Empty idol
Catching bits of last night's Repoof stage show, it's obvious that the candidates still haven't stopped misusing poor old Reagan. (Or Reaɣan, as the case may be.) Nearly everyone quoted him for idiotic purposes.
Trouble is, Reagan is an empty idol. Reagan SAID a lot of excellent things. Though I've moved away from Repoof economics, I strongly agree with much of what he SAID about abortion and cultural matters.
But his ACTIONS were either nonexistent or opposite.
He talked endlessly about cutting and simplifying taxes. In fact he increased and complexified taxes.
He talked a lot about decreasing the civilian part of gov't and increasing the military. In fact he increased the civilians and decreased the military.
He made excellent points about abortion and science, long before most conservatives caught up with the facts. But he appointed Sandra Day O'Random to the Supremes. Sandra kept abortion firmly in place.
Less obvious: Russia was going through a long collapse that could have lasted ten more years. Reagan speeded up the collapse. Was this good for us?
In the long run this was good for Russia, which is currently emerging from the ashes as a sane and strong country. We stupidly continue throwing ashes, making Russia stronger and more self-sufficient.
During Russia's collapsed period, USA STRONG went totally crazy, guaranteeing our own collapse. We are now in the same Coyote condition that Russia was in around 1980.
