Fitz says you shouldn't be able to reject a paid ad because it offends your principles.
Whoopsie, Fitz. By your logic the Christian butchers, bakers and candlestick makers
must be forced to accept orders from same-sex couples.
Everyone is trying to have it both ways. Everyone is using "law", which no longer exists, to justify a tangled pile of inconsistency.
Solution is simple. Stop using extinct "laws" and "constitutions". Simply recognize that
Specifically, acknowledge that different customers want different things, and acknowledge that different businesses want different things. Stop trying to force either side into Procrustean conformity. Allow all nonviolent forms of discrimination in business, because DISCRIMINATION IS LIFE. All living things discriminate at all levels. All living things spend every moment of life saying A Is Good and B Is Bad, based on sensed characteristics of A and B.
Non-discrimination is death.
Just enforce basic rules of honesty. If you
promise to accommodate everyone's taste but in fact you don't, you've violated your contract. If you make it clear that you have specific tastes and restrictions, customers can't complain.
