In this specific case I'm fairly sure the intent is fraudulent, but the basic concept is not fraudulent.
In principle it's no different from being a charter subscriber. You pay $50 to help a book project along, and if it completes, you get a copy of the book.
An expedition to Mars could be funded this way, though it obviously can't work with the sun. You pay in advance for an acre of land, and if the expedition succeeds you can either live there or receive royalties from mining or farming on your acre.
This is the
natural or Sharia alternative to debt. This is the Planty way of doing things.
