Ineffective begging
Made usual NW Blvd Safeway trip this morning in steady rain. Wonderful. Maybe it wouldn't be so wonderful after a month of rain, but it's UNSPEAKABLY BEAUTIFUL after a month of 100s.
The homeless are out en masse, under every available awning and cover. Tempting to use the earthworm analogy ... ground gets wet, worms slither onto street, get squashed ... but it doesn't make any sense! Homeless holes are not underground. They live outside all the time except when they get into Union Gospel or someplace like that. So: why are they out
even more in the open during a rain?
Complete puzzle.
A pair of females approached me in the Safeway parking lot. From about 50 feet away they asked some standard tiresomely "honest" begging question. I think it was "Can you spare $5 for beer?" I turned them down.
With a different technique I would have given the $5, even though I know it won't go for anything as benign as beer.
Improved technique:
Don't shout from a distance. People can't hear you, and it implies carelessness.
Don't be a pair of females. It's slightly threatening, and it also signals lezzie. Males are always stupidly willing to help a female IF she's alone and IF she's clearly female. Males don't help males, and lezzies count as males in this context.
