Sideways continental
No sleep tonight. Big 15-minute storm just at my normal bedtime, then steady rain punctuated by another big 15-minute storm at the moment when I finally got down to sleep. Now that it's over, I'm too close to regular uptime to bother with resuming sleep. 5 hours of rain altogether.
The west edge of this system stayed between Spokane city and the airport. So the Weather Bureau's "official Spokane" records at the airport show very little rain. Real Unrecorded Spokane, as opposed to Official Recorded Spokane, probably ended up with 3/4 inch. Coeur d'Alene, in a more intense part of the system, got a solid 2 inches.
Looks like this is going to be another continental-influenced summer. Zooming out to the big picture on this system, it's impressive. The shape and overall size are a lot like the usual front that sweeps across the plains. Only difference: This one is turned about 70 degrees clockwise so that it's pretty nearly horizontal and spans the Rockies.
