How do I stupid thee?
"When 95% of our potential customers live abroad, we must be sure that we are writing the rules for the global economy, not a country like China," Obama said.
Let me count the ways.....
(1) If there must be a global economy, the largest trading country is going to write the rules no matter what we want. The largest is now China. China will write the rules.
(2) China has ALREADY been writing "our" rules for the global economy. "Our" trade policy has been designed to give China all the jobs and give Goldman all the money.
(3) Ideally there
shouldn't be a single global economy with a single set of rules. Old-fashioned bilateral trade agreements, pair by pair, worked better and didn't allow one big nation to set the rules for everyone else.
Parkinson, dammit. A pairwise agreement between US and Ireland, or between US and Colombia, doesn't have its own building and its own army and its own monstrous unaccountable self-expanding bureaucracy. It's simply a contract, monitored and modified by part-time sections of US and Ireland and Colombia gov'ts, each responding to the needs of its own businesses.
